Chapter 10

"The hell?!" Daryl yelled, jerking upright and immediately regretting it for two reasons.

The first reason was because the quickness of the motion made his head spin and the pounding headache worse from both his is yelling and the motion. Not to mention his sudden urge to throw up everywhere.

The second reason being that Adrian slapped him in the face.

Adrian had been in a peacefully dead sleep when she quickly yanked into consciousness by the sound of someone yelling and her body being shoved. The commotion startled her, and she didn't always react well to being startled from a dead sleep. She once pointed a loaded gun at Kale when he slammed into her room one morning. Thankfully her reaction was less severe this time around.

She quickly pulled herself onto her knees, throwing her hands up in defense of whatever had woken her only to instantly have a searing pain zing through her head and to hear someone who sounded like Daryl mumble 'son of a bitch' from her right. Adrian slammed her eyes shut and fell back down onto the blanket and pillow she had been sleeping on.

"Motherfucker." Adrian yelled into her pillow and regretting the decision to speak so loudly. Adrian rolled over and shoved the heels of her hands into her eyes to help block out the harsh light.

"What happened?" she groaned.

"You fucking slapped me." she heard Daryl growl.

"I meant last night." she told him.

"You brought out the whiskey." he told her.

That explained why she felt like reheated roadkill. She lay still as she thought back to what she last remembered from last night. She remembered leaving the house and wanting to be alone and Daryl's camp was as about as alone as someone could get, so she had stopped by her tent to grab her pack and left to hide out at his camp. He wasn't there when she got there so she had started a fire and had already been drinking when he finally showed up. She didn't know when they stopped but if that second bottle they started had anything left in it, she'd be surprised.

"I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess I was beyond too drunk to walk back to my tent." she mumbled, still having yet to move.

"I'm more worried about why the hell we ain't wearing any clothes." she heard him say.

"What?!" she yelled, jerking her hands down and looking down at her body.

Sure enough, she wasn't wearing a shirt. Despite her pounding headache and queasy stomach she quickly covered her exposed breasts with her arms as she quickly turned her back to Daryl.

Adrian grabbed the blanket at her waist and looked at herself underneath it, giving a silent thank you to whoever was listening that she was still in her underwear. Adrian tried with all of her might to remember if anything had possibly happened but then she noticed that even though her body felt like shit, none of her problems were caused by having sex.

It had been longer than she cared to admit since she had last had been with anyone, so if she and Daryl had done anything then she would definitely know. Adrian gave a huge sigh of relief at that realization.

"Nothing happened." she told him, still facing away from him.

"How would you know, you were drunker than I was." he told her as he stumbled to his feet to look for his pants, thankful that he was still in his boxers.

"Because it's been an embarrassingly long time since I've last been laid, so believe me when I tell you, if we had gone at it last night, I would know." she told him as she pulled the blanket up to cover herself as she sat up. She wondered if she looked as green in the face as she felt.

"If you're gonna puke, do it outside." she heard Daryl say.

Well, that answered that question.

Adrian slowly looked around her to see if she could spot any of her missing clothes when she felt something hit her in the face before it fell in her lap. She looked down to see her black sports bra. She picked it up and tried to decide the best way to put it on without giving Daryl another free show.

She supposed she could just turn around again but that involved too much moving, so without further thought, she pulled the blanket over her head, completely covering herself.

"What the hell you doin'?" she heard Daryl asked her.

"Putting my bra on. You've see enough of my tits today." she said from under the blanket.

Once she had her bra on she pulled the blanket off of her head she swallowed and prepared herself for what she was about to do. She took a deep breath before she crawled her way to her feet. She was sure Daryl would have made fun of her if he didn't feel just as crappy as she did. She took a few deep breaths to fight off the urge to throw up before she started looking around for the rest of her clothes.

"Thought I wasn't getting a show." Daryl grumbled from a corner of his tent. She looked over to see him sipping on a bottle of water.

"I've had bathing suits that show more skin than this, and I'm not exactly modest, so I consider this decently covered in my book." she told him as she found her pants. It was as she leaned down to pick up her pants that Daryl noticed the tattoo on her leg.

