A Sleepwalking Soldier: The Morning After!
Chapter One: Midnight Pancakes!
"…What a weird dream…" Mukuro groaned as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. "Why did I dream about being bonked on the head over and over…?"
"Maybe you dreamed of Mom and Dad dropping you on your head as a baby!"
Mukuro glanced to the side and saw Junko standing at her bedside. The Ultimate Fashionista grinned as her hands rested on her hips.
"Oh…good morning, Junko…" Mukuro yawned.
"Mornin'." Junko returned before she ordered "Alright, if you're done dreaming, then hurry up and get dressed. I'm starving!"
Mukuro nodded and walked over to their shared closet before she pulled out her school uniform. Without another word, she walked over to the bathroom and shut the door, leaving Junko to wait as her partner in crime showered.
"Hey, Mukuro!"
Mukuro turned her head as her eyes laser focused on the happy Makoto who was waving cheerfully at her.
"Makoto." She greeted as she and Junko walked over to the table he was sitting at. "Kirigiri." She greeted with neutrality as Makoto's girlfriend nodded at her.
She watched Makoto stuff a brownie into his mouth before he told her "Mm…Thanks…for the brownies, Mukuro!"
Brownies?! I don't remember giving him brownies… She turned to her sister, who shrugged in false ignorance.
"Indeed, I had no idea you could bake so well, Ikusaba." Kyoko complimented as she much more politely nibbled on a brownie, stirring feelings of jealousy within the Ultimate Soldier's heart.
Before she could dwell on it, Kyoko glared at her boyfriend and scolded gently "Makoto, you know you shouldn't talk with your mouth full."
Makoto swallowed his brownie and grinned playfully as he retorted "Yes, Mom…"
Kyoko sighed before she extended a hand and offered "Well, these brownies aren't going to eat themselves. Why don't you two join us; you did bake them, after all."
"Yum!" Junko cheered as she tugged Mukuro to sit across from the Luckster and Detective. "Mm!" She moaned as she grabbed a brownie and chewed on it. "I dunno if you actually made them Muku, but these are delicious! If you did make them, maybe you're not so useless after all."
Both despair sisters missed Makoto's momentary scowl as Mukuro nodded "Y…yes, Junko…" Mukuro before she hesitantly took a brownie and bit into it. Mm, it does taste good. But did I really make these? And how did Makoto get them if I did?
"Hey, don't be so down!" Junko ordered as she saw Mukuro's concerned frown while they slipped under the sheets. "If you're worried about where those brownies came from, it's not worth it."
Mukuro hesitantly nodded, then yawned "Y…yes, Junko."
Alright, so the Melatonin I snuck into her dinner tonight is finally taking effect! Soon Mukuro's gonna be out like a light! Junko held back the urge to giggle before she ordered "Alright, let's get some shut-eye. You look pretty drowsy."
"…Yes…you're right…good…good night, Junko…" Mukuro yawned as she closed her eyes and fell to slumber.
With one last grin, Junko settled under the covers and closed her eyes, resting while keeping an ear open for any signs of movement from Mukuro.
Alright, it's only a matter of time before my plan takes effect!
"…Makoto…"
Junko's drowsiness dissipated as she heard Mukuro mumbling.
"…Did…you enjoy my…brownies…? I…made them…just for you…"
Junko quietly turned on her side to see Mukuro out like a light, muttering in her sleep. The Ultimate Fashionista grinned as she realized that her hastily crafted plan was about to begin. She leaned over to the sleeping Mukuro and began to whisper in her ear.
"That's right, Muku. Makoto loved your brownies, that's why he was stuffing his face with them like a glutton. I bet he's starting to notice you and not that detective Kirigiri." Junko almost felt her heart warm at Mukuro's smile before she continued "But she still has him wrapped around her gloved finger; you need to try harder to break her spell, Muku."
Mukuro's smile drooped into a despairful frown as she mumbled "But…what should…I do, Junko-chan?"
Junko grinned like a cheshire cat as she replied "It's a simple, sweet solution, Muku. Just bake more food for him."
"Bake…more…?"
"Yep, but this time, make some flapjacks, you know, pancakes. Makoto told me one time he loves his mom's chocolate chip pancakes. So if you make him something that reminds him of his mom, he's sure to be all yours, Muku! Just make sure to add chocolate chips into it."
Mukuro sleepily nodded before falling into slumber, her snoring echoing in Junko's ears.
Three, Two, One…
As if on cue, Mukuro swung her legs over the bed and planted her feet on the floor. With a sleepy yawn, she stood up, mumbling in her sleep.
"…Pancakes…Pancakes are the answer…"
…She actually believes it… Junko thought in slight amazement as she sweatdropped. I can't believe she ate that up…
Junko's thoughts were interrupted by Mukuro's sleeptalking as she mumbled "…Makoto…loves sweets…so pancakes…must be his favorite breakfast. I'll make him so many pancakes…he'll dump Kirigiri and fall in love with me…thank you, Junko…"
"Don't mention it…oh, and don't forget the chocolate chips, Muku!"
