Chapter 3 - Back When I Didn't Know You

( Beginning of October 2020)

If you had to describe Hiccup Haddock in a few words, hopelessly romantic would pop up, also dorky, geeky, head over heels, kind, caring, adorably sweet, smart, oh and definitely, extremely, totally in love. He'd like to think those were his best qualities. And they certainly came out around a very special young lady.

He had his ways to take the words literally out of Astrid's mouth, and this was one of those moments. The black dragon was the best Chinese restaurant in Berk, and it happened to be Hiccup's favourite place to eat, he took her here on their first date but never did she expect when she turned up this time to walk into an empty restaurant. She walked in, dressed up in her favourite little red dress that fit her figure perfectly, she was guided in by the smallest group of staff. She'd never seen it so quiet, and that was before she walked into the main dining area, all tables were empty bar one. A small one in the middle, with a candle that lite it up and a very handsome young man that sat on one of the chairs, in her favourite Burgundy suit she loved so much. He wore that on their first date, it was one of the reasons she said yes to a second date.

He looked over to her, eyes lighting up when he saw he from across the room, and before she knew it she was smiling back too, he really did bring out the soft side in her, it was like a warm soft feeling in her chest when ever he looked over with his dorky Hiccup smile.

A waiter came up beside her, offering her his arm to escort her to her table, while Hiccup stood up and watch her walk over. He too had butterflies in his stomach, he knew she wasn't a romantic but he couldn't help but spoil her and even though she told him time and time again that she didn't need anything grand, he took his payment in the smile she gave him, every time.

He took it upon himself to take her to a restaurant that had special meaning to them, and paid to have he whole place to themselves, that said they were keeping their relationship on the quiet side till the two decided otherwise. He only took his seat when she was fully seated herself.

" I think you've definitely out done yourself this time Haddock." She looked around the building, not one table was occupied, the only people in this room was her and Hiccup and maybe one or two waiters that brought water and bread. There were possibly people in the kitchen but she didn't know.

" You don't like it? Should I have done something else?" He was a panicked when it came to her, like he always seemed to get nervous with her, he couldn't put his finger on it, but she had complete and utter control over him.

" No - no," she paused, watching her face as he went from concerned to confused, " its perfect" she watched as he relaxed, giggling to herself that he was just as nervous as she was, even though they had both been on many dates before, they set butterflies off in each others stomaches. He was a grown man, 5 years older than her, a business man, and yet he was love struck by this uni student that caught him by surprise. She was different to any other girl he had met before, the difference was she had no idea who he was at first, and that some what made it easier.

Looking back now, 3 months ago when he first brought her here, he was defiantly more nervous than he was now, but she had the same effect on him when she walked through the door, but then he was wearing the Burgundy suit she loved so much, and she walked in wearing a lovely orange playsuit.

3 months ago- June 2020

He'd never felt so nervous in his life, he hadn't expected to feel this way, especially since he had already seen her before when they went for coffee, but something happened while they were on there coffee break together, he released how much he actually like her. She was full of life and excitement, talking about what she wanted to do after uni, she had so much ambition for herself, and he loved listening to it. It was like every time she was with him, she gave him this sense of confidence in himself.

Watching the door like a hawk he could feel his palms getting sweaty. He'd been in many relationships before this bouncing blonde came into his life, but she wasn't like anyone he'd ever thought he would meet. She walked through the door, he could spot her blonde hair in her braid anywhere, and her golden locks were complimented with the satin orange playsuit she wore. She was simply perfect, perfect golden blonde hair, a golden tan that made her so natural she didn't need hardly any makeup. She had an athletes figure, from what he found out she loved to run, and you could tell by her legs, all lean and slender, they looked extra long when she was wearing them white heels.

However he was surprised, never had he had her down for a heels type of person.

She spotted him straight away, his auburn hair matching his Burgundy suit, and his goofy smile as he looked her up and down. She knew she looked amazing so she wasn't gonna say anything to him about staring, but she had to admit, he didn't look too bad himself. If fact he scrubbed up very nice indeed.

" H-hi, wow, you - you look absolutely stunning" he took her hand as she got closer, helping her to her seat.

