Chapter 6: Belonging, Adoption Problems and a Sirius Wedding

Saturday, June 20th, 1992

Bones Manor

Susan squealed as she ran and hugged Amelia.

"Auntie, this is so wonderful. When are you due? Is it a boy or a girl? When are you getting married?" asked Susan rapidly.

"Slow down, Susie." said Amelia laughing. "Let's all sit down and we'll answer your questions."

Susan turned to take Harry's hand and saw that he was upset.

"Harry, what's wrong?" asked Susan.

"Congratulations, Amelia and Sirius. I'm not feeling well. I'm going to go lie down. I'll be ok for a while by myself if you want to stay and talk, Susan." said Harry.

"I'll come with you." said Susan, already knowing was wrong.

Sirius and Amelia looked worried as Harry and Susan went upstairs, but Remus just said,

"Don't worry. Susan will get what's wrong out of him one way or another."

Harry and Susan's Room

Harry sat down on the bed followed by Susan. Only a few minutes went by before Susan broke the silence.

"I know what you're thinking and feeling, Harry. I know you'll feel better talking it out." said Susan.

"Why do I need to talk about it if you already know what I'm feeling? You already know I feel selfish and guilty for feeling this way." said Harry.

"Because you need to hear yourself say it and accept it. Then you'll be able to talk to Auntie and Sirius about this." said Susan.

"It's just so stupid. We'll be twelve this year, the both of us have been emancipated for almost a year and we're soul bonded and married. We're adults for all intents and purposes so why am I jealous and upset about Amelia and Sirius having a baby together? Why aren't you upset that they are starting their own family together?" asked Harry.

Susan took Harry's hand and he looked up at her. It was amazing how good the contact between them still felt between them.

"If you weren't so focused on your hurt you'd know that I don't think of it as their own family. Auntie is my mother, Sirius will be my father, Remus is my Uncle and the baby will be my brother or sister. We're a family, all of us and that includes you, Harry. Auntie, Sirius and Remus, they all love you. You know I love you too. You never really got to be a kid, Harry, but with everything you said remember this. We're still kids. With the contract and the Soul Bond we jumped right into adult mode. I'm guilty of it too. I think it might be a good idea to be kids this summer and the next school year." said Susan.

"It sounds good, but kids don't exactly have to do what we do to keep our bond from rupturing." said Harry.

"It's not a perfect plan, but it's what I think we need." said Susan.

"You're right. How do I apologize to Auntie and Sirius?" asked Harry.

"You don't have to." said Sirius.

"How long have you two been there?" asked Susan.

"Three of us. I'm here too, but these two are so freakishly tall." said Remus.

"Harry, you don't ever have to be afraid to tell us how you feel. Also this baby is not going to replace you or Susan in our hearts." said Amelia.

"I had an idea that I wanted to ask you, Harry, but I wasn't sure if you'd want it. Amelia can't adopt you into the Bones family since you already married into it, but I can blood adopt you fully into the Black family and become your father. I could never replace James and I'd never try…" said Sirius, but was stopped by a crushing hug from Harry.

"I accept. When can we do it?" asked Harry.

"Well we were thinking we'd perform the ritual the day before the wedding, which will be on August 8th." said Sirius.

"And before Susan bursts over there the baby is due in December. It'll probably come before the yule break, but I'm sure Dumbledore will allow you to leave school to meet your new sister." said Amelia.

Susan squealed again and grabbed Harry and kissed him.

"We're having a sister!" yelled Susan.

Friday, July 31st, 1992

With all the wedding planning going on to get ready for the following week it was decided that Harry and Susan's birthday parties would be held together.

Hannah and her family went on vacation early in the break since her parents had to go out of town for work. She was going to be staying with the Bones' until the new term started. When she flooed in Sirius and Remus were in the sitting room decorating it for the party.

"Hi Sirius and Remus. Where's Susan and Harry?" asked Hannah.

"I think they're upstairs. They were talking about swimming today since Amelia wanted them out of the house so we could get things ready for the party." said Sirius.

"I'll go get them. It'll be fun showing Harry who's queen of the pool." said Hannah.

