Chapter 9: Lilith To the Rescue

The wagon lurched forward, Bonesborough was ahead and the sun was reaching it's zenith.
Luca nocenda sat down in the back of the wagon with his cloak and hood on. Next to him was his sister Luz.
The two witches had been practicing for the last three months to get the basics of their spell craft and had done exceptionally well.
Luz was busy using her spell circles to create illusions a particular favorite of her. The illusions were of a bunch of famous fantasty characters from luz's books have a battle royale with anime heroes… playing out like a typical crossover.
Luca meanwhile was trying to perfect the elemental magics. He was a particular fan of lightning due to it being symbolic of speed and being catchable.
The wagon came to a grinding halt in the town square.
"Alright Kids we're here. Get out, stretch your legs, and let's get this shopping done." Eda instructed.
Lilith got off her reins and reached into a compartment under the shotgun seat pulling a brown paper bag.
Luca and Luz rose from the wagon and did as there teacher said.
"Okay, Luca here is your fourth of the list and Luz here's yours. Remember we meet back here in one hour with everything… don't make me have to look for you." The witch glared at Luca and Luz.
Both of the siblings nodded their heads "Yes Ma'am."
Lilith took a couple steps toward Luca, "Have you got everything?"
"Yes Lilith."
"cloak?"
"Currently wearing it."
"drink,"
"I have some appleblood," Luca pulled a flask fro his cloaks pocket.
"do you have a way of telling time?"
"Yes lilith, I have the time keeping spell you taught and there is a cloak tower in the middle of the city."
"Okay then," Lilith handed Luca the brown bag, "I made you a light lunch in case you get hungry."
Luca grabbed the bag and smilled, "Aww, thanks Lilith. You're so thoughtful"
Lilith warmly smiled toward the young man.
"Alright, I'll see you guys in an hour… bye!"
Lilith watched Luca run into the busy streets, almost getting hit by a passing carriage. "Watch where you're going Luca, stay safe, and don't talk to any strangers." Lilith Yelled to the boy.
"Love you guys!" Luca's voice barely carried over to the witches.
"That boy is going to be the death of me." Lilith sighed, placing her hand on her head.
Eda took a couple steps toward Lilith and smiled.
"well I guess the kid has grown on ya, Aye Lilith?" Eda smirked, holding her hand under her chin.
"Yeah," lilith replied, not entirely there as she watched Luca turn a corner, her eyes soft and chest beating quickly.
Luca had went from a novice to a prodigy in the last three months. He now picks up spells with very little room for errors. His sister is just as talented, though Lilith has taken a vested interest in Luca's training and has been harboring a strange feeling when she's near the boy.
Eda noticed this and decided to not talk about it. Because the very idea of Lilith being in love with someone was ridiculous to the witch. Eda knew that lilith was always in love with her studies and never had time to date… so why start now.
Lilith meanwhile was seeing stars thinking of how Luca was so nice to her and how she may have been watching him sleep for the last month… that isn't creepy is it. Lilith thought nah, I'm just protecting him… while he is most vulnerable. So what if I cuddle up to him for warmth every now and then. She assured herself.
"Hey Lilly! Clock's ticking, get the lead out!" Eda yelled already running to get the things off her list.
"Of course," Lilith said. I let Luca distract me again… I'll have time to think about him later. Lilith thought running to the first shop that she frequented during their supply runs.

Luca walked with a skip in his step carrying six bags full of provisions for the next month. He had been doing this for so long that he had twenty minutes to spare. He decided to explore the city while he waited for the time that he had to go back to eda and the cart.
The boy whistled a sweet tune and made his way into a sweets shop that he liked. Looking over the confections he bought two boxes of varities chocolate which he knew that all the girls in the house loved… when king allowed them to have any that is.
Luca took his treats and his bags outside.
The fact that he had become accustomed to this strange world was surprising to say the least but Luca knew deep in his heart that this was part of his heritage. He knew his mother had done a lot for him in order to get away from the isles… but he liked it here.
During his time here he learned much including that the empress's system is an unjust one. Luca could only harbor a deep hatred of the woman for all she took from him, and he promised himself that one day he would end her reign of terror.
Luca took a couple steps toward the town center but was stopped by the sound of arguing. The boy went to investigate and found a small crowd of people gathered around a woman screaming at man in dark leather clothing with a bandanna covering half his face.
"Where is she? Where is my duagther?" the woman yelled, glaring at the man.
The man returned the stare and then looked at two men dressed in similar clothing. "I done told ya lady, I don't know where your girl is."
"don't lie to me! You were with her the night she vanished."
"Lady, I don't know how to tell you this. But, that wasn't me… maybe your girl has been hanging with the wrong kinda company… if you catch my drift."
This line made the man's cronies chortlee at that.
"You bastard!" The woman charged him and began pounding her fist at him.
"get this bitch off me boys." he ordered.
On cue the two men dashed to the woman pulling her away from their boss.