" Thank you," she sat down, " you don't look half bad yourself" she eyed him up and down giving him the confidence to know she liked what she could see. It was no secret Hiccup was a nerd on the inside, he may hold himself in a mysterious way, but to be in business he had to be smart, and she soon found out he was defiantly the class nerd back in high school. So whenever she would compliment him on how utterly gorgeous he was too, she would notice the slight blush appear on his cheeks.

She didn't know that much about him, other than the fact he did business management in uni at the university she was at. So she only guessed he was an office based worker. Yet she wouldn't have him down as an office man stuck at a table all day long, she had him as a man that would go out and get a little dirty, dig into his job, but then you can't judge people on first meetings.

However she really didn't know Hiccup at all. And it soon came into notice that everyone in the restaurant did, as they were ordering she noticed the many, many tables that looked her way, she wondered if it was her, if it was the way she was dressed, looking at the prices this defiantly was a place out of her price limit, and places liked this had a certain dress code.

Was it too bright?

Too short?

Did she look trampy?

As the evening continued she began feeling well out place, feeling eyes bro at the back of her neck. Even the waiters looked at them funny as they took their plates, Hiccup didn't seem fazed by it at all, or maybe he just didn't notice.

The fact was that they were looking at her, not because of how she dressed but because who she was with, anyone who was raised in berk knew a Haddock from a mile off. And Hiccup was one that was very well known here in the city. But she wasn't raised on berk and had never in the past 2 years of living here and she came across the name Haddock, she didn't know half of the man that was sat right in front of her.

" Hey? You okay?" Her paranoia must have been showing through her face as Hiccup looked over to her.

" Yeah, its just," for a second she thought of not saying anything, maybe she was being crazy, maybe it was just first date jitters, then the woman from the table across them shot them a look and she couldn't hold it in. " okay Is it me or are people staring?"

Hiccup immediately looked round and noticed where she was coming from, and now his mood changed, he knew exactly what was going on, Hiccup Haddock the talk of the dinning room.

" You know what, how about we get our desserts to go" he signalled the closest waiter to them before she had time to agree, it put her nerves on edge a little, like he knew something she didn't. Watching as the waiter walked off she had an urge to ask what was going on? Was it that they were looking at her? Was he embarrassed of her? Was this just some type of joke?

Her hand jerked backwards when she felt something touch it, but it was only Hiccups reaching over for reassurance. " you okay?" Nodding she thought best not to bring it up.

It was nerves, that's what it was, Hiccup looked as if he was nervous himself, maybe she was just being paranoid because of the nerves. Just like Hiccup was being very awkward as he starched the back of his neck the 50th time in the past 5 minutes, it was nerves, first date jitters. Wasn't it?

Their desserts arrived all wrapped up and ready to go, and pushing the thoughts out of her mind, she let her date guide her out of the restaurant, not thinking about it anymore. While Hiccup couldn't help but feel the hairs on the back of his neck twitch, he knew it was going to be hard, dating a girl who knew nothing of Berks history. More like his family's history, he knew sooner or later their picture would be in the news, he had to tell her, eventually. Right now he just wanted to enjoy his time, before reality kicked in.

Xx

He remembered that date like it was yesterday, his eyes kept flicking back to her and the road as they drove back to his. They hardly ever stayed for dessert now, it was more of who's place were they gonna end up at, and since Astrid knew ruff would be at hers they decided his would be best for this evening. She was still as mesmerising today as she was the first time he saw her, in fact he felt she got more beautiful the more and more he saw her.

He wondered if she ever thought about their first date, it was the start of where they were today, and even though he couldn't deny that it was a bumpy start, he most certainly wouldn't change a thing.

The car pulled up outside his house after driving down his driveway. And being the gentleman he was he raced towards the other side of his car before she even had time to unbuckle her seat belt.

" Milady" he had opened her door and offered his hand.

" Hiccup how many times, I can climb out of a car myself" however she still took his hand even if she was acting stubborn. Letting him help her out and up towards him.

" and what sort of a boyfriend would I be if I didn't offer" their noses touched and eyes wandering into each other's.

" true, very true" lips touched softly not noticing the front doors opening up. However even if they had, it probably wouldn't have stopped them, melting into the mould of each other, the burning sensation between the two mouths crashing together. It may have even been chilly but that wouldn't have stopped them as they created their own warmth with each other. No nothing would have stopped them, nothing but ...