Sirius and Remus went back to the decorating. Suddenly they heard a scream followed by Hannah running down the stairs.

"Where's Amelia!?" asked Hannah.

"Kitchen." said Remus.

Hannah stormed off towards the kitchen as Harry and Susan came downstairs fully dressed, but looking disheveled.

"Where'd Hannah go?" asked Susan.

"I'm pretty sure you'll see her and Amelia in a bit." said Sirius.

"What have I told you two about using locking charms?" asked Amelia as she entered the room followed by Hannah.

"It's not our fault. Somebody failed to mention that Hannah was coming this morning." said Harry.

"Sirius." said Amelia warningly.

"I was busy yesterday. I asked Remus to let them know." said Sirius.

"I forgot. You had me running everywhere yesterday." said Remus.

"Well now, because of all of you, Hannah saw something she definitely didn't need to see." said Amelia.

"I'm sorry, Hannah." said Susan followed by the others.

Hannah nodded.

"Hannah, why don't you go up to your room and put your swimsuit on. Harry and Susan were going to swim today." said Amelia.

Hannah went upstairs.

"I don't have time to say to the four of you what needs to be said. Harry, for the love of Merlin, lock the door." said Amelia.

Susan laughed.

"That goes for you too, Susan. Don't think I don't know who's idea this morning was. I know your necessary activities were last week." said Amelia making Susan and Harry blush.

Amelia gave Remus and Sirius some more jobs to do then left the sitting room. Before Susan and Harry could leave to go get their swimsuits on Sirius asked,

"Did you get to finish?"

As Remus smacked Sirius on the head Susan replied,

"Right as Hannah came in the room."

Saturday, August 1st, 1992

Amelia talked to Hannah to make sure she wasn't going to say anything to her parents. Hannah already was keeping the secret about the bond and said that she wouldn't say anything.

With the wedding a week away, everyone headed to Diagon Alley. The kids needed their school supplies, but more importantly Madame Malkin had Amelia's wedding dress ready.

Amelia hadn't gone full bridezilla yet, but everyone was being run ragged getting everything ready. Sirius and Remus were constantly flooing in and out of the manor. Harry and Susan had to keep there affectionate activities confined to their room after being chased out of the sitting room with Amelia firing stinging charms at them. Even Croaker, who only came by to follow up with Harry and Susan on their bond, got roped into running some errands.

In Diagon Alley, Hannah, Harry and Susan went with Amelia to get her dress while Remus and Sirius went to a store called Twilfit and Tattings to pick up Sirius' dress robes. Harry had to get his too, but Susan wanted Harry with her so Sirius agreed to get his as well. Hannah was taken first to get fitted for her robes along with a blonde girl who had what looked like radishes for earrings. Harry and Susan sat down to wait their turns.

"Is everything ok, Susan? I mean I know you've got something on your mind, but ever since Croaker gave us those Occlumency books it's harder to know what you're thinking or feeling." said Harry.

"I've just been thinking about some things. Look at how happy Auntie is. She absolutely loves that dress. I know I've had my share of frustration with her going crazy with this wedding, but she deserves it." said Susan.

"She does deserve it, but what's upsetting you about it?" asked Harry.

"After my parents died, Auntie really buried herself in her work. She was already a workaholic, but she even took it further trying to bring in the remaining Death Eaters. On top of that she took care of me. Work and taking care of me was all she did. And she became even busier after Bartemius Crouch stepped down and she became Head of the DMLE. I see how happy she is now and I wonder if it was my fault that she was lonely all these years." said Susan.

"It wasn't your fault, Susie." said Harry.

"Hello." said a voice interrupting them.

Harry and Susan saw the blonde girl standing in front of them.

"I'm sorry for interrupting your conversation. You can finish if you want. I'm just waiting for my daddy. He's picking up my books. I'm starting my first year at Hogwarts." said the girl.

"How does she know we were talking?" asked Susan.

"I can hear you, Susie." said the girl.

Susan was shocked so Harry said, "I'm Harry Potter and this is Susan Potter. What's your name?"

"I'm Luna Lovegood." said Luna.

