P.S. The OC in this story was created by my friend Enneastale on wattpad.
When Ash woke up the day after the festival, it was almost noon. Ash thought back to the previous night. Ash, along with Lillie and Hau, had went around the festival doing all kinds of stuff. This ranged from trying out the food and watching the shows there to just sitting down and talking to each other.
The festival was going to go on all night but Ash and Lillie were already tired after a couple of hours. They said goodbye to Hau and went back to Kukui's house. Kukui had already returned and he instantly told them to go to bed. They were already worn out so they didn't object.
Ash looked around as he got up. He saw the Pokémons sleeping and smiled. Rowlet was sleeping on one of the pillows on the couch, with Popplio next to him. Near them was Eevee, who was curled up on the sofa with Nebby sleeping while leaning on him. Rot was sleeping on a charger on one of the shelves. Ash decided to take a bath to start his day.
"Good morning Ash," Kukui said as walked out of the bathroom. Ash turned and saw Kukui making breakfast.
"Morning Professor," Ash said. "Lillie's still asleep?"
"Yeah," Kukui said. "It's not surprising considering that you guys spent the day at Hau'oli and then went straight to the festival"
"Yeah," Ash said. "I'm still kinda tired myself"
They then heard a yawn coming from the direction of the living room. Ash and Kukui turned and saw Lillie walking to them while still in her nightwear, which is a pink pajama.
"Speak of the devil..." Ash muttered to himself. "Morning Lillie," He said to her as he set up the dining table.
"Morning Ash," Lillie said. She then sat down on one of the chairs. Ash then sat down next to her.
"Morning Lillie" Kukui said as he laid down the food on the table. "Looks like yesterday took a toll on you huh?"
Lillie yawned again. "Yeah," She said as she rubbed her eyes.
"In that case then why don't you finish your food and take a shower," Kukui said as he sat down on one of the chairs.
"That sounds like a good idea," Lillie said as she started eating.
Half an hour later, Lillie had already taken a shower and was be fully dressed in her new clothes. The Pokémons are all awake and they are planning on what to do for the day.
"I think you should start working on your Island Challenge," Kukui said.
"I know," Ash said. "But how exactly do I do the Island Challenge? I doubt it's like a normal gym"
"You're right it isn't," Kukui said. "The Island Challenge is mostly divided into two parts. The Trials and The Grand Trials. The Trials are where the trial-goers take on each of the trials on an Island. There are a different number of trials on different Islands and each of the trials is unique. Once you've beaten every trial on an Island, you then challenge the Kahuna of the Island on a Grand Trial, which is where you battle the Kahuna. After finishing all 4 grand trials, you will be given the honorary title of Island Champion" Kukui explained.
Ash nodded in understanding. "So I have to do the trials first before challenging the Kahuna," Ash said. "Alright. Where can I do the trial?" Ash asked.
"The trials aren't something that you can do anytime you want Ash" Kukui said "Trials are overseen by Trial Captains, which are trainers chosen by the Kahuna to manage the trials. If you want to do a trial then you'll have to tell them first and they'll arrange a time for you to do it"
"So where can we find a Trial Captain?" Lillie asked.
"Well, one of them actually lives in Hau'oli city," Kukui said. "Last I heard he was going to help clean up Iki Town today"
"It's decided then," Ash said. "We're going to Iki Town and we're going to look for the Trial Captain" He then turned to Eevee and Rowlet and returned them to their Pokeballs. "See you in the evening professor," Ash said as he went out the front door.
Lillie sighed at Ash's antics while Kukui just laughed. Kukui turned to Lillie. "You're gonna have to use your Agility if you want to go after him," He said.
"Yeah," Lillie said. She recalled Popplio into her Pokeball and grabbed her bag. She opened the bag for Nebby and he flew in, along with Rotom.
"See you later Professor," Lillie said as she went after Ash.
It didn't take long for Ash and Lillie to make their way to Iki Town. The town was bursting with activities. Everywhere they looked, there would be people clearing out the remains of the festival from the previous night. They looked around for a bit before stopping.
"So, how are we going to find the Trial Captain?" Ash asked.
"I don't know," Lillie said. "Maybe we can ask someone here?"
"That could work," Ash said. He saw a person walking by and was about to ask him for help when he stopped himself. "Wait," Ash said. "We don't know their name"
Lillie's eyes widened in realization. "You're right," Lillie said. "So how are we supposed to find them?"
"Find who?" Ash and Lillie nearly jumped in surprise. They turned around and saw Hau standing there.
