Summary: Kid and Black Star go out on a quest for a legendary pokemon while Maka finds a super rare, mysterious pokemon of her own... if it even is a pokemon...
Kid stood in front of a grave labeled Gyarados, just staring at it. Both Maka and Black Star were standing behind him in silence, despite Black Stars growing impatience. Eventually, Maka cleared her throat to get Kid's attention.
He readjusted his backpack. "Right," he said and started walking away, "we should get going."
"Finally," Black Star mumbled, earning him a book to the head. "Ow, what was that for? He barely remembered to go to its grave. I doubt it was his best pokemon or anything."
Maka glared at him, then turned her attention onto Kid. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you know the gyarados? And how did it… you know…"
"I found it in the shrines. Team Salem was doing experiments on it, and we couldn't do anything to help it. That's how it ended up here. There was something strange about it-" Kid was quiet for a second in thought, "but it was nothing."
The second they made it to Expiry City, Black Star immediately headed straight for the gym, his companions close behind. Yes, he got lost, but he found it soon enough. Confidence oozed from the young assassin as he pushed the doors to the gym. They didn't open. "Huh?"
"Maybe it's pull," Maka suggested.
He pulled the doors and still nothing happened. Black Star was visibly annoyed by this. "What's wrong with this thing?"
"It's probably locked," Kid said.
The assassin narrowed his eyes. "I didn't come all of this way to get stopped by a locked door. Dynamic punch!" His fist collided with the glass doors, shattering them.
Kid screamed at the sight. Broken glass littered the floor, and so much of it. Unlike the window in Loss Town, the whole door didn't fall out of the frame. Broken and cracked shards of glass jetted out of the frames. "STOP DOING THAT!" Kid hissed.
"Jeez, calm down. I got us a way in, didn't I?"
Kid made incomprehensible noises of complaint in response.
Maka kicked some glass out of the way and walked closer to Black Star. "Kid's right, stop it. It doesn't even look like the gym leader is here, you broke the gym, and dynamic punch only has a 50% hit chance. You're pushing your luck with it, and it's not even a battle. Besides, it makes Kid cry."
Black Star looked to Kid, who was on the ground sobbing. "I think there might be more issues behind that than me…"
An Officer Jenny skidded around the corner at astounding speeds on her motorcycle. It slid into a parking spot perfectly and she jumped off. "Who screamed? What's wrong?"
"He destroyed it!" Kid tattled through his tears, pointing to Black Star.
The assassin crossed his arms. "I thought we were friends," he mumbled.
Officer Jenny looked over the scene and a fiery passion was ignited within her. She started telling Black Star off for how reckless what he did was and how dangerous. It was confirmed that, yes, the gym leader wasn't even in the gym and wouldn't be for a couple more days. After what seemed like hours of being lectured, Officer Jenny held out her hand, palm up, to Black Star. "Hand over your trainer tokens."
"What! No way! Didn't I just save your town, like, yesterday? Can't I just get a slap on the wrist?"
Maka glared at him. "Don't argue with the police! And that was a different Jenny."
"And this is a slap on the wrist young man. You destroyed government property, made a hazard to the public, and" she pointed to Kid, "traumatized this poor child. I could put you in jail. You're lucky to be getting off with just losing your tokens and having to do community service."
With a sigh of defeat, Black Star reluctantly handed over all two of his tokens. "And what's this community service I have to do?"
"Well," the officer said, "Cleaning up glass is too dangerous for kids so for you…"
"What! No way! I'm not putting away all of these books!" Black Star protested. Mountains of unorganized books were scattered all throughout the library. "Are you at least going to help!?"
"It's either this or jail, and I have to go clean up your mess in front of the gym."
Black Star groaned as Officer Jenny left. "Well, you love books. Are you going to help me?" he asked Maka.
She laughed. "No. You need to learn a lesson." She tapped her two pokeballs. "Besides, I'm going to go train. When Kid gets off the phone with Lord Death and calms down, he might help. But I recommend you get started sooner than later." Maka left too, leaving Black Star alone in the library.
It was hardly a minute before he got distracted and stopped sorting the books. For nearly an hour, practically nothing got done.
He was too distracted by the manga he was reading to see Kid walk in. The grim reaper watched his companion flip through the pages way too fast to be reading them; he was probably just looking at the pictures. "Are you putting those books away?" Kid asked.
