The Story of Fox McCloud part 2

It was very quiet that night, the only sounds were the gentle blow of the wind and the waves splashing onto the shore. The moon's rays shined down on the island and all its inhabitants.

Fox and Krystal were asleep in their room but as they lay sound asleep in dream land someone was lurking outside. The door was of course locked but for this master assassin it was only a small obstacle. With quick work of his fingers and special tools for the job the door opened and he slowly slinked inside.

The door was just softly behind him as to not awake the others in the room. Looking over in the bed were Fox and Krystal wrapped in each other's arms. With soft steps the intruder made his way over to them until he stood over them.

His eyes scanned carefully over the two and he made sure not to move to much or breath to harm so they wouldn't awaken. He looked over to Fox and slowly moved his hands towards his target. He knew that once he grabbed his catch he'd very only a few moments to get out before they became aware of his presence.

He moved his hands in closer and closer. But as he did so Krystal rolled over in her sleep, and as she did her eyes opened for a moment. And that is when she saw this dark figure standing over her and reaching for her.

She let out a shriek but then kicked the intruder in the chest, sending him falling off the bed. Fox was awoken from the scream and in his surprise rolled out of bed and onto the floor.

Krystal got up to look at her attacker who quickly got up and jumped at her. He managed to grab her although she resisted him and the two began struggling around the room.

"Fox! Fox!" Krystal yelled for him. At that moment Fox picked himself up off the floor and looked over to see Krystal and the intruder silhouetted against the window. As quick as a flash Fox jumped up and over the bed. With another step forward he raised his leg up and kicked the intruder square in the face, sending him stumbling back and out the window.

Fox and Krystal both looked out to see their intruder in the light for the first time. And to their surprise it was a familiar face.

"Leon!" they exclaimed upon seeing the lizard dangling from the side of the building.

"If Leon's here." Said Krystal turning to Fox." That can only mean one thing." And Fox knew the dangerous truth. His old rival Star Wolf was here and they'd come for their revenge against him.

"We have to go." Fox said turning to her." Now!" The two did not waste time, taking time only to dress themselves and then made their escape.

They ran as fast as they could out of the room, across the hallway, down the stairs and into the lobby. But that's when they came upon another familiar face, the lobby was empty except for one person.

Panther stood before the doors and in his hand was a machine gun. Fox and Krystal were of course unarmed and could nothing but duck behind furniture for cover when he started firing.

Meanwhile Leon continued to dangle from the side of the building and was trying his best to climb back up. But then luck shined on him.

As he tried to pull himself up and hand leaned itself down and offered itself to him. Leon quickly took it and was pulled up and back into the room, now with a friend.

"They got away." He said once his feet had touched back onto the ground. The two suddenly heard the sound of gunfire in the distance. Wolf turned with half his face shining in the light and his mechanical eye glowing.

"Then the hunt is on." He smiled.

Fox and Krystal continued to duck and dive behind furniture while Panther continued to fire. The two were stuck behind a couch while bullets flew over them, tearing the couch into shreds.

While under fire Fox looked around for the nearest exit. The closest one was a stairway off to their left but it went upstairs and nothing but open space was between them and it. But it was the only choice they had.

"When he stops firing." Fox said to Krystal." Run for the stairs." He pointed it out to her. She looked over and nodded her acknowledgment to him. The gunfire continued on for several more seconds but then it suddenly stopped.

Panther pulled the trigger back on his gun only to hear a clicking sound in return. He'd ran and out of bullets and had to reload. When the gunfire stopped Fox wasted no time.

"Go!" He signaled to Krystal and together the two got up and ran for the stairs. As he tried to reload Panther looked up to see the two running. He fumbled with the magazine as he tried to quicken his reloading.

But Fox and Krystal had made it to the stairs. Fox opened to the door to let Krystal go in first, using the time to look back at his attackers. Panther still fumbled with his magazine but then two others appeared. On the other side of the lobby enter Wolf and Leon.

Fox and his old enemy made eye contact and when they did all time seemed to stand still. Wolf put his hand into his coat and pulled out his pistol, firing two shots off at Fox. The bullets landed just above Fox head, he took it as a sign that he should continue running.

Wolf watched as Fox jumped into the stairwell. After his escape Wolf grunted his anger. He turned and looked to Leon who had failed to capture them in the first place and second to Panther who had not stopped them in the lobby.

"Find them!" he roared.

And his cries could be heard by Fox and Krystal up several flights of stairs already.

"Star Wolf?" questioned Krystal as the two of them stopped." How did they get here?"

"I don't know." Replied Fox."But it's clear enough why their here." Fox looked down the flights of stairs they'd come up and then up towards the ones above them." I'm sorry Krystal, sorry about all this."

"Don't be. I knew what I was getting into when I married you." She said in an attempt to cheer him up and it worked. Fox could only smile, even in these dark moment Krystal always kept her chin up and he must do the same now.

"They went up this way!" they both heard echo from below. Peaking over the railing they looked down and could see Leon and Panther making their way up the stairs.

