A Sleepwalking Soldier: The Morning After!
Chapter Two: A Private Breakfast!
Barely a sound was heard as Mukuro walked through the halls, still asleep as a bewildered Junko and a still drowsy Makoto gave chase. The nostalgic scent of chocolate chip pancakes kept Makoto alert as Junko's brow furrowed.
I don't understand. Why is Muku playing keep-away with the pancakes she made for Luck Boy?! This isn't making any sense!
Shaking the thought away for further analysis once they were all back in their own beds, Junko followed the curious Makoto as they followed the scent of chocolate and grape through the halls of Hope's Peak Academy.
Makoto stood, his jaw hanging as he saw Mukuro place the plate of pancakes on the floor in the Game Room. Junko watched with curiosity as Mukuro gestured to a nearby chair.
"Your pancakes, Makoto."
Mukuro… Makoto thought, forgetting that they had just spent a good ten minutes chasing after the sleeping soldier. You didn't have to do all this, I would have made my own pancakes if I wanted them so badly! They do smell good though, and I am a little tired…
With a shrug, Makoto walked over to the chair and sat down. Mukuro at last handed him the plate and silverware before he began to eat the early breakfast.
"Mm, this is so good!" Makoto drowsily gushed, his mouth still full.
"I'm glad you like them, Makoto. Shitsureishimasu." Mukuro bowed before she turned around and walked out of the Game Room, leaving Junko to watch curiously as she wondered where her sister was going.
*Ding Dong!*
The door opened, revealing a drowsy Kyoko who mumbled "What is it…it's too early in the morning for…AH!"
A now wide-awake Kyoko ripped the pancake from her face and tossed it aside before she looked down at her feet and saw another pancake just a couple feet away.
"What the…Ikusaba…?"
"You…don't deserve…such a kind boyfriend, Kirigiri. He'll be mine soon…thanks to the power of chocolate chip pancakes. You'll lose him to me…and I'll break your…spell on him…purple bitch…"
…What was that all about…? Kyoko wondered, still dazed from the encounter. Why did Mukuro slap me with a pancake? And why was she covered in jam, whipped cream, and bread crumbs? Whatever it was, if she's after Makoto, I need to stop her…
She closed her eyes and flashed back to the encounter, focusing on the brief glimpse of Mukuro's closed eyes.
…No, she was obviously sleepwalking; that would explain her slurred speech. She probably just had some crazy dream. But…if she does try to do anything to Makoto in her current state…I have to go after her, if only as a precaution.
With one last yawn, Kyoko stealthily crept after Mukuro, the sleeping soldier unaware of the detective investigating her.
*Whoosh!*
Kyoko's eyes widened as she barely ducked Mukuro's swing, the motion of the frying pan in her hands causing a light breeze to blow over Kyoko's face.
Damn, guess tailing her in her sleep was a bad idea. She has no restraint in this shape!
Kyoko began to panic as Mukuro stumbled towards her, effectively a zombie as she narrowly avoided Mukuro's swings.
"Mukuro, wake up!" Kyoko hollered in desperation, only for Mukuro to lumber even further towards her, grip tightened around the handle of the frying pan.
"…No…I have to free Makoto…from your spell…you siren…"
Siren? I had a feeling she had an attraction to Makoto, but I didn't think it was strong enough for her to want to whack me in her sleep! I can't fight seriously knowing that she's unaware of her actions…
"Ikusaba, I don't know what you're talking about!" Kyoko tried to reason. "I did nothing to unfairly influence Makoto's feelings, and I haven't wronged you in any way…"
"…You ate one of…Makoto's brownies that morning…like you were…allowed to eat them…they're oly for him…you evil siren…taste…my revenge!"
That's what this is about? Just because I ate one of the brownies she made for Makoto? I guess I shouldn't be that surprised; she did seem to admire Makoto from afar. I guess her repressed affections and jealousy are taking center stage now that she can't control them… "AH!"
Kyoko lost her balance, falling backwards as Mukuro tripped over the hem of the detective's nightgown nightgown and fell on top of her, accidentally swinging the frying pan down again. Kyoko barely missed the pan, only to go flying into the kitchen wall as Mukuro roundhouse kicked her. As a sense of wooziness overcame Kyoko, Mukuro stumbled over to her and whacked Kyoko over the head with the frying pan.
"…Fall…you villainous harpie…"
Kyoko felt everything go black as the cooking instrument made contact with her cranium. With a final groan, Kyoko lost consciousness, closing her eyes as Mukuro lethargically got up.
"Gotta…get these pancakes…to Junko…and pick up…Monokuma…" Mukuro muttered sleepily as she left Kyoko on the floor and dropped the frying pan.
She walked over to the counter and retrieved the plates of pancakes, stacking them on top of each other before she turned around and walked out of the kitchen.