Black Star threw his book across the room. "Of course I am. Why? You wanna do a star's job with the one and only me?"
"No. I came here to learn more about a legendary pokemon I've heard rumors about. If I log that into my pokedex," he smiled, "Father would be ecstatic! So ecstatic, in fact, he'd forget all about what happened earlier! And if I catch it," Kid looked lost in a daydream as he continued. "I could be the hardest gym leader with one pokemon alone! It'll have such an intricate, yet symmetrical design. Oh, symmetry~"
"Legendary pokemon? Those are the super rare and strong ones, right?" Kid nodded. "Woah! What do you know about it already?"
"Well," Kid started, "it's name is excalisaber, but it is also called the holy pokemon. They say that whoever captures it will be deemed a hero and shall receive everlasting glory and fame!"
Black Star was fully invested. "Fame! Glory! Where is it?"
"That's what I need the book for. Apparently, this legendary is so smart, it was able to write an auto-biography that is somewhere within this library."
"So," a sudden new voice said. It made both trainers jump. "You're trying to find the Excalisaber, huh?"
The both looked over to see professor Stein. Neither were really pleased with the company. "What are you doing here?" Black Star asked. "Did you break the law too?"
"What?"
"Black Star does have a point: why did you leave Mortality City, professor?"
His eyes were covered by his shining glasses. "Mewthree sensed something here. Something wrong."
"Is it about us?" Kid asked.
"No, I think this is just a coincidence."
Black Star laughed. "Well then, if it's not about me why should we care? Come on Kid, let's go catch a legendary!"
Black Star jumped to his feet and started strutting out. Rolling his eyes, Kid didn't follow right away. "What about your community service?"
Black Star grabbed a pokeball from his belt. "Don't worry, I've got it covered!"
"And one final faint attack!" Maka commanded. Soul did, fainting the wurmple in front of him. His experience hardly had a dent in it from the new win.
"Sol," Soul complained.
"I know it's slow Soul. Training isn't just a snap and done sort of thing."
"Sol sol."
"I don't know what you're saying."
Soul stared at his trainer, while she stared back. "Here, I have an idea. How about I use my meister eyes to find a whole bunch of pokemon so this could go faster."
"Sol."
Guessing that meant something along the lines of 'cool,' Maka closed her eyes. Reopening them, she looked around.
She tilted her head in confusion at what she saw. A whole cluster of pokemon were in the distance, but one by one their HPs were dropping. "There's something going on over there," Maka said. "A trainer and their pokemon are doing something... wrong… Come on Soul, let's go."
"Eternal cave" Kid read. He looked up to the cliff side. A huge waterfall ran down from it, so a pokemon who knows waterfall could easily get up there, but not much else. "This is the place."
Black Star was beside him, squinting his eyes, trying to see the cave far above them. "How are we supposed to get all the way up there?"
Kid pulled his skateboard out of his backpack. "Before you ask, there isn't room for two people on here."
"Then how am I-"
Kid shrugged, jumping onto his floating device. "You should have stayed in the library."
Air from the board blew in Black Star's face as Kid dashed up. He closed his eyes from the wind, then opened them, revealing their boundless determination. "I'll show you who should have stayed in the library!" he yelled. Like a ground type, he clung to the cliff and started scaling in with record speeds, making it to the top in seconds. He splashed into the water and looked around. Kid was nowhere to be seen. "Hey, where'd you go?"
"I can't just go down there," Kid said. Black Star turned to his voice to see him hugging a rock, hanging upside over the water. "My pants would get wet, and disgusting, and -" he shivered at the thought.
"Why don't you just use your fancy-schmancy skateboard again?"
"Because, Beelzebub's air splashes the water up. I need you to carry me."
Black Star rolled his eyes. "Yeah right. It's just water. Seriously, what's wrong with you?"
He hugged the rock tighter. "N-nothing is. I-i-i just l-like," he said, his voice breaking.
Hearing his friend on the verge of tears did make Black Star realise what he said might have been a little mean. "Fine," he sighed, "I'll carry you…"
And he did carry him. From his backpack Kid pulled an umbrella to stop the water from above dripping on them. Random fairy-like pokemon were in the cave and occasionally encountered, but never really battled. Instead, Kid was excitedly getting their DNA and writing about them in his pokedex while Black Star couldn't do anything but just stand there.
