Chapter 17 - Who's The Student Hooking Up With Mr Haddock?

April was know as a month in the Archipelago as the official spring month, this was the month that crops were at their best and younglings were born. April was also know for the spring festival, where elsewhere in the world people might celebrate Easter in April and children hunt for chocolate eggs, the Archipelago did it somewhat different. The Spring Festival is the beginning of Spring, celebrating good luck and prosperity for the rest of the year. The most notable practice of the Spring Festival is the Luck Lanterns, where dozens of such lanterns are made prior to the festival itself. They are usually painted by children with different models, such as flowers and butterflies and then the lanterns are lit up and released into the sky to bring luck for planting. Which was the harvest of course. In Berk they believed that by giving the gifts of lanterns to the gods, the gods will reward them with full harvests.
Astrid has celebrated two previous spring festivals, she was lucky cause the spring festival always seemed to land on her birthday, and this year she was hoping to spend her birthday and the greeting of spring with her boyfriend.
It was Ruff and Tuff who told her about the spring festival back in her first year along with Fishlegs and the other two lads, so she had been up to date with this Berkian holiday, but it was Hiccup when he told her of his childhood around the spring festival that made her love it even more. Apparently for children there was this flower hunt, where kids would run around and hunt for different types of flowers and the winner would receive a fossilised dragon egg to resemble new life. Ironic if you ask her to give a child a fossilised egg to resemble new life!
There were many holidays and festivals surrounding spring, like Freya's blessing feast which was just after Valentine's Day, however ever since Berk had become modern that event was only celebrated by old traditionalists. Because basically back when Viking's roamed Berk the whole tribe would decorate the village with flowers and hold a huge feast in the great hall where vikings could show their affection through a single flower.
It was quite sweet if you think about it.
Of course the Spring festival and welcoming in the new life of spring was a big holiday for Berk, it was Snoggletog basically and then meant an end of term break. Which meant for Astrid and the other third years were coming to the end of their second term and would finally be entering their third and final term after the spring break. This was yet again where the students would head back home for a few weeks and Astrid would usually spend it in her flat. But not this year, this year she'd be staying in Hiccup's house for the entire break, with no interruptions. Wink wink!
With their second term coming to an end the pressure was on for everyone to get their final assignments ready for their third term, Astrid had to think of a huge theme for her final project, one she wasn't sure on yet. Her main idea was to look at all the old structures of Berk and all the new ones and blend them together, bringing the past into the future. But she wasn't sure yet.
But when thinking of stuff like that which brings on immense stress, the best thing one can do is run it out. It's why Astrid loved the running society, today was their last meet before spring break, so she tried her best to enjoy this one, letting the wind lapse over her face, breathing in the cool fresh spring air and letting it fill her lungs. It was thrilling!
Taking her AirPods out of her ears, another present Hiccup has gifted her, she checked her watch for her heart rate, she looked at her progress from her run, by the looks of it she could have done better. " Astrid!" She got a tap on the shoulder from behind causing her to jump when Aya startled her. " jeez girl, you must have been deep in thought, I called ya four times" Aya was always kind hearted, always saw the fun side in things. It's why Astrid liked her so much.
" sorry, just got a lot on my mind at the moment," Aya gave her that questionable look, the one where she raised her eyebrow so high Astrid was afraid it would one day pop off. " you know with finals coming up"
" oh girl you've got that in the bag I tell you" with a firm slap on her back Astrid already felt a little better, however finals wasn't the only thing she was worried about.
A scream of squealing girls entered the changing room. Sasha and Tanya were obviously at the head of it hovering over Sasha's phone with a whole load of other people. " oh here we go" Aya said as she took a seat next to Astrid and the two watched the show.
" girls it's official, right here in black and white from BTM!" Another load of squeals, BTM it was Berk's Teen Magazine, obviously these girls are still obsessed with it. But basically if there was gossip on the Haddocks BTM would be one of the first to post about it and it was almost always true. She turned her phone around to read out the title of the online magazine. " who's the student hooking up with Mr Haddock?" Again a bunch of squeals, Astrid didn't know what made her sick the most, the news article or the fucking squeals! " rumours have it that the heir to Berk had been having secret relations with a young blonde sources believe to be a student at Berk's University. This was clarified when Mr Haddock sued Berks magazine for showing a picture that was took on private land and was indecent. The head office say Mr Haddock didn't want his private life and the one he shares his time with leaked for all the people to see especially students who likely to gossip. Clarifying that Mr Haddock, the bachelor of Berk, is hooking up with one of Berks university student's."
