The end of Chapter 2 will elaborate on OC submissions.
[From: ROB. To: Jake Vesper. Subject: Worm.
Message: Greetings Jake, how would you like to be transported to the World of Parahumans?]
Jake blinked lazily as he read the window floating above his bed, he turned his head to the side and saw in red numbers that it wasn't five in the morning. "Is this a CYOA? If so then I would like to decline your offer, I don't really get those." Jake half said half mumbled. He had just suddenly woken up, and his brain wasn't fully active yet.
In the past he tried reading a file about CYOAs but it didn't seem to make sense, not only that but it didn't even seem fair. He quickly lost interest in them, so he had to wonder why he was dreaming about them.
[Message: It isn't one, please choose one of the following powers.]
[Card Control: Generate and Manipulate a deck of 52 Cards.]
[Devil Serpent: Become the Devil, Serpent, Demon and Dragon.]
[Duplication: Duplicate Your Body, and absorb your Duplicates and their experiences.]
[Eye Generation: Generate usable eyes on any surface you can see, they go away when you can't see them.]
[Bud Marble: Generate Marbles while in the proximity of Active Shards, the Marbles act as Buds and copy the power and can grant it to someone else for a limited time.]
"Lame, heretical, suicidal, tactical, hmmm… sounds fun."
[You've selected Bud Marble, are you sure?]
Jake yawned and wiggled himself deeper into his blanket. "Yeaah shurr." He mumbled as sleep took him.
"Jakey boy, no sleeping in class."
Jake swung his head up, but then he clenched his eyes shut and held his head in his hands. "Sorry, Mr. Gladly sir, but I have a killer headache, may I be excused to the nurse's office?"
Mr. Gladly squinted his eyes as he studied Jake's face, then they shifted to the right as he tried thinking of any previous behavior that might indicate drug use. When he couldn't recall any, he smiled. "Sure you can, pack your things, I'll go write up a slip and get your homework." As he left Jake, the rest of the class were either discussing something that had nothing to with what was being taught or minding their own business.
The book and scattered papers on Jake's desk were roughly stuffed into the gaping maw of his backpack, as Jake escaped from his seat he spotted a mop of curly hair across the room, but he didn't have time to think. The pulsing inside his head sped up, it felt like his brain was swelling up and trying to break free from its skull cage. The seconds blurred together, walking to the front of class, getting the nurse's slip, walking out the door, wandering through the halls, and falling to the ground.
Then he felt a new pain, one that could only be described as a lobotomy with a jackhammer, it seemed endless, but then Jake remembered. He remembered living in a world where this world was only a story, Worm. He remembered the question he thought was a dream, and his answer.
He scrambled for his backpack blindly, and when he found it, he emptied it all over the hallway. He leaned against a wall and let his hands fall into the empty bag, then, he let go.
After a few seconds of nothing, a stream of clear marbles-like balls with a wispy black innings were ejected from his palms, they clattered and clanged against each other, but Jake didn't care about the noise, only the sense of release he felt in his brain.
The persistent headache that he had dealt with for weeks was finally gone, then the slight buzz that he didn't even notice until now, was also gone. Complete silence, calmness, the rough and loud sounds started to sound like a lullaby to Jake.
Before he could fall asleep, something changed with the marbles, after the 2,002nd wispy black marbles, new ones were mixed into the old ones that came out. Jake looked down and saw a clear marble with toxic green spikes that started from the center and hit the walls, a few spikes branched out and connected to others, forming a web-like design. The green marbles stopped at 201, but the black ones continued until they reached a total of 2,203.
Jake realized too late that his bag had no room for his books and was too heavy to swing on to his shoulders. As he gathered his things from around the floor, he occupied his mind with other things.
'The wispy black marbles have to be for Sophia's power, and the toxic green ones should be for Taylor's. Wild, I'm actually here, I actually know who these characters are. Today is March 19th, and Taylor doesn't do anything until early April. I can't exactly recall the date, but I'll watch out for Cape discussion in class and something about an art project. In the meantime, I have to deal with this.' Jake thought as he looked over his things, he was able to shove his papers into the side pockets on his bag, but his books, binder and pencil case had no room.
As he tried to dig his pencil case into the marble pile, he had a thought. 'I should test them out.'
Jake grabbed a wispy black marble from his bag, and guided by instinctual knowledge pressed it against his forehead, after a second of resistance against his skin, it disappeared. Jake felt something slip into place and stay there. A test on his hand made it break into a vague and hazy shadow, then back to normal, then he tested in on a book, same result, but it had slipped through his grasp and fell before he could will it back to normal, his final test was on a black marble, luckily it had no adverse effect, he also broke his hand up to see if he could still hold it, he could.
So, Jake ran through the hallway hugging a shadowy pile with shadowy arms, he briefly stopped by his locker and threw his books inside, the normal way, then he went to a locked exit that no one used and had no surveillance of any kind on it. He poked his head through to scout out first, and when he saw nothing, he hopped through the door.
I'm back for a bit.
I've made some small edits and starting in the third chapter I'll post new content.