"Cutiefly and Robombie! Those are Alolan specific pokemon with Kalos's exclusive fairy typing, but they're native to Jotia too? How interesting!" Kid told Black Star as he was typing.
"Yeah, yeah, it's amazing. Shouldn't we just get to the legendary?"
"In a second, I need to get the description absolutely perfect."
It took a long time, even though it was just two pokemon he had to register, but they eventually made it to an island of stone with a sword in the middle. Kid got off of Black Star's back and observed the sword.
"Is that it?" Black Star asked.
"No, that's just an item. The book said only the trainer that can pull it from the stone is worthy of the legendary sword pokemon, and only then will it come forth."
"So we just take it out of the rock?" Black Star walked up to the sword and lifted it with ease. "Like this?"
Kid's jaw dropped. "No way! How are you worthy?! I'm a grim reaper, I'm supposed to catch it!"
Black Star laughed. "You're just upset that you can't be as great as me huh? Happens to everybody, there's no need to feel bad!"
"Put the sword back. I'll take it from the stone the right way," Kid said.
"Whatever. Just don't cry if you can't pull it out like I did."
The assassin put the sword back. Kid stood over it, about to grab the handle. At the last second, he grabbed a wipe from his bag and disinfected it. "We don't have all day," Black Star complained.
"Yes, I know." Kid grabbed the handle like Black Star did. With the flick of his wrist, it came out equally as easily. "Oh… I did it…"
"No way! That's only because I loosened it!"
Suddenly came a voice. It was elegant sounding, and surrounded them both. 'No need to fight young ones,' it said. The sword Kid was holding disappeared in a burst of light. 'For you are both worthy of me,' a glowing silhouette appeared in front of them. 'The legendary pokemon Excalisaber!' The silhouette gained form, and the legend was revealed.
It had a tiny, pale pink, human-like body and seemed to be wearing frilly white clothing. It's pale pink head was shaped slightly like half of a yin-yang sign, with an upturned nose. It's eyes were big, circular, and dead looking. From its head, almost looking like a hat, was a white hilt of a sword, and from that a long metal blade. In its hand was a cane.
All in all, it looked pretty lame.
"Seriously? This is what I came all the way out here for? Something that looks like that?" Black Star complained. Kid was giggling beside him at the sight.
'That's no way to talk to a legend. especially when looking like that,' it said with it's telepathy.
Kid was taking pictures of it with his pokedex. "Telepathy, right? Are you a psychic type then?"
'Fool!' it exclaimed. It flicked it's cane over and tapped the black pokedex. Apparently that worked as a DNA sample because the dex learned about it immediately. It was a Steel Fairy type, with an ability that made fire and ground types ineffective. Most impressive were it's enormous stats. Base 200 across the board, making it have the highest ever recorded base stat total of 1,200! Anybody with this pokemon would easily destroy any opponents. 'I am no psychic type! My legend dates back to the 12th century!'
"What are you then?" Black Star asked.
It pointed its cane at Black Star, but otherwise ignored him. 'I see that you're trainers. Where are you from?' The assassin pushed the cane away.
"We're from Death Ci-" Kid started
'I knew that,' it interrupted. 'Follow me.' it started walking very slowly away.
"Then why'd you ask?" Black Star asked.
It put its cane back up to Black Star. 'Do you want to hear my legend? It dates back to the 12th century!'
The cane was pushed away again, Black Star even more annoyed. "Get that out of my face."
Excalisaber didn't listen and put it back. 'Where have you traveled from?'
"Like Kid said, it's Dea-"
'What is your favorite pure normal type pokemon?' it asked.
Black Star pushed the cane again. "Eevee, cause they're awesome."
"If I had to choose, I would say Linoone is my favorite. It has symmetrical fur and is very useful for getting around."
'Fools! Who are you to choose a favorite pokemon! My legend dates back to the 12th century!'
"You asked us to choose!" Black Star hissed.
"You really want to tell us your legend, don't you…" Kid said.
'Fine, I will tell you my legend if you insist, but stop asking.' Excalisaber started his tale.
Spirit was walking around, talking to himself in a tone mocking Lord Death. "Spirit, why don't you travel all the way to Expiry City? Kid seemed really upset about the broken glass. He must be having a bad day." He groaned, returning to his normal voice. "He's twelve. He should be able to handle a little broken glass. I only agreed so I could get to see Maka." Hearts replaced his eyes. "And so Officer Jenny and I could get to know each other better~"
He danced around to corner to where he knew the gym would be "Oh Jenny~" He purred, "I heard that you might need some help~"
"Oh, hey Spirit."
