"I'm known for taking what I think I deserve. And you're overdue."
- You Make Me Feel by Cobra Starship ft. Sabi
Mazikeen Smith
Sitting on the bench while on my phone, I glance at Trixie every few minutes as she's enjoying her ride on the Ferris wheels in one of the closed down amusement parks LA.
It was easy getting her here. She trusted me and she loves these kinds of things. She was worried about the fact that it was closed but come on. Nothing could stop me from breaking the lock and letting us have some fun.
I put my phone away, brushing my long curls back and let my mind wonder as I watch the little girl who to be fair isn't really a little girl anymore. I smile at her, I would kill anyone who'd take her happiness away.
A sudden chill runs down my spine when I sense something behind me. Or rather someone.
Suddenly, two large hands cover my gaze as they wrap around me. A pair of lips brushing against my right ear, blowing hot air against the skin, and awaking a chill to roam down my spine. I would be in denial if I admitted that it didn't feel good.
"Guess who?" A deep voice whispers in my ear.
"Mike?"
"Nope. Try again."
"Jack?"
"You're really bad at this game. Try again."
"How about... Michael Jackass!" I say and give him a hard slap against the back of his head.
"Ow!" Michael wines as he rubs his head. "That hurt."
"Dick." I mutter as I slightly pretend, he didn't catch me off guard for just a second.
Michael leans his weight on his elbows next to me on the bench. I catch a glimpse of his gray turtleneck and black jacket on him while he fumbles with his phone again. So stupid. "What is this?" He shoves the device in front of my face.
I grab it from him and barely even acknowledge what's on the screen. "Exactly what it says." Giving it back to him.
"Why the hell did you tweet: #michaelsadick and then tag me in it?"
"Cause you are?"
"Well that hurts." He jokingly places his palm against his heart. "After what happened yesterday, I thought we had an understanding, Mazikeen."
"We did. But it expired the moment you told me that we needed to use Trixie for the stupid plan of yours."
"It's not stupid. And trust me, it'll benefit for the both of us."
"Sure."
"You'll see."
"I just can't wait to be done with this." I say impatiently.
"About that. You're going to have to keep babysitting the brat for a little longer."
"How long?" I sigh.
"Until Gabriel finds what I need."
"And how long will that take?"
"A day. Maybe two. It would be faster if she would shut her babbling mouth every time, she takes a pitstop."
"And what are you still doing here, Michael?"
"I was bored."
I snort and wave my hand for him to somehow disappear magically. "Then go fly some laps around the planet."
"Don't want to. Not to mention it's pointless." Michael sifts in place before pointing at the Ferris wheel. "Why not dump the kid in a volcano and have the rest of the day all to ourselves?"
Another whack, as my hand collides for the second time today against his head.
"What's wrong with you woman!?" He groans while rubbing the spot again. "Just because you're a Demon doesn't mean you have to act like one."
"Just because you're a Demon..." I mock his sentence before glaring at him. "How about I dump your ass in a volcano?"
"I was just kidding." Michael says while lifting his shoulders and muttering the last part out. "Mostly."
Exhaling at the mental capacity this man runs on. "Whatever. Look, I'll be fine. It's not the first time I've had to watch Trixie."
"Oh, electing yourself as Super Nany huh?" Michael smirks. "What if you manage to lose the child?"
My mouth puffs at his remark. "I have never lost one. Do you honestly take me for a fool?" I suddenly snap at him. And then something weird happens. His face softens.
"I've would never assume that."
All the playful banter suddenly gone in a blink of an eye. Was that actually genuine? I can't tell anymore. Michael knows how to hide things, especially the truth, and dare I say even his emotions.
"Mazikeen, just so you know I'm-" Michael starts to speak just when both our gazes snap to Trixie yelling my name.
"Maze! Quick, come look!"
Like a weird instinct, I bolt up and run to the sound of her voice coming from behind the other attractions. She must've gotten off the ride while I was distracted.
Just as I turn the corner, my body relaxes when I realize she's fine. But then I also realize she's doing something completely stupid.
"Maze, look! I can do this for at least four minutes." Trixie says as she carefully tiptoes on the pier railing, making my heart race.
"Trixie, get down or you'll break a bone!"
"No, it's fine. I just have to-" Trixie yelps and she's put to the test when her leg slips and her balance takes a hike with her falling off the rail!
"TRIXIE!"
Quickly, I sprint after her and try to get ahold of the girl before she permanently invalids herself. But just as I make it to the edge, I realize I'm too late.
"TRIXIE!"
Just when I look down the pier, a gush of wind and a pair of black wings suddenly ascend upwards just when I realize who got her before she hit the ground.
I sigh in relief. "Thank fuck."
