The Story of Fox McCloud part 3
Now that it seemed all the mayhem and chasing was over Fox and Krystal finally got a chance to cool down. They sat next to each other panting with adrenaline but smiling as the ordeal was behind them. Captain Falcon came over with two bottles of water and handed it to the couple.
"Here." He offered it to them." Drink this but slowly. It'll help keep you out of shock." The two accepted and began drinking while Captain Falcon took a seat across from them. After several moments of silence and things settling down Fox decided to speak up.
"Thank you." He said to Captain Falcon." If you hadn't shown up when you did things could have gotten really bad for us."
"You should just be lucky I was in the neighborhood." He replied." What were you two doing here anyway?" Fox dipped his head back and drank his water as Krystal replied.
"The usual romantic getaway. Soft lights, romantic music, and a rival mercenary team trying to kills us."
"Just another day in paradise?" chuckled Captain Falcon.
"You could say that." Said Fox. He cocked his eyes from Captain Falcon to Samus, who this whole time had been steering the ship and had yet to say one word." What about you two." He pointed to the two of them." What are you two doing together?" Captain Falcon looked to Samus steering and then back to Fox and Krystal looking at him with prying curious eyes.
"Well we were-"He paused to clear his throat." We were talking a small vacation."
"Together?" asked Krystal closing her hands together for emphasis. Captain Falcon nodded, ducking his head sliding to hide his blushing face." Well good for you."
"Always knew you had it in you, Doug." Added Fox.
"You know once we get back to Corneria we should double date. There's hardly any other couples for Fox or I to hang out with." There was Krystal once again even after such a tense and nearly life ending moment was bringing a nice warmth to the mood.
Captain Falcon was about to reply but he was cut off as the ship suddenly rattled and bounced himself and the two Foxes up causing them to fall to the ground." What was that?!" He shouted jumping to his feet and running up to Samus.
"We're being tailed." She responded as Captain Falcon, Fox and Krystal came up and stood around her. Looking on the radar the image of an unidentified ship could clearly be made.
"Your attackers are very persistent." Commented Captain Falcon. Samus jerked at the controls attempting to get the ship stable again. Fox looked on the radar to recognize the ship as the Wolfen.
But the sudden sound of stomping from above caught the attention of the group inside.
"What was that?" asked Krystal.
"Can't be anything good." Replied Samus. Then all at once someone came crashing through the windows, shattering glass all over the floor as he came in. Everyone turned and looked around as Wolf stood up in the center of the room.
"You are persistent Wolf. "Fox said. But now the tide had changed and here Fox could get answers about this whole thing." What are you doing here?"
"Business." Was all Wolf replied. Whatever that meant, everyone knew it couldn't be good.
"But the odds don't look good for you." Said Fox as he took a step forward." Your outnumbered four to one, even you must know the odds are against you." Krystal and Captain Falcon stood behind Fox and prepared to jump Wolf along with him.
"Why fight harder when you can fight smarter?" And without a moment to lose Wolf pulled out a grenade form his pocket and held it up for all to see, with his thumb inside the pin. And with a simple flick of his finger he could put it out. Needless to say that put everyone on edge and they back up a step." Now we can do this the easy way or we can do this the hard way. Which is it?"
"I always thought you were above that Wolf." Fox said." I always though you wanted to finish me with your bare hands."
"Circumstances dictate the situation now." Wolf told him.
"What do you want?" asked Captain Falcon.
"The girl." Snake pointed to Krystal.
"What do you want with Krystal?" asked Fox stepping between her and Wolf and acting as a shield.
"Business."
"What kind of business?"
"That's between my employer and I. Now if you cooperate then we can all walk away."
"I would rather die than hand her over to you!" Fox exclaimed.
"That can be arranged." Smiled Wolf. And with a quick flick of his finger the pin on the grenade came out and he tossed the grenade forward.
And times seemed to slow down as the grenade flew forward. Krystal, Captain Falcon, and Fox all ducked and turned their heads as they saw the grenade fly over them and towards the driver's seat where Samus was.