He guessed it was roughly a foot long, starting from her hip bone. It was a large blue cross with some kind of design work on the inside, black and red criss-crossing lines, with a large dragon wrapped around the cross. The dragon was a mix of blue, black, and red colors. The black, red, and blue body of the dragon was wrapped around the top half of the cross as it's tail wrapped around the bottom half of the cross. The eyes of the dragon were a deep blood red, while the slightly outstretched wings were a pale blue. Whoever had done the tattoo had been a master of their trade and it had probably cost her an arm and a leg.

Then he noticed something on her back as she stood up. A long pink scar that ran diagonally from in between her shoulder blades down to her rib cage on the left side. It looked slightly raise and old. He also noticed a few smaller scars on her left shoulder blade that he had never noticed before.

"Where the fuck in my shirt?" she mumbled as she started throwing pillows and blankets around. Why her shirt had been under his pillow neither of them would ever know and had no desire to ask. Once all of her clothes were in place, Adrian unzipped Daryl's tent and walked out into the sunny but somewhat chilly weather. Adrian glared at the long distance between where she was and where she needed to go but quickly stopped glaring when it only made her head pound harder. "See ya later." she told him before she started the long walk back to the farm house.

Adrian received several looks as she walked through camp before she stopped in front of the cook fire and dropped down into one of the open chairs. She leaned over and put her head in her hands, breathing through the worst of the nausea that hit her when she sat down.

The smell of lunch cooking wasn't helping much.

"Are you hungover?" she heard Kale asked from her right somewhere.

"From the looks of it she may still be drunk." she heard T-Dog say from somewhere.

"I'm pretty sure I'm still drunk too. Can you guys please not talk so loud?" she asked as she rubbed at her throbbing temples.

"Where did you even get alcohol from?" she heard Lori ask.

"She grabbed a few bottles from town yesterday." Glenn told them, the little narc.

"Do you really think it was a smart idea to get drunk like that?" she heard Andrea's snarky voice ask her, probably just jealous she didn't have any alcohol to suck down.

"Daryl's just as drunk as I am, so crawl outta my ass, Annie Oakley." she told Andrea.

If Andrea wanted to see who could be the bigger bitch today, she wasn't going to win that fight with as bad as Adrian currently felt.

"You were up at Daryl's camp last night?" she heard Kale ask.

"Yes, and if you love me at all, you will go and get me some aspirin and some water so I can attempt to pretend to be an functioning adult today." she mumbled to Kale.

She heard the squeaking of a chair in the direction that Kale's voice was coming from and assumed he had granted her request. She was still rubbing her temples when she felt something softly bump her shoulder. Adrian opened her eyes to see Kale holding a bottle of water and two pills out to her.

"Oh, I love you so much." she said as she took the items from him.

At some point while Kale was gone everyone had left the camp fire because she and Kale were the only one's there. She swallowed the pills down with a sip of water and looked up at Kale to see him looking at her with a wary expression.

"What is it?" she asked him.

"Why were you up at Daryl's camp last night?" he asked her.

"I was having a bad night. After finding Sophia like that...it just made me think of the night I lost Seth. I had managed to put them on the back burner as long as I could, but once we got back to the farm and settled yesterday..." she trailed off. "And then in the house last night...it was just all too much and I wanted to be alone. Daryl's camp is so far out I'm pretty sure I heard banjos out there, it was as alone as I was going to safely be." she told him.

"And the drinking?" he asked her.

"I wanted to numb the pain of the memories and I had lots of whiskey at my disposal. Daryl camp back to his camp and found me there. I don't know when we stopped but I do know I was entirely too drunk to be walking back here alone." she said.

She didn't need to explain herself or her actions to him, she knew that, but it had been her and Kale for so long before they had joined the Atlanta group, and they had done so much for each other, that she felt she owed him this much. She knew he was worried about her, she had never behaved like this in all the time they had known each other.

And she was sure that his little crush on her had something to do with his third degree. She could imagine how he probably felt. The woman he had a crush on had spent a drunken night with another man, a man much older than him. She remembered how jealous she had felt in the in the 10th grade when she had seen her major crush David Harvey kiss Anna Jenkins. She had wanted to claw the girls face off, so she could only imagine how Kale felt. But after he had tired to kiss her after their first week together she had firmly drawn the line.