" so it's definitely a student?" That's when Tanya spoke up, literally Sasha's double, those two were destined to be twins even if they weren't related.
" of course it is!" Another girl stuck her beak in and Astrid felt herself sinking further into her seat. " do we know if it's a first, second or third year yet?" Another spoke out, and another and a-fucking-nother, the whole fucking uni was talking about it and she had to just sit there and listen as they basically talk about her relationship.
" it doesn't matter what year I still think it's disgusting" Tanya had made it clear she thinks it's wrong for an ambassador of the university to be having any kind of relationship with a student.
" who cares I'd fuck him, he's Hiccup fucking Haddock! The heir to the Haddock empire, and it's not like it's illegal" Sasha had said from day one she was crushing hard on Hiccup Haddock. Every girl with a plus seemed to be crushing on her boyfriend, she felt it was wrong to have a ping of jealousy over a girl crushing on Hiccup. Knowing of course that Hiccup only had eyes for her. " look in my eyes he's a consenting adult and so is she probably so there for i'd be up for it too" shooting a couple of winks at her friends who of course squealed and squeaked at the thought.
" honestly don't they have anything better to drool about" Aya huffed beside her, out of the entire uni Aya was part of the 1% party that didn't really talk about it. Astrid's guess what that Aya simply didn't care. " you don't really say much about this Haddock stuff" it was more of a statement than a question, though if Aya knew the real reason why Astrid kept quiet they'd be having a completely different conversation.
" ahh well you know, I'm an outsider really, only moved to Berk three years ago, I'm still trying to keep up with the celebs here" she laughed it off like it was normal thing, hoping Aya would take the bait and leave it at that.
" damn right! Me too!" Of course, Aya wasn't originally from here, apparently she was originally from Cape Town South Africa, but what Astrid knew of Aya was she moved around a lot and her family never really stayed in one place for long. Unlike the people of Berk. " these people caught up in the shit of other peoples lives, it sad. Me and you, we got our heads screwed on" Unfortunately Astrid only thinks it's Aya who's in fact got her head screwed on, cause she wouldn't have gotten herself mixed up with a Haddock, she wouldn't have fell head over heels for one. Not like Astrid did.
" my friends keep telling me it's the talk of the Archipelago, even the Little Isles are on to it"
The Little Isle are, as their name suggests, a collection of very small islands just under Berserker island, this was known for how late they were at becoming updated with the modern world. Apparently they still use wooden knifes and folks, if that was true Astrid didn't know, she'd never been.
As she was sitting there reflecting on what was being said it was all making sense now, she wasn't trying to stay out of the shit that surrounds the Haddock family simply because she was an outsider. She was trying to avoid it for her own selfish reasons. But deep down this was her shit now, she'd have to accept that what came with Hiccup was also hers now. At the start she didn't think she could, now she knows she can deal with it, cause she wouldn't have to do it alone.
But all she needs to do is get through the next few weeks, and then after that - all hell can break loose!

She was free, well from uni for a few weeks that is anyway, free from the gossip and bitchiness, free from all of them. She hoped that a few weeks away will do them good, and when they all got back it would be finally be quiet again.
She could have literally ran out of her final seminar, camera bag clutched over her shoulder. The spring break was finally here, she didn't have to put up with bitchy gossip no more!
" Astrid!" She could have cursed herself for being so positive, still being in the uni grounds of course someone spotted her. Looking over her shoulder she nearly choked, Thug was about a few yards back calling for her through the crowds.
It had been no secret she had been avoiding him like the plague these past few weeks, every time he'd try to get into conversation ( which of course was him either asking for an apology for what happened 4 months ago or questioning her relationship with the Haddocks ) she'd run a mile. And now was no different, clutching on to her stuff even more she picked up her speed, she was small framed which made it easy for her to squeeze past walking people who were taking their time. Her name was still being called over and over from behind, but she shut it out as she dodged her way through the crowds.
