The first thing Valery noticed when she came to, was the humming of another person's thoughts. They matched the voice mumbling a few feet away from her.
"Sargent, 3-2-5-5-7."
She attempted to move only to feel straps around her arms and legs.
"Sargent. 3-2-5-5-7."
Valery tuned out the voice as well as the humming.
The sound of gunshots came through the windows. A crash could was heard followed by shouting.
There was another humming sound within the building.
Valery felt a tingle through her arms and legs as she sat up She chuckled at the leather straps still bound but now empty.
Someone cursed in German.
Dr. Zola stood staring at her with his coat and briefcase.
Standing, she turned towards him.
The doctor rushed from the room.
She moved over to Bucky. Brushing the hair out of his face, she reached out her mind to survey the factory around them.
The second humming grew louder as she reached out. Steve Rogers thoughts echoed into her head.
Bootsteps rushed into the room.
Valery quickly moved out of sight.
"Sargent. 3-2-5-5-7."
"Bucky? Oh my God." Steve looked down at his best friend before tearing the restraints off. "It's me. It's Steve."
"Steve?" Bucky looked at him.
"Come on." The Captain pulled him up from the table.
"Steve." Bucky repeated.
"I thought you were dead."
"I thought you were smaller." Bucky breathed, noticing how much taller his friend had gotten.
Valery smiled from her hiding place.
Now that Bucky was back with Steve, she had other priorities.
She stepped out of the laboratory and into the weapons storage.
As soon as her boots hit the ground, a bomb went off next to her.
She was forced to the ground by the blast.
Jumping away from the arms room, she landed in the corridor.
Valery took a left that should have led to the control center.
A Hydra soldier stood in front of her.
Blue light flashed between the two of them.
She jumped across the 10 foot distance and snapped the soldiers neck.
Another blue flash hit her.
Valery felt the pain erupt up her side. She stumbled into the corridor wall.
There was another flash that she barely ducked.
Her hand glowed violet before releasing a flash in the direction of the blue shots.
There was a small explosion as the violet from her hands hit the next bight blue bullet headed towards her. The remainder of the slip exploded in the soldier's hands.
Looking down, she saw the pale blue threading her skin as it interlaced with the violet magic in her veins.
She let out a shout of frustration as she stood and continued forward.
The control room was empty. There were no soldiers and the tesseract was not in the cradle that Schmidt and Zola had built for it.
"Son of a bitch!" She screamed into the empty space.
There was a spike in the humming at the back of her skull.
Blood seeped from her side down her torso and leg.
She stepped from the control center and found herself standing behind Steve on a catwalk.
Bucky was on the opposite landing, looking back at them. "No! Not without you!"
Neither of them had seen her.
Neither of them had the tesseract.
Steve bent the rest of the railing out of his way before he jumped across.
Bucky caught him by the arm and pulled him to safety. He looked back in time to see Valery standing on the landing.
She reached into his mind through the humming sound in her own. Go. I'll find my way back.
He gave a single nod before the two men took off.
Going back the way she came, she jumped across the physical plane to the garage where Schmidt's prized car was parked.
She rushed to grab Zola as he climbed into the car.
A Hydra soldier just inside the garage opened fire on her.
The tesseract bullets landed in her shoulder and back.
She screamed. Turning to face the man who shot her, a violet light came from her hands.
Two Hydra soldiers were caught in the blast.
Tires squealed behind her as Zola got away from the base.
Blue light was already trailing into her hands as she looked down.
She took a step to jump across the world only to make it a through two of the factory walls.
Focusing on the camp she and Peggy had landed in only a few hours before, she attempted to phase across that distance.
Two attempts later, Valery had barely made it out of the building.
The Tesseract energy was seeping into her body every time she tried to use her own magic.
She leaned against one of the walls and sank to the floor.
She focused on the feeling of the tesseract in her veins. "I know how long it's been." She whispered to herself. "Please don't fail me now."
With a flash of blue light, she was deposited onto the forest floor.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
Both blue and violet light began to bleed from her fingers. It pooled at her feet before engulfing her.
There was a crackling sound as her wounds were stitched back together.
Closing her eyes, she couldn't help but remember the first time she had come into contact with the Tesseract.