"Thank you for the pills. I'll be up and around soon." she told him.

Knowing he had been dismissed, Kale walked away from her and she didn't see him for the rest of the day.

TWD

A few days after Randall was brought to the farm Hershel declared him well enough to be released, much to Shane's disgruntlement. Adrian walked up to the car that Shane and Rick were loading an essentially blind and deaf Randall, thanks to the earbuds duct tapped to his ears that were blaring music and the black bag that was thrown over his head.

Rick watched as Adrian walked toward the car he and Shane were about to leave in. She was dressed in a black tank top, a light pair of jeans that had a few holes in the knees and thighs, and her usual tan combat boots. Her hair was pulled back into a tight braid at the back of her head and her face finally looked like it had color in it.

Everyone had been poking fun at her since she had come crawling back into camp a few days ago looking like she might throw up at any second.

She had all told them repeatedly that Daryl had been as drunk as her that day but no one dared to poke fun at Daryl, so Adrian got stuck with all of their joking, which she joked about as well, as soon as she stopped being hungover.

Rick raised an eyebrow when he noticed she was wearing both her knife and her machete. He had noticed over the last few weeks that when Adrian stayed within the fence of the farm that she only carried her knife, but when she left the safety of the fence that she carried either her machete or bow, sometimes both, and occasionally even her gun.

"You going somewhere?" he asked her as she stopped beside the car.

"Yeah, with you." she said as she opened the back door on the driver's side.

"I don't remember you being invited on this little trip." she heard Shane say from his side of the car.

"I don't remember asking." she told him as she got into the car and closed the door.

Rick looked at Shane who looked less than happy.

"I guess she's comin'." he told his friend.

"Guess so." Shane said, sounding as unhappy as he looked.

Rick and Shane had agreed to drive Randall 18 miles away from the farm, drop his off somewhere with a knife to cut his bonds and to defend himself with, and to head back to the farm. Adrian hadn't really cared what the plans were, honestly she didn't care what happened to the boy one way or another. She didn't hate him like some of the members *cough* Andrea and Shane *cough* did, but she didn't particularly like him either.

No, she wasn't here for Randall, she was here for Rick. Adrian liked to think that after everything Rick and Adrian had gone through that they were friends, and Adrian didn't take to kindly to when there were threats near her friends. Shane hadn't outright tried anything with Rick, but at this point in their quickly deteriorating relationship, but she wouldn't put it past him.

Shane had became more hostile by the day, and he managed to hide it somewhat, but everyone seen it. Adrian could admit to herself that she had felt a bit of genuine fear that if Rick and Shane had gone out alone to drop off Randall that Shane would be the only one to come back. Again.

Adrian didn't know how long they had been driving, but it hadn't been long, when Rick stopped the car at a four way and then got out of the car. Adrian seen the quick look he shot her in the rearview mirror before he had gotten out and she had gotten his silent message. "Stay here."

Shane got out of the car after a minute and walked up to Rick. She couldn't hear a single word that was said but she could tell from their body language that it was a very intense conversation. After a few minutes of them talking they finally got back into the car and Rick started to drive again. They had been driving in silence for a few minutes before Rick spoke up.

"We gotta start using our knives more. If there's one walker, we use our knives, keep things quiet, we save our ammunition." Rick told Shane.

"Yeah." Shane whispered, clearly deep in his own thoughts.

"You morons should've done that long ago. We all know that noise attracts those ugly shits and everyone but me and Daryl use nothing but guns half the time." Adrian said, tossing in her opinion.

Then she heard Rick start talking about them needing to stocking up for the winter, dried and canned good, clothes, fuel, anything they could need. And then he said something she wanted to slap him for, but mostly because she hated that he was right. He spoke about the bad snow storm that had blown through the previous year and hoped that they got weather like that come this winter to help slow down the walkers.

God, Adrian hated the cold. She loved looking at the snow as it fell to the ground and colored the world pure white. But she loved looking at it from the warmth of her living room, not in a house that might not have heat come this winter. Adrian tuned Rick out as she thought about last winter.

Adrian had woken up to hear Seth yelling through her door that it was a snow day. Adrian looked out of her window to see the snow falling steadily. She pushed her blankets off and quickly stuffed her sock covered feet into her warm slippers before she grabbed her fluffy robe and put it on as she walked to her window to see at least a foot of snow piled up on the ground in their backyard.