"Hau!" They said in unison. "What are you doing here?"
"Alola!" Hau laughed. "I was walking around when I saw you two here. Thought I'd see what you two are doing"
"Oh," Lillie said. "That makes sense I guess"
"So, who are you looking for?" Hau asked one more time.
"Oh," Ash said as he remembered what they were doing. "We're looking for the Trial Captain. Professor Kukui said that he'd be here but we don't know his name and we have no idea how he looks like" Ash explained. "You don't happen to know where he is, do you?"
"The Trial Captain?" Hau said. "I only know one here in Melemele and I've never met him before. His name is Ilima. I don't know where he is though"
"Oh, alright," Ash said "At least we know his name now"
"Yeah," Lillie said. "We can ask around to see if anyone knows where he is"
"My gramps might," Hau said. "He is the Kahuna after all"
"Alright then," Ash said. "I guess we should ask Mr. Hala if he knows where Ilima is"
Lillie nodded. "Can you show us where Kahuna Hala is Hau?"
"Sure," Hau said. "Come on" Hau started walking with Ash and Lillie following behind him. They found Hala near the entrance to Mahalo Trail. He was helping down some people to take down the tent.
"Alola Gramps!" Hau said as they walked towards the Kahuna. Hala turned towards them and smiled.
"Alola Hau, Ash, Lillie!" Hala said. "How are you on this beautiful day?"
"Alola Kahuna Hala" Lillie smiled at the Kahuna. "We're fine"
Ash nodded while smiling. "That's good," Hala said. "You did spend a lot of time at the festival last night"
"Ash and Lillie were looking for Ilima," Hau said. "I thought you might know since you're the Kahuna"
"Ilima?" Hala said. "Are you perhaps looking to take on his trial?"
Ash nodded. "Yeah!" He said. "I want to start my Island Challenge as soon as possible"
"Wait?" Hau said. "You're going to ask to take on Illima's trial?"
"Yeah" Ash answered once more.
"That's awesome," Hau said. "Can I come too?" He asked as he started jumping up and down.
Ash looked towards Lillie and saw her shrug. "Sure," Ash said. "I don't see why not"
"Awesome!" Hau said.
Hala laughed at their interactions. "He was here earlier today," Hala said. "But there were problems at the Marina, so he left to help take care of it"
"Problems?" Lillie asked. "What kind of problem?"
"Something about a group of people annoying visitors there," Hala said.
"So, he's at the Marina?" Ash said. "What's the Marina again?"
"The Marina is the name of the docks here at Melemele Island" Lillie explained. "You can go there if you want to visit the other islands"
Ash nodded. "So how do we get there?" Ash asked.
"Leave it to me roto!" Rotom said as he flew out of Lillie's bag. His screen changed to load up a map of Melemele Island.
"According to my data, this is the fastest route to the Hau'oli Marina," Hau said as a red path appeared on the map.
"Thank you Rotom," Lillie said.
"Glad I could help, Lillie!" Rotom said while giving Lillie a salute.
"Alright then, Let's Go!" Hau said.
"Before you go, here," Hala said. He handed them paper bags which seemed to be filled with some sort of bread that smells heavenly.
"Those are Malasadas," Hala said. "Those are some leftovers from yesterday night"
"I don't know what exactly Malasadas are, but these smell delicious," Ash said. "Thank you, Mr. Hala," Ash said.
"Yes thank you Kahuna Hala" Lillie said.
"You don't know what Malasadas are?" Hau asked with a dumbfounded look on his face. Ash and Lillie sweatdropped at Hau's reaction.
"Honestly Hau," Lillie said. "Ash had only been in Alola for less than 2 weeks. And he spent most of the training at the Professor's house"
"No problem Ash, Lillie," Hala said. "And please, it's just Hala"
"Alright, Mr- I mean Hala," Ash said. "Goodbye"
"Goodbye," Lillie copied Ash.
"See ya later gramps!" Hau said. The three of them then walked away following the guide from Rotom.
"I still can't believe you don't know what Malasadas are," Hau said exasperatedly as they walked through Route 1.
"It's not that surprising Hau," Ash said as he took a bite of his malasada. "I have only explored Hau'oli once with Lillie and that was spent mostly in the shopping district. The other times I've been there was only to buy groceries for Professor Kukui"
"It's still unbelievable!" Hau said as he finished another malasada.
Lillie rolled her eyes at Hau. "Instead of complaining, why don't you just explain it to Ash?" She suggested.