The next thing she knew two hands grabbed her quick and pulled her into a little ally way between buildings and out of sight. She went to scream to draw attention but a hand covered her mouth, her next defence was to beat the shit out of who she thought was Thuggory, " by the gods Ast! Cut that shit out!" But that voice wasn't Thugs, or a lads by that matter.
It was in fact Ruffnut who wasn't pleased to being hit over and over. " gods Ruff! I thought you were Thug!" Her eyes immediately darted around to see if Thug had found them, by the looks of it the coast was clear.
" I saw him trailing after you, thought you could do with a quick escape" Astrid could only smile, Ruff was always there no matter what, kinda made her regret not telling her the second her and Hiccup were in a relationship.
" he's been trying to talk to me for months now, I just keep avoiding him, I have nothing to say" she shrugged her shoulders and brushed it off, the last thing she needed was to talk to him. He was still in her group of friends at this moment, seeing as Bear and Tuffnut insisted that he stays she just had to grit her teeth and just avoid conversation. She felt Ruff wrapping her arms around her for a hug.
" you say the word and I'll beat the shit out of him" again Ruff brought a smile to Astrid's face.
" no if I wanted to I'd do it myself" the two roommates were quite the pair, they'd both could throw a punch when needing too. Looking again it seemed it was clear to go, the two looked carefully knowing Thug had a habit of popping out of nowhere. " only two more months anyway" was that it? Was that the time she had left before the whole archipelago knew her business? Her and Hiccup hadn't even discussed how they would do it. Sooner or later all the rumours will be answered and she'll be the main source of everyone's questions and answers. The thought was daunting but she agreed with Hiccup this is what they were going to do, unfortunately she couldn't keep their relationship a secret forever.
" I'm so jealous!" Ruff's voice brought her out of her little trance as the two walked out of the university's grounds and into the city centre. " you get to spend the whole of Spring break, even the Spring Festival, at a billionaire's mansion while I'm spending it in a sweaty boxing ring!" Oh right she forgot to add that Ruffnut was spending her Spring break this year with Snotlout, but he had a big fight coming up so that meant she'd have to spend it in a gym half the time.
But that only made Astrid laugh more, " haha you'll be fine, I bet you'll even enjoy it" but Ruffnut wasn't so convinced.

Snotlout arrived to theirs not long after they did, he was helping Ruffnut with her whole bedroom packing, " how much shit do you need woman!" Was all Astrid could hear.
" AS MUCH AS I FUCKING WANT PRICK!" And they said love never dies. To be honest on Astrid's side she was finding it quite entertaining as she packed up her suitcase for her break away with her boyfriend. Only she didn't know how the hell she was gonna get there. He hadn't given her much notice on if he was picking her up or if she was making her way there or if he was sending a car? But with everything that was happening it was probably best to do things last minute and not plan to far ahead.
A knock came to the door while Astrid was zipping up her suitcase, she went to go see who it was till she heard, " I got it!" Ruff came tip toeing through the apartment with her bare feet on the cold floor, " it's probably Tuff wanting something" usually when Tuffnut needed anything he'd steal it off them before either buying it himself or asking his parents. So Astrid went back into her room to finish off her packing and leaving Ruff to deal with her brother.
When Ruffnut went to open the front door she had a whole speech planned out in her head on how he could get lost and buy his own shit, but when she did another thing left her mouth. " Hel - Hubba hubba" there stood Eret Eretson proud and tall, looking down at the little lady who was practically drooling.
" hello Ruffnut, long time no see" he went to walk past her but she put an arm up in his way, resting it in the door frame making him pause a little. " Hello gorgeous" again no secret that Ruff had a wandering eye for tall, dark and gorgeous men. When she first got to meet Eret all those months ago in November she didn't really speak to him, but his man bun, muscles and sexy tattoos caught her eye and he's all she can talk about. 'Mr Tall, dark and sexy' as she calls him. And yes Snotlout knew about her 'sailor fantasy' as she calls it. Erets parents were sailors, lived and breathed on that boat they called home, and Eret was born on said boat. But both his parents were dead now and he gave up living on the seas to train to be a neurosurgeon, however that still didn't stop him in investing in half the boats and yachts in the Berk's harbour.
" aren't you still dating one of my best mates" it still flabbergasted Ruff that her boyfriend was best friends to this hottie and his cousin was the heir to fucking Berk. Which her best friend was currently dating. Her 13 year old self would be having a heart attack now.