That voice made every inch of Spirit's being spike with dread. Opening his previously awestruck eyes, his nightmare was practically manifested before him. "Franken Stein!" he screeched in horror. "What are you doing here? You don't live in this town now, do you?"
"Nope. Just visiting," He said. "It's actually good I ran into you here."
"Why? So you could cut me up again? Well, tough luck 'cause all of the 'midnight surgery scars' that you gave me are finally healed, and I won't let you make any more!"
Stein's eyes were completely covered by the shines of his glasses. "Spirit, the demon pokemon is back."
That made Spirit fall silent.
Maka and Soul ran up to an old, deserted building. It seemed to be a church for a legendary pokemon, but the statues were too broken to recognize. Moss and cobwebs were littered through the place's appearance.
The whole time she was approaching it, the pokemon kept falling. And high leveled pokemon too. But something was off; they didn't seem to just be fainting. The only thing left was the trainer and their pokemon.
Maka froze outside the doors. 'The thing in there is powerful. Too powerful,' she thought, but quickly shook her head free from the notion. 'No. I'm going to be a Pokemon master… If there's pokemon in trouble inside, then I have to help.'
The door creaked as she opened it. Before her laid dozens of pokemon, their eyes not just swirling from fainting, but lifeless. In the middle of the room stood a tall, lanky child with unevenly cut, pink hair. Their clothing was tattered and dark. There wasn't a pokemon by their side, yet Maka saw the data for one. POKeMON TRAINER Crona Lv 31 and Ragnoirok Lv 31.
The trainer, Crona, didn't face Maka or her pokemon. "Funny how old doors only open in one direction," they mumble.
"Sol?" Soul questioned.
Crona turned their head, revealing lavender eyes. "Raggie, Ragno," a new voice said.
"Ragnoirok, now's not the time to talk."
With flickering eyes, Maka tried to find the pokemon. Her only guess was that it was blending in with its trainer or it had kecleon-like abilities, since the boxes implied that the pokemon was on top of his owner in some way. The boxes moved so weirdly. "Soul… I think that trainer might be their own pokemon…"
"Sol sol?"
"I don't understand it either, but I think I will soon."
Crona stood, their eyes wide, but pupils small. They cried in pain as black, liquid ooze started pouring out and taking shape. As it's form soilitified, it was clear that the pokemon inside was horse-like in shape, even with only the upper half showing. White hooves appeared, along with a white X across the face. Aside from that and the gray stap on it's right side, the thing was completely black. Two perfect spheres, both white, popped out of the horse head and moved like eyes with Xs instead of pupils. The way the horse Pokemon emerged from the human's back looked almost like a centaur, but the opposite. The horse was much more muscular than the child it was attached too, and quite a bit more threatening too. White spikes poked out of it's back, making the transformation complete.
Its head reared toward Maka and Soul as they watched in awe and horror. "Ragnoirok?" it said. Maka and Soul continued to stare as it turned back to Crona. It clocked the child's head with one hoof.
"Stop that," they complained. That just made the monster start squishing Crona's head with both hooves, making them complain more. It only stopped after Crona yelled "I SAID STOP IT!"
"Ragno noir," the horse pouted.
Maka and Soul exchanged looks of confusion, but then Maka shook her head to get back on focus. "We aren't allowed to hurt pokemon like you did. Battling with them after they faint is just cruel and unneeded; that was lesson one at Lord Death's school."
Crona tilted her head at Maka. "Who? I don't know what you're talking about. She lets me do this, so it can't be against the rules."
"I don't know who you're talking about, but hurting pokemon like this is inhumane! You have to stop, or I'll stop you myself."
It was silent for a moment. "Noirok," the black horse pokemon said.
"Sol!" Soul protested.
Crona nodded. It seemed like Maka was the only one that didn't know what was just said, but she figured it out when the child spoke. "Yeah, you're right Ragnoirok. We should kill them too. She'd be happy about how much experience we're getting. Use fury cutter."
"What?! No! Soul, dodge it and use feint attack!"
Soul did just as he was told, but his feint attack did no damage at all. The only thing that happened was that Crona got a nose bleed. Their blood was black. Pitch black. The same pitch black as the pokemon coming out of their back.
