Valery stepped through the front door. "Abraham?"
There was the sound of something falling. "Valery!" The older man rushed into the living room. "I have found him!"
She slipped out of her heels, setting them in a chair. "Who?"
"The perfect specimen for our experiment." He breathed, excitement in every syllable.
"What are you talking about, Abraham?"
"Come, come with me!" He took her hand and pulled her into a room. There was a desk covered in paperwork. The doctor carefully took a folder off the top. "This man, he is the incorruptible being we have been searching for!"
She took the file from his hands.
'Rogers, Steve' printed across the tab.
Flipping open the file, she looked at the photo. She recognized the petite man in the photo.
What had Bucky Barnes said? "Steve Rogers, best friend a guy could ask for."
She chose to keep that knowledge to herself. "What makes you so sure this man is perfect?"
"I have spoken with him." The doctor explained. His German accent was thick in his excitement. "He is an innocent, the most innocent person I may have ever met. He has applied for the war more times that you have fingers to count! His reason? He hates bullies no matter who they are!"
Valery rolled her eyes. "I trust you, Abraham. I believe in you and I am sure this man will be as great as you are portraying him."
"Oh he is! You must meet him."
She nodded. "I will before the experiment. Peggy will have to approve of him until then."
"Why is that?"
"I asked the Colonel to rotate the two of us. She will come back from the war front to assist you with Rogers."
"You leave soon?"
"Within the day. My things have already been transported."
"Are you going to tell me where you were last night?" He asked her, shuffling the file in his hands.
"I was out with a delightful local." She answered plainly. "We went dancing at a bar that was very out of the way of Howard and all of his … entourage."
"I understand that Howard was rather rude to you last night."
"He was."
"He is concerned that he had said things he cannot take back."
"He has."
"Valery—"
"I must get ready to catch my plane, Abraham."
