Chapter 11
The move back to Mira's was a quiet affair. It was done at night to be more inconspicuous. She went through the building to unlock her door and let Mikey in through the window. Then when he was settled, she went down a couple floors to see her parents and grandmother.
Immediately after she opened the door she was practically suffocated by hugs. Her worried parents both hugged her tightly and her grandmother waited patiently for them to be finished.
"Hey mama and papa…Nonna…I missed you all." She said.
Her mother had tears in her eyes. "We were so worried mija. When you told us Mark had captured you I feared the worst."
"We are glad you are okay." Her father added. "Where have you been staying all of this time?"
"I was staying with some friends." She answered evasively, guilt evident on her face. "I was scared to come back home, I am so sorry." She said.
"Friends and a special one too." Her grandmother added.
"Right, your boyfriend. You said something…he looks different?" her mother asked.
"Yes mama…he is not like other people." Mira said. "I will show you a picture. Please don't scream."
Her parents looked very confused and Mira kept talking as she pulled a photo out of her wallet. "Remember a few years ago when that swirling green cloud was above the city? It wasn't a freak weather pattern. There were four heroes that were risking their lives that day to save us. A couple of months ago one came into the restaurant in disguise looking for pizza. We met and became friends, then those feelings developed into something more." She handed them the photo. "This is him, his name is Mikey."
Her parents were silent as they looked at the picture, it was Mikey doing his signature smile with his blue eyes sparkling.
After a while her mother said. "He is…green?"
Her father looked like he was becoming angry. "Is he a monster?"
"No papa, he is a turtle, they are humanoid like us they just look different." Mira explained.
"He is not human though, look at him." Her mother added.
"How can you be in a relationship?" her father asked.
Her mother turned to her father. "We don't know him yet, it is probably just a birth defect."
"That is not a 'birth defect' he is an alien, our daughter is dating an alien!" he exploded.
"We need to be understanding! Clearly she feels sorry for him!" the mother yelled back.
The two of them began arguing in rapid Italian and poor Mira was helpless to stop them.
Her old grandmother suddenly tapped her arm. "May I see the photo?" she asked.
"Sure Nonna…I don't think this could get much worse so take a look…" she handed her the photo.
She studied the picture. "He has nice eyes, and he looks very happy. Is he good to you?" she asked.
"Yes, he is the kindest, most caring person I've ever met. He treats me very well and…I love him." Mira truthfully answered.
By now her mother had shhhed the father loudly and they were both listening in to the conversation.
"And does he love you?" she asked.
She nodded. "He loves me very much, he's staying with me for a while until I feel safe again."
Her grandmother looked at the picture again. "If that is all true then he has a good heart and that is all that matters."
Her parents were speechless and Mira threw her arms around her grandmother. "Thank you Nonna…"
"You are very welcome, my love, I would like to meet him so bring him around anytime." She said.
Mira turned back to her mother and father. "I know this is a shock…but everything I said is true and if it wasn't for his family and friends, I never would have been found, Mark would still have me…"
Her mother's expression softened. "Oh my dear…I apologize, the most important thing is that you are happy. You bring that nice young man on down and we will feed him, yes papa?" she turned to her husband.
"Of course, what is his favourite food?" he asked.
Mira chuckled. "Pizza, but can we do it tomorrow? We're both pretty tired tonight."
"Of course my dear." Her mother said and both of her parents kissed each of her cheeks and she kissed her grandmother's cheek.
After her parents had gone to a different part of the apartment. Mira quietly asked. "Nonna…why were you so accepting of him?"
Her grandmother gave her a sly grin. "I saw the two of you one time on the roof together. You didn't notice me, you were too busy laughing and talking with him. You looked so happy together. I knew one day you'd have to tell us about him so I just waited until you were ready."
Mira was shocked for a moment but her grandmother had always been like this…very sneaky and could keep a secret like no other.
"Thank you again Nonna…" Mira said quietly.
Soon she had said goodbye and was happy to go on back to her own apartment. Mikey had somehow acquired a chef's hat and apron and was puttering around in the kitchen cooking something.