"Justice has been…served…you siren…"
Makoto and Junko turned their heads to see Mukuro, her hair covered in a red sheen of strawberry jam. In one hand were three plates stacked with pancakes, bacon, and banana slices, perfectly balanced on top of each other. In the other hand was a Monokuma plushie, catching Junko's attention as Makoto was just confused.
"Ano…Mukuro…what's that?" Makoto asked in a fatigued voice.
Oblivious to her crush's confusion, Mukuro merely stumbled over to her sister and brought the stack of plates in reach.
"…Junko…" She slurred as Junko took the plate and began eating, deciding to go along with Mukuro's antics.
As she bit into her pancakes, Junko watched curiously as Mukuro walked over to a nearby chair and placed the Monokuma plushie on top of it.
"…Mono…kuma…" She slurred as she placed the plate in front of Monokuma before it comically tipped over, its nose buried in the syrupy pancakes.
Junko sweatdropped before Mukuro shuffled over to the chair between Makoto and Junko and plopped down in it.
"Please…enjoy the meal…"
An awkward silence passed, during which Makoto yawned and Junko grinned, the gears turning in her head as she leaned over in Mukuro's ear.
"Hey Muku, sit between me and Monokuma. Luck Boy looks like he's almost asleep anyway."
Mukuro mumbled unintelligibly as she stood up and walked to the chair between Junko and Monokuma, plopping down before eating her pancakes again.
"Ah, well done, peasant!" Junko complimented in her royal persona as she placed her plate on the floor. "Take us back to our quarters now!"
Mukuro nodded as she walked over to Makoto, confusing Junko as she hauled the snoozing luckster over her shoulder. Before Junko could inquire what was wrong, Mukuro walked back over and wrapped her arm around Junko's waist.
Oh, she must have interpreted that as me and Luck Boy… Junko realized as she was hauled over Mukuro's free shoulder and carried out of the room. As she was carried through the hallway, Junko glanced at Makoto's sleeping face just inches away from her.
Upupupupu…oh it would give Muku so much despair if I smooched you right now…too bad she's not awake to feel it, so you have been spared. She then looked down and her face wretched in disgust as she thought Ugh, now I've got Muku's strawberry jelly on my nightgown! Junko sighed and lamented Well, at least going to bed with sticky pajamas is slightly despair-inducing, so until the Killing School Life, I'll take what I can get.
She glanced over at Makoto's peaceful face and sighed.
Too bad you're not even awake to feel the despair of having sticky jelly pajamas, Luck Boy.
As Mukuro entered her room, she walked over to the bed and placed both Makoto and Junko on the sheets.
"Thank you, peasant. Now, eat your treat we graciously made for you!"
Without another word, Mukuro began to lick the jelly off her arms and hands. Once they were clean, she scooped the whipped cream, bread crumb, and jam mixture off her head with her fingers little by little, slurping the treats off her fingers and savoring the taste. Once her head was mostly clean, she moved to the bed, only to be stopped by Junko's hand on her shoulder.
"Peasant, do you really think that your boytoy will be happy to sleep next to someone so sticky? We sure wouldn't be. We command you to go take a shower!"
"…Yes…Junko…" Mukuro muttered as she stumbled over to the bathroom and closed the door, leaving Junko and Makoto alone.
Makoto snoozed happily in bed, blissfully unaware of the Ultimate Fashionista sharing the very bed as Mukuro finished tucking her in. Mukuro yawned as she crawled between them and slipped under the covers, the three of them fitting snugly on the bed as she wrapped her arms around them.
"…Mmm…Muku…" Junko groaned in her slumber. "Go get Monokuma later, he didn't finish his breakfast…"
"…Yes, Junko…" Mukuro yawned one last time before completely surrendering to slumber, surrounded by the two most important people in her life.
Kyoko grumbled as she scrubbed the floor, nursing her aching head with one hand. When the class came into the dining hall and saw the mess, the still dazed Kyoko tried to explain what happened, only for nobody to believe her. Even her beloved Makoto thought she had dreamt the whole thing and hit her head rolling out of bed. Any further argument and debate ended as Taka handed her a sponge and bucket and told her to accept responsibility for her mess.
I know what I saw… Kyoko grumbled mentally before she snuck a peek in the dining hall through the opening in the wall.
Jealousy flared in her heart as she saw Makoto talking and laughing with the Ultimate Soldier herself as they shared a late of pancakes. As Mukuro glanced in Kyoko's direction and smirked, Kyoko scowled before she ducked back out of view and continued scrubbing.
I'll get you for this, Ikusaba! I swear on my honor as a Kirigiri detective, I'll get you back for framing me for your mess and trying to steal my boyfriend from me!