"…Chocolate chips…" Mukuro mumbled as she shuffled towards the door.
Junko watched as her sister opened it and wandered out into the hallway, grinning as she contemplated "Hm, I wonder…will she do something in her sleep to embarrass herself, or maybe she'll finally start a kitchen fire! Oh, even better, what if I…"
The gears turned in Junko's head as she giggled and slipped into her slippers before following Mukuro into the hallway, eager to put her last-minute plan into motion.
Mou, I can't believe my useless sister hasn't started a single kitchen fire tonight either! Does her competence go through the roof when she's asleep?! Junko wondered as she saw Mukuro effortlessly flip a pancake from the frying pan onto a plate. Geez, I'm feeling despair from the lack of despair! Though… Junko smirked as she mused …I could use this chance to mess with her.
Now on a mission, Junko walked right past her sleeping sister and to a cabinet. Once opened, she reached inside and pulled out a jar of grape jelly. She then walked to a nearby drawer and pulled it out before taking a small butterknife.
"Hey, Muku! Stop cooking for a minute and come over here!"
Mukuro mumbled unintelligibly before walking away from the stove and over to her grinning sister.
"Here, hold this jar of grape jelly and open it so I can spread it on your hair like toast."
Mukuro sleepily nodded, accepting the jar and removing the lid. Mukuro didn't even flinching as Junko scooped some out on the butterknife and spread it all over Mukuro's black bob cut.
"Hm…it's missing something…oh, I've got it!" Junko exclaimed as she walked over to the counter to a bread bag.
After opening it, she took out a single slice of white bread and held it over Mukuro's head. She then forcefully tore the bread into crumbs before letting them fall onto Mukuro's head, sinking into the jelly-coated locks.
"There, now you have a tasty treat of your own!" Junko exclaimed, causing Mukuro to smile.
"…Thanks…Junko…"
"Oh, one more thing!" Junko exclaimed before she ran to the stove and grabbed the open bag of chocolate chips.
She then ran to the fridge and grabbed a can of whipped cream before removing the top and running back to Mukuro. She then carefully poured a modest amount of chocolate chips onto Mukuro's hair before aiming the whipped cream can downwards and pressing down on the nozzle. The cream flowed out as Junko circled her hand around Mukuro's head, giving her a whipped cream hat.
"Alright, give me your feet." Mukuro lifted one foot at a time, allowing Junko to spray some whipped cream on each sole before Junko hummed "Hmm…there's something missing…wait, I know!"
Junko ran back to the fridge and put the whipped cream back before taking a single cherry from a bowl. She then ran back and placed the cherry on top of the whipped cream before taking the butterknife out of the jar of jelly. With a satisfied smirk, she lathered Mukuro's cheeks and the tips of her nose with the grape-flavored substance.
"Hmm…let's see…something's still missing…wait!" Junko exclaimed before she ran to the open bread bag.
She took out a slice before she tore it into crumbs in her hands. She then ran back to Mukuro and rubbed them into her cheeks. She then ran back to the cabinet and took out a cinnamon shaker before running back and sprinkling some on top of Mukuro's head.
"Alright, hold out your arms for me." Junko commanded before Mukuro obeyed.
She then scooped some jam out of the jar before spreading it all over Mukuro's arms and hands. Junko grinned before she sighed and clapped her hands.
"Alright, fun's over. Get back to making your future boyfriend his pancakes."
Mukuro nodded sleepily before she turned around and walked back to the stove, drops of jelly and bread crumbs dripping from her hair with each step.
*Knock Knock*
The door opened to reveal a half-asleep Makoto, who yawned as he took in the sight of a sleeping Mukuro holding a plate of chocolate chip pancakes topped with banana slices, whipped cream, and a cherry, flanked by Junko who smiled and waved.
"Mukuro? Junko?"
Junko grinned and explained "Hiiiiii! I know it's still a couple hours before breakfast, but Muku here wanted to give you these pancakes she made."
"Pan…pancakes?" Makoto sniffed their delicious scent, then smiled as his mouth watered before exclaiming "They look delicious! Thanks, Muku…huh?"
Both Makoto and Junko stared in confusion as Mukuro suddenly turned away, holding the plate of pancakes just out of reach.
"Mukuro?" Makoto turned to Junko and asked suspiciously "Junko, is this another one of your pranks?"
"Hey, for once this wasn't my idea!" Junko defended, insulted by his accusation.
"Then why is Mukuro's face covered in jelly, whipped cream, and bread crumbs?" Makoto asked suspiciously. "I know she didn't do that herself."
"Okay, fine, that was me, but the rest was all her. Hey, Muku, where are you going?!" She exclaimed as Mukuro walked down the hallway and away from them. "What's gotten into her?"
"I dunno, but I'm gonna find out. Mukuro, come back!" Makoto exclaimed as he walked after the Ultimate Soldier.
"Hey, Luck Boy! Wait up!" Junko called before she gave chase.