"How is it that you can hear us talking in our minds, Luna?" asked Susan.

"I'm not quite sure, but I was told to pass on a warning to you. I don't really understand it though." said Luna.

"Who gave you this warning?" asked Harry.

"The Nargles told me to tell you to be wary of algae and that the flame is the way." said Luna.

"The way to what?" asked Susan.

"I'm not sure. They're not always forthcoming. I did however get the feeling that a current or upcoming lesson is very dangerous for you." said Luna.

"Luna, there you are. Making new friends?" asked a man who Harry and Susan assumed was Luna's dad.

"Daddy this is Susan and Harry Potter." said Luna.

"Wonderful to meet you, Lord and Lady Potter. I'm Xenophilius Lovegood." said Xenophilius.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, sir. You may call us Harry and Susan. Your daughter was just keeping us company while she waited for you to pick her up. We have a lot to do in Diagon Alley today, but if you are agreeable I'd like to invite Luna over for dinner with our family today. You are welcome to join us as well." said Harry.

"I apologize, but we have previous plans. Perhaps we can arrange a day where Luna can come over. She doesn't have many friends and I think the three of you would get along nicely." said Xenophilius.

"Well we have our Aunt Amelia's wedding coming up next Saturday so how about we plan for the week after. I'll talk to Amelia and make sure she's ok with it then send you a letter confirming the date." said Harry

"Sounds wonderful. We must be going. It was a pleasure meeting you." said Xenophilius.

"We hope to see you soon, Luna." said Susan.

"I hope so too. Remember to watch out for algae." said Luna.

"What was that about, Harry?" asked Susan.

"I don't know, but I think Luna is someone to get to know." said Harry.

Everyone met up at the book store. It was the last stop for the day and the shop was crowded.

"What's going on?" asked Susan.

"Son of a bitch, not this pillock." said Amelia.

Apparently Gilderoy Lockhart was signing copies of his autobiography. While he was giving his speech he saw Harry and yanked him onstage releasing his hand forcefully from Susan's. There was a flash of light and a bang as magical energy swept through the shop knocking everyone down. As soon as everyone had recovered, Amelia rounded on Lockhart.

"How dare you grab a child like that! I have half a mind to haul you into the ministry and bring you up on charges!" yelled Amelia.

"My sincerest apologies, Madam Bones. I only wanted to bring young Harry up and offer him my complete works in thanks for his defeat of You-Know-Who. I also wanted to take that moment to announce that I've accepted the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts." said Lockhart.

"You? Teaching defense at Hogwarts? That's laughable." said Amelia.

Lockhart pulled out a piece of parchment and showed it to Amelia. She was about to respond when there was a bang at the front of the store and she turned and saw Arthur Weasley fighting with Lucius Malfoy. After threatening them both with time in the ministry holding cells she gathered everyone up and they went home.

Bones Manor

"What the hell was that?" asked Amelia after everyone sat down.

"We don't really know. It was almost like the bond was going to go into emergency mode again." said Susan.

"I thought that wasn't supposed to happen anymore. Isn't that what your monthly activities are supposed to fix?" asked Amelia.

"Not really. Our activities are supposed to keep the bond stable. You know that we still have to be in contact 8 hours a day. Sleeping in the same bed accomplishes that, but we still feel comfort holding hands during the day even though it's not needed. We haven't had anything like this happen other than the times at Hogwarts and my first night here." said Harry.

"What do you think is causing it? Is the bond breaking down?" asked Remus.

"I don't think so. I think it just got scared. It could also be…" started Susan before stopping when she thought of how Amelia would react. Sirius knew why she stopped and said,

"You might as well continue."

Susan looked at Harry.

"While we were at Madame Malkin's we met a girl, Luna Lovegood. She warned us to be wary of algae and that something we are currently learning or will learn is dangerous to us." said Harry.

"Are you talking about that strange girl that got fitted at the same time as me?" asked Hannah.

"She was a little odd, Hannah, but really nice. We were planning on talking to you later about inviting her over, Auntie." said Susan.

"We'll talk about that later. Do you have any idea what the warning meant?" asked Amelia.