Adrian shivered as she looked outside, she could only imagine how cold it was out there, and she hated the cold. She loved the winter season, but she preferred to enjoy it from the warmth of her house. She walked to her bedroom door, walked into the hallway, and toward the kitchen that she could hear Seth puttering around in.

She walked in to see her son placing a steaming mug of coffee onto the table in front of her chair. She sat down and smiled when she took a sip of the hot coffee. It was perfect. Adrian drank half of her coffee before she got up and started to gather ingredients to make breakfast. She smiled when Seth joined her at the counter. Seth had discovered his love of cooking around the age of six and wanted to help any time she or her aunt allowed it.

There was a girl out there that was going to be one lucky woman someday when she fell in love with her son. He was dependent, hard working, caring, could cook and clean, and was only a slob half of the time.

Adrian laughed out loud when Seth had accidentally slammed his head on the counter when he bent down to grab a pan from under the counter, causing her son to rub his forehead and grumble about not laughing at him.

They made a quick breakfast of sausage, eggs, and buttered toast and ate quietly as they enjoyed watching the snow fall. Adrian had fully intended to stay inside all day and watch Hallmark Christmas movies with Seth. He would never admit it to anybody, not even to Jaxon who would take any and all of Seth's secrets to his grave, but he actually enjoyed watching the sappy romantic Christmas movies with her.

Adrian had just fixed a pot of scratch made hot chocolate when she heard someone banging on the door. She recognized that bang. She removed the pot off of the hot burner and walked into her living room to see Seth talking to Jaxon and Lucas, otherwise known as Luke and Jax Bradley. They were wrapped up in their thick winter jackets, scarves, and wool caps. Thankfully they had kicked the snow off their boots before they came inside. She seen two pairs of blue eyes and one pair of brown eyes looking in her direction, and she could tell by the looks on their faces that she wasn't going to like the next words out of their mouths.

"Get on some warm clothes, Gingersnap, we're going outside today." Luke told her, a large smile on his neatly trimmed bearded face. Luke was an attractive man and she had to admit she might actually make a try for him if he didn't already have a long time girlfriend. He was tall, about 6 feet, with black head of hair and beard, bright blue eyes that seemed to pop since they were surrounded by thick black eyelashes. Seriously, she was jealous of those eyelashes.

He was a solidly built man, having done a tour in the military after he turned 18. He had told her that he had actually enjoyed staying fit while he was in the military and kept up his daily exercise. His skin was naturally golden tan and was made even better from all of the time he spent in the sun during the summer months. He was a seriously gorgeous man. They had had a short fling a few years ago but they had ended it when he had met his current girlfriend. Adrian was happy that he had found someone to be happy with. If only she could be so lucky.

"Absolutely not, G.I. Joe. My pale ass is going to stay in these fuzzy pajama's and curl up on the couch with a blanket, a cup of coco, and a book and stay super warm." she told him. The smile on not only his face, but the boys' as well, told her that none of them believed her. "Come on, Miss A, it'll be fun. Half the neighborhood is already out there enjoying the snow." Jax told her. "Yeah, come on, mama, it'll be fun." Seth urged her. She looked between Seth's blue eyes and Jax's brown ones, and then at Luke's blue ones. She repeated the process three times before she growled out loud.

"I hate all of you, you annoyingly cute little fuckers." she told them as she stomped down the hallway. "We love you!" she heard all three of them yell from down the hall. "You little shits better start drinking that hot chocolate because I'm not making any more, damn it!" she yelled as she slammed her door.

Adrian lied, she made another pot of hot chocolate. The four of them had spent all day outside in the snow. They had made snow angels, made a snowman family that were well decorated, and had a snowball war that probably rivaled any snowball fight that had ever been seen in the state of Georgia. They had split up into pairs, she and Luke against Seth and Jax, and she was proud to say that they had thoroughly decimated the poor teenage boys.

When they were all too hungry to care about having fun anymore Adrian had invited the Bradley boys to stay over for dinner. They all went inside and warmed up as Adrian went to the kitchen to find something fast but filling for everyone. She seen she had everything for a nice steak dinner and pulled out all of the ingredients. Adrian had called all of the boys into the kitchen to help with dinner and gave everyone their assignments.