I turn around just when he lands with the kid in his hold. My thankfulness vanishes from my face when I realize he's eyeing me with a smugness that speaks a thousand words. I told you so.
"Lost something?" Michael chirps in amusement.
Consciously crossing my hands at him.
Michael unwraps his hands from Trixie letting her down safely. And then I come to a very distinctive conclusion. I should have brought popcorn.
This realization seems to have hit the Archangel as well when he sees Trixie eyeing him from head to toe. The different type of clothes, magical wings and the obvious scar against Michael's face really gives everything away.
Trixie stutters for a moment before swiftly wrapping her arms around Michael. He's jaw drops, and apparently so does mine.
The way Trixie just openly thanks her savior is adorable. Even Michael's lips rise slightly at her sweet and innocent gesture.
"Thank you, Lucifer."
Spoke to soon. Michael's face falls at the mention of his brother's name coming from the kid's mouth instead of his.
Michael's quick to clear his throat to mask his voice with Lucifer's accent. "No problem." There's a slight hint of disappointment in his voice as he pats the girl's back.
"Trixie, what were you thinking?" I ask like an overprotective Decker. Speaking of Decker, she would stab me with my own knife if she'd seen this. Well probably not but who knows.
"I'm sorry." Trixie apologizes and I can tell she is.
My eyes land on Michael, silently thanking him. It's the first time I'm glad that he's here.
"Hey!" Both our gazes fall to Trixie crossing her arms. "Remember what I said, Lucifer?"
"No. I'm afraid not." Michael's brows knit together, having no clue what the kid was asking of him. "Should I?"
Trixie shakes her head in disapproval and decides to approach Michael, taking ahold of his right hand and guiding him closer to me. She then takes my left and almost as if glues us together by making us hold hands. "Apologize. Now!"
I bite my tongue to hold back my laughter as I watch this scene play out before my eyes. Squeezing Michael's hand to hurry him up.
"Uhh.., alright." Michael's gaze still on Trixie's blunt eagerness before directing his attention on me. "I'm sorry."
"For..." The kid waves his hand, almost like trying to teach him manners and the right etiquette of apologies.
"For..." Michael seemingly struggles to come up with words, but then his features soften again just like earlier. "For hurting you... and for leaving you in a closet."
The corner of lip tugs upward, betraying my thoughts.
"I am sorry, Mazikeen." He is actually being sincere. His eyes don't leave mine even after he brushes his hair back.
"Now you're turn, Maze." Trixie says as her voice indicates she will not back down.
I bite my inner cheek just hold back a laugh. This was so stupid, but I wasn't gonna say no to the kid.
"Alright. Fine. I'm sorry... Lucifer." I slowly say watching Michael's tormented posture as he probably can't wait to relax and stop hearing us refer to him as his brother.
Trixie lifts herself onto her toes as she tries to whisper into my ear. "For almost stabbing him."
"For almost stabbing you." I say seriously but my eyes probably showed off the joy just waiting to burst out into laughter. But I held it in. For Trixie's sake.
"Good. Now kiss and make up."
Both mine and Michael's eyebrows lower as our heads tart to Trixie who spoke the blunt words.
"What!?" We both say.
"Nothing." She takes off running and sprints quickly to hide in the ball pit.
This time I glance at Michael, the bloody laugh escaping my lips as I see him shaking is head at what just happened.
"Did she really just make us apologize?" Michael asks while looking at anywhere beside me.
"Kids, right?" I brush it off, turning to go find her, a cheery mood suddenly forming inside me, making me hum.
I know. Weird.
"Hey, wait." Michael calls out to me, but I really don't care as the music in my ears just gets loud enough for me not to ignore.
A mischievous smile forming on my lips.
Michael Nightstar
As she continues to hum to some sort of a tune, I get this sudden urge to stop her from walking away. And so, I do. Grabbing her wrist, I pull her back to face me.
"Girl I've been all over the world. Looking for you." I suddenly sing to her as I tilt her chin up to meet my gaze. "I'm known for taking what I think I deserve. And you're overdue."
Mazikeen slaps my hand away, but I continue still.
"And if you listen you can hear me through the radio. In that bright white noise." That's so stupid. Why the fuck would I say that? Ignoring that as I continue to pull at her wrist again. "What I been missing in my life. What I been dreaming of. You'll be that girl. You'll be that girl. You'll be."
As if something clicks into place when I sing that. Mazikeen pulls her hand out only to come closer.
"Everything you want so let me get up there." She places her left hand on my shoulder, using her other hand and letting her two fingers walk up along my chest until they flic my nose. Making me do a face. "I'm the baddest baby in the atmosphere." She sings while wrapping her arms around my neck, rising onto her toes. "Tell me what you want so we can do just what you like." Her tongue tarts out and slides against the side of my chin up to the back of my left ear. Making me inhale sharply at the evident sensation she forces out of me.