"That's right!" Hau said, finishing yet another malasada. "You see Ash. Malasadas are the specialty food here in Alola. They are made from fresh ingredients that are produced in Alola, and they processed everything in Alola as well. And that's why it has an Alolan taste and are famous in Alola"
Ash and Lillie blinked at Hau's explanation. "That's... a lot of Alolas," Lillie said.
"Yea.." Ash nodded his agreement. "Well, I don't really get it, but it sounds great" Ash finished another malasada and took out another one. "Besides, it's tasty and that's all that matters"
Ash was about to eat his malasada when a pokemon leaped from the ground and took it. Ash jumped backward in surprise. He looked to the ground and saw the pokemon that took his malasada.
The pokemon had an oval-shaped body. The back part was white with yellow circles on the side. The head was orange and brown with a yellow line in between. It's got a pair of pincers with its mouth located in between them.
"It's a Grubbin!" Hau said.
"A Grubbin?" Ash asked.
"Leave it to me roto!" Rotom said. He flew in front of grubbin and scanned it.
"Grubbin, The Larva Pokémon. A Bug-type. Its strong jaw enables it to scrape trees and slurp out the sap. It normally lives underground" Rotom said.
"A bug type," Ash said as he eyed Grubbin, who was eating the malasada. "Alright!" Ash yelled. Lillie and Hau both jumped in surprise. "I've decided that you will be my first catch in Alola!" Ash said to Grubbin as he extended an arm holding a Pokeball.
"Rowlet, I choose you!" Ash said. He tossed the Pokeball upwards. The Pokeball burst open and Rowlet appeared with a battle cry in front of Ash. Grubbin saw this and seemed to understand what's going on. It shifted into a battle stance and growled.
"Alright Rowlet, use Peck!" Ash said. Rowlet obeyed and flew towards Grubbin with his beak glowing light blue. Grubbin's pincer glowed white and it watched as Rowlet flew towards it. Right when Rowlet was about to hit Grubbin, it clamped down with its pincers, trapping Rowlet with them. He then spun around and threw Rowlet away.
"Rowlet!" Ash said. Rowley managed to recover himself and flew before hitting the ground. He cried out its name to Ash, making Ash grin.
"Glad you're okay bud!" Ash said. He then looked towards Grubbin, who was still eyeing them carefully. "You're a tough one aren't you?" Ash said to it.
"Ash, that was Vice Grip!" Rotom said.
"Good to know," Ash said. He then turned towards Rowlet with a grin. "Alright Rowlet, let's do this properly this time. Use Leafage!"
Rowlet created Leaves around him and then flapped his wings, sending the leaves towards Grubbin. Grubbin saw the leaves and dodged by going underground. It reappeared around a meter from where it was.
"So that's not gonna work," Ash said to himself. "Well, in that case, use Tackle!"
Rowlet's body glowed white and he flew towards Grubbin. Grubbin's pincers once again glowed white as he waited for Rowlet to get close. Right when Rowlet was about to hit, Grubbin's pincers once again clamped on Rowlet. Ash smirks as he saw this.
"That's it!" Ash said. "Now use Leafage!"
Leaves appeared in the air around Rowlet. Rowlet growled and the leaves suddenly flew towards Grubbin. Grubbin released Rowlet and tried going underground but it was too late as the leaves hit it.
"Alright Rowlet, finish it with Peck!" Ash said.
Rowlet's beak glowed light blue and he flew towards the disoriented Grubbin. Grubbin didn't have enough time to recover from the previous attack and was hit by the super effective move.
"Now's the time!" Ash said as he took out an empty Pokeball. "Go, Pokeball!" Ash threw the Pokeball towards Grubbin. It hit Grubbin's head and bounced off of it. It then opened up and red lights appeared and sucked Grubbin inside. The Pokeball then fell to the ground and started shaking.
Ash and the others watched as the Pokeball shook once, then twice, and one last time and then it made a bell-like sound, signaling a successful capture.
Grubbin's data has been added to the Pokedex
"Alright!" Ash said as he ran towards the Pokeball. He grabbed it and extended his arm towards Hau and Lillie. "I just caught a Grubbin!" Ash said. Rowlet flew to his head and cried out its name in agreement.
"Congratulations Ash!" Lillie smiled at him.
"Yeah, you're first Alolan catch!" Hau added.
Ash nodded at them. "Alright Grubbin, come on out!" Ash said as he lightly tossed the Pokeball upwards. It burst open and revealed Grubbin.
