Chapter 5: Some Light Training

Authors note:

I see you have come back for another chapter of the harem anime owl house… thank you and I am sorry for the cringe. This si the last chapter of the original five I've outlined after I finish this one I've got to outline the last fifteen. I plan on doing four arcs each with 20 chapters. Let me know what you think of my story on the reviews… please don't be a creep.

The sun crested from the stain glass windows of the Owl House. Luca Nocenda sat on a chair next to his sister.

Luz had been lying unconscious for two days now and the boy would only leave her side when he had too.

"Luz, please wake up." he said his voice hoarse and cracked. He hadn't been drinking much outside of breakfast, which was brought to him by Eda.

"I swear when you open your eyes I'll never let anyone hurt you again. I promise I'll be a better big brother." Luca placed his hand over his sister's head. Her temperature was normal, meaning the fever was gone. "Lulu, I'm sorry for not protecting you."

Luca thought of all the ways he could've helped Luz in their fight with Erza. But, he froze up and his family paid for it. The boy clasped his hands together and began to pray… though he didn't know who would listen.

Luca begged the world itself to not take Luz from him as well.

"Ugh, Luca, where am I." Luz groaned her voice weak.

"Lulu, you're okay. Eda! She's awake!" Luca called to The witch woman with tears in his eyes.

"Luca, where are we?" She asked her eyes opening and Luca could see they were full of weariness.

"We're safe Lulu, those bad people can't get us now." Luca replied, ecstatic that he could finally talk with Luz again.

"Where's mom?" Luz asked, raising her head to meet Luca's eyes.

The boy froze at her question, how can I answer that he thought, he had been so obsessed with Luz waking up. He hadn't thought out a plan to tell her their mom was no longer around.

"Luca, where's our Mami." Luz asked, tears in her eyes as she started to realize.

"She's… gone Luz. The red haired woman killed her. I'm sorry." Luca admitted, his body feeling the weight of his guilt.

Luz's face soured as she reached out for Luca. "Tell me it's not true… please." she wept holding her brother tight.

"I'm sorry Lulu, I'm so sorry." Luca patted his sisters back.

"I-i want her dead!" Luz growled. "I hate her! I want her to pay!"

"Luz! Look at me. this isn't what mom wants." Luca grabbed her shoulder and looked in her rage filled eyes. "She'd want us to stay together and look out for each other, so help me, I'll make sure we're both safe." Luca kissed Luz's cheek.

"The last thing I said to her was I hate you. What kinda daughter am I?" Luz mewled into Luca's shoulder.

"I know Lulu, I know. But we can't focus on the past. We need to prepare ourselves. The worst is yet to come." Luca comforted his sister and her grip loosened. The boy thought about the last thing he said to his mother. A hesitant I love you… why can't I tell someone I love you when I was in my own home.

Unknown by the two teens Eda was watching from the stairs with a smile. "Well kids, let's get ready for training." she said taking a sip from her mug.

"Training?" Luz asked, head tilted.

"Yeah Lulu, turns out mom and dad were witches, which also makes us witches. So we are going to try and become magic users." Luca explained, trying to take his mind off the horrid event that just transpired.

Luz's eyes brightened as she leapt from the coach "You mean like the good witch Azura? I can do magic!?" Luz let out an elated squeal and did a stepping dance.

"Wow Lulu you recover quick." Luca chuckled, it's nice seeing her happy again. Luca thought, walking with his sister outside to see the lawn had been changed into a boot camp training ground. Complete with dummies, targets, and an obstacle course which looked like it would kill you before you'd take your first step.

"Don't worry Luca you guys won't be on the trial of death today." Eda affirmed placing her hand on the two kids shoulders. "No, today we learn the first spell all witch children learn: light."

Eda then twirled her left ring finger to summon a circle that changed into a ball of light. "Now you." she pointed to Luca.

"Uh Misses Clawthorne, we still look human." Luca reminded her.

"Oh yeah, let's fix that." Eda then summoned a new spell circle to change Luca and Luz back to their witch forms.

Luca's eye color changed to a golden brown, his ears were pointed, and he had a similar fang like Eda's.

Luz's transformation was similar but her eyes were hetero-chromatic as one was golden brown and the other was teal.

"Ah Luz was it? You have your father's eye." she chuckled snapping her fingers at Luz and clicking her tongue.

"T-thanks?" Luz blushed at the compliment.

"Now let's see what you little witchlings can do." Eda instructed once again showing how to do the spell.