Watching this, Maka realized something. "Soul, that kid's pokemon is in their blood." Soul looked at its trainer as she continued. "It must have an ability that makes attacks ineffective. At least dark type attacks, but maybe all physical ones." She reached for her other pokeballs, then remembered that she left Blair in the pokemon center.
Crona whipped the black blood off of her face. "It's not very nice to attack like that… Ragnoirok, use scream resonance."
The horse smiled wide, showing a huge, offsetting pair of pearly whites. Opening its mouth, the most ear bleeding scream came out of it, vibrating it. Maka and Soul both flinched at it, Maka covering her ears.
"Soul! Use scratch!" Maka ordered. She knew that Soul only knew physical moves, so this was the best that she could try.
The absol ran up to the ragnoirok with claws bared, but the second it touched the viscous horse's vibrating body, it started vibrating violently too.
Soul screamed in pain, making Maka's blood curdle. She saw how far Crona goes with pokemon. If that attack genuinely did that much damage, she feared the worst. They had to retreat.
Soul fell to the ground, but soon stumbled back to its feet. "Fury cutter," Crona said.
"Doudge it! And retreat."
Soul barely dodged, but glanced at its trainer as it did. "Sol sol!"
She didn't understand it, but felt judged by her pokemon. "I know it's a trainer battle but we have to run!" She was running to the doors herself, waving for Soul to follow. Being too prideful to give up so fast, it was hesitating.
"You're not supposed to run away," Crona said, walking toward Maka. Ragnoirok was still screaming behind them. "She says I should just attack you and get you out of the way." Maka made it to the door, desperately pushing, but it did budge. "She's right you know," Crona continued. "I should get rid of you. You didn't even listen when I said the doors only open one way. Why should we even keep you around."
Maka was cornered against the door, Crona and their Ragnoirok were inches away. She couldn't dodge a direct attack, and she couldn't have Soul attack back or that'd be the end for it.
Crona pointed at Maka. "Slash her in half."
Bracing for the attack, Maka thought her fate was set. Ragnoirok stopped screaming and had a hoof morph into a sharp blade. Her eyes closed, and the sound of a swing was heard following by the gushing of blood. Still, she felt nothing. Reopening her eyes, she saw Soul in front of her, vitaly injured. The floor was stained red with his blood.
Tears appeared in her eyes at the sight. "SOUL!" she screeched. She fell to the ground cradling her partner. "No, Soul, please. Please just be fainted." the tears rolled down her face, falling onto the pokemon's once white fur. Out of the corner of her blurry vision, she saw Ragnoirok reading its attack again, but she couldn't do anything. She just held Soul tighter.
Suddenly the door got a blade though it that pierced both Crona and Ragniorok too. Around it, the door broke to pieces. From behind the broken remnants of the door was a scyther, the owner of the blade in Crona's chest, Spirit, the owner of the scyther, and Stein.
Energy surged through the scyther, sending Crona spiralling away from them. "Great job, Arisa," Spirit praised as he and Stein walked in. 'Now Maka will tell me how great of a job I did as a trainer~' he thought, but the young girl was too preoccupied with her pokemon to praise her father.
"Dr. Stein, will Soul be okay?"
He glanced over the fainted and injured pokemon. "This is nothing a simple revive can help, but yes, as long as he gets healed soon he'll be fine. I would put him back in his pokeball for now to help slow the damage."
Maka nodded and did just that. She looked to her opponent, who was getting bullied by the horse on their back. "There's something off about that kid and their pokemon," Maka said.
"Yes, we know. It's Ragnoirok, the demon pokemon. I've never seen it inside of a child before, but shouldn't change much. With its livid type and black blood ability, it's pretty hard to attack, but I have a way." Stein released a Porygon2 that flew to the scyther's side like it was natural.
"When did Porygon evolve?" Spirit asked. "I thought you didn't trust trading pokemon. Does it have the same moves still?"
"I traded with myself, and yes, it still has the same moves, but don't switch to your castform. We need defence."
Spirit nodded in understanding, but Maka was still confused. "Wait," she asked, "How do you know so much about it? And what do you mean by livid type?"
"Kid never told you about livid type?" Spirit questioned.
Stein explained. "Ragnoirok is a form-changing legendary pokemon that was corrupted long ago. Death started the Master Program to stop corrupted pokemon like this. We defeated it long ago, but it's somehow back and now is inside of a child. We just have to defeat it again."
