(A/N): I don't like the synopsis for the last two episodes, the finale. So, here is my version of the trouble between Nikki and her student and how Jack's involved. Probably will make no sense, but here we go. TW for non-consensual situation, though nothing happens I promise. I own nothing, as always.
Trouble.
Nikki smiled softly, reassuringly as she nodded, hoping she'd gotten through to the shaken student sat before her. The body they'd been having practical experience with that day had come as something of a shock, to Nikki as well as the assembled students, but she'd pushed her own feelings ruthlessly aside in order to make sure her students were alright first. Something Jack had told her she did to her own detriment, putting everyone else before herself, but as always she'd just laughed it off. She'd bundled the twenty or so students into the viewing room and made them all a hot drink before making sure to talk to each and every one of them individually, making sure they were okay before letting them go for the day. She'd informed the school well-being team as well as the relevant authorities, so further support would be in place, but right now it was down to Nikki to offer support and comfort to the shaken students. It was working so far, with just a couple of students left in the room in need of her support. The rest had all left one by one after talking to her and finishing their drink.
Alice nodded jerkily at the pathologist, finishing up the last of her coffee and setting the cup down on the table with the other discarded mugs. Nikki didn't even want to think on how she was going to have to tidy up the viewing room. "Thanks, Nikki. I can't say I'm over it, but… well, thanks."
"Anytime Alice." Nikki nodded again, making sure she appeared calm and soothing. "If you need anything, you know where I am."
"Are you still free tomorrow to look over my dissertation?" Alice checked in a shaky voice as she headed for the door, Nikki close behind.
"Of course. Pop by about ten and I'll have some time free to look over it with you then."
"Thanks." Alice paused in the doorway, her eyes shifting nervously to the last student in there. "Be careful, Nikki." She murmured, barely loud enough for the pathologist to hear.
Nikki opened her mouth to question the girl, but Alice had disappeared down the corridor before she could even form the first word. Shaking off the feeling of foreboding the mumbled sentence had instilled, she plastered another soft smile on her face and turned back to the last student in the room, heading over to where he stood at the far end of the room. Once he was gone, she reminded herself, she could allow herself to be shaken up by the find of that body, but until then she had to pretend, for the students' sakes. "Ollie?" She called out gently as she approached him, hoping not to startle him too much.
Ollie whirled to face her and she barely had time to notice that he didn't look nearly as upset as she was expecting, before his hands closed on her waist and he span her round, her back hitting the wall of the viewing room with a dull thud. Nikki's eyes widened at Ollie's actions, a tiny part of her wondering if this was what Alice was warning her about. It didn't matter though, all that mattered was getting away from him. She didn't like feeling trapped, and she especially didn't like the idea of one of her students manhandling her like he was. "Ollie, what are you doing?" She struggled a little, finding his grip on her unyielding, almost bruising.
"Don't pretend you don't know." Ollie smirked, leaning in dangerously close to her.
Nikki shook her head, bringing her hands up to his chest and pushing against him, trying to break his hold on her so she could get away. "Ollie, no, let go of me." She was reluctant to use real force against him, like Jack had taught her one time, just as she would be any of her students, but she was rapidly running out of other options and the thought alone scared her, what Ollie was going to do to her and if she was strong enough to break his hold before he could try. "Ollie." Her hands moved up to his chest again, ready to try again to get him off her, only for them both to freeze in surprise as the door to the viewing room slid open.
Jack stared at them both from the doorway and Nikki didn't think she'd ever been so relieved to see him. Maybe in Mexico, but this ran a close second. However, her heart sank as he took in their positions in the room, her pressed up against the wall with Ollie's hands gripping her waist almost intimately and her hands on Ollie's chest. She knew what it looked like, just as she knew Jack had chosen both the worst and the perfect moment to interrupt. The worst moment because of how the situation looked from the outside, but the perfect moment because they'd been interrupted before Ollie could truly try anything with her. Jack shook his head, his face suspiciously blank. "Oh, don't mind me, I'll leave you to it."
He backed out of the room again, Nikki's heart sinking further with every step he took. No, she couldn't have him thinking anything was going on. Not Jack. Not when things were finally looking so promising between them, the potential for them to be so blissfully happy together. She managed to break Ollie's hold on her waist as she instinctively moved to go after Jack, as his hold had loosened with the surprise of the forensic scientist's interruption.
"Jack? Jack!" Nikki called out as she followed Jack from the room, not turning back to check on her student. If she had, she might have seen Ollie staring after her with a dark glare, his eyes narrowed dangerously.
