The first day of working at Jessop didn't start off as well as she would have hoped. She knew something like this would happen as Mr Jessop put her through the paces. She figured he would see just what she could already do and how much of it she could do. However, there was something about him which... she doesn't know. It just didn't sit well with her. He acted like a nice polite boss but yeah something didn't seem right about him. On, the bright side she doesn't have to like her boss to get paid besides she highly doubts she will be spending much time around him so she's decided to ignore that feeling. For now, at least. He's probably going to be a serial killer and manage to kill her because she ignored her gut feeling. Oh well, she still gets paid and all the money still goes to Aiden so she's good with that. Her workload mostly consists of moving barrels and boxes around from one place to another and then a lot of farm work which she easily managed to pick up on but she still will need to do a lot of practice to keep up with the other labour hands plotted around. Today was mostly uprooting plants and then replanting new one with of course watering them. Liz did enjoy working on creating new life. it was pretty interesting when another of the farmers would explain what each plant is and what it's used for. That was until my muscles started to ache from overdoing it. Not to even mention just how hot it is working in that blazing sun all day. She's definitely sure that all of her exposed skin is burnt which added to the muscles burning means she will struggle a little tomorrow. At least she now knows to wear sun cream and doing all this labour will strengthen her making it easier in the weeks to come.
The main highlight of the day so far was meeting Rachel again. When Liz was attending to the land, she noticed Rachel was also working it on the other side of the compound. Maybe she'll get lucky and work near here. Wait. That sounds sort of stalkerish which is starting to become a trend around the poor girl. What she meant was it would be nice to chat with her again she seems like a sweet girl who Liz may or may not have a crush. However, with her lunch break appearing maybe she could talk to her. Or would that be weird? Yeah, be searching the farm for her would be strange. You know what she's just going to take her lunch box and go sit over by the trees out of this blazing sun that sounds like a decent way to spend her break... Until she's attacked and eaten by a bear or something. With my luck, it would happen. Perching down under the shade of some trees Liz start to munch on a sandwich while looking back over at the farm. It really is a beautiful place to live and she knows Aiden will love the forest so he can go camping fishing hiking and maybe hunting when he's older. Elizabeth spends the next few minutes lost in my thoughts as she debates whether or not she could move them out here. It wouldn't bother her as much since her best and only friend lives in Seattle but they could still text and call. It's Aiden that the issue is with as all friends are there and since they are looking after him it wouldn't be right to move him away from all that. But there means they will always be reminded of their dad in Seattle and the fear that he will come and take Aiden away. Liz sidelines these thoughts for now. Going to put a lot of thought into this but at a later date since she's only been here for a few hours. Any more internal debate was cut off when a sudden voice catches her off guard making Liz yelp and jump slightly. "Sorry I didn't mean to startle you." The mumbled voice shyly states from beside her. Tilting her head to look up she sees Rachel standing next to her with her own lunch which consists of a salad. Again, Rachel looking down at the floor avoiding eye contact twirling her barefoot on the ground. Guessing it's a nervous tick Liz quickly tried to make her feel more comfortable.
"Don't worry it's fine I was just lost in my own head." Liz gives her a smile she hopes is comforting before shifting over a little inviting her to sit down. A few seconds later Rachel places herself next to Liz.
"I always come out here to eat my lunch it has the best view." Rachel says sounding a little nervous while picking at her salad. "It's nice to get away for a little while.
"You know I was just thinking about the view myself." Liz tell her trying to continue their conversation. "I have to admit it's very different being out here compared to the city. It's quieter." Seattle is mostly cars and bikes dashing off to various places while out here it's just nature. It's relaxing and comforting. She does prefer to be outside then inside and has done ever since she was a child. That's mainly one of the reasons she applied to be here. to be able to work in the great outdoors. to experience views like this. it truly is breathtaking here. Like something straight out of a movie but better.
"What's the city like." Rachel asks curiously turning to face her. Her eyes shine bright with what she can only assume is wonder. Liz takes it she has never left the county before.
"The city." uhh how does one describe it. "Well, the major difference is the landscape. Instead of fields and forests, it just building and skyscrapers. The roads are always bustling with traffic. Shops are just about everywhere you look mainly Starbucks. I swear I can't walk more than a few blocks in the city without running across one." From the confused expression on her face, Liz guesses there isn't a Starbucks here. "When there isn't a Starbucks there's always a different kind of coffee shop laying about." Rachel smiles in understanding which makes Liz heart skip a beat and before she can even complete what she talking about. "You have a beautiful smile" slips out much to her own horror. Ok, act natural don't freak out just smile at her. if you freak out she will freak out more. Instead of pulling away from her in disgust or weirdness, Liz is pleasantly surprised by Rachel's reaction. Her response is one that makes Liz smile in a real way as Rachel's seems smile grow and she turns her head away from Liz but not without Liz seeing her blush. Score. "Thank you." She mumbles nervously but happily moving a strand of her hair behind her ear letting out a small giggle. The silence hangs around them for a few minutes as they both enjoy the atmosphere and eat their lunches. "What do you think about Hope's County so far." She asks breaking the silence.
"Honestly I think I prefer here it then city. I love nature and the city lacks it but here it's all around you which beautiful." Liz replies while looking out on the mountains that are nearby and she pretty sure she just saw a deer or something causing a small smile to grace her face. She swears to god she's smiled more today than she has in a month at home.
"We should head back." Rachel says suddenly standing up after glancing at her watch. By the time Elizabeth stood up, she's already halfway back to Jessop. Pocking her packing she takes off running after Rachel managing to catch up to her just as she enters through the gate. Rachel sneaks a peek at her before telling Liz that "My dad hates it when I'm late sorry." Apologising while seeming to hug herself almost as if trying to calm herself down. Her actions make Liz think that it's not a normal nervousness in her voice. She almost sounds panicked but before Liz could ask her if she's ok she's already walked away to where she working before. Her reaction sets alarm bell's off in Liz's head but maybe I'm overthinking it. She hopes she isn't Rachel she doesn't deserve anything bad to happen to her not like what like happening with my family. But she can't ignore how her reactions are similar to that of Aiden's. Shrugging it off, for now, Liz go back to work. Can't get fired on my first day now can I. the thoughts still linger in her mind as she tries to think of ways she could help Rachel if that is the case.
The moon is clearly visible high up in the night sky shining ever so bright. It seems to be brighter out here then it was back in Seattle. Light pollution what can you do. Anyways it's a good thirty-minute drive to the trailer park that she's staying at because for one it's close to Jessop and two it is very very cheap. The conditions aren't the best but it'll do. Turning on her phone she sees her brother sent her a few texts wishing her luck on her first day at work and wishing her a goodnight. Liz sends him a quick goodnight text before heading off to shower because she reeks. The light blast of the water is mildly warm washing away a day's work away as well as soothing her body from the work. However, the heated water doesn't last long forcing her to get out far sooner then she would have liked. Quickly changing into a pair of shorts and a sleeveless top she collapse onto her bed falling asleep the moment her head hit's the pillow.
