"You may as well come in, Sargent." Valery quipped as the pair of them approached her tent. "No sense in you dilly dallying in this weather."
Bucky had no sooner let the tent flap drop behind him than his fingers wrapped around her wrist, turning her to look at him. "What do you think you're doing, Valery?"
She smirked up at him, stepping closer. "Are you not happy to see me, Bucky?"
"This is not the place for a woman."
She set her hand on his chest. "I disagree, I feel perfectly safe here."
His fingers cupped her cheek. "What are you doing here?"
"My father works with Howard Stark. The Nazis have been searching for a weapon. I need to confirm whether they have found it."
"You could have read reports. You didn't have to come all the way out here."
"I did. This weapon is incredibly volatile. The sooner I know, the sooner Howard will launch his own brand of weapons to combat the Nazis."
"Why did you specifically request me as your escort?"
"For the strangest reason. You are the first person I find myself able to trust since we fled Germany."
He leaned down and kissed her. "I would rather have had you safe in America."
"We do not always get what we want, Bucky."
