Chapter 41: Heavy is the head that bears the crown

The cold wind blew through luca's hair as he stood over the battlements of his castle. The boy watched the sun rise on the first day of fall; his favorite time of year.
The boy took in a breath and exhaled. He watched as the birds, weird as they were, sand there happy song and the smell of freshly baked bread made in the kitchesn wafted up to his nose.
Time to get to work. This was Luca's first day as the emperor of the boiling isles after his coronation. There were many on the isles who wanted Luca to marry so that he may have an empress who can bear his children. The boy has decided that marriage can wait.
The boy walked at a slow, leisurely pace. He reached the stairs leading down the guard tower to the castle grounds. Once he reached the bottom he was met by four guards who stood at the ready weapons drawn.
"sir, you're public awaits." the lead guard said. They were dressed in the livery of the emperor's coven of old. Something that luca allowed lilith to talk him into.
"take me to the throne room, sergeant."
"Yes sir!" the guard saluted him as they flanked him forming a square formation with Luca in the center.
They stomped through the castle grounds and entered the castle proper. The main hall of the castle was richly adorned with tapestries of emperor belos's victories. Luca didn't have the heart to tear them down due to their heritage… even though it had upset eda.
The guard procession led Luca through the mainhall and up the red carpet adorned staircase leading up to the higher rooms. They entered a second hallway this one more richly adorned with pictures and finery.
Luca enjoyed living in the castle but it seemed so much bigger then the owl house. He missed the comfort of the small house… he even missed hooty believe it or not.
The guards came upon the throne rooms double doors. Two of the procession pushed open the door and revealed a large group of witches and demons split into two groups divided by a center row which is guarded by red silk rope dividers.
When luca entered the people… his people. Cheered him on, there screams were deafening as the boy walked with a regal posture. He straightened his back and puffed out his chest exuding the power of a ruler.
This is my life now… I'm king… so I need to act like it. Luca was surprised when the boiling isles elected him as their ruler. He tried to get them to rule by committee but both the emperor and the empress had done their job too well… the people of the isles needed a single ruler.
The boy took his seat on the throne and noticed that his sister luz and her new girlfriend Vee were standing beside his throne.
Vee had taken the form of the head cheerleader who luz admitted she had a crush on. The lightly tanned skin with freckles mixed with blonde hair made her quite beautiful though vee liked wearing the same clothes as luz.
I still can't believe how fast Luz admitted her feeling. Luca thought, chuckling to himself. His sister never was a subtle one; even he didn't expect her to work this fast.
"all rise, the emperor of the boiling isles will now here the petitioners request." Luz pronouced raising her hand to quiet the appluase of the citizens.
The people formed a line that went from the bottom of the stairs that lead up to Luca's throne to the still open doors of the throne room.
The first petitioner was a pig headed demon dressed in overalls with a flanel shirt. "My emperor, it Is my request that the people of the bones borough be given a higher government stipend to pay for protection of our caravans. As you know we are at risk of attack due to the magical beasts going savage and attacking our supply caravans after the empress's banishment."
Luca nodded his head up until his coronation the many different witches who backed the empress left with her; the people of the boiling isles had much of their different supple chains disrupted by the power vacuum.
"I grant your request. The people of bonesborough as well as all the towns of our empire are the heart of our civilization."
The people in the crowd roared in approval.
The pig headed demon bowed his head and curtsied to luca. "you are most kind my emperor, thank you." the demon straigtened himself and walked away from the throne.
"Next," Luz called, reaching for her girlfriends hand.
The petitioner was an older witch with black dressed and bone colored skin. "my lord, I represent a private security firm that worked for the isles. What wish is for you to accept my proposal of paying for my group to protect the farmsteads of the boiling isles and also investing money in the pesticides that keep the demon bugs away."
"Granted, our farmsteads are important." Luca replied after a few moments of quiet comtemplation. He was lucky that odalia and lilith knew what it took to be a proper ruler otherwise luca would have no clue.
The woman did a similar bow as the farmer and walked away from the throne.
Another hour of petitioners passed as Luca allowed each request to be heard. He tried his best to say yes to all of them. But there were plenty that would either be too damaging to other parts of the kingdom to be accepted or were too expensive.
After the petitioners were finished luca sighed in relief. "Luz, what are my appoitnments for today?"
Luz was too distracted to hear luca as she kissed her girlfriends arm up and down.
Vee was giggling when luz's lips touched her skin.
"Hey lovebirds! Do I have any appointments today." Luca joked, he was happy to see his sister find someone she could love.