"No!" yelled Captain Falcon as he jumped at her. But the Grenade flew over and landed right next to Samus and then exploded. Samus was covered in a cloud of smoke and fire. And the ship began to rock and shake moving everybody inside around, except for Wolf who balanced himself with in the plane.
As the ship began to shake Krystal found herself sliding across the floor and landing right at the feet of Snake. He wasted no time and quickly reached down to grab her.
"No, No Fox!" she yelled and struggled. Fox looked up from the floor just in time to see Wolf jump out the same window he came from with Krystal in his arms. He tried to follow but the ship's unstable stability forced him to change his priorities.
"Douglas!" Fox yelled and turned to see Captain Falcon being rolled around on the floor, but who was closer to the controls than himself." Can you grab the wheel?!" Both men tried to make it over to where the wheel was. But everything was happening so fast and the ship continued to rock out of control, knocking the two from side to side.
Then all at once the ship began spinning out of control and spiraled into the ground. There was an explosion of fire and black clouds soured into the sky.
But Fox had managed to survive and in the aftermath of the explosion freed himself from the wreckage. He kicked his legs out, pushing any debris away from him. Then he stood up and survived the scene. The ship was destroyed, it's many pieces scattered in burning fragments all around him.
Fox looked down to inspect himself to see he was no worse for the wear. His cloths ripped and his skin bleeding from glass shards in his body. Fox picked up his head and sought to look to see if Captain Falcon had survived and Samus if it was at all possible.
Fox took several limp steps out into the open and that's where he saw them. He saw Captain Falcon hunched over and on his knees with something in his arms. Fox walked up from behind him and stopped once he was directly behind him.
Looking down he saw Samus cold and limp body, with the right side of her face burned in Captain Falcon's arms while he cradled her. It was just as Fox feared. But he knew the situation was bad, both of them had survived the crash but they'd been hurt. Either they'd bleed out or they'd go into shock and neither would be good considering their in the middle of nowhere. So Fox had to do one of the hardest things he'd ever have to, pry one of his friends away from his dead loved one.
He reached forward and put his hand on Captain Falcon's shoulder.
"Douglas?" He said in a voice as strong as he could manage." There's nothing we can do for her. We've-" But now as he leaned forward he watched as Captain Falcon's body fell forward, still holding Samus in his arms. Now Fox feared Captain Falcon had died as well." Douglas!" he exclaimed. But as he took a step forward Fox suddenly felt a strange feeling in his body, a sort of woozy feeling. He became light-headed, his body shake and finally his eyes closed as his body fell flat onto the ground.
And for most people that would have been the end. However Fox was a firm believer in luck and as it had so happened luck was on his side that night. They were alive. For all intensive purposes that was a good thing.
This attack had been different. Despite his appearance, the target of Wolf's attack was not Fox McCloud for once.
"There's something going on here. "Fox mused aloud. Wolf would not team up with anyone to take Fox down. And since Krystal was his priority he must have known Fox would survive one way or another.
"So where do we start?" asked a voice. Fox was surprised to see Captain Falcon had risen up beside him, without Fox noticing. He was solemn and grim in his speech." Where do we go from here?"
"We have to figure out which way they went." Told Fox.
"I remember them heading off in that direction." Captain Falcon pointed.
"That's our only lead." Commented Fox.
"Well what are we waiting for? Let's go."
"Douglas!" called Fox jumping up." We can't just rush into this, we should sit tight for a bit and get our bearings a little bit more."
"Is that all you have to say?!" yelled Captain Falcon." After what they did to Samus, after they kidnapped Krystal are you really going to sit back any longer?!" He pointed an incriminating finger at him. And as Fox began to think it over he began to realize that maybe they'd rested enough and that direct action was the best approach.
"Alright Douglas." He nodded." We won't sit back anymore, let's go do this." Captain Falcon nodded and turned to led the way. Fox went to followed after but only at a steady march. So then the trio of Fox McCloud. Captain Falcon set off from n the direction of the mountains. It was the only lead they had to go on but they had to try.
But little did they know that a lot more was going on than they expected.