"Let's go!" said Fox. Then he and Krystal kept going up the stairs with their followers behind them.

So Fox and Krystal began the desperate attempt of trying to lose their attackers. But every turn they made always led Star Wolf closer and closer to them. And by the skin of their teeth they'd escape their grasp or bullet fire. So Fox ad Krystal just kept running up the building, unaware it would take them farther away from an exit.

Fox and Krystal turned down the hallway and then came face to face with Panther. They'd easily have doubled back but Leon was on the other end of the hallway coming right for them.

With the two cornered it appeared that Fox and Krystal would have to fight their way out as Panther and Leon just got closer and closer cornering them.

Then Panther jumped forward and tried to punch Fox only he blocked. Leon then lunged for at Krystal and tried to grab her. But Krystal quickly kicked out her leg and hit Leon in the knee sending him to the ground. Then with her hands on his shoulders she pushed him off and into the wall.

Fox blocked another punch from Panther, then he punched Panther twice in the stomach before doing the same to him and tossing him onto Leon.

"Let's keep moving." Said Fox and without another word he and Krystal continued upstairs.

It was at this moment that Wolf arrived with a cigar in his mouth to see Leon and Panther laying on each other against the wall.

"There went upstairs." Groaned Leon as he pointed it out to Wolf.

Wolf turned and looked up to see Fox and Krystal's shadows running across the wall. Wolf turned around and grabbed a nearby chair and easily broke on of it's legs off. Then he pulled the cigar from his mouth and put it over the leg until it lit on fire.

"This time we got him for sure." Wolf said as he ran up the stairs.

Then he alone went up and after Fox and Krystal. But the two Foxes had been cornered. They had traveled nearly all the way to the top of the building. Now they stood in a small room with several desk, chairs and other pieces of furniture with the only means of escape being a window.

That being their only escape Fox decided to take it.

"C'mon." He said to Krystal as he walked over to the window." This way."

"You can't be serious." Said Krystal.

"It's our only way out." Said Fox. He picked her up and steadied her out the window. Krystal grabbed onto the wall and stood halfway in the window." Go, climb to the roof. I'll meet you there."

"But-"

"Go! I'll be right behind you." And Krystal said no more and began climbing up to the roof. Below her was a several hundred feet drop to the ground so she had to keep her hand steady.

Once she'd cleared away from the window Fox was ready to climb out himself but then something happened. A light shined over Fox emitting his shadow against the wall.

When Fox turned around there was Wolf and in his hand was a burning stick. Wolf raised the stick and swung it at Fox. But fox managed to jump out of the way and Wolf hit the curtains to the window, setting them ablaze.

Fox then ducked out of Wolf's way and ran around the room with Wolf chasing after him and swinging his stick as he went. The fire continued to burn around them but Wolf did not seem to care as much as Fox.

Fox picked up a chair and prepared to defend himself. When Wolf ran up and swung his fire stick Fox blocked with the chair. But as Wolf continued to swing harder the chair set on fire and eventually broke.

Wolf stood over Fox and prepared to swing again. But it was now that Fox noticed that Wolf was standing on a rug and he was not also his back was to the window. With the fire around them and growing Fox needed to escape quick.

So Fox reached forward and pulled the rug right out from under Wolf's feet, sending him onto his back.

Then Fox turned and bolted out the window, grabbing the wall and climbing up to the roof. Luckily he made it and Krystal had made it was well. She walked over to the ledge and pulled Fox onto the roof.

"Are you alright?" she asked.

"Yea." Groaned Fox as he was lifted to the roof. But that's when they both realized another problem. The fire Wolf started kept burning and was now on the roof.

Fox turned his head downwards and to the window he'd just escaped out of. There not to his surprise he saw Wolf poked his out and then he himself began climbing up towards them.

Now things were as bad as they could be. Wolf was coming for them, the building was on fire, and there was no way off the roof.

Fox and Krystal looked to each other. They knew this was the end and that there was no safe way off this roof. Fox reached over and put his arm around Krystal to comfort her.

"We had a good run." He said.

Just then a bright light shined down on them that blinded the two. But the light shined away and the two looked up to see a spaceship hovering over them. Now the two thought they were in deep trouble, trapped between a fire roaring around them Wolf nearly there and now a Wolfen hovering over them.

But as the two looked closer they saw it was not a Wolfen, in fact it was not even a ship they recognized. And when the doors of the ship slid open the two were surprised by the figure who stood there.

"Can I offer some assistance?" asked the man standing there. And that man was Captain Falcon, an old friend of Fox's.

"Douglas?" questioned Fox in surprised.

"There's not a moment to lose." Said Captain Falcon as he urged the two aboard his ship. So the two did as they were told and ran aboard his ship. Fox helped Krystal onboard before he himself got on.

Then Captain Falcon signaled to the driver of the ship who was known other than Samus. So Samus closed the doors to the ship and drove off.

And just as the doors closed Fox turned around to see Wolf had climbed onto the roof, surrounded by the fire only to see his prey fly off into the night sky.