"Hey there Grubbin," Ash said. "My name's Ash. I want to become the strongest trainer in the world and I want you to be a part of it. What do you say? I would love to have a tough Pokemon like you on the team"
"Row-Row!" Rowlet said encouragingly.
Grubbin didn't even hesitate as he cried out happily and jumped at Ash. Ash laughed as Grubbin nuzzled him.
"Glad to have you on the team Grubbin," Ash said as he recalled Grubbin into his Pokeball. He then turned towards Rowlet.
"Thanks, Rowlet," Ash said. "You did an amazing job" Rowlet cried out in happiness. "Now have some rest" Ash then recalled Rowlet into his Pokeball.
"We should keep on looking for Ilima now," Ash said as he turned towards Hau and Lillie
"Yeah," Lillie said while Hau nodded his agreement.
"Let's go then!" Said Hau.
The Marina was located right next to the entrance of Hau'oli, so it didn't take long for Ash, Lillie, and Hau to find it. Rotom had opted to went back to instantly went back to Lillie's bag when they arrived. Apparently, he doesn't feel comfortable with a lot of people around.
Ash didn't blame him though. Rotom was right, there were lots of people around, some of them were obviously tourists, but there were also quite a lot of people who seemed to be there for various reasons. Ash could see a man carrying a couple of fishing rods. He seemed to be from around there or at least had been there multiple times as he knew where he was going instantly. Ash guessed that he was a fisherman who was on a fishing trip, or maybe he's doing a fishing trip to Melemele.
Another person that Ash noticed was a woman with green hair carrying a bag of groceries. She was accompanied by a girl who looked to be around 17. The girl also had green hair, although a lighter shade of green, making Ash guess that they were mother and daughter. They were leaving Melemele so Ash guessed that they were here to buy food supplies, probably for a restaurant.
Ash shook his head. He was there to find Ilima, not to guess about other people's life.
"So," Hau said. "Any idea where we can find him in this crowd?"
The situation seemed familiar to Ash. And he knew why.
"This is just like Iki Town again" Lillie voiced his thought. She was a little bit nervous being around lots of people but Ash and Hau's presence made her feel confident, though it was mostly Ash's.
"We should ask around," Ash said. "It worked once, so I don't see any reason for it to not work this time"
"That might be our best option," Lillie said.
"Well, it's either that or we spend the entire day checking the entire Marina" Hau added.
"Who should we ask though?" Ash asked.
Hau shrugged. "If anyone's seen him then it's probably the security guards"
"There's one there" Lillie pointed at one of the pillars. There stood a guard who was looking around, making sure there wasn't anyone making problems.
"Perfect" Ash said. The trio made their way to the guard.
"Excuse me, sir" Ash started. "We're looking for the Trial Captain Ilima. You don't happen to have seen him anywhere have you?"
"Ilima?" He asked. The three teens nodded. "Yeah, I did saw him. Just a while ago actually. There were some members of team skulls messing with people here. Ilima helped us stopped them and he told us that he would take care of them and left with the Skull grunts"
"Team Skull?" Ash asked. "Are they like, an evil team of something?"
"I wouldn't exactly call them evil," The guard said. "They don't harm people or have some sort of evil plot to destroy the world. They mostly just annoys people and maybe some vandalism here and there, but nothing too big. The only mentionable thing they've done is probably Po Town"
"So they're just thugs?" Ash asked.
"Yeah" The guard nodded. "That basically sums it up. I personally think that their just looking for attention, which is not a bad thing. It's the way their doing it that's bad"
Ash nodded and let out a sigh of relief. He was worried that some evil organization is going to try and destroy the world again, and he was going to be forced to stop it again, not that he would run if it's an option.
"We're getting off tracked here" Lillie reminded Ash.
"Right. Ilima" Ash said. "Any idea where he was taking the Skull grunts to?"
The guard thought about it. "I would say that he's probably taking them over to the Police Station at Hau'oli," The guard said. "It would be the logical choice"
"Yeah you're right," Lillie said. "Thank you, sir" She bowed her thanks.
"No problem kids," The guard said with a smile. "Just doing my job"
"See you around sir" Ash waved as they walked away. The guard waved back at him.
"So, the Police Station," Ash said. "Any idea where it is?"
"I know exactly where it is," Hau said. "It's right next to the Malasadas store. I've seen it countless times before"
"Of course it's Malasadas," Lillie said while rolling her eyes.
"Well, then," Ash said. "Lead the way"
"This way," Hau said as he led them through the road.
It only took them 10 minutes to find the Police Station. But it took them 20 to convince Hau to go to the Police Station.