Seth and Jax were in charge of cutting up the lettuce and vegetables for the salad, Luke was in charge of seasoning and cooking the steaks, and she was in charge of making the mashed potatoes. They all laughed and joked as they fixed dinner, and continued the merriment throughout dinner. As the teens rinsed the dishes and loaded them into the dishwasher, Adrian talked to Luke as she made another pot of hot chocolate.

"Gingersnap, I don't know what it is, but I can never get my hot chocolate to taste as good as yours." Luke told her as she stirred the pot. "It's a gift." she laughed. "It certainly is. I swear I thought Jess was going to throw her mug at my head a few weeks ago when my hot chocolate didn't turn out as good as your's." he laughed as he spoke of his fiery tempered girlfriend. "When are you going to wisen up and finally put a ring on that girl?" she asked him.

They had been dating for years and everyone could tell that they were seriously in love with each other. "He's been looking at rings the last 2 weeks. He finally found the one last week. He's going to pick it up next week." she heard Jax say from across the kitchen. "Thanks for that, dipshit." Luke said, glaring at his younger brother. "Really?" she asked surprised. "Why didn't you ask for my help, you know I would've gone with you." she asked him. "It was something I wanted to do on my own." he told her as he grabbed mugs for everyone.

Adrian doled out the hot chocolate and everyone found a comfy spot in the living room as they all sat down and watched Jim Carry's The Grinch. They all laughed at the movie, especially when she admitted that as she got older, she connected more with The Grinch.

Adrian had been so deep in thought that she hadn't even realized they'd stopped until she heard the car doors open. She looked outside to see that they had stopped at Mert County Department of Public Works. It was a large area with lots of buildings inside of a chain-link fence. Rick and Shane had gotten out to look through the fence to see what they could see.

Adrian opened her door and stepped out, leaning against the open door.

"This his final destination?" she asked Rick.

"Maybe." he answered.

Just then a walker in a officers uniform came stumbling toward the fence. Rick cut his finger and wiped it against the fence to draw the walker in close. The walker ran face first into the fence trying to lick Rick's blood off of it before Rick stabbed it in the head.

A second walker in a officers uniform came stumbling toward them and Rick told Shane to take it out with his knife, which he did, but she could tell that wanted to just shoot the thing and be done with it. Once the walkers were dead Shane found a pair of chain cutters for them to use to get inside. Rick turned to her to see her starring back at him.

"We're gonna go take a look around inside, make sure it's safe to leave him here." he told her.

"I'll stay here with Blind, Deaf, and Dumb." she told him, closing her door and taking up watch at the back of the car.

Shane came back out about 10 minutes later and got behind the wheel, waiting for Adrian to get in. Once inside, Shane drove the car into the lot of the abandoned area and got out.

Adrian got out as well and made her way to the back of the car as Rick opened the back hatch and he and Shane pulled Randall from the car and pushed the boys along until the reached a spot between two dusty school buses. Adrian was less worried about a hobbled boy and more worried about walkers popping out of nowhere, so she kept looking around behind them, her machete out and ready, just in case.

They forced him to his knees before Rick yanked off the hood and they jerked the duct tape off of his mouth and ears.

"What the hell is this?" Randall asked, confused about everything.

"Your ticket to freedom. Don't screw it up." Adrian said as she followed behind Rick and Shane.

Randall started to plead with them about not leaving him, saying that he owed them his life and claiming that he was more than happy to join the group to help protect what they had. He was probably telling the truth, but it was a risk none of them were willing to take.

Randall started his sob story about how he was a good guy and just a normal one before everything went to shit.

And then he spoke the words that screwed up his chance of going free.

"I went to school with Maggie, for God sakes!" he yelled at them.

They all stopped and turned back to the boy squirming on the ground.

"What did you say?" Adrian asked him, wanting to make sure she hadn't misheard him but praying that she had.

"Do you know Maggie?" Rick asked him, turning back to him.

"Do you know Maggie, answer the question?!" Shane yelled at the boy.

Randall was stunned by the reaction he had gotten at the statement he had just made.

"She didn't know me! Didn't even know I existed. But I knew her, who her dad was." he told them.