" excuse me Mr Haddock?" But the sound of another woman's voice.

Now it's not what you'd think, if Astrid didn't know the voice she too would have questioned a women's presence in her boyfriends house. But she knew the voice of the middle aged woman, Luna. She was from Bulgaria believe it or not, small lady, petite frame, monstrous personality if you get on her bad side. She was Hiccups head house keeper of course, she had to have a stern side to her, Astrid remembers the time she saw her tear strips off off one of the cleaning staff, when the poor girl had spilt a dirty bucket of water all over Hiccups kitchen floor. But she was firm but fair, that's what made her perfect for the job. And she did love her job, she said so countless of times, even though the hours were long, full days work 8am to 6:30pm but she was generously paid, and had 1 hour and a half break time everyday for herself. Hiccup was also generous with letting her have long periods of time off to visit her family in Bulgaria too, so she always said, when she could, how much she appreciated her job.

" I do hope I'm not interrupting ... but" she shifted with her footsteps, where as she might have a sharp tongue to those she is in charge of, with Hiccup she spoke with respect, careful not to go above her station towards her boss. But Hiccup wasn't that kind of boss.

" what is it Luna?" He still had his arms wrapped around Astrid, keeping the warmth between them in the September breeze.

" it's your accountant, she's called four times in the past hour, she said it's important and for you to call her as soon as possible" she opened up one of the two large doors that welcomed them into the house. Taking Astrid's hand Hiccup guided them both into his home, past Luna who happily held the door open and into the main entrance of his home.

" I'll take the call in the den Luna," before he had even finished that sentence Luna was on her way to the den to get his accountant on the phone. Another reason why she was perfect, she knew what he was gonna ask even before he asked it.

Hiccup usually took important calls in the den, or his home office, as he liked to keep business separate from pleasure. The den was like a lounging area but more formal, only have one medium tv, mainly used for sports when Hiccup said his friends came over. The room was filled with bookcases, lounging seating areas and the odd rack of Hiccups favourite spirits.

Meanwhile as Luna went off, Astrid found herself greeted by the rest off the staff in hiccups household, ladies who dust and clean upstairs, gentlemen polishing the floors. But she was used to now, the first time she saw this she felt out of depth, but then she had gotten use to it, and found Hiccup wasn't like she thought at all. Sure he had paid people to clean his house and keep the house hold on check, but he works long hours too, and wouldn't be able to keep his household together.

But then on occasions he'd surprise her. Terri was Hiccup's chef, as usually Hiccup got in late hours at night he wouldn't have the energy to cook himself a fresh meal, but on the days he had off he'd ask Terri to take a day off work, as Hiccup was quite fond of cooking. She would know as in the past she'd watch him cook for the both of them.

And Toni was his grounds man, he had a huge garden as Hiccup loved to spend the majority of his time outside. Her first impression on thinking Hiccup wasn't a man to just stay behind a desk was right. He was a hands on boss, got himself dug in if he could. And that's why he loved his garden, he was an artist of course and for his quiet time he would paint and draw. But in the summer Hiccup did the occasional gardening, when she would spend time at his over the summer months, the two would spend most of the day in his back garden.

And then there was one of the most important beings in Hiccup's life, his dog. Toothless wasn't even one yet, he was a playful puppy, but a black lab, and the puppy size was underrated for this doggie, he was well on his way for a full grown dog. Bounding his way over to his owner and the blonde he'd come very fond off.

You'd hear his claws scraping along the tiled floor as he ran towards them, she was always giggle as even though he was running as fast as he could, he was keep stumbling and falling over his own legs.

" daft dog" Hiccup would greet him first, giving his a loving neck rub. He might tease about how the dog was costing him more than he was worth, but he loved toothless, you could tell if you just saw the two.

" hello cutie" that's what Astrid would call him. Cause when he looked at her he'd have these big hazel green eyes looking up at her, and she couldn't say no to him.

" why don't you take him into the kitchen, and I'll meet you in there after this call" he'd taken his burgundy suit jacket off when speaking, hanging it on the coat hook near the front door. He was wearing a black long sleeve shirt underneath and it hugged tight on his body, but not too tight, though Astrid couldn't complain.

" yeah sure, you want me to make you a drink?" She took her coat off too, revealing her red dress yet again.

