When Jake woke up, he counted the amount of new Marbles that had grown within him, there were a total of eight. Four of two different types, so he knew that he had been sleeping for about four hours. He stretched, planted a new Shadow Marble into his brain, and made his way home.
After arriving home with no issues, he slipped into his room and changed into a more normal outfit. Then he walked into the kitchen and was greeted by his brother, Orion. His brother had the same dark brown hair and white skin as he did, in his previous life he didn't have a brother and in this life they weren't that close nowadays. In his memories he could see that they used to be best friends, but as teenagers their personalities varied drastically.
Jake was rather introverted, he didn't have any close friends and he didn't like sports, so he spent most of his time playing video games and browsing the web. He had made some online friends, or at least acquaintances, so he didn't feel lonely or isolated. Neither his parents or his brother understood that, they were always telling him to go make friends and play with the neighborhood kids.
Two months ago they managed to reach an agreement, they would stop bugging him and he'll get a job. After searching around, he managed a part-time position at a local family diner, Lloyd's. It wasn't really something that benefited them, but they assumed it would be better for him to be outside the house every now and then. And aside from the bike ride back and forth, he really didn't mind the place, the pay was nice and the other employees were kinda apathetic to his whole existence.
Jake blinked, he had slipped and let his mind wander.
Orion was his brother, older by three years at eighteen. He had always been an outside person, always constantly on the go, and he was the kind of person who had too much energy. As a teenager, he ended up as some kinda jock, he played sports for fun and wasn't a brickhead or mentally deficient by any stretch of the definition, and he was at least a C-B student. However because Jake was younger, weaker, but smarter than him, in order to avoid an inferiority complex, he had labeled his brother as stupid. Even then, Jake struggled to keep his grades from falling into B range.
Jake shook his head, and he wondered if that was how he would've felt if he had a brother.
'That's really dumb.' He decided, the whole thing seemed like too much effort and kinda confusing. The deeper he delved into his memories, the more he realized that Jake had idolized, admired and envied his brother. He even developed a crush on the girl his brother was dating, because anyone associated with his brother was either unworthy or at his brother's level of amazingness. 'Really fucking dumb.'
Jake was suddenly glad that he was born an only child, and he shuddered at the thought that this was how he would've turned out. After giving a calm greeting back to Orion, he microwaved a hot pocket and returned to his room, which now that he wasn't rushing through it, he was able to take in everything. The walls were a shade of blue, which he hardly noticed because he had posters of heroes striking poses plastered across nearly everywhere on his walls.
His light was decently bright, but he didn't need to use it during the day because his large window let in a lot of natural lighting. He had a bed, a desk with a computer and chair, two dressers full of clothes, a nightstand, and a tall bookcase filled with junk. Books about heroes, action figures and other hero memorabilia, even framed autographs filled the shelves. Jake also found a box containing a Cape playing card game. In his opinion, it was all junk taking up space. 'I hope they're at least worth something.' He was sure someone else would buy them.
He bit into his hot pocket, the cheese and sauce almost scorching his lips and tongue. "Ow fuck, hah hoo hah hoo." He blew on it before taking another bite. As he ate he booted up his computer, earlier today he was either rushing or being dragged into a rabbit hole so he didn't investigate what was on it.
He found a few games that were basically: Call of Duty, Skyrim, Dark Souls, Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft. Each of the games were different enough from the originals that they were probably safe from a lawsuit. He played a bit of each of them, they were okay games and he could see himself wasting away here, but he knew he wouldn't have the free time to play when he started up his gang.
When he was done playing, he moved into his files. He found essays and school reports, and more than a few notes about heroes. He had theories and notes about their powers, and he had homemade wiki articles about his hero OCs. He had seemed to think the power to read people's minds was the coolest, or being the child of any of the Triumvirate.
After he was done with that he moved onto his saved videos and photos, he didn't find anything that would signal that he was mentally disturbed, well aside from the over abundance of girls in Cape Cosplay. However then he decided that in this world that was probably normal for people.
His 'YouTube' feed was pretty normal too, just gamers, vloggers and Cape enthusiasts. He went through every channel, unsubscribing from all the gamers and lifestyle vloggers, sure it could be an interesting peek into the life of normal people in a superpowered world, but he was living in that world now. The Cape channels he was subbed to ranged from official content to epic fail compilations. He cleaned out his feed, and had only left channels that were well put together and made unbiased informative content.
He also didn't have any other social media accounts, not that he could find the popular ones from his world, but he did have a PHO profile.
Jake sighed in exasperation as he logged in.
