A/N: Decided to post two chapters since I kept you waiting longer than I should've. This chapter was a lot of fun to write, there's some insight into Mikey's biology and things start to heat up for these two in more ways than one.
Chapter 5
About halfway through the week Mikey's phone buzzed while he was at Casey and April's for a visit. He'd told them all about Mira and his accident already.
He looked at the phone it read Heyy ;)
"Guys! Mira texted me just now!" he handed the phone to April and then she handed it to Casey.
The older man gave him a nod of approval and a thumbs-up. "Nice! She's definitely down to see you, tonight even." He said.
"Tonight?! You really think so?" Mikey asked almost giddy with excitement.
"Look man, she sent you 'hey' with two y's and a winky face. I may be getting older but I can recognize a hookup text when I see one." Casey said with a smug grin.
"Oh shut up." April rolled her eyes. "You said all you've done is kiss right? That other stuff is probably still a long ways off, I bet she just wants to see you that's all." April sensibly replied.
Casey gave him a wink and hissed. "She wants you…ow!" April socked him in the shoulder just then.
Mikey just looked more confused than ever. "So what do I say?!"
They both gave him different answers:
"Say hey back with three y's!" Casey said.
"No. Just say a regular 'hey' back and ask how she's doing." April advised.
Mikey looked between the two of them and decided April's answer was better. "Okay," he said.
Hey, what's up? He typed back.
Immediately she replied. Ntm…bored…what are you up to?
He answered now completely engrossed in this conversation. Just hanging out with a couple friends of mine
He'd been giving a play-by-play to Casey and April as he went. "Ask her if she wants to come over!" April said.
Casey shook his head. "No, ask if she wants you to go there! She probably wants to be alone with you." He waggled his eyebrows.
April couldn't argue with that so she said. "Do what feels right to you."
Her reply was, Sounds fun, maybe when you're done you could come to my place?
Mikey gasped. "Dude, she wants me to come over…"
"Then go! Tell her you can come right now." Casey grinned.
"Or…you could wait like twenty minutes so you don't appear desperate…" April sighed.
Mikey texted back Sure babe, I can come in 15 mins does that work?
She answered That works, come to the apartment 45B on the fire escape. It's the only window with red curtains.
"I told her I'd be there in fifteen, fair?" he asked. "Oh man, I'm nervous…I've never been to a girl's place before…"
"Did anyone give you the 'talk'?" April asked carefully.
Mikey rolled his eyes. "I know how it works April…but Raph gave me the consent talk if that's what you're wondering."
"Good, I was just checking. Anyway, just let her take the lead on things. If it feels right then go for it…but probably nothing's gonna happen yet." She said.
"Thanks April…and Casey." He said with a wry smile.
Casey gave him a thumbs-up. "You da man, Mikey!"
Mikey couldn't help but laugh. The last thing he heard when he was leaving was April scolding Casey and saying 'You give terrible advice, you know that?'
He quickly hopped up the fire escape and began roof jumping in her direction. He hoped he wouldn't be a nervous mess in front of her.
He found the particular window she had described and gently tapped on the glass. In a moment the curtains flew open and he was greeted by her smiling face. She's far too pretty for me…he thought but slipped through the window once she opened it.
He took a moment to appreciate her apartment. It was a small space, just enough room for a couch, a TV and a small kitchenette. The bedroom and attached bathroom were through a doorway near the small living room.
Still, despite the small space it was decorated with homey touches that made it feel very cozy. Also to his delight he noticed that all over the walls there were many photographs that she had taken. The game consoles and DVD collection were also a nice touch.
"I know…it's like living in a postage stamp." She said after a while of him looking around.
His attention snapped back to her and he quickly said. "It's a really nice place actually, cozy." He said gesturing to the three-seater couch that just barely fit.
She warmed then and slipped her arms around his neck and placed a soft kiss on his mouth. "Thanks…I just really wanted to see you tonight."
It felt so natural to hold her close and feel her body press against his. "You saved me…I was getting 'romance' advice from our two best friends…they're humans, Casey and April."
She looked very intrigued as she took his hand and led him over to the couch. "Oh...so I'm not the first human you've met."
He sank into her soft couch and shook his head. "Not the first to meet us…but the first to kiss me." He said with an embarrassed chuckle.