She laughed upon seeing him. "What are you doing?"
"What's it look like? I'm cooking a bomb-ass meal for my girlfriend." He grinned and sauté'd some vegetables.
"But…but where did you get the food?" she spluttered.
Mikey gave her a pointed look. "You know they have grocery delivery right?"
She playfully punched his arm. "Don't be such a know-it-all…"
He smirked and said. "Oh how'd it go with your parents?"
"Uh…at first not good, my mom thought you had a birth defect and my dad thought you were an alien…" He looked worried so she quickly added. "BUT, it was my Nona to the rescue…you know she saw us on the rooftop that one time? She never said anything; she's sneaky like that. Anyway based on that, she accepted you and helped my parents come around."
He let out a breath and said. "That's awesome babe, so they'll meet me?" he asked.
"Yes, and my dad is going to make you pizza." She grinned.
He stopped cooking for a moment and hugged her. "That is gonna be rad, babe. I can't wait."
A little while later they were cuddled in each other's arms after finishing Mikey's delicious meal. Mira had to admit he was a pretty decent cook; he might be able to teach her a thing or two.
The next night he was nervously gearing himself up for this dinner with her parents.
"Would 'just be yourself' be too cliché at this point?" Mira asked as she fixed a couple of sparkly earrings to her ears.
"Probably…" He was scrutinizing himself in the mirror. "Should I leave the gear off? I know it's stupid but I feel naked without it…maybe I should wear my street clothes." He was anxiously picking them up and putting them down again.
"Mikey, honey." She said grabbing his face with her hands. "They've already seen what you look like. Just wear all your normal stuff."
She then thought for a moment. "On second thought…maybe street clothes so we can get through the building without being noticed."
"Good idea…" she handed him his large orange hoodie and he pulled it on. "Should I leave my mask on?" he asked.
She kissed his cheek. "It's like your badge of honour so yes." He smiled feeling a lot better about the whole situation.
Soon they were on their way, her parents were only a couple of floors down so it was a quick jog.
Mira unlocked the door and said. "Mama, papa, we're here."
Mikey hesitantly poked his head through the door. "Good evening Mr. and Mrs. De Rossi…I'm Michelangelo"
Her mother's face suddenly split into a huge grin. "Mirella! You did not tell us he had an Italian name!" she bustled over to Mikey and took his hand. "Lovely to meet you Michelangelo. I am Maria."
"I…forgot?" Mira said stifling a laugh as her mother dragged poor Mikey over to her husband and the grandmother.
"This is my husband Marco and his mother, she is Mirella as well." He offered his hand to both and they took it, the grandmother covered his green, scaly hand with hers and said. "I am glad to meet you. You are good for my granddaughter, I can see that."
"Thank you…" he said, feeling warmed at her kind words.
Maria busied herself in the kitchen then. "Do you like Italian ice?" she asked Mikey.
"Sure do." He grinned.
"Wonderful, I make you some." She mixed him the drink and poured the flavouring on top. Mira sat beside him on the couch with her own cup.
Her father came to it by them. "So…Mira tells me you have a job?" he asked.
"Yes, I do birthday parties for kids or I'll organize events like costume parties." He said with a smile. "Kinda helps that I look like I'm always in a costume."
"That is good, and what about your family?"
"There's my three brothers, Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello and our father, Splinter." He said.
Maria made a happy noise from the kitchen. "More Italian names!"
"Yeah, our father named all of us after Italian Renaissance masters." Mikey explained.
The father nodded in approval. "All fine names, Mira also tells us you rescued her from being mugged?" he asked.
Mikey shot a questioning look at Mira who mouthed the words 'purple dragon' and he understood. "Oh yeah, I caught him trying to steal from her but not before she got in a few good punches." He winked. "Your daughter is very strong can take care of herself, she barely needed me."
Her father looked so proud at that moment. "That is our girl, ever since she could walk she's been fearless."