" that'll be great" with a kiss on her cheek he left her to her own devices. She'd been on this house more times than she can remember. She knew where everything was, and what spots were her favourite spots in the house.

However it wasn't always like this, the first time she came here she was completely different, however she wasn't in the best of moods to start.

Xx

(Beginning of July 2020)

Ruff was back. Well not back for long, but after her grandmothers funeral she thought best to come back to the city and move all her stuff into the new space to distract her mainly.

It had been fun the first few days, Astrid didn't even know her friend was coming back till she barged through the front doors as if she'd never left.

" bitch get up we are going shopping!"

That day went from lounging around the apartment in her underwear to Ruff dragging her around every shop in Berk to get her 'starting final year wardrobe' but Astrid just thought it was another reason of distraction but that didn't matter to her, she was spending time with her best friend.

Now she was helping her unpack all her boxes, cause ruff literally has three times more than her.

" Ast pass me my sexy underwear box" yep, she had a box separately for her 'sexy underwear' that way she wouldn't get the two mixed up from her every day underwear to her favourite ones, well that's what she said anyway.

So she brought the box over, tiptoeing around all the shit that was on her floor. But as she placed the box down she noticed Ruffnut was just casually sat enjoying reading a magazine, Berks tabloid!

" oh you enjoy your magazine there, I'll just unpack YOUR boxes" kicking he friends legs to get her attention away from the magazine.

" I can't help it, if you saw what I was looking at you'd understand, this guy is up there with my Thor fantasy. Only this guy is basically in arms reach, he lives on Berk and he is practically swimming in money" well she was practically drooling over the image on her magazine. Astrid didn't know what went through her friends head sometimes.

" ewww don't tell me your drooling over some 50 year old man are you?" She joked as ruff hit her with the magazine.

" what do you take me as, some tramp? And no! This guy is one of the youngest richest guys in the Archipelago, and he was born and raised in Berk, on this soil. The Haddocks are like royalty here, they practically own the land we walk on, they go back to the Viking ages." The way she describes them Astrid could see these Haddocks were some kind of importance on this island. However how bad would it be if she explained that in the whole 2-3 years she's been here, she's never heard of a Haddock.

" who are the Haddocks anyway?" She sat on her friends bed and crossed her legs while Ruff stayed sat in the floor.

" oh I forgot you are a baby Berkian, but no one can blame you. The Haddocks have been one of the longest living families on Berk, they were like chiefs back in the Viking ages when they conquered this land. Now they basically own the land. But the thing about the Haddocks is they are in the public eye for like a few years and go off the face of the world for another few years. I haven't seen a Haddock in a magazine for about 3 or 4 years now, that's probably why you haven't heard much about them. However it's only become a thing when Hiccup Haddock took over the business, his parents were quite social people-" Astrid's ears shut off soon after she said his name. Hiccup! It's not a normal name, how common can a name like that be.

" I'm sorry, who?"

"Hiccup Haddock, CEO of the Biggest energy company in Berk" she flipped through her magazine till she found the page, passing it over to reveal the famous Hiccup Haddock. Her Hiccup.

The Hiccup who made her laugh, who flirted with her, who made butterflies go off in her stomach and the heat rise in her cheeks when he kissed her. He only asked her to be his girlfriend the other day, he was so nervous, a blabbering wreck, but he was hers.

Her Hiccup was a Haddock. Her Hiccup. A Haddock.

Multi Billionaire under the age of 30.

He lied to her.

All of a sudden she just got the urge to go see if it was real, and it was right there in black and white but she needed to see it with her own eyes. " you know, I just forgot, I need eggs" she threw the magazine back at Ruffnut, getting off the bed and went to walk out of the bedroom.

" eggs?"

Ruff ran after her, watching as she grabbed her bag and her keys. " err yeah, I won't be long," she didn't get chance to even finish, she was out the door and in the elevator before she could.

Xx

She knew where the Haddock energy inc was thanks to Ruffnut's magazine, taking the bus she found it was only a 10 minute journey. The bus pulled up literally outside the large high rise.

While on the Bus she finally did what she should of done from the start, researched her boyfriend. He'd taken over the business after his farther decided to retire 5 years ago. He was her age when he took over a company, 22 and he was worth billions, but about a year and a half after he got the job of CEO, Hiccup Haddock dropped off the face of the earth. There was no mention about him till a few days go when the article in Berks tabloid was published.