It was in that moment that they all knew they couldn't leave the boy there.

He knew Maggie and Hershel, therefore he knew where the farm was and how to get back to it.

"Fuck!" Adrian yelled, saying what they were all thinking.

Without a word of warning Shane drew his gun and aimed it at Randall's head. Rick, seeing what he was about to do, jumped at Shane and knocked the gun from his hands as the gun went off, bust barely missing Randall.

"Jesus, Shane!" Adrian yelled at the man.

"Not now, Shane, just not now." Rick told Shane, who was sitting against the police car behind him.

Rick kicked Shane's gun away from him, which was a smart idea and if Adrian had her way he's never get the damn thing back.

"Well when, Rick, when?" Shane demanded.

"When I've had a chance to think about it." Rick told him before he started to pace.

Adrian could feel the tension in the air and knew it was about to turn bad. She was standing half way between Randall and where Rick and Shane were. Rick insisted that he needed a night to think about what they should do, where Shane insisted that they just needed to shoot him and be done with it. They continued to argue until Shane told Rick he didn't think Rick was capable of keeping his family safe.

That's when it got bad. Rick went to punch Shane but Shane grabbed his arm and roughly slammed his head into Rick's face, which disoriented the man, sending him to the ground. Then Shane went for Rick's gun. "Shane, no!" she said, running towards the men, but quickly stopped when Rick jumped up, knocking his gun from Shane's hand. Adrian watched as they exchanged one harsh blow after another and felt helpless. She wanted to help Rick but she knew that she'd get hurt if she tried to get in between them. Rick wouldn't intentionally hurt her, but she was pretty sure Shane would have no problem hurting her if it got her out of his way to Rick.

Shane slammed Rick against the front of a large MACK truck and landed a harsh blow to Rick's face before he threw him onto the ground. Rick rolled a time or two before he stopped beside a motorcycle. Shane walked forward and grabbed the handles of the bike and threw it onto Rick, who yelled when it landed on his legs.

"Shane, stop it!" she yelled, running forward. She jumped high, landing on Shane's back. She wrapped her legs around his torso, locking her ankles, and wrapped her left arm around his neck. She pulled her right arm back and punched him in the face as well as she could from behind him. She didn't get a second attempt because Shane slammed his head backward, the back of his head slamming hard into her left cheekbone.

The hit to the face caused her to see stars and loosen her grip on him. Shane grabbed her right arm and flipped her over his shoulder, slamming her back into the asphalt hard enough to knock the breath from her lungs. Adrian attempted to pull air into she shocked lungs but before she could even get a full attempt Shane reached down and grabbed a handful of her hair, jerking her back to her feet. He turned the stunned woman to face him and grabbed her upper arms before he swung around and slammed her into the front of the Mack truck they were standing by.

Adrian's entire right side made contact with the front of the truck, but none as hard as the side of her head. Adrian had seen stars when Shane had head butted her but she had seen explosions when her head hit that truck. Adrian's left side bounced off of the cracked asphalt when she landed and she lost what little air she had managed to get into her lungs.

Adrian rolled onto her stomach, seeing the blurry bodies of Rick and Shane still fighting, finally managing to get air into her lungs, which she took deep gasps of. But then she watched through her blurry vision as Shane picked up a large pipe wrench and threw it at Rick's head. Rick's eyes widened as he seen the deadly weapon coming for him and jumped into a large piled of trash bags as the wrench flew through a glass window, shattering it.

And then her eyes widened in horror.

A walker crawled up from the floor and fell through the window, going after Rick as Shane just watched. Then Adrian seen multiple arms come up from the window and quickly crawled underneath the very same truck Shane had just thrown her into. Adrian wasn't sure what made her draw her knife but she was glad she had. Most of the walkers had ran after Shane, who had ran off to who knew where.

She hoped he got bit after the shit he had just pulled.

She watched as at least a dozen pairs of legs ran past her, but a growl from her right quickly drew her attention to the walker that was trying to get to her under the truck. Adrian was screwed because at the moment she was seeing three of the ugly fucker and didn't know which one to stab, so she reached out with her left hand, hoping she didn't get bitten in process, and grabbed the bottom one, which turned out to be the real one, and quickly stabbed it in the head.