"You already had Malasadas earlier today Hau, so no. Besides, we need to check out the Police Station" Lillie said.
Hau sighed. "Alright fine" He finally said.
"Come on let's go," Ash said. Hau wasn't kidding when he said that the Police Station was right next to the Malasadas Shop. It was literally right next to it. Ash didn't know whose idea was it to put the Station next to a food shop, but it's not really his problem.
They saw an officer sitting in front of the Police Station and decided to ask him for help.
"Excuse me, Officer," Ash said.
The officer turned towards them and grunted. "What do you want kids? Can't you bother someone else?"
Ash and the others blinked. "Uhh... We're looking for Ilima" Ash said. "We heard that he came here with two Skull grunts"
The Officer gave an annoyed sighed. "Yes, he did come here. Yes, he did bring in two Skull grunts. And no, I don't know where he is" The officer said. "Now shoo! I have a job to do here" The office made shooing motion with his hands.
"What a rude person," Lillie said.
"Yea," Ash said. "But what do we do now? That was our best lead at finding Ilima, and now we've hit a dead-end"
"Well, why don't we get some Malasadas first?" Hau said, making Ash and Lillie sweatdrop.
"Honestly Hau, are Malasadas the only thing in your mind?" Lillie asked.
"Excuse me," A voice said behind them. They turned around and saw a boy around their age standing there. He had messy blond hair, sky blue eyes, and his skin was mildly tan. He was wearing a white t-shirt with a brown leather jacket up top, along with a pair of jeans.
"I heard that you were looking for Ilima. I assume you mean the Trial Captain?" The boy said.
"Yeah," Ash said. "I'm sorry, who are you again?"
"Oh right, sorry," The boy said. "My name's Arevi Harlem. I'm Ilima's younger brother" The now identified Arevi extended his arms towards them. Ash and the others all took turns shaking his hand.
"So, Arevi, can you help us find your brother?" Ash asked.
"Definitely," Arevi said. "I was about to look for him myself"
That's when Hau noticed the bracelet on his wrist. "Hold on is that a Z-Ring?" Hau asked.
Arevi looked towards his left arm and nodded. "Yeah," He said. "In fact, I had just finished my Akala trials"
"That's awesome," Hau said. "Me and Ash have only recently begun our Island Trials"
"Really?" Arevi asked.
"Yeah," Ash said. "That's why we're looking for Ilima. We want to take on his trial"
"In that case then I can't keep you waiting here," He said. "Come on, let's go find my brother" he then started walking away from the Police Station.
Ash, Lillie, and Hau followed him. "Do you know where he is?" Hau asked.
"Yeah," Arevi said. "He is my brother you know. I can easily tell where he is. Well, that and I asked my mum earlier"
The place that Arevi leads them to is not where Ash and the others expected. It was Iki Town. Compared to this morning, Iki Town was a lot cleaner. With no more tents and makeshift stages along with the trashes being clean, it made Iki Town look like the calm peaceful town that Ash visited when first arriving in Alola.
"Iki Town?" Hau said, clearly confused. "But wasn't this where we started looking for him?"
"Yeah," Ash said.
"Wait," Lillie said. "Didn't Kahuna Hala said that he was helping take care of the problem at the Marina?"
Ash and Hau nodded.
"Then that means that, after he's taken care of the problem, he would return here, to Iki Town, cause this is where he was supposed to be," Lillie said.
Ash and Hau blinked. "You're right," Ash said. "Why didn't we think of that?"
"Wait, that means that we could have just waited here?" Hau asked.
Arevi laughed at them. "Well, Illima might not have come back here actually," He said. "My brother's pretty busy, always helping out wherever he can, that's why it's just luck that he would return here"
The three 15-year-olds nodded in understanding.
"Speaking of which," Arevi said. "There he is" He pointed at a boy who was talking to one of the townspeople. He looked to be around 18, 19 maybe. He had pink hair, which was neatly combed to the side. His eyes were gray with a hint of blue in them. He was wearing a white shirt and white pants, with a brown vest on top of the shirt. He had finger gloves on, a pair of white and brown sneakers and there seemed to be an emblem tied to his hair.
"Hey Bro!" Arevi shouted as they walked towards Ilima. Ilima heard him and turned towards them. He saw Arevi and his eyes lit up.
"Hello Brother," Ilima said. "Long time no see. I see you've finished your Akala Trials?"
