Chapter 3
This chapter is going to end in Penelope's pov but most the rest of the story will probably alternate.
Later at Work
Penelope got to work early on purpose, she hadn't told Luke that today was going to be her last day. She'd hope to leave quickly and explain to them later when she was far away in Silicon Valley. She was following the movers towards the elevator when.
"What's with the box brigade?" Emily exclaimed, pointing at the men as they walked past her.
"I thought you weren't leaving till the end of the week." Tara told her; she was stunned.
"Wait, moving out of here like the Colts did Baltimore?" Luke asked, he looked genuinely hurt, of all people Penelope knew he had a reason to be hurt. He'd been in her bed last night; he'd been in her bed this morning. At some point she should've mentioned that she was packing up and leaving this morning, but she hadn't.
"Ok, no one knows what that means." Penelope deadpanned at him; her voice was softer with him than usual.
"So, you weren't going to tell us?" Simmons asked.
"It's just that last night was such a perfect good-bye, right, and I thought why not end on a high?" She shrugged at them all.
"Penelope." JJ spoke sadly.
"I can see I was wrong. Look, I got some treats for the movers. And I could put the kettle on and we could have tea like civilized people. Yeah?"
"We can try." Luke Scoffed, as they made their way into the conference room.
"Don't balefully look at me. I'm really sorry." Penelope told them
They all went into the conference room and drop their bags. Penelope disappeared into the kitchen went and made tea. She heard movement behind her and the sound of the door closing behind her. Penelope knew instantly that it was Luke coming to berate her don't.
"Don't" she whispered, as he came into the tearoom. She already had small tears in her eyes. This is the reason she'd tried to make a quick getaway. She didn't want to see any of them and just leave she didn't want to cry anymore.
"I'm sorry I'm a little pissed off that you didn't mention that today was your last day. At any point last night after we left the party could have told me." Luke sounded annoyed, and he was trying not to raise his voice that the others wouldn't hear. "Did it even cross your mind while I was balls deep inside you? Maybe I should tell this man that I leave tomorrow? Not even last night when I was reassuring you that we'd do dinner and making plans to pack your apartment."
"I'm not leaving Washington until the weekend after next. Just the FBI today, it gives me two weeks to sort things out. Donate some, pack stuff up to be shipped." She whispered; tears were whelming in her eyes. "You can still take me to dinner when you get back from this case"
She was obviously struggling with leaving, as much as she struggled with Luke took a deep breath, as he watched her make the tea. His tone had obviously been to hash. He should've known that it would hit a sensitive spot. Luke sighed and walked over to her. He softly slid his hands up over her shoulder to her neck.
"I'm sorry baby" he whispered; she shook her head, resting her hand on his chest. He kissed the top of her head.
"Leaving today gives me time to sort myself out before everything needs to be shipped." Penelope explained to him. Luke sighed and wrapped his arms around her tightly hugging her into him. "We are going to be okay babe. We will make it work if we both want it too."
Luke glanced up to see if anyone was coming to see what was taking so long. Luckily nobody was insight. He pulled away slightly, before leaning into place his lips over hers. The kiss was passionate but reassuring. The kettle boiled and Luke helped her make the tea, gather the mugs before making their way back into the room where everyone was waiting for them. Someone had ordered some cakes and they were all talking, Penelope took the seat in between Spencer and JJ. Luke sat opposite her.
"So, you are expecting the Queen?" Tara asked her, they all sat in there normal chairs as she poured tea.
"Always." She smiled, she picked up her unicorn mug and handed it to JJ "I bequeath this to you. Please take care of her."
"Ahh." She gasped the unicorn mug with two hands "And here I thought I was out of tears."
"Oh, and, um, I know that there's not 8 of us anymore, but" Penelope handed her octopus mug to Reid.
"I'm gonna name her Mildred." Reid smiled, there was a chuckle around the table. Penelope put her hand on Reid's arm as Emily's phone dinged.
"Oh. We will debrief on the jet." She announced, "Wheels up."
"We got a new one?" Simmons asked
"Yes, and this will be her maiden voyage." Emily told him.
"I love the smell of a new jet in the morning." Rossi Said.
They all gave Penelope hugs goodbye before leaving the room to get there go bags. Penelope tried not to cry as Jj hugged her tightly, then Reid wrapped both arms around her shoulders tightly and kissed her temple. Tara cradled her close. She moved to Luke next who had a big grin on his face, she rolled her eyes at him as he pulled her into him.
"I'll call when I can" he mumbled into her hair, she knew nobody else heard him, so she didn't respond. She wanted to kiss him goodbye again but knew she wouldn't get another change. She smiled and pulled away.
Next was Simmons, then Emily Rossi who gave her a kiss on either side of her face. She walked out to the elevator with them, Luke walked beside her for a moment she felt his hand squeeze her hand before they all entered the elevator. She watched them all turn around and waved to them.
After the elevator doors closed, she sighed and walked back to her office. Collecting the last of her things, she left her office for the last time. Carrying her box, she pressed the elevator arrow down and stepped in. As the doors closed, her phone dinged. We are on the plane safely. I'll call later. Love you x. Penelope felt herself gasp as she stared down. She couldn't reply. He'd said the words. After one night. Her phone dinged again. Sorry, that was totally too soon.
She got to her car and opened the boot loading in her box. She walked around and got into She reached for her phone, opening his texts she smiled. They would've taken off now, he'd get the message when they land. Don't be sorry, I love you too. Fly safe and call when you can. I understand how cases get. xx
She turned to look back at the FBI building before getting in her car and driving away. Penelope would spend the next few days busy organizing boxes and packing up her apartment.
Most of her night she'd fall asleep on the phone to Luke depending on how late he got back to the hotel. At first, they would just debrief on their days, Luke would tell her about Spencer brain rants, Rossi's food comments and how their new analyst didn't compare to her. As they get used to each other, they would learn ways to keep their spark alive from across the country.