" yes she is!" Snotlout came out of no where standing beside Ruff.
" oh baby" she wrapped her arm around her boyfriend, pulling him in for a kiss. " you know I love you, but you got to understand he's part god! You gotta let me admire that" Snotlout had always been the good looking one when he was a teenager and poor Hiccup didn't really hit his puberty till he was about 17-18 while all the rest of the lads hit it about 14-15. And then come uni it was Hiccup and his new friend Eret that was the talk of the show, one was tall, dark and muscular, both handsome, the other tall, auburn and very lean. He was the now shorty of the group, even though he was muscular, the girls liked the height.
While Ruffnut was busy with eating Snotlout's face off Eret slipped into the spacious apartment and just on queue Astrid walked out of her room into the kitchen looking to see what was going on in her living room.
" hey what you doing here?" She asked as she pulled a glass down, " drink?" He shook his head and watched and she poured water into her glass.
" I actually came to see you" her head shot up from her glass along with the two others near the door.
" and the plot thickens!" Ruff untangled herself from Snotlouts arms and joined the two around the kitchen counters. There was no plot when it came to Astrid and Eret's friendship, they met through Hiccup, and since she and Heather had been good friends so had her and Eret. He was like a brother figure to her really, he even check in on her with all her uni stuff. It felt weird to have people care about her the way a proper family did, she hadn't had this feeling for a long time and now she had the loving and caring of Hiccups parents, and uncle to rely in with Gobber, brothers and sisters in Ruff, Heather, Snotlout and Eret, and to top it off she had the love of her boyfriend. Everything she never had before she now had and more.
" oh? How come you came to see me?" Of course she'd seen Eret around town and stuff, out and about, but mainly with either Hiccup by her side or Heather. Eret wasn't one for stop by visits, he was usually too busy.
" orders from the boss," meaning Hiccup since that's what Eret calls him now, " I'm to pick you up and take you to his, thought it would be less suspicious with me picking you up than him himself." So that's Hiccup's plan, he didn't want to gain attention turning up in his noticeable car and picking up a blonde who lived not far from the University of Berk.
" right, well I'm practically ready if you wanna go now?" She tried not to sound to disappointed, deep down she wished it was Hiccup that would come to collect her, but it was wishful thinking. With the press on his ass on who the blonde was he was right not to come, not when she only had a few weeks left.
Eret jumped at the fact to leave as soon as, that way Ruff would stop eyeing him up and purring, or was it the constant bickering between Ruff and Snot, either would make you wanna leave.
" perfect, I'll get your bags you just get yourself ready" he ran past her into her room without another word leaving Astrid to deal with the noise of the couple in the other room. However that noise was drowned out with her thoughts, the press was already on their backs on the secret relationship, and her name was still kept quiet. What would it be like when the cat was out of the bag, when everyone knew? Hiccups friends and family have been so good in keeping her secret, but will they be any good at keeping her out of sight when this is ok over, when it all comes out for good.
Will she be able to handle it? That was the big question.

The drive was lovely to Hiccup's, it was mainly Astrid and Eret talking about his uni days, digging up all the dirt on Hiccups flirting days. Apparently he wasn't as mysterious as he was when she first met him, he was really bad at flirting, very very goofy. And he was already goofy now.
She wished she'd met him back then, saw how he was in his younger uni days. He was probably so awkward, more than he was now, he was probably super sweet too, like he is now, except he was probably dorky sweet back then. To think of it he's dorky sweet now.
They were pulling up outside Hiccups before she even knew it. The sound of Toothless' barking against the front window caught her attention. He must have heard the car pulling up before noticing her in the front seat, now he was going mad at the windows scratching over and over waiting for her to come through the front door. She got out with a little excitement, this place was starting to feel like she just came home. When she stepped out in front of her boyfriends front door, she hadn't realised that Eret had already gotten out himself and gotten her bags.
" oh thanks for the lift Eret, I can get those" she came over and threw her duffel bag over her shoulder while he for her suitcase.
" don't be daft, you're my friend too Ast, I didn't do this just for little old Hiccy" his large arm swung over her shoulder giving her a big squeeze. " you're family now" she hung onto those words as they entered Hiccups house. It was nice hearing it from Hiccup and his family, and hearing it from Ruff and her other friends, but hearing it from Eret just really hit her more. To her it meant she was excepted as not only as Hiccups girlfriend or their friend, but into their own little weird family they had gained through the years. She went from having no family to have one in all shapes and sizes.