She kissed him once more and then again for good measure. "I'm okay with that." She said. "But…you're not the first guy I've kissed…"
"Makes sense, you're a bomb babe, of course there'd be other guys before me." He grinned.
She laughed. "Only a few, one guy I dated in high school and then another that lasted a couple years until I broke it off and then I've dated here and there." She paused, her nerves showing through. "Is that alright with you?"
He was nonplussed. "Why wouldn't it be? Your past is your past, the only thing that matters is here and now."
"That's a really cool way of looking at it, thank you." She said with a grateful smile.
"No problem, babe." Now he was nervous as he asked "Did…you have something in mind for tonight?"
She was going to have to remind herself to take it slow with him. This wasn't going to be like every other guy she dated a couple times and then took home. Also she didn't know if he was into that. She needed to do more research.
"I'll put a movie in." she said and got off the couch to choose one. It was a classic action shoot-em-up type where the hero wins and gets the girl before sharing a long deep kiss with her and then the credits roll.
They were about halfway through the movie when she decided to make her move. He'd already had his arm around her so she had perfect access to his chest. Slowly she began running her fingers along the ridges and lines along his torso so see what his reaction would be.
At first he seemed unaffected so she rubbed a little harder and moved her hand lower so it rested right where his belly button would be.
Immediately his hand covered hers and he turned to look into her eyes and then to her lips.
Her small pink tongue darted out to give her lips a lick and then his mouth was on hers.
The kiss was different this time. She was hungrier and more desperate. The hand on his belly rubbed up to his chest to wind around his neck.
Her tongue gained access to his mouth and tangled around with his. She felt him shiver. So he definitely has similar reactions like other guys but she wondered how far she could go with it.
She broke the kiss and boldly changed her position so she was sitting on his lap facing him. She grabbed his face and resumed their make-out session.
His large hands were now running up and down her back.
Mmmm she said against his lips. "That feels good…"
One hand went very low and she could tell where he wanted to go. She reached behind her and placed it on her backside where he did an experimental squeeze. A delicious rush formed in her stomach and she ground on his pelvis.
That got his attention; he quickly pulled away and fixed his gaze on her. He was breathing heavily and unsure of what to do next. "I…this is all new to me…I don't know what I'm supposed to do."
He looked so adorably awkward that she felt a deep affection for him forming. "We don't have to do anything big tonight, we can just be like this." She had settled fully on his lap now, most guys would've been hard but she still felt nothing from him down below. She wondered how it all worked.
He seemed to calm down a bit. "I hate the fact I'm so inexperienced with this."
"Just do whatever feels comfortable." She bit her lip before asking. "Does this feel good for you? I usually can tell when a guy is getting 'excited' but with you I don't."
He was so embarrassed he could crawl into his shell. No, man up. "I uh…you won't unless it…comes out and it's not going to until right before I need it. But yeah it feels really good for me. The reason I stopped is because I didn't want to scare you."
She nodded in understanding. "Because it looks different?" she asked.
"A little, yeah, for one thing it's green." He was so nonchalant about it she couldn't help but explode into giggles.
Pretty soon they were both laughing hysterically and the mood from earlier had dissipated. She crawled off of his lap and wiped her eyes. "I guess that's something I'll have to get used to." She grinned.
Get…used to which means…"You mean you still want to…do that with me?" he asked.
"Well yeah, I do find you attractive, I would be honored to be your first Mikey." She went to take his hand.
He pulled her closer to him and gathered her up into his arms again. "You're the best, you know that?"
She giggled again and cuddled in his arms. "We'll take things slow okay?"
"That sounds awesome babe." He placed a soft kiss on her forehead and the two of them resumed cuddling for the rest of the movie.
Mira's change in mood had prompted her mother and grandmother to ask her about it in their weekly cooking lesson.
"You seem to be much happier love, did you manage to work things out with your friend?" she asked while they mixed homemade pasta dough.
"Yeah! You were right, it was a family thing and he apologized." Mira said as she kneaded the dough.
"Excellent, I am glad you worked things out. So when do we get to meet this fine young man?" Her mother asked.
Mira froze. "Uh…I want to date him a little longer…? He's um, shy and I don't want to overwhelm him with how loud our family can be." She said hoping that would be enough to get them off her back for now.
"I see, I see, that sounds bene, I am so happy you have finally found a nice boy!" Her mama exclaimed, clapping her hands and making a small cloud of dust from the flour.