Getting off the bus and looking at the building in front of her, she wondered how he was gonna keep this from her. This grand lifestyle he had, how long was he willing to keep this from her. She felt like a fool, a fool to believe that it was perfect, that it was all real. She was gonna tell Ruff this week, excited that she'd have someone to share with her. And now she didn't know what to do.

But what she did release was that her feet weren't stopping, walking into the building and straight to the lifts past wondering eyes at front desk.

" shit!" She cursed herself for cursing when hundreds of men and women gave her the dirty look. But when she got to the lift she had about 30 odd floors to choose from and no idea which one Hiccup Haddock would be on.

" excuse me" she turned to a voice that was directed to her, a lady who looked to be in her 30's approached her. Her dark black hair was scraped back into a low bun, and she was wearing a navy blue ladies suit. " you look like you could do with some help" her smile was warming, greeting.

" err yes, I'm looking for a Hiccup Haddock, I just don't know which floor" for a second she thought she stuffed it up, no way would she be able to get to the bosses office.

" ah you must be here for the Personal Assistant job, you'll need floor 31 for that," she walked past her and pressed the button on the elevator. " once you get to floor 31 you'll need to follow the sign posts for the 'PA job' and you'll be guided straight to Mr Haddocks office" the lift doors open with a ping.

" okay thank you" walking into the elevator and pressing on the floor 31, she had no clue how she got away with it but at that moment she didn't care. She was on a mission to Mr Haddocks office.

The doors opened on floor 31, and right as she stepped out she noticed a big sign post showing the direction of the PA job. She followed the signs till she entered a wide hall way, there on the side were seating areas, ladies and gentleman all ages sat there waiting, with people entering and leaving the door at the end. She made a bet that's the office of Hiccup Haddock.

But she wasn't hanging round to find out, she stormed past the waiting men and women not listening about the complaints they made. And no one was stopping her, not even the strawberry blonde that stood by the door.

" err excuse me?" She ignored her and walked through the doors, " you can't just walk in there!"

She barged through the doors, walking into the office of the famous Mr Haddock. And there he was, in a suit, sat at his desk, interviewing a girl who looked her age, her long braided hair was wrapped in a top bun, she turned to look who it was that barged in. She was flawless, her coco skin was evenly perfect, she didn't have one blemish. Course she was beautiful, but right now she focused her eyes on Hiccup, as he stood up from his chair, his face a picture.

" I just had to see it with my own eyes" and now she had, she didn't care for an explanation, her eyes were filling up and she would let hell freeze over before she let her tears fall. " I'll leave you to it" and she left, pushing past the strawberry blonde and into the hallway again.

Meanwhile Hiccup was speechless, till the moment she left she office and his legs started to work again. " Astrid wait!" He started running, but pulled the girl by the door before leaving.

" Angie cancel all my meetings today, I'll deal with everything tomorrow, send my apologies." He left without another word, leaving a mess for Angie to deal with. But he had a blonde to catch, and when he did, he caught her just in time to get her alone in the elevator.

" oh for fuck sake" she cursed under her breath, as he pressed the stall button on the lift to make it come to a halt. " you can't just do that?" Knowing he's probably starting a fuss for nothing.

" it's my building, but you know that don't you?" She could look him, she was furious to say the least. " Astrid please just let me explain?" He edged closer like he would when he was about to kiss her, but she pushed back, her rage getting the best of her.

" no! You lied to me, how long were you thinking of keeping this from me?" He let her have her space, thinking it would make it harder if he stressed her out more.

" just let me explain? Please" he knew he only had himself to blame, he planned to keep that part of him quiet for a while, but he did eventually plan on telling her.

" why should I?" She didn't want to think to she could trust him, but hearing him talk she was lured into his trance.

" because you know me, you know what you mean to me, please Astrid, just give me the rest of the day to explain and by the end of it if you don't believe me then you'll never see or hear from me again. I promise." To trust or not to trust, that's the question. And if she says no she could be giving up this good thing she had with a guy she really, really liked.

" okay" the word left her mouth before she had time to think about it, but it was her instinct to trust him. And she did in that moment.

He pressed the button to un pause the lift, and pressed the button to go down to the underground parking lot.

