Hi, this is my first fanfiction.
I am aspiring to be an author, so if you have any criticisms, I encourage anything constructive.
I made this because I felt inspired by some animations by a YouTube channel called shar.
Thought it would be a fun way to start my writing career (if it ever turns into one.)
I plan on adding to this whenever I get a chance.
Hope you enjoy.
Link step off the train and started his long walk home. It was already late since he couldn't head home until he finished soccer practice. He looked at his phone as he slowly made his way down the battered old farm road. It was almost dark when he got home, so he tried not to make a racket. His parents were up and down with the sun, so he figured he'd let them sleep. He quickly ate a banana and fell into bed knowing that tomorrow was going to be another long day.
Link sat down in the crowded classroom when a young lady at the front of the room spoke up, "Hello, I am your new science teacher. My name is Purah and I will be taking over this class for the remainder of the year."
"What happened to Robbie?" asked one of the students.
"He is… indisposed for the moment."
"Did he blow himself up again?"
"Not this time. It's… complicated. That's not important, we're here to learn physics. For now, everyone pair up with the person directly next to you. 1st and 2nd row together, same for 3rd and 4th as well as 5th and 6th."
Link, near the back of the 2nd row turned to his left. Sitting there was a blonde girl who had just recently moved to the area. She turned to him, "Hello, my name is Zelda. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"Link, nice to meet you." He responded, a bit confused by how formal she was.
Purah continued at the front of the class. "You'll be working together with your partner on the project we'll be working on for the next few weeks. Now to get started well go over the wtlegbegr and rnydyh law of iubtyvr. Now this is defined by sbunstzzszp oenxvrg fnugdnerg onumymybvg",
Link furrowed his brow as he stared holes at the black board and said under his breath "Is she still speaking English?"
Zelda exhaled sharply, causing Link to look over. She was covering her mouth obviously holding in laughter at his comment. She interrupted Purah, "Purah, Ma'am."
Purah turned to her with a semi-exasperated look "How many times have I told you not to call me 'Ma'am' Zelda? It makes me feel old."
"Sorry Ma'am"
Purah rolled her eyes, "What's the matter, did you have a question."
"We haven't gotten that far yet. We were still in chapter 7 when Professor Robbie last taught."
"Ugh…" Purah rubbed her temples. "Now I see why I was pulled into this class. You're all a month behind. We're into the third quarter now and we have to cover through 15 before finals. We're gonna have to kick it into high gear to catch up on our lost ground."
The class collectively groaned. They proceeded to spend the next half hour figuring out exactly what had been covered by their previous teacher. Then copying a set of study notes to review as Purah spent the last minutes of the class muttering and scowling to herself at her desk. As Link finished the last of the notes, he noticed Zelda looking over the handout they'd received at the beginning of class for the project.
"You don't think that she's gonna still make us do the project, even though we're behind." Link whispered over to her.
Zelda looked up, startled that someone spoke to her. "Yeah, it'll probably be delayed, but we'll still have to do it."
"You know her?"
She nodded, "When I moved here, my father reached out to the school for a private tutor to make sure I was up to date with our classes before I actually started attending. She was my teacher for science. She's quite nice and even silly at times, but she is very serious when it comes to science."
"I see." Link responded. He thought to himself about the situation. He was never one for any form of math or science, and he was nervous about the oncoming flood of work that he was about to receive. He thought of something and asked, "How far did you guys get when she was tutoring you?"
Zelda paused for a moment, "She went a little further than necessary, and we ended up going all the way to chapter 9, or maybe 10."
"So, you're caught up with everything that we were supposed to have learned by now. You think you could help me out with studying? At least until we've caught up the lost ground?"
Now flustered, Zelda fumbled over her words trying to respond, "Well, I… I don't know… I've never taught anyone befo-"
A voice interrupted her, "Well that's that, class is over, I have to figure out how the hell I'm going to rework this entire class to get you up to date without throwing you out of whack. We'll talk about the project next week. Until then go over those notes and read the rest of chapter 7. Dismissed!"
As the class started funneling out of the room, Link said "I'll talk to you tomorrow, I have soccer practice in an hour, and I have to find something to eat." He then ran over to a boy with platinum blonde hair with the tips dyed dark gray who was waiting by the door. Zelda sat there confounded as everyone left. Purah saw that she was still sitting there, and asked, "You staying all day? I could use some company for dinner."