"The Master Program…" Maka mumbled. She knew full well of the Master Program, since both her parents were in it. Only the best of the best trainers in Jotia could make it into that group, most of which happened to be pokemon meisters. They were a sort of like the region's elite four, but unlike the elite four, there were much more than four, getting to be one was fairly harder to accomplish, and they usually roamed through the regions, so finding one wasn't so easy. It was the most defining way to be able to call yourself a 'Pokemon Master', and Maka wanted nothing more to follow in her mother's footsteps and become one.
"Two trainers at once?" Crona questioned. "I don't know how to deal with two trainers at once." They stopped for a moment, as if listening to someone. "You're right, I should just kill them all."
Hearing that, the two and their pokemon stood in a way, more prepared for battle. Spirit glanced at his daughter. "Maka, stay back and don't get hurt, we'll handle this. Arisa, swords dance."
"Porygon2, solar beam." Porygon2 started absorbing light from the windows as the Scyther's attack was rising.
"Rag! Ragnoir!" The horse complained, shoving Crona's head.
Apparently distraught at what their pokemon just told them, Crona got ready for battle too. "Scream resonance!" Ragnoirok started screaming again, vibrating everything.
The battle continued with Maka just sitting in the corner, cuddling her pokeball. She hadn't watched her father double battle in a while, but it was his speciality. Granted he sucks on his own, so Stein's amazing abilities as a trainer really carried their battle. The strategy they were using was unorthodox, but definitely working. Crona would attack them, but Spirit put his pokemon in the way, and used its attack power as a sudo-defence stat. It made Arisa hardly take damage. Stein would either use the opening Spirit was making to charge up a solar beam or get thunder in a point blank range. Such strong special moves were still not doing too much damage to the demon pokemon, but it was much more than she could ever dream of inflicting.
Every attack scattered drops of Ragnoirok's liquid-like body all around. "Bloody needle!" Crona ordered. It was an attack Maka never heard of, just like scream resonance. Apparently, the more damaged a pokemon, the more damage it does back, since it made the scattered drops of black blood levitate and form balls of spikes that all were sent to attack the trainers. Spirit barely dodged them, but Stein got hurt by one. It hardly affected their battle. Now that they knew to look out for the spikes, both Spirit and Stein were dodging them with ease, still ordering their pokemon. The level of multitask needed for something like that was truly amazing.
"Blizzard now!" Stein ordered. His Porygon2 conjured up icy winds and blew Crona out through hole that used to be a door. The two and their pokemon left to continue the battle outside while Maka watched from the doorway.
"We have some space now, you want to do this?" Spirit asked.
Stein nodded.
Both trainers started glowing blue, and soon so did their pokemon. "Partner link!" they said in unison. Their glow became brighter, and it caused the scyther and the Porygon2 to combine into something entirely new. A scygon2. It was a large, floating pokemon with scythes for arms coming out of its smooth sides. It was mostly scyther-green, but it had a blue bottom and tail, and hot pink wings. It had small, clawed feet at its end and four eyes.
It was a link fusion. Maka had learned about them at school. It seemed to be something that can happen only in Jotia, or maybe only people from Jotia can pull it off. To make it work, two trainers would have to be in perfect sync with each other and both pokemon, and their pokemon have to be in sync too. The resulting pokemon becomes as strong as the previous two put together, so pretty strong, and adopts a type from both. It's much easier to do it with weaker pokemon, so the stronger the pokemon, the shorter the combination tends to last.
Spirit was always great at double battles, but especially good at partner linking. He could do it fairly easily with almost any of his pokemon, which is how he and Maka's mom rose to being Pokemon Masters so quickly.
"A-a fusion pokemon?!" Crona said. "I don't know how to deal with fusion pokemon!"
"Scygon2 Hunter!" Spirit and Stein ordered in unison. It must have been a combination move. For link fusion pokemon, moves are chosen from each pokemon, which ones are chosen depends on the trainers, so they must really be in sync or else they'll make a pokemon without moves. One new combination move can also be made, and its type and power depends on the pokemon being combined. Typically, it's super powerful, and both a physical and special attack.
Scygon2 had a beam of pure energy shoot off of it. Crona and Ragnoirok tried to block it, but it was no use. They fell to the ground unconscious, the black blood around them stayed motionless too. Porygon2 and the scyther split from each other, since the combination was still rather unstable.
