Chapter 12: Revelations

Pacing the floor outside Eda's bedroom… luca was a nervous wreck.
The young man had made a trail from one end of the hall to the other as his mind tries to comtemplate what just happened.
Is luz going to be okay? He thought turning for his hundredth lap in Eda's hall.
What kinda brother am I? How did I not know? Luca leaned against the wall and prayed to whoever would Listen. Please, help my sister.
The door to eda's bedroom opened and the owl lady came out carrying two glass rectangles.
"eda. How is she?" Luca asked running up to his mentor.
"How do I say this? Shes…"
"Deformed, mutated, terminally ill!"
"Healthy! Perfectly healthy… jeez kid dramatic much."
"W-what?"
"I ran the tests. Luz is the picture of health."
"That can't be? You saw the thing she became… how is that the picture health."
"I took a blood sample and in doing so I discovered that her healing factor has increased dramatically." Eda explained taking the blood sample down the stairs.
Luca followed her and listened to her explain that Luz is healthier then any witch or human has any right to be.
"what is that thing eda?"
"don't know. But it probably came from the empresses vault."
"Her what?'
"her vault of treasures. They come from the many worlds she has visited."
"is it going to kill luz?"
"I don't have the answers kid. But trust me I'll do everything in my power to make sure that doesn't happen."
Luca gave her and hug. "thank you."
Eda patted his back and walked off. "I need to examine this specimen. You and luz can have my bed for the next couple nights as we are going to run more tests."
"Thanks eda?" Luca replied going to the couch to sit down.
Eda nodded her head and walked off to her lab.
Luca meanwhile placed his head in his hands to wallow in his self pity.
Unaware to the witch teen lilith was watching from the top of the stairs.
"That poor boy," she said looking at Luca in despair. "I have to talk to him." she said about to take a couple steps toward him. What if he gets angry? She thought stopping at the top step.
Luca's soft sobs made lilith's heart sink. She clenched her fists thinking about all the empress put him through. She steeled herself and took a march down the stairs.
"Luca? Are you doing okay?" Lilith asked sitting nect to the boy on the couch.
"what kind of big brother am I?" Luca asked, his eyes red and puffy.
"a good one, you can't beat yourself over this."
"It's my fault that luz is afflicted with this thing… how can I just forgive myself?"
Lilith froze because she was in this situation during the age of Belos when she cursed her sister. "I know it's hard for you. But believe me, it's going to get better. We'll get thru this… together." Lilith reached her hand to hold Luca's but was surprised when the boy wrapped his arms around her and cried into her shoulder.
Lilith froze but immediately placed her hands around luca and patted his back then proceeded to rub it. "there, there, Luca it's not your fault."
"w-what if I'm not strong enough to save her." he said through his sobs.
"you are and you know why?"
"why?"
"Because you came back and saved me… thrice."
"when was the third time?"
"Just now." she said showing a small smile as she held luca.
After he calmed down he released Lilith and walked away from lilith.
"Thank you," he said giving lilith a thumbs up. "you're a good person Lilith clawhtorne."
"Thank you luca,"
"Now, if you don't mind I'm going to check on Luz."
"Okay," Lilith watched him go and saw that her heart was melting as she smiled.
Once Luca was gone Lilith looked around and then reached into a secret compartment under the futon and pulled out a box full of pieces of paper.
Lilith looked them over and sighed. "you're a coward Lilith Clawthorne… you could never tell him how you really feel." Lilith then grabbed a new piece of paper and an ink pot with a quill from the compartment. "But you can write it."
Lilith sat for an hour thinking of things to say that she could put to pen. But like all her writing sessions she just couldn't think of anything to say. Luca made her stomach fill with butterflies, he made her feel like she was quesy, and most importantly she made her afraid that he would reject her.
The witch then had inspiration strike her and she scratched her letter on pad with an uncharacteristic ferocity. She then finished looking it over and frowning.
"No, it's too sappy… Luca would never like this." she balled it up and threw it toward the waste basket missing it.
"Now, let's try this again." she said taking a new piece of paper and writing into it.
"Ah, now this one is coming along nicely." she said, satisified with her hard work as she finished her letter.
"Yes, this one Is definetly being added to the collection." Lilith kissed the letter and felt her head goes dizzy. "someday maybe, I'll be able to show Luca how I really feel."
"Hey sis what are you doing!" Eda yelled kicking open her door spooking Lilith.
"Ow, Hoot, what was that for?" Hooty asked, sporting a black eye.
"Pure entertainment and joy."
"E-Edalyn don't scare me like that." Lilith said hiding her letter behind her back.
"Oh I'm sorry, was I interrupting you writing letter to your boyfriend." eda the said last bit like a swooning school girl.
"how do you know about that!?"
"Sis, I've seen you when you've had crushes before… you're not exactly good at hiding it. But all I need to know is… who is it?"
"T-that's, none of your business!"
"C'mon, this is juicy, you haven't had a crush on someone since you joined the emperor's coven… so tell me."
"No! Just drop it."
Eda took a few steps forward placing her hands on lilith's shoulders and looking her into the eye. "Lilly, I understand it's embarassing and I respect your wishes."
"Thank you edalyn."
"sike! Yoink!" Eda snatched the letter from behind her back.
"Now let's see what you've written to the apple of your eye."
"edalyn no, give that back." Lilith chased after eda who ran while she ran.
"My dearest beloved. Pfft, good start sis."
"Edalyn." Lilith growled.
"it has been many nights that I have thought of you… wow sis you got it bad."
"Edalyn I swear."
"I love how the light shines off your brown hair, how my very body quivers when your piercing yellow eyes meet mine, ooh, I'm getting an image here."
"edalyn! Please stop." Lilith kneeled over and gasped for breath.
"It is with great hope and joy that I wish to confess my love for you luca. Ha ha you're in love with luca… wait luca!"
"Yes." Lilith said drawing out the boys name in shame.
"my apprentice luca. The one whose sister almost died for the second time."
"Yes," Lilith squeeked.
"Lilith, he's a child."
"He's 18 edalyn and is very mature for his age."
"he's being hunted by women who want to force him into a relationship… do you really think he's looking for a girlfriend right now."
"Ha, as if those brutes could hope to win his heart. They don't know him like I know him." lilith replied smugly.
"Uh huh, since you know him so well, let me ask… do you think he'll say I love you… when he doesn't even say it to his own sister."
Lilith's eyes widened as she tried to formulatean answer. But she sulked and said, "no."
"didn't think so." Eda said handing Lilith the letter. "Look sis, do what you want but understand that luca may reject you and I don't want you to be hurt… okay."
"Okay, Thank you sister. Lilith replied.