"Yeah," Arevi said. "I'll be heading over to Ula'ula next, but I figured that I would spend some time here with my favorite brother before heading off again"
"That sounds wonderful. I'm glad you decided to spare time with family, but do keep in mind that I'm your only brother" Ilima said. "So, care to introduce me to your friends?"
"Oh right," Arevi said. "I met these guys when looking for you. They were looking for you so I thought I would help them you know"
"How nice of you, Brother," Ilima said. He then turned towards Ash, Lillie, and Hau."Alola. My name is Ilima Harlem, the only Trial Captain here in Melemele. How may I be of assistance?"
"Alola," Lillie said. "My name is Lillie, I'm just here to accompany these guys"
"Alola" Ash said. "I'm-"
"Ash" Ilima interrupted. He then turned towards Hau "And you must be Hau" He said.
"I saw your battle last night," Ilima said. "And I say, it was definitely one of the most exhilarating battles I've seen" He then closes his eyes and nodded to himself. "Yes, I believe the two of you are ready to take on my trial" He opened his eyes and looked at Ash and Hau. "How about tomorrow, at midday?" Ilima asked.
"That sounds good," Ash said.
"Yeah, plenty of time to prepare," Hau said.
"It's decided then. Your Trials shall be held at the sacred trial ground, Verdant Cavern, tomorrow, at midday. I shall see you there, Ash, Hau, Lillie" Ilima said before walking away.
Arevi turned towards them with an apologetic look. "Sorry about that" Arevi said. "My brother could be a tad too formal sometimes, especially when it comes to his duty as trial captains"
"No, it's fine," Ash said. "He was pretty cool"
"Yeah," Hau said.
"Being formal is not a bad thing" Lillie said.
Arevi grinned at them. "Well, it was nice meeting you. I guess I'll see you around"
"Yea," Ash said. The trio watched as Arevi went after Ilima.
"So," Hau said. "What now?"
Ash shrugged. "We get some rest and prepare for tomorrow's trial I guess"
"I could definitely use some rest," Lillie said.
"In that case see you tomorrow," Hau said.
"Yeah," Ash said. Hau then walked away while waving his hand at them.
Ash waved back before turning towards Lillie. "Shall we head back home?" Ash asked.
"Yes," Lillie said. "Yes we should"
In the Petalburg City Pokemon Center, a green-haired 10-year-old boy was sitting in front of a PC. This was, obviously, Max Maple. Max had been trying to find information on Ash for a week now. His method of choice by calling Ash's friends and family. The first person he called was obvious, Ash's mother. Delia had said that Ash had chosen to give up on being a pokemon trainer and that Max should take Pikachu. He didn't believe the obvious lie. If he knew Ash, which he thinks that he knew Ash pretty well, Ash would never give up on anything, much less his dream.
He didn't learn anything from Delia, so he decided to call Ash's friends in Kanto, which are Brock and Misty. They told him basically the same thing as Delia, except with the addition that they also got some of Ash's Pokemon. That made Max even more confused. The Ash he knew wouldn't just give away his Pokemons like that. He tried to call Professor Oak but apparently, he left on a research trip or something.
Since he didn't found anything from his friends in Kanto, so he decided to call Ash's from the other regions. He first tried to call Dawn in Sinnoh, but apparently, Dawn had left for Unova. He later found out that Dawn had left with Iris and Cilan cause Iris had decided to try and take on the league. The next logical step is to call Ash's friends from Kalos. The problem with this is that Max has never met any of Ash's Kalos friends. He didn't even know their name or how they look. It took Max quite a tiresome process of calling every single Pokemon Centre in Unova and asking for information but he finally found them.
"Hello?" Dawn said as her face appeared on the screen. Max could see Iris and Cilan standing behind her. "Oh, Max," She said clearly surprised. "How have you been? Weren't you going to challenge the Hoenn league? Or maybe you're asking for my help?" She smiled at him.
Max didn't return the older girl's smile. "I've been good," Max said. "And yeah, I'm participating in the Hoenn league but that's not why I'm here"
Max took a deep breath. "I called to ask about Ash," Max said. Dawn's demeanor instantly changed. She went from her usual cheerful self to almost emotionless in less than a second.
"What about Ash?" She asked in a flat tone.
Max explained the situation with May and Pikachu, and how Misty and the others reacted when he called them. Dawn listened in silence. When Max was done explaining, Dawn took a deep breath.
"Well, Max" Dawn said. "You want to know what happened to Ash?"
Max nodded.
"Alright," Dawn said. "I'll tell you what happened" She then proceeded to tell him Everything that happened at Pallet Town.
