Dumbledore came rushing into the house, James had alerted him that Voldemort had attacked them, somehow getting through the fidelius charm, Dumbledore would need to talk to James about Sirius there being no other way for Voldemort to circumvent the strong charm.

As Dumbledore came bursting through the door it was easy to see a duel had taken place, the living room was half destroyed and drops of blood stained the carpet floor. Suddenly he heard James calling him from upstairs.

"Professor get up here quick you need to see this" James shouted a hint of worry in his voice.

As Dumbledore climbed the stairs he involuntarily shivered he could still feel the faint traces of dark magic emanating around the house, he now entered the potter twins bedroom and paused to take in the sight before him. James was cradling Jim potter the youngest while Lilly was holding on to Harry the oldest one. Both boys were spitting images of their parents Jim had inherited James's messy hair and hazel eyes while Harry had Lilly's vibrant green eyes and smooth hair, albeit Harry's was dark black and not red.

"James, Lilly please explain to me what happened here, how was Voldemort defeated, did you manage to kill him in a duel James" Dumbledore asked calmly not quite comprehending that Voldemort was gone, for the moment at least.

James explained what happened, beginning with the startling revelation that peter was the secret keeper and not Peter, Dumbledore would need to notify the DMLE that Peter would have to be arrested. first Voldemort entered the house and began to duel James who hoped to stop him or at least buy some time. Unfortunately Voldemort proved to be too powerful and defeated James with a stunner. He then went upstairs and stunned Lilly after she refused to move away from both her sons. When both finally came to nothing of Voldemort but his robes remained and both children remained unharmed with only a few scares from debris and obviously frighted out of their minds.

"What I still don't understand is how Voldemort was defeated and why did he decide to spare both me and Lilly", "why didn't he just kill us both" Asked James frowning.

"I think I can answer both of your questions," Dumbledore replied sounding wistful "I suspect he didn't kill you James for the simple reason that your a pure-blood.

James blinked and stared at him incredulously "Er how that relevant to Voldemort deciding not to off me?"

"You forget that most of Voldemort's supporters are pure-bloods" explained Dumbledore "Voldemort killing a pure-blood, even one they hate would have royally annoyed them. Perhaps Voldemort could have smoothed things over with his power base but I'm wiling to guess he thought it more trouble than it was worth and decided to spare you in order to play it safe."

"As for why he decided to spare Lilly," Dumbledore continued on "I assume he would take great pleasure in personally telling her he killed her children before killing her."

Lilly potter looking a little squeamish at this statement decided to ask the other and most important question.

"How was Voldemort killed" she asked her voice barely above a whisper

Dumbledore paused before replying "May I have a closer look at both of your sons?" at the somewhat hesitant he received from both James and Lilly he knelt down to inspect both of them. Starting first with young Harry who gave him a toothless grin smiling back and the baby Dumbledore inspected him closely. He could see a scar on his forehead in the shape of a lightning bolt, Dumbledore put his hand above it and shivered. He could feel some extremely powerful dark magic residue, Dumbledore felt apologetic the scar being a product of dark magic would unfortunately never heal.

Turning his attention to Jim potter who unlike harry was still slightly crying the first thing his eyes were drawn to was the scar in the shape of a V directly on his neck, once again raising his hands above it drew the same conclusions as his brother scar did, it was also the product of dark magic slightly more powerful dark magic than his brothers scar. Looking them over once again Dumbledore stood up.

"There is a prophecy that connects to this," explained Dumbledore stroking his beard "I will tell you it in full."

"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies" Dumbledore finished in a grave tone. "I suspect Voldemort tried to kill to use a killing cure only for it to end up rebounding."

James looked shocked at this statement and felt extremely worried but felt somewhat consoled by the fact that Voldemort had been killed. Lilly however was looking thoughtful and frowned.

"The prophecy says ONE meaning one of our sons killed Voldemort, not both of them," said Lilly "and it says he will mark them as his own, could he have left a mark or….," Lilly trailed off looking at the V shaped scar on Jim

"Jim must have defeated Voldemort," James exclaimed looking closer at the V shaped scar "You said it would mark him as his equal, what better sign than the first initial of his name!" James was getting more and more excited proud that his own son had done what other wizards had failed to do.