" don't you have meetings or interviews today?" She asked, knowing he'd probably just left a load of men and women confused and probably angry.

" yes, but they can wait. The thought of losing you can't" and there it was again, that look that she knew was real, he was literally opening up to her with just one look. And the fact that her stomach was going flips didn't help either.

Xx

She'd been in his car before. It was a black Audi R8 but she hadn't felt this uncomfortable before. They had drove 20 minutes out of the city, they were literally driving through fields and woods. Berk as an island was small to most countries, but once you've left the city you forget how big it actually is, the city was south of the island with the docks and airport at arms reach. Up north was the Berkian mountains, known for a ski resort in the winter months. She knew that on both the west and east side of the island were small housing areas and towns, East town and West town, the richest of them all usually could afford on the west. However looking at the map in Hiccup's car they were in the middle of the island, which is usually fill with open land and trees. So where Hiccup was taking her she wasn't sure. But deep down, her instinct told her to trust him.

They hadn't spoke a word since leaving the city when she asked where they were going and he replied with "you'll see" so she just watched through her window, the sky was blue with the odd cloud, the sun shining through the trees. And the breeze making the trees dance, she was entranced by it.

She noticed a sign coming up, driving past it she saw the words ' The Cove 250 yards' with an arrow pointing left. Before she had time to think what a cove was, Hiccup was indicating left, turning off the main road and going down this stone dirt path that was soon going down hill.

They were entering a cove, with a lake and waterfall in the far right. But coming up straight ahead, slightly to the left was a house. Well not a house exactly. Boarded off with large oak trees and a stone wall was this three story Mansion, the stone path they were on was now turning into a proper drive, they were coming up to the wooden gates that, with a quick key code from Hiccup, automatically opened. It was then she let out the gasp of air she was containing, she knew he was a multi Billionaire by reading the magazine, but just seeing it made it feel more real, and more out of depth. Her Hiccup was completely out of her depth.

His car pulled up under an arch way, blocking them from the sun, his big double doors starting at her. She couldn't do it? Maybe she should just leave? Was uber even valid here? They looked to be in the middle of nowhere.

" hey? You okay?"

She looked back at Hiccup who turned his engine off, and looking into his warming green eyes, she suddenly felt fine again.

" yeah, I'm good" she got out the car herself, looking at the home in front of her. She still couldn't get round how this is where Hiccup lives.

" come on, I'll get us a drink and then we can talk" guiding her into his home with a hand on her lower back, she left less worried. The doors opened and she was treated with a large welcoming grand entrance.

And a little black Labrador puppy, who looked to be only a few weeks old. The puppy bounded his way over, yapping and skidding along the tiled floor.

" who's this little cutie?" She dropped to the floor, greeting the puppy with loves.

" that's toothless, he's only 10 weeks" he too dropped to the floor beside her, petting the puppy with her. His hand would occasionally touch hers and it brought them back to the reality of why they were here.

" come on, I'll show you to the living room" he grand entrance of Hiccups home was presented by two staircases gradually connected at the top where the second level of his house was. In between the middle of his stair case was a hall way, he guided through there under the stair case. At the end of the hall was long bi-fold doors that would lead outside, before they made a turn for either left or right, a small lady came from the right. Looking where she had came from Astrid could see the making of a kitchen, which would mean his kitchen was at the right.

" Mr Haddock?" The lady had an accent of some sort, Astrid hadn't heard one like it.

" ahh Luna, would it be too much to ask if me and my friend could have some coffee in the living room?" He was so polite to someone Astrid reckoned was under his payroll.

" of course, how do you take your coffee miss?" Luna's question was directed to her.

"Oh, err" she didn't know what to say, sure she's ordered coffee from cafes and restaurants but, someone making you a drink you weren't paying for, she didn't know what to say. But Hiccup did.

" Astrid likes her coffee strong with a dash milk, no sugar. And I'll have my normal please" Luna smiles and walked off, not saying another word after.

" come" he guided her to the right, the little black puppy running along side them. They entered a large living room, a huge tv on the back wall with a horse shoe looked sofa in front of it, to the left in the room was a smaller sleeping area for maybe reading or having a drink, she didn't know.

He brought her around his sofa and the two took their seats, but the tv was left off and the silence surrounded them. The only noise was made by the puppy who barked for his owner to let him up.