You don't know the half of it…"Thanks, mama, me as well." She smiled.
Her grandmother just sat quietly helping to make the pasta dough with a mischievous gleam in her eyes as she worked.
Mira just nervously kept working hoping there would be no further questions. She was freaking out a tiny bit. She knew she was entering into something big with Mikey but try as she might she knew she wouldn't be able to hide it from her family for long. Even though she had her own place it was only a matter of time before her mom burst in and caught them doing God-knows-what.
She'll just keep things on the down-low for now. Late night, roof-top meetings and no sleepovers yet. It couldn't be that hard…could it?
Whack "Michelangelo, pay attention!" Master Splinter had been growing more and more impatient with his son's attention-deficit behaviour.
"Ow!" Mikey rubbed the spot on the back of his head. "Sorry Sensei."
Leo eyed him suspiciously. "Seriously Mikey, where's your head at?" He flipped his swords and prepared another stance.
"I got a few guesses…" Raph smirked.
Mikey was about to open his mouth to protest that Raph knew exactly what he was going through when he remembered his promise. "Shut up, man." He flicked his nun-chucks and prepared to spar with Leo.
He didn't last long before Leo disarmed him and flipped him over on his back. He went down hard getting the wind knocked out of him. "Damn…"
Leo offered his hand to help him get up. "Mikey…we get it you're preoccupied with your new…friend but practice is still practice."
Mikey took the offered hand and picked himself up off the floor. "I know Leo, you know me though, my brain can only handle so much at once."
Leo sighed. "I know Mikey, just…try to focus okay?"
"Okay Leo." He tried again and took some deep breaths to clear his mind. It was a technique he'd been practicing since he'd become aware that his brain worked differently than his brothers and that he did actually need to clear his mind to help him focus better.
This time he was able to use one of his chucks to pull one of Leo's katanas right out of his hand and with a few quick moves he managed to win the sparring match.
Leo nodded approvingly. "Better."
He grinned. "Thanks bro!" He couldn't help but throw his fists in the air. "I'm the greatest ninja ever! Battle Nexus champion in da house!" whack "Ow!"
It was Tuesday again but Mira was late getting up to the rooftop. She'd been doing some work at the restaurant and had been taxed with taking the trash and recycling out to the alley.
That same old man was there rooting around in the trash for something. She just avoided him and went about her work. She suddenly heard him making noises and gasped when she turned around.
A Man with a dragon tattoo suddenly shoved the old man into the trash bags he'd been looking through and began advancing on Mira. She had recognized him from the restaurant; he'd tried hitting on her and she'd turned him down. She began backing up to the far part of the alley.
"Sir…can I help you?" she asked carefully.
"Yeah…you can point me in the direction of that fine ass." The man leered.
She froze. "I don't think that's on the menu." She deadpanned.
"Sure it is and ain't the customer always right…?" He suddenly lashed out and grabbed her arm.
Mira's self-defense training kicked in and she twisted her arms so that she forced him down on his knees with his arm at an odd angle. "Leave me alone." She said in a low voice.
The man was shocked for a moment and laughed. "You've got some spirit…I like that in a girl."
She stomped on his foot then as hard as she could. "I mean it!"
"Ow, you stupid bitch!" he was struggling to get free when she suddenly disengaged and tried to run.
He managed to grab her hair causing her to cry out in pain. Her first instinct was to try and pull away but she remembered what to do.
She brought her arm quickly up and swung it over his arm to break the hold he had on her hair. The move was so quick she had him on his knees again.
Now he was at her mercy and she was able to deliver a swift punch to his face. "Leave. Now." She released him and tried to leave again.
He was recovering and then suddenly grabbed a gun pointing at her. "That's it bitch, I'll just have to kill you first, don't make a difference to me…"
Her breath hitched and she automatically put her hands up. "Stop…please you don't want to do this…"
He was already pulled the hammer back when suddenly something swooped down and hit him so fast she could barely make it out.
The man was slammed against the wall and a very angry Michelangelo was now advancing on him using those nun-chucks he always had tucked into his belt.
"What's with the costume, you freak, going to protect this whore over here?" he jeered.