"You make me feel that." My eyes widen as she pulls away only to do a little spin while flipping her curls.
"La-la-la-la-la."
"You make me feel so..." Frustrations forms when I try to grab her, but she quickly moves out of the way.
"La-la-la-la-la?" Mazikeen sings teasingly.
I shake my head, moving towards her. "You make me feel that."
"La-la-la-la-la." Placing her hands on her hips, she remains in her place.
"You make me feel so..." I can't even form a decent thought as I grab her by her shoulders as if she's the key to solving my problems.
"La-la-la-la-la?" Her red lips slightly brushing against my own, making me tense up. And as if that wasn't enough, the woman just had to push her lower half against my own.
Oh, she's evil.
"You, you make me feel that." Just as that line is said and done, I blink a couple of times and the music in my head stops.
The faint clicking of heels against the floorboard brings me out of it. Signaling Mazikeen pulling away from me. I watch her figure walk away as if none of that just happened, I can't help put rake my gaze all over her body as her red leather hips sways from side to side at every perfectly perky step she takes.
Blinking my eyelids rapidly, I force myself out of the intoxicating focus and snap my head to my right. Finding the source of this little scene that occurred just a few seconds ago.
"Dad."
He stands a good couple of feet away, watching me with an amused glee in his eyes as his hands rest behind his back to admit an observation of me. More like stalking.
Making my feet move, I find myself heading over to him, his calm smile still present on his face. Not to mention that stupid old white sweater he's still wearing on him. I know. I said it. He looks like someone's grandfather.
"What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be resting? Or perhaps finding out what Lucifer's day to day life consists of now?"
My Dad merely smiles. "I already did that." He says as he places, he's hand on my shoulder to squeeze it. "But I wanted to see how you are doing." He adds while pulling away and walking behind me. I turn to catch him eyeing on Mazikeen and that little runt playing on another ride together. Laughing and enjoying themselves.
"I'm fine." I glance back and forth between the girls and my father, tugging slightly at my collar hoping my father didn't assume what I was doing here. With them. "You know me, Dad. Just messing around. Like always."
I try to sound positive in hopes of him leaving me alone and not to ask question about this. I know my father could sense if I was lying or what I'm thinking, but I also know that he doesn't necessarily do that always. Remembering back when my brothers and sisters all came together that one time to protest about needing space and having boundaries of our private lives. Thankfully he stuck to it.
He turns to me, but this time his features change slightly. "Just like you messed around with Eve?"
The moment her name left his lips, the all too familiar burning sensations starts to stir in me. Why does he have to bring her up? It happened eons ago. Besides, it's not like we both don't know who was actually the one messing with her.
"It's not like that." I inhale trying to sound calm, but my gaze tries to find something else to hold onto.
"Is it?" The way he glances back to the pair of girls having fun in the distance, completely oblivious to our conversation. "Mazikeen is a good person, Michael."
My eyes find Mazikeen having fun with Trixie with a sincere smile on her face as she tells the little one something funny.
She is, isn't she.
The corner of my lip tugs for just a second at that revelation, before quickly masking it. Not needing my Old Man seeing that and then assuming something. And just when I look at him, I already regret the action.
Here it comes. Probably a good speech of how I shouldn't mess with her. But instead he eyes me for one last time before heading the way he came from. "Try not to upset her."
"Wait, what do you mean by-" And just like that he's gone. I sigh. Him and he's mysterious ways again.
"Michael!"
My head snaps to Mazikeen and Trixie heading my way, as she points to her phone and then to me.
I lift my brow for a second before her gesture hits me. Quickly finding my device, I see a message from her.
"Lucifer called. He knows where we are. We have to scram if you don't want him to catch us yet." Mazikeen texted me.
"How?"
"My phone."
"And?" I roll my eyes. I don't have a damn clue as to how these little devices work.
"It's traceable." She explains just when she throws her broken phone into one of the trash pins. "Now what?"
"We can't stay here?" Trixie asks as she eyes us.
"Nope." Mazikeen's gaze on me as she waits impatiently.
I look around, trying to find a quick alternative root for this problem.
This is good. The longer the goose chase lasts, the more time Gabriel has to search Lucifer's penthouse.
"That's sad. I really liked it here. It's like a little getaway kingdom." Trixie says describing this dump of a paradise she so keenly praises. And that's when something dawns on me. My gaze finds Maze's as the corner of my lip rises higher.
"What are you thinking?" She furrows her brows when she observes the hint on my face.
"I have an idea..." I nod my head as the plan forms in my head, but then I'm reminded of how humans work around here. "You got money, right?