Mira looked mildly embarrassed. "Thanks papa…"
Dinner was a fun, heartwarming affair. Mikey's excited reaction to the home-made pizza was enough to make everyone laugh. The food was delicious and the drinks kept coming until everyone had finally had enough.
Soon it was time to have them take their leave. "I had a great time, Mr. and Mrs. De Rossi." Mikey said, giving them a sincere smile and warm handshake.
"Wonderful to meet you, you must come back soon." Maria said and did a something that shocked all of them and kissed both of his scaly cheeks.
He placed his hand on his face in awe. "Thank you…"
After many other cheek kisses Mira and Mikey were finally on their way back to the upper apartment.
"That couldn't have gone better." Mira sighed happily. "They really liked you."
"I have that effect on people, I'm the cute one remember?" he said with a smug grin.
She lightly punched his arm. "You…" she opened the door to her apartment and the two of them stepped in.
Mikey immediately went to remove his clothes. "Ah…that was too much heat for me." He said, sighing in relief when the cool air of the apartment hit his exposed skin.
Mira suddenly pushed him onto the couch and crawled on his lap, straddling his waist. She pulled off her top and kept on the light camisole underneath.
She placed a few kisses on his collarbone and his neck. He shivered a little and his hands moved to clutch her hips. "Thank you for tonight." She breathed.
"You're welcome…" he answered, moving his hands to rub across her thighs, and slipping them under her shirt to explore the smooth expanse of her back. He thought back to the time she'd first done this and how awkward and nervous he'd been. He was about to show her just how much better he'd gotten when an onslaught of memories suddenly flooded into his brain.
Mira could see that something had happened when his hands immediately stilled. "What's wrong? Mikey…?"
"I…remember, I remember everything now." He said with a gasp. "I remember coming into the restaurant and ordering the pizza and that was the first time I saw you and you heard me telling Leo over the phone that I ordered from 'the cute pizza girl,' I remember!" he said suddenly crushing her body to his.
The breath was nearly squeezed out of her in that hug but she was so happy for him she didn't care. "Finally!" she gasped out.
He released his hold on her. "Sorry babe, it just feels so good to finally not have those gaps in my memory."
She kissed him deeply. "It's okay, you take my breath away, just like the first time I saw you." She winked.
"That…is the corniest thing I've ever heard." He joked and then found himself laughing. "Take my breath away…" he sang in a high-pitched tone.
She snorted and began laughing as well. "Seems you're rubbing off on me."
Since they were laughing way too hard, the idea of sex was forgotten and she slipped off of his lap and cuddled up beside him. "Mikey?" she asked.
"Yeah, babe?"
"Do you think your brothers will find something like what we have?" she liked the idea of all four of them with some kind of significant others.
Mikey thought for a moment. "Yeah definitely, Leo's just gotta remove the stick up his ass first, Raph maybe needs to make amends with his old girlfriend or meet someone new…and Donnie well…he's pretty smart but completely clueless when it comes to girls. Heck sometimes I think the only way for him to get a girlfriend is to make one." He said with a laugh.
She giggled and lightly hit his arm. "That's mean. I'm sure there's a nice girl out there for Donnie. A smart, geeky girl that's just right for him."
"Sorry." He chuckled. "You're right, I'd be happy to see any of my brothers find love, especially Donnie."
"Me too, it's moments like these that make it all worthwhile." She said with a happy sigh.
"Even me getting beaten to a pulp?"
She rolled her eyes. "Yes Mikey, even my crazy aunt bugging us when we're gonna have kids one day. You're lucky you didn't meet her tonight."
Mikey was silent for a long moment. "I always thought I'd be a fun dad." He finally said. "Not sure kids is even on the table for us though."
"Well not yet it isn't, and maybe not in the traditional way but kids are definitely a possibility someday." She said.
"You really think so?" he asked, his eyes shining in excitement.
She felt herself melt in those eyes. "Yes, just don't let yourself get beat up that badly again."
"I can't guarantee I wont but I will try my best not to...that sucked so much." He said and kissed her forehead. "Love you babe."
"I love you too." She said sealing her words with a kiss.
The End.