Mira looked on in wonder as she finally got to see him in action. He expertly wielded his nun-chucks in a way that she knew he'd been training his whole life with them. They looked absolutely deadly in his grasp. He was definitely a ninja; he ducked, dodged and managed to knock the gun out of his grasp. Mira quickly ran and grabbed it. She didn't use guns as a rule but she knew how to fire one.
She held it up at him just in case.
A few quick whacks later and Mikey managed to knock him out causing him to sag down from the wall to the ground.
She must have still been stunned because she felt him gently lower her hands still clutching the gun. She gasped and dropped it.
"Mira…are you alright?" Mikey asked, gently grabbing her shoulders.
"I'm alright, he didn't hurt me." She said and clutched his forearms.
"I know, I could see you when you brought him down and punched him in the face, that was bad-ass babe!" he exclaimed and then gathered her into his arms. "I'm glad you're okay, that was a very dangerous man."
She hugged him back tightly. "Who was he?" she asked.
He pulled back and glared at the unconscious man. "A member of the purple dragons…they're a highly organized crime syndicate. We've been dealing with them for years." His expression was one of regret. "Now it could be nothing but it's possible you could've made an enemy here…I'm so sorry Mira…" He said caressing her face. "I'm gonna need to get my brother Donnie up here so he can set you up with some surveillance equipment."
"Is my family safe?" She gasped out.
"Yes, I doubt they would target your family." Mikey promised her. "It's not worth their time to go after more than just you.
Things started happening quickly after that. Mikey phoned Donatello and about fifteen minutes later all three of his brothers showed up.
"Purple dragon scum…" Raph sneered at the unconscious body.
Donnie had brought along a bag full of gadgets that he would use to set up around the restaurant and her apartment as well as her parent's just in case.
"I'll need your phone too." He said and once given it, got to work adding a GPS tracker to it.
"What is that for?" she asked nervously as he worked.
Without looking up he answered. "Worst case scenario if you do go missing, we'll be able to find you." He explained. "Also with the cameras I can track any and all movement around your apartment.
She bit her lip. "What about in my apartment?"
This time he did glance up. "I can if you want me to but I likely don't need it."
She released a breath and saw that he was holding up a small white button. She took it and asked. "What's this?"
"It's a panic button, if you press it we'll all know you're in danger and we'll come right away." He said and went back to work on her phone. "There." He clicked the phone shut and handed it back to her. "That should do it."
She smiled gratefully. "Thanks Donnie and everyone for coming."
Raph growled. "I don't know why we're bothering with all this crap. We should just bring the fight to them…" he said cracking his knuckles menacingly.
Leonardo was thinking. "There's no point rushing in there, they might not even bother to go after Mira."
"We could always cripple their defenses, it'll take them a while to re-group." Donnie suggested.
Leo nodded. "Only if we need to." He turned to Mira. "I am sorry you've gotten caught up with this, it's not your problem but ours."
Mikey stepped forward. "It's my fault Leo, I probably led them back here or something." He'd been silent this whole time, the guilt steadily growing.
Leo placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's not your fault Mikey, she was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Also you're allowed to want to live normally sometimes." He said.
He brightened a little bit. "Leo you should see Mira's moves, she took down that dragon and managed to punch him in the face!" he exclaimed.
She blushed. "I take self-defense classes."
"I can show you some moves too if you like." Leo offered.
"It would be nice to know what to do if someone's pointing a gun at me again." Mira said.
Leo nodded. "I can do that." He turned to Mikey. "Mikey can bring you down on the next night you're off." He said.
Now she was just confused. "Down…? Down where?"
Mikey face-palmed. "I knew there was something I was forgetting…we actually live underground, babe." He said.
Right…it made sense where else were four humanoid turtles going to hide in such a densely populated area. "That's why they climbed out of the sewer lid…"
"Yeah…you're not claustrophobic are you?" Donnie asked.
She shook her head.
"Good." He quipped.
For the next hour Donnie was setting up surveillance. Raph had bound the hands of the man and dragged him to the police station and left him there. Leo stayed by to keep watch.
Mikey was feeling the guilt slowly dissipate but not completely. Why couldn't things just go smoothly for him? For once? He vowed then and there to protect Mira and her family no matter what. His memories had almost fully returned and he was pretty sure he had fallen for her the moment she'd seen him for who he really was.
End Chapter 5
A/N I wanted this character not to be a damsel in distress so I did some research on self-defense techniques for writing out that scene, I like how it turned out.