Dumbledore blinked "thats somewhat shaky logic" he thought to himself "The shape of a magically caused scar means very little, then again the residual dark magic that radiated from the scar did feel stronger than his brothers, yes he probably is the chosen one if not, well I never put a great deal in faith in prophecies anyway."

Dumbledore smiled at Jim his eyes twinkling then turned back to the boys parents "I suspect you are correct, I suspect Voldemort tried to use a killing curse on young Jim potter but through unexplained reasons it rebounded back to him"

"So Voldemort's finally dead" Asked James relief clear on his face

Dumbledore looked sombre and was silent for a few moments before replying "I doubt Voldemort is gone for good," he explained his eyes having lost there twinkle "I heavily suspect that he was researching ways to attain immortality, how I cannot say through some vile black magic no doubt."

WHAT Lilly shrieked beginning to panic "What will we do when he comes back, he will have learned from his mistakes and will kill us without a second thought"

Dumbledore raised his hands in an attempt to calm her "Yes he is not gone for good," he exclaimed looking at both of them with a calm expression "at the moment however he is probably weakened I suspect it will be quite some time before he has the strength to return enough time to train jim and for everyone else to prepare."

James nodded while looking at Jim "Yes Jim will need to be trained so he is capable of defeating Voldemort once again, I wont have my son being defenseless again"

Lilly scowled "I wont have my son bought up to be a weapon, he is still only a child not some emotionless soldier"

Dumbledore chuckled "No one is saying anything of the sort" Dumbledore said "Im not keen on becoming obsessed with raising some weapon to defeat Voldemort, I think learning a few basic jinxes as a child would be more than sufficient until he comes to Hogwarts. "Moving on to another topic I am however worried about young Harry here."

James frowned having momentarily forgotten his oldest child in the excitement of learning Jim Potter was the chosen one. "worried how," he asked looking slightly concerned "did Voldemort do something to him too?"

Dumbledore shook his head "No, there's some residual dark magic, probably from a shock wave" He explained "Im more concerned about someone kidnapping harry to get to either you and Lilly or Jim, he unfortunately doesn't have the mystique of having defeated Voldemort meaning opportunistic death eaters would be far more likely to try to hurt him than Jim."

Both potters looked slightly alarmed at this news though it did not escape Dumbledore's notice that they looked slightly relieved when he pointed out Harry not Jim was more likely to be harmed.

Dumbledore paused for a second mulling over the options he had to ensure Harry's safety suddenly an idea came to him "Say Lilly I seem to recall you had a muggle sister, would it be possible for her to raise Harry, muggle London is the last place any remaining death eaters would think to look"

Lilly looked as though she had swallowed something particularly unpleasant "No way would I give him to Petunia and her oaf of a husband," she shot out shaking her head violently "He may be safe from death eaters there but I'm willing to bet my wand the he would be in an orphanage in a week tops, "you would have more luck convincing Voldemort to see the error of his ways than getting her to accept anything that isn't normal."

"I agree," James put in "I've only met her once and she was dreadful"

Dumbledore frowned at this revelation he hadn't expected Lilly and her sister to apparently dislike each other with such a passion.

"I'll take your word on this one" Dumbledore told them looking sadly at both of them "I haven't met the woman personally to be able to make a impression of her, do either of you have any ideas of where Harry can go?" Dumbledore asked both of them.

"Why cant we raise him here" Lilly asked looking confused "the potter house has more than enough wards to protect him?"

Dumbledore paused before replying there was actually a lot of logic in what she said, "If you think you are both up to it then I see no reason why not, yes perhaps it best if he grows up with his family"

Lilly looked relieved though James was still a little hesitant about the whole idea.

Dumbledore breathed a sigh of relief now that the problem had been sorted out "I must bid you farewell" Dumbledore said while turning to walk out of the room "I need to get back to Hogwarts and discuss this whole ordeal with an associate. James suddenly looking tired both nodded. Not a further word was said as the old headmaster walked out of the house and intent on going back to Hogwarts in order to have a nice chat with Snape

AN: I decided to skip over Voldemort trying to kill harry and his twin, I have read it a million times in fanfics now and I'm quite sick of it.

Probably wont be Dumbledore bashing or if there is it will be light again the wbwl trope of dumbledore wanting to sacrifice harry is overdone, probably some potter bashing though (james,lilly,jim). Unsure of pairings as of now mabey Harry/tracey?
