In the forest, a deer was riding a wagon being carried by two horses. Inside the wagon were Courage, Shirley, Bunny, Kitty, and the Duck Brothers.
"The Computer was right," Bunny told Courage, "Sneaking into the castle through a wagon was one of the better ways to get in."
"And I did say it was more better than sneaking in through a bush," the red eyed duck brother added.
"I'm surprised that this deer agreed to help us with our plan," Courage noted, "She must really cared about Melissa or really hated the Snake to do this."
"Either one or both," Shirley said, though she already knew it was.
Just then, the wagon stopped and the deer that was riding stuck her head out to face and Courage and his pals. "Okay, guys," she spoke, "We're at the entrance. There's no guards, and it's safe to put the disguises on and enter."
"Thanks for helping us out," Kitty said.
"You're welcome," the deer said,"I'm gonna leave now before the Snake finds out I'm here. Wish you luck."
The seven friends got out of the wagon in their guard disguises. The deer then rode the wagon away as Courage and his friends entered the castle. The castle seemed to be empty, no one but guards around.
To their horror, one of the guards was suspicious and approached them. "You guys look unfamiliar. Are you seven actual guards?"
"Yeah...The reason we're unfamiliar is because we're new recruits," Bunny answered nervously.
Luckily, the guard gave a smile and said, "Phew, that's a relief. If the captain was hiring recruits, then he would've let me know. For a second, I thought you guys were imposters."
"Imposters?" the red eyed duck brother said before bursting into laughter along with the other brothers so the guard wouldn't raise suspicion, "What would give you that idea?"
Courage, Bunny, Kitty, and Shirley started laughing and playing along. "Yeah? Us? Imposters? That's ridiculous!" Bunny said.
"Well, sorry for the misunderstanding," the guard apologized before asking, "And since you guys are new recruits, are there anything you guys need?"
The friends remembered what they were here for and Courage asked, "Well, we've heard about the Snake's slave and we were wondering if we could meet her?"
"You mean Melissa?" the guard asked before saying, "Of course. Every new member of the guards must meet Melissa."
The guard started to lead Courage and his pals through the hallways. The friends started to whisper as the guard led them.
"That was easier than I thought," Bunny said.
"Now the guard is probably gonna lead us to the dungeon where Melissa is," Kitty added.
"DANG IT, MELISSA!"
The voice had caught the group by surprise. The guard let out another sigh. "Not again," the guard deadpanned.
Instead of leading them to the dungeon, the guard led them to a bedroom where Melissa and presumably the Snake was. The Snake was as huge and long as a anaconda would be. His scales were black with red stripes.
Melissa was the same as she was in the photo, but she wore a long black sheet with a white collar. The Snake was glaring at her angrily. In front of Melissa, was a huge stain and broken glass. Tears came out of Melissa's eyes as she trembled in fear.
Courage and his friends, including Bunny, couldn't believe their eyes. The Snake was angrily at Melissa for a simple small mistake. Sure, Mad Dog was often furious at Bunny for making messes, but he wasn't usually this angry with her.
"I asked you to bring me a glass of ssssoda and you drop it on the floor!" the Snake angrily hissed at Melissa. He turned and saw Courage and his friends.
"They're new recruits," the guard said before he could question them.
"Well, new recruits, take this naughty slave to the bars," the Snake commanded.
"Um, you mean the dungeon? Sure," Kitty said, knowing that Courage had a map. She and Bunny walked and gently grabbed Melissa by the arms. Melissa didn't bother struggling to get free, she just let Kitty and Bunny do what the Snake commanded them to do.
The group headed down the hallway and made it to the dungeon. To Melissa's surprise, none of them put her in a cell. When she saw the Duck Brothers lock the door by hammering down some board, and placing chairs to barricade it, she grew fearful.
"What are you going to do to me?" she asked while trembling.
"What about we give you a nice riddle?" Bunny asked.
"I'm there any time, day and night. I am there but cannot be seen. I am a place, but without something to keep me still. If I get there, I'll be happy. If I don't, I'll be trapped and sad. What am I? You shall answer."
Melissa thought long and hard as Kitty finished her own riddle. Kitty had learned of the riddle from Muriel. After a moment, Melissa found the answer.
"Freedom."
Melissa watched as Courage and his pals took their disguises off and revealed their true selves. She was surprised.
"Correct," Kitty said.
"You're going to save me?" Melissa asked, growing very happy.
"Of course," Bunny said.
"Your friend is very depressed and lost without you," Shirley stated, "After learning about how much you mean to her and that she's been depressed for five years, we can't let her be like that for much longer."
Melissa smiled. However, she became frightened when banging was heard. They had to get out quick.
That was when Courage saw a opened window. He pulled out some rope and tossed it over to the window. The friends, with Melissa following behind, climbed up the rope to the window.
They were on the roof, and below them were horses. Before they could jump, they heard hissing. They turned around and saw the Snake. The Snake lunges at a terrified Melissa. But luckily, Bunny carried a giant frying and hit the Snake right in the face.
They jumped onto the horses and rode off. But the Snake recovered quickly and was hot on their tail. The Snake was catching up to them.
The horses tripped and the friends fell to the ground. The Snake stopped and looked at them evilly.
"Any last words?" he asked, slithering over Courage. He had him in his coils and was now attempting to squeeze him to death.
Melissa grew horrified. Kitty then saw the meteor that Courage had planned to use. She grabbed and gave it a spin. The meteor shot a blast of light and hit the Snake.
The Snake let go of Courage and shrunk to the size of a fly. This surprised him. Melissa looked at the Snake for a moment, no longer feeling afraid. She walked over to him and raised her foot.
Despite the Snake's pleas, Melissa stomped on him and raised her foot back up. The Snake was planted onto the ground, injured from the impact.
"What do you think we should do with him?" Bunny asked Kitty.
"We should leave him," Kitty answered, staring at the Snake," I don't think he can do much harm at that size, and he's pretty hurt anyways."
Melissa turned to everyone with a smile. "Thank you," she said, giving everyone a hug, "This means so much."
"You're welcome, Melissa," Bunny said, giving a smile as well, "Audrey is our friend after all."
After a moment, everyone stopped hugging and started to make their way to the farmhouse.
Once Audrey was reunited with Melissa, she would be happy and go back to the way she was. Helping people was always the thing that made Courage happy. It felt good.