Rick must not have seen her under the truck because she seen his boots run right past her. Adrian blinked until her vision cleared a bit before she rolled out from underneath the truck and stumbled after Rick, who had three walkers hot on his heels. Adrian followed after the walkers, having lost sight of Rick. Then she heard the unmistakable sound of Rick's hand cannon go off once, and then twice.

She rounded the trunk of the car she had seen the walkers turn at and seen Rick trapped under the bodies of the three walkers, only the one on top moving. But she could see Rick couldn't get to it. She quickly pulled her knife and fell onto the back of the last walker, stabbing it in the head. She pulled her knife from the walker's head and looked down at Rick.

"Are you okay?" she panted.

Rick nodded at her and she crawled off of the dog pile as fast as she could before Rick rolled the walkers off of him.

Adrian had a concussion, she knew it. She had had one once before and remembered all of the symptoms, and she was experiencing them all right now. Rick could tell from the look on Adrian's face that she wasn't okay.

"What's the matter?" he asked her, grabbing her arm to help steady her.

She looked at his face and he could tell she couldn't focus.

"Concussion. I don't know how bad it is, but it's definitely present." she told him.

Rick pulled her right arm over his shoulders and wrapped his left arm around her waist, keeping his right hand free to use his gun. Adrian tried to focus on what was going on, she really did, but she just wasn't succeeding at it. Rick had leaned her against a car before she heard a scuffle and hushed voices. She looked in the direction of the voices and seen the blurred forms of Rick and Randall.

Rick was looking at one of the buses that had walkers crowded at the door.

Rick turned to look at her, back at the bus, and then to her again.

Rick walked back to her.

"Can you shoot?" he asked her.

"I can try." she told him.

Rick gave her his cannon, wrapping his right arm around her and then grabbing Randall by his jacket and they all started walking. They made it through the fence before Rick swapped to Adrian's other side, taking his gun back, Randall hobbling in front of them.

Rick starred in horror as Adrian's body suddenly went limp.

He looked over at her to see her unconscious. He was honestly surprised she had lasted as long as she had but he knew that she shouldn't be sleeping if her concussion was serious but he couldn't afford to keep her awake. Rick holstered his gun and picked up the injured red head bridal style and walked back to the car.

Randall got to the car first and seen that the man in the cowboy boots was carrying the woman in his arms. He reached for the back door and opened it for the man. Rick just shot a look at Randall, not trusting the boy for s second, before he sat Adrian in the backseat before he buckled her up. He quickly slammed her door and opened the driver door, shoving Randall in the seat before he forced his head against the head rest and wrapped duct tape around the boy's neck and the head rest.

Rick ran to the passenger side and quickly got in. He cut the rope around the boy's wrists and pointed his gun at him.

"Drive. We're going back for him." Rick told him, throwing a quick glance in Adrian's direction.

She looked pale, she had scraps and bruises, but the worst bruises were on her left cheekbone and the one that surrounded the long cut at her right side, which explained the blood that was running down her face.

Rick turned around, knowing there was nothing he could do for her and that Shane was running out of time. He pulled his upper body out of the window and started firing at walkers as Randall drove them close to the bus.

"Shane! Go for the back of the bus!" Rick screamed, hoping his friend heard him over the chaos.

Rick seen Shane abandon the front door and run to the back of the bus. Shane had kicked the door open just as Randall slammed on the brakes. Shane jumped through the back window feet first.

Shane seen Adrian buckled up in the seat beside him, unconscious. Rick got back into the car, demanding for Randall to drive. The kid drove like a bat out of Hell, getting them as far from there as possible. After a few miles Rick had him stop the car. They pulled Randall from the car, tied him back up, taped the earbuds back in, taped his mouth, and threw the hood back over his head.

Shane got into the passenger seat as Rick opened the back door to check on Adrian. The cut was still bleeding, as head wounds tended to do, and she was still pale and unconscious. Knowing that the best thing he could do for her was to get her back to Hershel, Rick climbed into the driver's seat and started the car.

Neither he nor Shane spoke on the way back to the farm, which was a good thing because Rick had to explain all of their injuries.

He especially had to figure out what he was going to say to Kale, and possibly a certain crossbow wielding hunter.