The black bouncing ball of fur came bounding into her legs, greeting his owners mate with the same amount of affection as he would towards Hiccup. " hi my sweet sweet boy!" She let him rub himself all over her, rubbing his scent onto her and her scent onto him. Licking her face over and over to show his love towards her.
" look at that, pup likes my girlfriend more than me" Hiccup came out of nowhere, talking to Eret first taking the suitcase from him and thanking him for his part to play.
" well I don't blame him man" they had a little man hug before they were pulled apart by Toothless saying hello to Eret now. The big man went down on all fours giving the dog a good rub here and there. Meanwhile Astrid had slipped into Hiccup's arms, letting him pull her deep into his embrace. " no neither do i" he kissed her sweetly, happy to have her back within his arms again. " you understand why I had to send Eret right? I would have came for you myself if only-"
" if only the press wasn't on your ass" she finished off with a smile, letting him know she knew he made the right call. But just so he definitely knew she placed a sweet kiss on his lips, feeling him melt back into her. She didn't know how completely wrapped up he was in her, he'd been looking forward to this spring break for weeks, to just have her to himself, no parents, no friends, no worries. But then the picture came out for all to see and their actions were now being watched, it have been a miracle they got her in without a camera noticing.
His house had been on lockdown since the picture emerged, cameras were everywhere, his little cove was surrounded by photographers. They might as well have been in his back garden! However they stuck to not being on private land as there was a court case looming over Berks magazine and it was top news.
Her being here was risky, but he wouldn't have it any other way. To wake up and just have her there in his arms, to make her breakfast, to have her there when they cook dinner together (or he cooked dinner for her). He'd given Terri the holidays off so they could be normal for once, cook their own meals. To make love to her every night and not have to sneak out unseen. It have been a long time coming that he'd get to finally have his girlfriend back to himself.
" get a room, or it won't be just the dog puking" he made sick noises as a joke while the two pulled apart. " right kids I'm off home, got a lady waiting for me at home who's just got back from Berserker island, and I'd be a fool to make her wait much longer" he trotted his way over to the front door, bouncing like a puppy after a treat. " don't you kids get into too much trouble while uncle Eret is gone. " he shot a wink towards Astrid when he said that, making the two roll their eyes as they wished him off. Hiccup practically shoved him out the door, sick of his friends jokes.
" I swear he is trying to kill me with embarrassment" he said shutting the door for good while his blonde beauty only giggled at him. " right I say we get you unpacked-" his arms a wrapped back around her again in an instant. " and then do what ever the hell we want afterwards" he kissed her neck over and over cheekily.
" oh really" she played along with his tease, running her hands over his. " well then we better get started-"

As the days went on during the spring break, Astrid seemed to get more frustrated with being stuck with in the house. The press got word of a guest staying at the Haddock mansion, and now where ever she looked there was photographers.
Hiccup hadn't seen it like this before, he'd have people outside his house sure, but not at this mass. However it would soon quieten down in the next few days and then he and Astrid would just have to be careful from now on. He made Luna and the other maids and cleaners shut all blinds and curtains, he'd look out once and a while only to just see continuous flashing from a far. It wasn't like he didn't notice Astrid's frustration, he'd go out to work and she'd be stuck with the same walls all day. There was only so much you could do in a house day after day. But he was in a rut, he'd do anything to tell everyone about her but they couldn't afford that till after her final exam, and with that he couldn't afford to let her out. Not unless she wanted the whole of Berk to know.
He hadn't seen her for the majority of the day, this morning he'd left her in a cocoon of sheets while he slipped out and showered off their late night layer of sweat. She hadn't seemed to mind though as she spent the entire morning sleeping in. But when he got back from work he couldn't seem to find her, with that he made his way up to the third level of his house to see if she was still cocooned in his sheets, to find her looking out one of his very top windows on his landing.
She had been peering out the window for about 20 minutes, just looking at the world go by. In the distance she could see the photographers lurking about, knowing that any second now a photograph could have been taken and their secret would be exposed, but it was worth the risk, only to see the outside world for just a second.
