Gotham City; August 27th, 6:17 EDT
The sounds of a fight are able to be heard outside an abandoned building. Kaldur is hit hard, his water bearers falling out of his hands as he continues to roll until he hits a garage door hard enough to dent it, the splatters of clay over his dark skin and his short blonde hair instantly give away the identity of his opponent. As he falls to the floor his tattoos stop glowing. Clayface walks past the rest of the Team who are all unconscious and covered in clay like Aqualad. Forcing himself to look up, he sees Clayface's shadow step into the light as he laughs. Then watches as his left hand turns into a square-mace. As Clayface raises his arm to attack, a familiar shadow gets larger as it gets closer to the glass ceiling.
Crashing through the window is Batman, who takes Clayface's full attention, then launches two Batarangs at the villain. Only for them to be absorbed into his arm, for a moment, until they explode and completely destroy his arm. As Batman lands in a crouch before Clayface, the villain strikes once more, but Batman jumps back to avoid the hit. Pulling out a high powered taser that sticks to the right side of Clayface's chest and continues to send electricity through the villain until he loses his form entirely.
Batman's eyes narrow as he stands. Zeroing in on the one person still conscious.
Mount Justice; August 27th, 7:58 EDT
Batman faces the Team as they walk through the Zeta Tube and into the Mountain. "I need to talk to Aqualad. The rest of you hit the showers and head home."
"Head home?" Superboy asks as he raises his arms, gesturing to the Cave, an annoyed look on his features. "I am home."
Artemis rushed to the showers before anyone else said something. After she was done, she put on her normal clothes and got out of there, feeling like a failure.
Gotham City; August 27th, 9:06 EDT
Once Nina got home, she immediately jump on the couch with her face buried into the pillows. Erik watches her from behind his book, knowing it was a bad morning.
"Do you want to talk about it?" He didn't get an answer from the girl but he continued to talk anyways, "No? Ok well I'll talk then... This is new and different for you. You can't expect it to be smooth especially when you guys are still trying to get to know one another. You know how the X-men work because you grow up with them but these teens are still learning and need to find a way to build into a team. Just give it time and it will get better."
"...Thanks papa."
Erik put down his book and paper work, grabbed a blanket and placed it on her, "Get some rest, mały wilk."
Nina fell asleep but still had a bad feeling. After a few hours of sleep Nina got up, shower, took care of some of the animals that lived in the apartment and got busy with the computer and a few arrows.
Erik was downstairs looking at a photo and an address, it was time for Nina to learn who her birth family was.
"Hey sweetie, are you busy?" Erik said by her room. Nina, sitting with her back to the TV, assembling one of her arrows and messing around with her laptop, what looks to be highly sensitive information. It shows that Nina spends way too much time with her Aunt Raven and looking up, well everything on the net.
Nina smiled and closed her laptop to speak to him, "Not really. What's up?"
"Get dressed. I have a surprise for you."
"Cool!" Nina went to her big closet filled with clothes, each piece was from around the world. But since it was getting a little chilly she dresses warmly but comfortable with a cute hat.
Gotham City; August 27th, 14:06 EDT
Police sirens blare, and it rains heavily. Both common occurrences in Gotham, more common together. In a top story apartment is a middle aged woman named Paula.
"Next up on the Comedy Classic Network an episode of Hello Me-"
The knock on the door catches Paula by surprise. Looking over her shoulder worriedly. The raven haired woman in a wheelchair holds the TV remote to turn it off and rolls to the door.
Paula opens the door to a handsome man and a beautiful teenage girl. "Hello, can I help you?"
Before they knock on the door, Erik turns to his kid.
"What's up papa? Isn't this where your friend lives?"
"Actually... I found your birth family."
"Oh..."
"Hey, hey. I'm sorry maybe I shouldn't hav-"
"No, no... I want to meet them, I have questions."
"Ok mały wilk, just take it slow." Erik knocks the door. A raven haired woman in a wheelchair. Nina gasped at the similarities in their faces.