Walking toward the fainted trainer and pokemon, Stein brought out a master ball. "We'll have to contain this legendary before it can get even more powerful."
As he threw, Crona's body got teleported away, making the master ball bounce off the ground. All that was left was an S scorched into the pavement.
"Team Salem," Stein said. "They're behind this whole thing. That could lead to trouble."
Spirit looked over the symbol. "They really are reaching new lows. Experimenting on pokemon is one thing, but putting one inside of a person, and just a little kid too, it's just getting worse."
"Speaking of getting worse, we should probably help your daughter's pokemon before it's too late. Until we find Team Salem's base, there's not much we can do now anyway."
'And those are all 1,000 of the previsions,' Excalisaber said. It told them its legend, and it was a jumbled mess full of blatant inconsistencies. The whole time it explained, it was pointing its cane at the kids, calling them fools, and just generally being an annoying jerk. Now it handed them both a giant ream of paper filled with impractical and tedious rules that they'd have to follow to get him as a pokemon. 'And thus, as long as you follow every single one daily, you shall throw anything type of pokeball at me, and I will forever be by your side! You will have ever-lasting victory and glory!' It gave each of them a premier ball.
"Victory," Kid mumbled.
"Glory," Black Star repeated.
They both readied their premier balls, but then threw them into the water far behind the legendary pokemon.
"As if anybody would want to catch you," Black Star said.
"You're deplorable," Kid added. The two started walking away. Not even those amazing stats could make a person want a pokemon that horrible.
Desperate to get away as fast as possible, even with a slight detour to the now-organized library, Kid and Black Star made it back to the pokecenter in no time. Once they arrived, they were greeted with Maka on the floor, looking miserable, and Spirit nearby.
"What happened?!" Black Star asked.
"It's Soul…" Maka mumbled. She explained the whole story, but as she did, Spirit pulled Kid into another room.
He told the young reaper all about the demon pokemon, even more than Maka knew. "If that pokemon reaches full power, there's nothing anybody could do to stop it. Your father can't do what he did with… you know who… again. Another Reaper would have to."
Kid was looking at the floor. "So I'm going to get trapped in Death City too? Maybe even smaller than that..."
"No, it's not definite. If we find Team Salem before it gets enough experience to become a full threat, you won't have to do anything. I'm just letting you know for a worst case scenario."
Kid nodded. "I understand. I will do whatever's necessary to keep the world in balance, even that." He looked off the floor. "But I will never stop looking for Team Salem. I will find them, and destroy them."
There was a knock at the door. Kid and Spirit looked to see Stein walk in. "The operation was a complete success. Soul should heal back to normal within days. Maka and Black Star are with him if you want to go too."
"That's great!" Kid said.
"It is," Spirit added, not sounding very enthusiastic. "So why aren't you smiling?"
Stein's glasses shone as he looked at Kid. "You won't tell Maka and Black Star, right?" Kid nodded hesitantly. "Good. I wasn't lying, Soul will physically be back to normal in a few days, but I noticed something. Some of Ragnoirok's black blood mixed with Soul's, and there's no way of removing it. I had to seal him up with the black blood still inside of him."
"And what does that mean?" Kid asked. "Is Soul a livid type now? Will he be like that Gyrados?"
"It's not that severe, but I don't know how it will affect him. I can't imagine it'll be good. One day, he may become a livid type, but I can't say when, or if he will for sure. Kid, keep tabs on him. Check his typing every once in a while. If he becomes corrupt like the demon pokemon, I trust you know what to do."
"Yeah," Kid sighed. He hated the thought of it, but it was his responsibility to make sure no great evils, or kishins, ever rise again. "Like I said, I'd do whatever is necessary to keep the balance of good and evil in this world. It's my duty."
"Excellent," Stein said. He put a cigarette in his mouth and lit it. "I trust you won't let us down. Or your father."
"I promise."
A/N: Oh no, what is to become of our heroes? All these secrets. By the way, if these were real game mechanics, then wow, it'd get complicated. I should explain that the pokemon fusions are not just directly something that would come out of a fusion generator, but are also somewhat like gem fusion in Steven Universe. How intense. What will happen next time? I mean, I'm still heavily basing it off of the soul eater anime, so you can probably guess what happens next time, but you'll truly find out as the journey continues!