" you know one picture and that's game over" she dropped the curtain with a jump, turning to see Hiccup stood behind her, he was still in his work clothes, however his suit jacket was no where to be found, neither was his tie and his shirt was unbuttoned so his chest peered through. She had to admit it she was a little turned on by it as he came walking over to her by the window, hands in his trousers pockets. He had this cool way about him, she didn't know what it was, the smirk on his face, the ruggedness of him coming home from work, maybe it was cause she was horny and he'd been gone all day. Who knew, but she couldn't help but get all nervous and back up to the closed window as he came over.
" I know, but I kinda feel like a caged animal, I just wanna get out, this isn't how I would have liked to spent my birthday in a few days" that's right, it was her 23rd birthday in a few days, Hiccup was already showering her with gifts every morning, they were in present bags beside the bed every morning, wrapped in different coloured bows. It could have been something grand like diamond jewellery or something so simple as a bottle of champagne with chocolates. She was actually scared of what will come on her actual birthday, Hiccup of course will top trump her from when she surprised him for his birthday.
" I know," his arms came around her body making her heart flutter even more. " but I have a surprise though," this sparked her interest a little, he picked her up by the legs and propped her up on the windowsill. Her back dangerously pushed against the closed curtain as his hands ran dangerously up and down her thighs and waist.
" oh? Do tell Mr Haddock" she of course tempted him, wiggling herself closer to him.
" I know staying in is driving you crazy, and I know the Spring Festival falls on your birthday so-" before he had time to finish what he wanted to say, she butted in, finishing off before he took a breath.
" yes I'd love to go"
" let me finish," he laughed knowing that was something she would do, " we can go, but I'm gonna suggest to wear a hat to cover our hair and sunglasses, there will be no photographers which is good, but we could do with no one looking our way" she was too excited to even listen to what he was saying. All she could do was kiss him over and over while he was still speaking.
" yes yes yes, whatever I'm fine with it, just let me have some fresh air" she giggled into his lips as she still continued to kiss him. However she only pulled back when she felt his hands unbutton the buttons on her jeans, " woah! Easy Haddock we are very much in public" she looked around, even though it was only the two of them here on the third floor landing but anyone could walk up at anytime.
" so?" His hands were again wandering past her waist line, tugging on her underwear probably hoping it will snap at any second under his fingertips. He was daring her by the second, and she thought it was her that was horny.
" Hiccup! What if Luna were to come up?" Even though her mind was saying no, her hips were rising up as he pulled her jeans and underwear down with one successful tug.
" she'll just head back down again, it's my house remember, my rules" his lips were dangerously tempting her to the dark side. Her jeans were dropped to the floor without a thought, the temptation was too strong for reality, her head rolled with his as the two slipped into each other.
" I thought I was the one that was daring in this relationship" he let his fingers soak up every fibre of her skin as he ran his hands up and down under her top. His lips took control over hers and for once she let him take control of the situation. She let herself mould into his arms, let him take control of the whole situation, something she rarely did.
" told you, you're a bad influence" the two giggled, Hiccup's face still buried in her neck, kissing her skin with little pecks. However he was right, she was the bad influence as it was her hands pulling his belt from his trousers and tugging his shirt out rapidly. Her hands were on him as quick as his was on her, pushing his pants down like he did to her. Whether it was being caged up in this massive house they didn't know, but heat was running high, and all sense was pushed out the window, to be honest she nearly was. The way he hungrily pushed her up against the closed curtain was practically dangerous, the way they stripped was dangerous. They were losing all sense within themselves, and nothing really mattered right now.
" I'll let you into a little secret though Haddock, I was innocent before I met you" there was no lie behind that, before Hiccup she wasn't known as a bad influence, but when she came into his life Hiccup felt she was temptation on a plate. He was wrapped around her finger and what she wanted, she could have no matter what.
Their lips locked again in a hungry sense, they were inseparable at this point, Astrid's hands were already locked in his hair like usual, dragging her fingers through it driving him crazy. His hands were working on dragging her naked hips into his, pushing into her with one satisfying thrust. It wasn't like the two were sex deprived, she'd been living here now for a few days, the two were ripping each other's clothes off any chance they got when they were alone. This was just spontaneous, romantic and sexual! She loved it when Hiccup pulled something out the bag like this, it drives her crazy, made her love him even more.