Harry and Susan shook their heads.

"Well we can't solve this without more information. We'll see about inviting her over after the wedding. For now keep in physical contact as much as you can. We don't need another accident like today. The Daily Prophet is going to report it as accidental magic, but you both only have another year before that excuse is gone." said Amelia.

That night Harry and Susan were having trouble sleeping.

"What do you think is going on, Harry?" asked Susan.

"I don't know, Susie. It scares me and it has me thinking about what Flamel told us." said Harry.

"That the more people know, the more we risk someone wanting our power." said Susan.

"I won't let anyone hurt you, Susan." said Harry.

"Don't let anyone hurt you either. I know I won't." said Susan kissing Harry.

Friday, August 7th, 1992

The day of the blood adoption came and Harry was really nervous. So nervous it was making Susan nervous too. Susan took his hand and tried to calm him down.

"It's going to be great, Harry. After today Sirius will be your father by blood and magic." said Susan.

The words while comforting weren't what calmed Harry down. It was her touch. Ever since the incident at the bookstore being in contact was the best thing ever. When they weren't in contact they felt sad, detached and lost.

"If it's allowed will you stay by my side through this?" asked Harry.

"Whenever possible, I will always be by your side, Harry." said Susan with a kiss.

Gringott's

Harry and Susan, along with Sirius, Amelia, Remus and Hannah flooed to The Leaky Cauldron then headed to Gringott's. They went to the teller and were taken to a waiting area to await their escort to the ritual room. After a few minutes waiting their escort arrived.

"Ragnok, how are you doing?" asked Harry while getting up and offering his hand.

Ragnok shook Harry's hand while laughing.

"I'm good, Harry. You're just like your father." said Ragnok.

"That's a good thing." said Harry.

"Most of the time." said Sirius, Remus and Ragnok at the same time causing everyone to laugh.

"If everyone would follow me." said Ragnok.

The group followed Ragnok into a room with several ornate chairs and tables.

"This is the viewing area. No one but those participating are allowed in the ritual room. The participants may enter the room clothed, but are not allowed to have any magical objects on them. Are there any questions?" asked Ragnok.

"Is charmed clothing counted as magical objects?" asked Sirius.

"Yes. I apologize. I should've mentioned that you will be given robes that were hand crafted for the ritual." said Ragnok.

There were no other questions so Ragnok showed Harry and Sirius where they could change. Once they were ready Ragnok took them to the entrance to the ritual area.

"Once you pass through this door the room will seal. This is to keep anyone from entering while dangerous energies are around the room. Once you are in the ritual circle All external magic will be blocked from the room so no interference can occur. Once the ritual is completed or fails in some cases the seals will drop." said Ragnok.

Harry hugged and kissed Susan while Sirius did the same with Amelia.

"Good luck, Harry. I'm sorry I can't be in there with you." said Susan.

"It's ok, Susie. In a way you're always with me." said Harry.

Harry and Sirius walked through the entrance and sure enough it sealed. As they approached the circle they saw a simple stone table with a ritual dagger on it.

"Are you ready for this, pup?" asked Sirius.

" Yes. I'm ready." said Harry.

Sirius entered the circle first.

"I love you, Harry." said Susan.

"I love you too." said Harry.

Harry started towards the circle and just as he stepped in he heard a scream,

"Harry, no!"

Once fully inside, Harry dropped unmoving to the ground. Sirius hurried over and tried his best to check on him, but with no magic.

"Harry! Come on, Harry don't do this. Ragnok, help!" yelled Sirius.

Sirius tried to leave the ritual circle and was repelled back falling on his ass.

'Fuck! What am I supposed to do?' thought Sirius.

Sirius started looking around the ritual circle. There was nothing. Nothing but the ritual dagger Grabbing the dagger, Sirius said,

"Let's hope this works with you unconscious."

Viewing Area

"Ragnok open that room immediately!" yelled Amelia while holding onto Susan.

"The room can't be opened until the ritual is completed. I don't understand what has caused this." said Ragnok.

"It might be the bond the of them have." said Remus.