Luca tried to follow her instruct but his just fizzled. "Dang it."

"Let me try." Luz did the same motion but her circle was imperfect and instead of a perfect orb of light a flickering ball came out and went out.

"Alright, I forgot this is probably the first time you've ever used magic." Eda clapped her hands together. "Now focus on warm memories. Magic manifests from the bile sac in your heart and the finger waving is supplemented by intent. Intent can be manipulated by memories."

Luca tried again thinking of the time he and his mom were at his fourth birthday. It was a good day. she took him to Charlie's fun palace which was the biggest pizza place in their city. Luca ate so much pizza he felt sick the next three days after. With that the light came out better but quickly flickered out a minute later.

The same was true for Luz.

"Now focus on using a bigger circle. The more power you wanna put in the circle, the more room your spell circle needs." Eda said doing a circle as tall as her body summoning many different sized light orbs.

Luca and Luz did as she instructed and they managed to summon half as many as she did.

"very good, now get packed. We have to get you kids some supplies for living on the isles." she instructed heading into the house.

"Uh Misses Clawthorne?" Luca asked.

"Yes Luca?" She replied, stopping her pace.

"My mom told me to tell you that the day of unity was upon us. I was wondering what that meant?" Luca asked, "it sounded ominous."

Eda sighed, "To think I'd have to hear those words again." she said summoning a couple chairs form her house with magic, "Alright kids, sit down."

Luca and Luz took a seat watching edalyn as she summoned a carton of appleblood.

The witch woman sat down in silence with her arms crossed. "Emperor belos was the one who told us about the day of unity, a conjunction between worlds… a gift from the titan he said. It was supposed to bring two worlds together."

The owl lady took a drink. "He hunted me when I was young lady because he needed my portal to the human realm for it to work. But Belos never got it. I was inside his prison, that's when the empress and her champions arrived. I watched her destroy Belos with a wave of her hand and the darnedest thing happened she saw me leave with the portal… and just let me walk."

"She came to my house, strutting like she owned the place. Hooty tried to defend me but instead of attacking him she just scratched under his chin and he was like putty In her hands. She knew all my tricks and defenses like she'd been there or something."

"She came to me and told me that I was no longer a criminal and she cured my curse like it was nothing. She then told me to take her to Cammie and that's when she told us her plan."

Eda's body shook. "Her voice so cold and precise like a serpents. She looked your mother in the eye like they were friends and told us "this one will be the key to the day of unity. He is to be the chosen of the titan." Camilia knew she had darker intentions for you Luca and that's why she ran." Eda grasped the mug and didn't bother to look up at the child.

"When she escaped with my portal I told the empress that Camilia stole it and left. The empress seemed to believe me and told me she would look into it. I never heard another word, the stipend checks kept coming and the empress even offered me dinner from time to time. I thought she had moved on… until now. To think she'd do this." Eda's body shivered in terror.

"She sounds like a monster."

"I don't know what she is. She never removes that mask of hers."

"Mask?" Luca asked, thinking that this sounded familiar.

"Yeah a white dolls mask with red flames and black, soulless eyes that pierce your very being." Eda explained a chill running down her spine.

Luca's body constricted by itself. It's her. He thought, the woman I saw in my dream… the empress. Luca, filled with dread was in obvious terror.

"Kid, you okay?" Eda asked, concern clear on her tone.

"Yeah, I just remember something."

The group stood in silent awe for but a few moments before Eda cleared her throat ending the silence.

"Well, anyway we need to get ready to go to town. Oh, I almost forgot." She used her finger to summon a pair of black cloaks with the scent of incense on them "These cloaks will make you undetectable by the empresses secret Scrying orbs which she hides throughout the city." she hands them to Luz and Luca.

"Look kids," she starts, never being good at this maternal thing. "I know it seems bad right now, but believe me when I say: it's going to be alright. You've got a family here and as long as I am around I won't let anyone hurt you."

"Thank you Eda." Luca said, taking the cloak and wrapping it around himself. "How's about it Lulu, ready to go to town?" Luca asked spying luz doing a couple flourishes with her cloak's cape. She got her foot caught and almost landed face first to the ground.

"I'll take that as a yes." Luca chuckled helping his sister onto the wagon and sitting down beside her. Eda summoned a tarp over them. The wagon lurched forward when Lilith sat at the reins. The silent sound of whinies and the clacking of hoofs set the teens toward their new home. I guess this is where we live now. I think I'm gonna like it here.