"No! Let me go you bastards! I want my baby girl! You won't get away with this."
"Shut it bitch." The man ordered raising his hand.
Luca took his time to act summoning a bolt of fire to hit the man dead in the chest knocking him back.
The man picked himself up and glared at the crowd as they parted.
"Leave that woman alone," Luca commanded, raising his right ring finger pointing to the man.
"Beat that kids ass." he yelled and at his command the two men charged him.
Luca smirked as the first one came up to him with his fist raised for a haymaker. the boy merely ducked and used his momentum to trip the man.
The second guy acted a little smarter and paced around luca who followed him.
The leader snuck up behind Luca with a pair of a manacles in his hands.
Third guy picked himself up and tackled Luca.
Luca managed to slip out of his grasp and use a spell circle to luanch a small bolt of lightning at the leader, hitting the man hit in his side making him stumble back.
The third man didn't relent throwing heavy punch after heavy punch and his anger grew with each missed strike.
Luca used the trick the owl lady taught him when he was in a fight with witches about a certain pressure which made them go limp.
Luca tapped the connecting point between the neck and the torso with enough force to stun the witch as he fell backwards.
"whose next?" Luca replied, the boy let out a yawn and looked at the remaining two thugs with a bored expression. "for kidnappers you guys suck at subduing an opponent."
"says you, charge!" the leader called using a spell circle to summon a mist.
Luca in reponse use a spell to summon the winds and blew away the mists.
The thick smoke screen evaporated to reveal the men were gone.
"I guess they decided to run away, cowards."
"That's what you think," the leaders voice called behind luca slapping the manacles on.
"you think cuffs are gonna stop me?" Luca tried doing a spell circle to teleport him away from guys but once it was complete… nothing happened. "what is going on?"
"Like it? Those cuffs stop the connection between your bile sac and your body meaning you can't produce magic power and therefore can't cast spells."
"wow, big words for kidnapper garbage." Luca spat.
The leader punched the boy in the mouth. "you're gonna wish you never messed with me and my boys kid, we're gonna break your body and then throw you in the boiling sea."
"I don't think so!" Lilith's voice called from behind the guards. The glaring witch took a couple menacing steps toward the guards, "That boy is mine, and I'm afraid I can't let you take him."
"and how are you gonna stop us lady?" the leader smirked.
"why with magic of course." Lilith summoned a gust of wind that forced the leader and his goon back.
The witch then shot forward to position herself between Luca and the men. "Luca, you need to run and get eda." Lilith said, using her magic to undo the cuffs.
"what about you?" Luca asked, watching as the men began to get up and dust themselves off.
"i'll be fine you need to run, if you get cuaght then all your training will be for nothing!"
Luca nodded and his head turned to run "I'll come back for you."
Lilith watched him go and smile "be safe my little witch prince." a bolt of lightning darted past her ear and she turned her head glaring at the leader. "Now it's time to deal with you scum."
"Hey boss, this one looks kinda cute." the bandit pointed out.
Lilith glared at him.
"I get what you're saying pal. She'd make a good addition to the farm. Take her alive."
the farm? Lilith thought readying her staff and twirling it around. That must be were the women being kidnapped are taken.
The man then summoned his own staff which had a tiger claw palisman on it. The man twirled his staff and wrapped himself a tiger shaped aura.
"Umbra Magic? I didn't expect that for someone so low on the social ladder." Lilith praised staring at the man in awe.
"do you like it? A personal gift from our patron for a job well done. I wonder what they'll give me when I hand you over." He gloated.
Lilith in reponse smiled and surged forward. Flying like a graceful dove, she dodged the Man's claw strikes with ease while looking for a weakness.
From what I remember about the umbra school of magic it allows you to gain the benefits of the animals of the boiling isles and earth to use as armor and a weapon. But the drawback was that you would take a tenth of the damage your umbra would take. Lilith thought, already making strategy for this fight. I'll have to overwhelm him with sheer spell power. But I need to be careful. There are innocent bystanders in the way.
Lilith flew under the tiger aura and use and fire spell to cut thru it's stomach. A pillar of shoots out of her circle and comes from the back of the aura, skirting past the leader.
The tiger aura stumbles backwards and almost falls on top of a woman and her child.
Lilith notices this and swoops down to grab them. She takes the two to safety and places them down.
Lilith soars back to where the man was and sees the his aura has vanished and the building he crashed into has a sizable dent. She smirks as she levitates down.
"Now why don't you tell me where this farm is?" she smugly said.
The man's eyes begin to stir as he spits out some blood, "you'll find out soon enough, witch!"
Just then Lilith hears whimpering behind her. She turns and sees a woman being held with a knife to throat and the man's other friend behind her.
"Arms up and staff down, or else." he threatens sticking the tip of the blade into her throat drawing a small stream of blood.
Lilith glares at him but decides that she must not resist. She lights her hand and feels the weight of exhaustion flood her mind. Sleep spell, she realized as her eyes close and she falls to the ground.