"They have a soul bond and you allowed Harry to go into a sealed magical room that blocks all external magic!? Ignorant, stupid humans…" trailed Ragnok with what were most likely some Goblin curse words before sending for on of their healers.

"Susan, come on. She's not breathing! Tell them to hurry!" cried Amelia.

As soon as the healer came in the door to the ritual area opened and Sirius hurried through carrying Harry. There was a flash and once again Harry and Susan were enveloped in their golden cocoon.

The Goblin healer scanned them and cast some magic into the done then gave his results to Ragnok.

"Bloodhorn says they won't awaken for an hour, but these scans are troubling. I'll have some guards watch over them, but I think we need to have a talk in my office." said Ragnok.

"Can I stay with them?" asked Hannah.

"Yes. Make sure she is provided whatever refreshment she needs and bring the three of them here when the two of them awaken." said Ragnok to one of the guards as they entered.

Unknown Time and Place

Harry and Susan woke up in the same place they did when their bond manifested before and sighed.

"I guess we're about to get an earful from our bond again." said Susan.

"I'd like to think I'm prettier than the manifestation of your bond" said a voice they recognized.

"Luna, what are you doing here?" asked Susan.

"That's who I heard scream." said Harry.

"I don't know why I'm here, but I knew you needed me." said Luna.

"Why do I get the feeling that you know exactly why you're here and that you know more about what's going on with us than we do?" asked Harry.

"Because you're a very smart boy, Harry. Something you gained from Susan when you bonded." said Luna.

"Did she just imply I was stupid before?" asked Harry.

"I didn't imply it. I said it plainly." said Luna.

"Are you ever going to tell us how you can hear us in our minds? Or anything at all?" asked Susan through her laughs at Harry's expense.

"Mystery is a good thing sometimes. There are rules that govern what I'm allowed to tell you and how I tell you the information. Like the warning I gave. It has everything you need to know currently. It's up to you to solve it." said Luna.

"How are we supposed to figure that out? It's confusing and we don't have any idea what you're warning us about." said Harry.

"Try using some of those smarts you got from Susan. I promise you'll be able to figure out. If you don't then the Wizarding World will end up with someone a thousand times worse than Voldemort." said Luna.

"Is there anything else you can tell us?" asked Susan.

"You have friends, I'm one of them, but you also have false friends. Keep your secret. Nobody else can be allowed to know about you two." said Luna.

"What is so important about this bond that makes it so secretive? I get that it's personal to us, but…" started Harry before being interrupted by Luna.

"Forget the bond. That's part of it, but the power you have beyond the bond that's tied to yours and Susan's very cores is what's at stake. You think Voldemort is bad? Was bad? He would've enslaved all the muggles, the muggleborn and many of the half bloods along with all the magical creatures. Voldemort is dangerous, but ultimately nothing. Take my warning and future warnings seriously or when you fail there will be no one or no world to enslave." said Luna.

"We promise to figure it out, Luna." said Susan.

"Good. Well it's time for you to wake up. I always hope they'll have pudding here. Oh well maybe next time. See you next week." said Luna before everything disappeared and Harry and Susan found themselves in the viewing area on the ground.

"We need to talk to Auntie." said Susan.

Ragnok's Office

Amelia grabbed Harry and Susan in a hug as soon as they entered the office.

"Are you two ok? Do you need anything?" asked Amelia.

"We're ok." said Harry.

"You most certainly are not." said Bloodhorn causing everyone to look at him.

"Please excuse Bloodhorn, Harry, but he is right. According to his scans you and Susan are not ok. Before you object read this." said Ragnok.

Harry and Susan read the results of the scan.

"We know the bond is unstable. It was patched. Nicholas Flamel even reinforced it when we almost died saving Hannah a couple months ago." said Harry.

"We've done what we are supposed to every month to keep it from failing." said Susan.

"Over and beyond what you're supposed to." said Sirius causing Amelia to smack him in the head.

"Unfortunately your efforts aren't working. We have a solution that'll remove the need for your monthly activities. You can continue them if you want, but it won't be required." said Ragnok.

"We're not ready to consummate the bond if that's what you're going to suggest." said Susan.