Zelda snapped back to reality, "Ah, Sorry Ma'am, I just… I was just asked to help someone study. That has never happened to me before so I'm not really sure what to do."
Purah smiled mischievously, having seen Link talking to her. "Well, do your best. Your smart enough, it shouldn't give you any trouble."
"I… I'll think about it. Have a good evening Ma'am." Zelda said as she left for home.
"Stop calling me Ma'am!" Purah shouted at her.
"Run, Link, we're gonna be late because of you."
"I'm sorry Teba," Link mumbled through a mouth of food. "I was just really hungry"
"You're always hungry."
They sprinted through the empty school halls to the locker rooms at the back of the school. After changing, they ran out onto the field.
"Your late!"
"Sorry, Coach Dorian."
"Bah, do your stretches and join the others."
"Yes, Coach Dorian"
They ran over to join the others. They group up with a young but tall red-head and a slightly chubby kid to run their drills.
"Hey, you guys made it." Sidon greeted them "We started to think you weren't coming."
"Link thought it'd be a good idea to eat three meals" Teba explained.
"It was two" Link countered.
"Mmhmm… lunch…" Yunobo drooled over the thought. He'd much rather do something involving food. Like cooking or baking. Or eating. But he always showed up ready to go and didn't even complain about the exercise. Much. He could never keep up with the rest of them and hardly played in any games. But his grandfather had coached the team for decades until he passed away, so no one had the heart to discourage him.
"Less drooling, more running." Sidon rebuked him. Sidon on the other hand was a 3rd year middle school student, 2 years younger than the rest of them. Yet he was good enough to play on the high school team. He'd known Link for years, so he grew up idolizing him, in a very competitive manner. Anything Link would do; Sidon would figure out how to do soon after. Which is how Sidon got on to the team the same year as Link.
For the next 3 hours, they ran lap and drills until their coach decided that they'd had enough abuse. Flopping over on the side of the field, Link and Teba gulped down some water. Yunobo finally stumbled over, gasping for air, as Sidon dribbled a ball around him.
"Why are you… *gasp* so… energetic…" Yunobo complained.
"I'm just raring to go. Ready to kick ass in our next game. What about you? How do you still have any extra weight on you after running this much day after day?" Sidon countered while juggling the ball.
"No… *gasp* idea… I'm down to… 230lbs."
"Progress is progress my friend. Keep at it, you'll be fit in no time!"
Link turned his head away from the two, towards Teba. "How' you feeling about the situation with our science class?"
"Hmm, not great. I was doing fine until now, so I think I'll be ok. Though trying to grasp the concepts at twice the speed is still a frightening idea."
"Agreed. I'm paired up with the new girl, Zelda. Seems she's pretty good at all the science stuff, so I was going to try and get her to help me study."
Teba smirked, "Yeah, you'll probably need it."
"Hey!"
"I'll continue on my own. I've always been better without someone around, distracting me."
Link checked his phone, "I'd better head home. If I get home after my parents go to bed two nights in a row, they'll start to get worried."
"Alright, see you tomorrow."
"Leaving already? At this rate I'll be better than you any day now." Sidon prodded.
"Not yet though. I'm still the center forward for a reason. Besides, you know how Mom is when I make her nervous. I'll see you tomorrow, say hi to Mipha for me, would ya?" Link said his goodbyes and headed into the locker room.
Link walked into his home and was immediately assaulted by an array of smells from the kitchen. "What's cooking, Mom?"
"I have some stew on the stove and a side of rice in the cooker. Why do you keep getting home so late?"
"Coach runs us like slaves. Kept us until 5 today."
"Let Dorian know that he is gonna get an earful if he keeps keeping you there that late, it gets dangerous on the roads this late at night."
"I'll let him know. Where's dad?" Link responded absentmindedly.
"He already ate and went to bed. He's been getting up early to get the field into shape. I'm going to bed too. Don't stay up too late, sweetie." She said, giving Link a kiss on the cheek.
"Mhmm" Link grunted, robotically eating enough for two people. Afterwards, he looked at his homework readings until he fell asleep.