" Alright you daft dog" he scooped up the puppy with ease and let the puppy rest on his lap, not seeming to care for the suit pants he was wearing.

While waiting for the coffees she thought it best to ease them into conversation, " I didn't know you had a dog? Never mind this cutie"

" to be honest I only got him 2 days ago," that changed her mind about him being a total ass a little, from thinking he was keeping something so small as a dog from her, but for the past two days she had been the one who'd been keeping her distance since her friend got back. " I was gonna tell you but you were busy with your friend and after what you told me about her grandmother I thought I'd leave you to be with your friend. And I was on my phone the other night, scrolling and I saw this ad, a mother was throw on the streets cause the owners didn't want to deal with a pregnant dog, she gave birth while on the streets to 5 pups, but the mother died and so did 4 of the pups before a dog rescue found them, toothless was the only one left, I couldn't say no" he kissed the puppy all over, she could see he loved this dog.

" well I'm happy he's got you" her smile was genuine, but when the coffees arrived it was time to face facts. They needed to talk what was gonna happen next, they were boyfriend and girlfriend and in reality they didn't know enough about one another, and it was time to open up.

" look Astrid, I know you are pissed with me, I know, can you just let me explain first before you run off?" She nodded but she knew if he started bull shitting her she was out that door and she didn't care if she had to walk back to the city.

" I was going to tell you, of course I was, I just asked to to be my girlfriend I don't take that lightly. But then your friend arrived and I wanted to give you space and so I didn't have time to give you the ins and outs of my life." She could see where he was coming from, the inconvenience of her friend coming back did make it hard for them to talk, but she still didn't understand though.

" why didn't you tell me before, we've known each other now for what? Nearly two months? Why couldn't you tell me this then?" Was it trust? Did he not trust her? But then again she didn't trust him with a few of her details of her past.

" because 5 years ago when I got this job, my life was being thrown upside down. I had suddenly all these girls interested in me, throwing themselves at me, I didn't know what was real or not, they wanted gifts, cars, clothes, the best restaurants etc. And after one girl I'd been seeing went one step too far, about 3 and a half years ago I decided to go radio silent. And then you turned up in my life, this beautiful, stunning girl. And was actually interested in me. You didn't know who I was, it was a fresh start, and I could just be me for a change" she hadn't thought about it in that way, if you had all this money, and all this press, who could you trust for who just wanted to be with you for what you could give them. And she was feeling kinda stupid for jumping to conclusions, however her trust issues were very high on the scale for never trusting anyone.

She found herself leaning over and grabbing one of his hands, giving a firm squeeze and rubbing it with her thumb, she was selfish, she knew that now.

" I'm sorry, I didn't think about that, I do have the tendency to just jump to conclusions "

She felt him squeeze his hand back, feeling like an idiot for barging into his office, making a fool of herself and him. Not to mention she'd be lucky if she didn't ruin a good relationship with him. But he opened up to her, now it was time for her to open up about some of her own truths.

" Hiccup?" He looked at her, ready to listen, " I haven't exactly been completely honest with you, and it seems only fair to open up when you have to me" she saw him nod, he was ready to listen to her like she listened to him.

" I haven't exactly had an easy run. My parents died, I was 15, it was a car accident and I was at my mates. After they died I had no family, no grandparents no aunts or uncles, so I was put in foster care. I didn't last two months. My foster parents weren't exactly parental types, I was in an all girls home. The women was an addict and the man - he," she took a pause, his eyes were locked on hers, he wasn't missing one piece of this.

" He abused the girls in his care, sexually... One night he came into my room, I was asleep, I remember waking up to find he had pushed my covers back and he was feeling me under my clothes. I freaked, bashed his head in with a lamp and ran" she was gonna carry on, but stopped when it was Hiccups turn to now grab her hands, rubbing them slightly.

" did you report him?" She'd often wondered why she didn't, but there was that one reason why.

" no, but I was 15, an orphan, I didn't trust anyone, the foster system put me with an abuser. I only trusted myself. So - I became homeless" she watched his face turn to horror, she hadn't told anyone she was once homeless, ever. And it isn't exactly something she's proud of.

" how? You were 15 surely-?" He was right, by law a 15 year old shouldn't become homeless, but she was good at hiding, and once she hit 18 the system didn't care.

