Hobbit Day Tribute
Lindir placed the eleventy-second candle on the cake. He stepped back to examine his work.
The cake was a little small to be holding all those candles, but it was too late to change the size now.
The elves (and Aragorn) around him applauded.
Erestor scowled. He didn't know how to smile.
'Lovely,' said Aragorn. 'Now we just need to get Mr. Baggins out here.'
Arwen was trying to cuddle Aragorn, but Elrond was throwing her angry glances.
Legolas was pulling Aragorn away from her. He wanted to practice throwing knives around him.
Erestor was trying to hide in Glorfindel's large cloak. He hated crowds, especially happy ones.
Meludir was praising his brother's cake. Galion had already passed out on Dorwinion.
Elrond looked west. 'If only Celebrían we're here.' He said wistfully.
Everyone got annoyed. He always had to dampen their spirits at a party.
'Who's going to call Bilbo out?' Asked Glorfindel. Everyone ignored him.
'How am I going to light all the candles without melting the cake?' Lindir asked Meludir.
'Elladan and Elrohir can help.' Elrond said. Elladan rolled his eyes.
'I'm braiding Elrohir's hair!' He said.
None of them had ever thrown a birthday party before.
'I don't care! Do as I say!'
Elladan pulled Elrohirs hair so Elrond would know that he was mad.
'Ow Elladan! I'm never letting you braid my hair again!'
Lindir handed them some matches, or whatever they used to light candles back in the day.
Meludir and Lindir started on one side and the twins started on the other.
'Come help, Estel!' Elrohir said. They were barely getting anywhere.
Aragorn scowled. Arwen and Legolas were fighting over him. 'I'm a bit tied up at the moment.' He said.
Glorfindel was about to go help, but Erestor was still clinging to his cloak. He shrugged.
'Where's Mags?' Asked Aragorn. 'He can help.'
'Who just called me Mags?' Maglor said, stepping out of a dark corner. He hated crowds even more than Erestor.
'Father! Come help light the candles please!' Elrond said.
Maglor rolled his eyes. 'Fine. But I'm not your real father.'
Elrond gasped. 'What!?'
After a few minutes, they had finally lit all one-hundred and twelve candles.
'Who's going to call Bilbo out?' Glorfindel asked again.
'Whoever is had better hurry!' Lindir said. 'My cake is going to melt!'
'I will!' Erestor volunteered, popping out from behind Glorfindel.
'Ha! No you won't!' Glorfindel said pushing him back. 'You just want an excuse to leave!'
'You go Lindir.' Said Elrond.
'No! I'm not leaving my cake with you heathens!'
In the end, Aragorn decided to go. Legolas and Arwen were still clinging to him while clawing at each other as he dragged them along.
Several minutes later, they came back. Aragorn was practically dragging Bilbo down the stairs.
'He wouldn't come so I had to force him.' Aragorn said.
'Surprise!' Said a couple of the elves.
'A birthday party!' Said Bilbo.
'Sick right?' Said Meludir.
Right then Gildor and Galdor walked in. 'Are we late?'
'No not really.' Said Elrond.
Everyone sat down. Lindir was about to cut the cake, but he realized it had melted.
'My cake!' Lindir sobbed.
Meludir gave him a hug.
Aragorn threw his pack on the table. 'We can just eat Lembas. I stole it from Lothlórien a few weeks ago.'
Legolas laughed. Arwen looked shocked.
'From my granny?'
Aragorn nodded. Elrond shrugged.
'Wait!' Lindir said. 'I'll put icing on it!'
So they had frosted lembas for Bilbo's birthday.