"Hello, can I help you?"
Erik smiled, "Hello, are you Paula Nguyen?"
"Yes..."
"My name is Erik and this is my daughter Nina."
Paula looked closer at Nina and gasped, "You...you look just like her..."
Nina took off her beanie, revealing her long blonde hair that has two braids on the side meeting in the back becoming one.
"I'm your daughter..."
Paula was close to sobbing but with surprising strength she pulled Nina into a hug and cried out, "Artemis... Artemis!"
"Well that was fun." Nina said sarcastically.
"I hope you learn something." Erik pulled Nina into a side hug.
"Yeah my biological family is messed up and it explains a few things."
"Right..." Erik chuckled.
They walked around for ten minutes but Nina finally asked, "Hey papa..."
"Hmm?
"Do you mind if I walk around? By myself I mean. It's only for an hour or two tops! Promise! I just need to..."
Erik raised an eyebrow and sighed, "... Process? Sure. Just be careful."
"I will." Nina smirked and her powers activated out of nowhere every animal in a five mile radius was making a noise. "Don't worry, they'll protect me."
"I love you." Erik pulled Nina into a big bear hug.
"I love you too."
"See you at home sweetheart!"
Nina smiles and walks towards the park.
Erik watched his daughter disappear and sighed, "She's growing up too fast..."
"You can say that again." Erik turned around fast and relaxed who was behind him, "Hello Magneto."
"Well ain't this perfect just what I needed. Hmm, who is that?" Nina walked into a park and saw a boy on the swing set, lightly moving, "Hey are you alright?"
"Uh, yeah I'm fine, just lost in thought." The boy said.
Nina chuckled, "I can see that... you look familiar..." The boy is probably two, maybe three years younger than her, black hair and blue eyes, lithe body built and a very familiar voice, " Have we met?"
"No, I'm Richard." He smirked just a little but freaked out when Nina snapped her fingers.
"Oh! I know you're that kid that always get kidnap by the Joker... it was on TV the other day."
"Huh, I'm Richard Grayson."
"Nina Maximoff."
They shook hands and she took a seat next to him on the swings.
"Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yes, why?"
Nina shrugged, "Because you look like someone you trust doesn't trust you."
"How can you tell?" He scoffed but was curious to know how she knew.
"Same thing happened to me today. Wanna share?"
"...You first."
"Fair enough, I met my birth mom today..." Nina told a random stranger her somewhat day and night.
"Wow. I bet that was rough."
"Just a bit. Alright your turn Ricky Rich."
He rolled his eyes, as if he hadn't heard that a thousand times, "Funny... It's just Bruce, he's the one I trust with everything but when it comes to other things I feel like he doesn't either because I'm young or he doesn't..."
Nina took in all that information and nodded slowly, "Well, that's something we have in common. We're both adopted by men that people believe they wouldn't ever have kids yet here we are. If Bruce is anything like my dad it's probably because he doesn't know how to say it. My dad wanted to tell me about my biological family for a long time but thought I was too young. Now I'm sixteen and I understand the world better while being myself... Give it time, if it's still like this to the point of running away and meeting a random stranger, you two need to talk."
Richard laughed, "Thanks."
"No problem." Nina's eyes narrow as she's thinking over a hard question but they clear up and smirked.
They talked a while more and found out they are going to the same school and had a few things in common.
They were about to leave the park but they both felt a prick on their necks. Nina quickly pulls her out, jumps out of the swing, Richard does the same but the effect is hitting them fast. The boy fell first and Nina quickly caught him. The animals around them are going crazy and pretty much spooky, whoever, is about to kidnap them.
A small group of people walked up to them, Nina knew they weren't here to help but rather take them somewhere. After all, who wears all black and a mask.
"Who the hell are you?" Nina drowsy asked.
"Don't worry about it. You'll find out soon enough."
Why is it always me who's kidnapped? Nina fell unconscious after that finally thought.