" I was good at hiding for 3 years"

" 3 years! You were homeless for 3 years!" This was the reason she kept that side of herself to herself, she knew people would act different around her.

" I was homeless for 5 years Hiccup, I've only had a home while living at uni" she saw his body stiffen, he was in shock, she didn't blame him. But then he shifted, knocking the puppy to jump off the sofa, he pulled her towards him, embracing her with a warm hug.

" 5 years!?"

His whisper sounded haunted, and she could feel his grip getting tighter around her. He'd never expected her to tell him something like this when she said she was opening up.

" how? How - how did you end up going to university after fi- so many year being homeless?" That was the big question, she herself was trying to figure out how she ended up in University, she knew how, she just didn't know the why.

" well that's it? I'm actually not sure." He pulled back from their embrace, still close to her, but looking her in the eyes. " when I left my foster home that night, I only had time to grab one thing, my bag. My Mother's camera was in there, and I couldn't leave without it, it's the last thing I had to remember her, so while homeless I used to take pictures of what homeless living was like, I used hide it under this big coat I robbed. After 4 and a half years, I got some money saved up from begging, enough to have them printed so I could sell them. Didn't have much luck at first, no one seemed to chuffed in buying pictures from a homeless girl, but then this man came, he was tall, wore a long black coat and black sunglasses, he looked something of an agent of some kind. Thought he was gonna arrest me. But instead he held out an envelope, inside was a note and cheque, for 30,000. The note basically said that a Mr GH wanted to sponsor me to take a university course, he'd pay for my three years in course, 30,000 each year for rent, food, supplies if I went to the University of Berk, that was the one condition. I thought it was joke at first, but I went to a bank to check it out and it was legit. I later found out that my parents had left me a bank account in their will, with some money, but that was only to be collected after I turned 18 and I wasn't exactly in the loop at 18. So here I am, a mysterious benefactor pay my way through uni. And I'm also putting a lot of money side for after uni, to get a place, but that's my weird, unusual story"

She shrugged it off like was nothing, cause to her it was her life, that's what she had to deal with, but Hiccup still couldn't get his head around it, he would never had thought that she'd have been homeless 2 years ago, give or take. He was still close to her, not know knowing what to say, he scraped a piece of hair from her face and behind her ear. He only stopped when she spoke.

" we come from two separate parts of the world you and me" he knew where she was getting at, basically saying someone like her and someone like him were not compatible. But then again he wasn't compatible to most things.

He moved her onto his lap, she didn't stop him but questioned his motive with facial expressions.

" maybe we do come from separate parts," he said before she could question him. " but that doesn't stop how I feel about you Astrid" he touched her face yet again, cupping the side of her jaw.

" and how do you feel about me Hiccup?" Feeling his breath of her face, her cheeks were burning up, the two couldn't breath properly with their nerves, he was so close all she had to do was lean forward.

" I'm falling in love with you, Miss Hofferson, and I don't fall in love easily" he smiled and it only made her cheeks burn more, she was frozen, unable to lean forward or pull back.

" you are?" She let out a gasp as one of his hands moved to her waist, her heart was beating, and so was his.

" yes" he pulled her slightly closer, his way of asking if he could kiss her like he usually would. And she finally had the strength to move again, crashing down on his lips and grabbing on his hair, suddenly all the nerves just lifted away, all the anger was gone, and they were just Hiccup and Astrid again.

" so," Hiccup pulled back, while she groaned at the absence of his lips, " you think you can get over the fact that I live the life that I do?" Cause that was the main question, Hiccup had made it clear he cared not from where Astrid had come from, he was falling for who she was now, and honestly she was still falling for the guy she met in the coffee house, even if she found out he was a little out of her depth.

" I think if you can get over the fact I was homeless, I can get over the fact you live - like this" she looked around the hinge living room, it was probably as big as her apartment alone, but then she could judge him by what he did for a living, he was still the same old Hiccup, the one who put a smile on her face.

When she looked down he was grinning at her, drawing her in , pressing their lips and bodies together as their arms wrapped around one another. A giggle escaped his lips as she pushed his further down onto the sofa.

He was still her Hiccup, no matter what. And she was still his Astrid.

Cause there can't be a Hiccup without an Astrid.