"No Goblin would ever suggest that someone your age do that. While consummation will be required to finalize the bond we can stabilize it with a Goblin ritual that will allow you to choose the time and not be forced into a decision you're not ready for." said Ragnok.

"How did you come up with this ritual. Soul bonds aren't a common occurrence. The last one before Harry's and Susan's was over 600 years ago." said Remus.

"While soul bonds aren't common in humans, as far as you know, they are common in Goblins. We have a lot of experience with troublesome bonds among our younglings. There is no danger with this ritual and other than some abilities that require a complete bond you will no longer risk damaging it." said Ragnok.

There were some more questions asked, but in the end the decision was up to Harry and Susan who agreed to go through the ritual. The ritual was over in less than 30 minutes and the exhausted family headed home.

Saturday, August 8th, 1992

After a day like the previous one you'd think that everyone deserved a rest. Unfortunately that didn't happen.

"Harry, Susan, did you remember to…?

"Remus, make sure that Croaker stays away from Mrs. Diggory. We don't need a repeat of last New Years."

"Sirius, if you touch that cake!"

Bones Manor had more people in it than ever before. Hannah, Susan and Harry were taking people from the apparition point, Remus was trying to keep Sirius from hyperventilating and Amelia was locked in the brides area by Mipsy.

"Auntie, the guests are all seated and… you look beautiful, Auntie." said Susan. "Harry, she's dressed, look." "Harry says you're beautiful too."

"Well tell Harry thank you." said Amelia.

"Tell him to stop perving on us in here too." said Tonks.

"Nymphadora, don't make me regret suggesting you as a bridesmaid." said Andromeda.

"Harry only looks when I tell him too." said Susan.

Tonks' reply was cutoff by Hannah hurrying into the room.

"Andi, come quick, there's… absolutely nothing wrong." said Hannah when she saw the look on Amelia's face.

"What is it, Hannah?" asked Amelia.

"Don't worry about it, Amy. I'll take care of it. That's what Maids of Honor are for after all." said Andromeda.

Hannah and Andromeda left before Amelia could argue and after a short time they returned.

"Everyone is ready for you." said Andromeda.

Amelia followed the others out and into the sitting room. Through the windows she could see Sirius standing with Remus and Harry. Croaker had offered to be a groomsman too, but Sirius didn't really like him so he said no.

The music started to play and the pace of Amelia's heart quickened. Hannah walked out first followed by Tonks then Andi. The music changed and Amelia took Susan's arm and started walking. With every step she took beautiful flowers blossomed beneath her feet. She knew it wasn't that far from the sitting room to where Sirius was, but it seemed to take forever. Soon she was beside him with her hands in his listening to Minister Fudge.

Amelia listened to the vows Sirius wrote and was sure he stole some of the lines from one of the movies they watched. She said her vows and after exchanging rings kissed the only man she'd ever loved. They were in their own world for a brief moment until Minister Fudge announced them to their guests and everyone cheered.

With Mipsy's help the guests seats and everything around was transformed for the reception. Sirius and Amelia got on the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife. They held each other close and waited for that first note of music.

"Who let the dog's out? Woof woof woof woof. Who let the dog's out?"

Everyone burst out laughing except Amelia. Her shout of, "Remus!", was stifled by Sirius' kiss. The real music started and after the couple was given a moment the guests started joining them. Harry and Susan weren't among them.

"Dammit, Susie, what's going on?" asked Harry while trying to keep Susan from vomiting blood on her dress.

"I don't know. This is getting worse. I've felt you today and it's a miracle either of us are still standing." said Susan.

"We need to tell, Auntie. She deserves…" started Harry.

"No. I won't let this ruin their wedding. Now we need to get out there and dance or they'll know something is wrong." said Susan.

Harry and Susan joined everyone on the dance floor during an upbeat song. The next one was a slow dance and they clung to each other like their lives depended on it.

"I think we should sit down." said Harry.

"I think you're right." said Susan.

The two of them started to go towards the tables, but Susan got sick again and threw up blood on the dance floor before passing out. There were screams from the guests and Harry got out, "Amelia!", before passing out himself.