Luz immediately straightened and stood at attention. "Luca, you have no appointments today. I made sure to schedule nothing else on days that you receive petitioners."
Luca nodded his head. His sister made a great steward of his castle. This didn't surprise the boy in the slightest because he knew that luz had read many fantasty novels and even did research on medieval politics to help her in her former dream as a writer.
"good, then take the day off." Luca said taking a couple steps away before turning his head to vee. "And you can kiss each other as much as you want. But I don't want to catch you having sex."
"Luca!" Luz exclaimed her cheeks brightened.
The boy chuckled to himself. Leaving the room to enter the hall luca stretched. You would not believe how uncomfortable a throne is. He thought to himself.
The boy took a stroll down the hallway. Alone with his thoughts for the first time in how many days he had been an emperor. Luca never thought he'd have a harem but now that he does… it's a lot of work.
Crash
and that will require Luca's attention.
"you stupid old bitch!" a voice screamed at top of her lungs.
Oh god lenore is fighting with odalia again. Luca shook his head briskly walking toward the source of the sound. Those two need to learn to get along.
Luca came upon the two with lenore holding another vase aiming it at odalia's head. Odalia was hiding behind a counter, occasionally peeking out.
"what is the meaning of this!" Luca screamed catching both of their attention.
"she slapped me!" Lenore exclaimed pointing to a bruise on Lenore's face.
"Odalia… is this true?" Luca asked, raising an eye brow at the witch.
"Yes but, she called me a hag!" Odalia pointed at Lenore.
"well it's true!"
"Is not!"
"Is too!"
"enough! Both of you are acting like children. Apologize. Now!" Luca commanded, having had enough of this partcular spat.
"sorry," Lenore said under her breath.
"sorry," Odalia did the same thing.
"give each other a hug." Luca instructed.
Both of the girls did as they were told doing a half hearteed hug with gentle pats.
"Now I want each of you to write each other an apology letter before the end of the day. Understand?"
"Yes luca," they replied, their tones defeated and monotone.
Lenore began sniffling as tears started rolling down her face.
"Lenore? Are you okay?" Luca asked, taking a couple steps next to her. He placed his hand on her shoulder.
"You… hate… us… don't you?" She said through her sobs.
"No, lenore, no… I'm just a little upset. I could never hate you. You've been doing so good in being a better person. I know you make mistakes and I can't hate you for that. Come here." Luca gave lenore a peck on the cheek making sure that he was gentle.
The vampire seemed to calm down and wrapped her arms around Luca's neck, face suffocating inside her massive chest.
"Luca… can I have a kiss too?" Odalia asked, hopeful that luca would allow her request.
Luca in reponse took a couple quick steps and gave Odalia a peck on her cheek as well.
"Now go write your letters… and don't let me catch you fighting again."
"Yes luca, we love you." they said in unison strolling away.
"you let those girls walk all over you." a familiar authorian voice said from behind luca.
The boy turned to see the pink-skinned mother of boscha glare at luca with all three of her eyes. Her arms were crossed over her chest. She was wearing a dress the color of midnight. Beside her was minerva the mother of skara.
She was dressed in an apple colored blouse with a crimson skirt. She wore a happy smile on her freckled face. Her sandy blonde hair slicked back in a flat style. "oh leave him alone juno, we both know that he has a good heart and I think it's sweet."
"I still believe we should have locked those two up and threw away the key." minerva grumbled and letting out an agitated hum.
Luca placed his arms around juno then ran his finger down her back. He slowly rubbed her back, taking pleasure when the mother shivered.
"Oooh, me next luca, me next." Minerva raised her hand, hopping up and down like a child.
Luca released Juno and walked til he was behind minerva. He then rose his hands to the top of her head and then mimed cracking an egg all over it. He then ran his fingers down both of her sides as if he was mimicking an egg going down her body.
The witch tingled under Luca's touch. "I have never felt this kind of sensation in my life. It makes me feel so good."
"it's called an egg crack me and my mom would do it to each other all the time." Luca replied, he still felt a sting when he mentioned his mother. Even though he had given her a funeral just a month ago he still couldn't let go of her.
"well remind me to thank her if I even see her again."
Juno smacked the girl on the back of the head.
"Ouch! Luca, she hit me!" Minerva whined, holding onto Luca's arm. "Kiss it and make it better."
Luca did as instructed, pressing his lips to the sore spot on minerva's head.
The witch giggled as Luca's lips trouched her head. "That tickles luca."
juno glared at her friend and snapped her head away from the two's display.
Luca noticed this and turned his head to her. The boy snuck up to the pink skinned witch and grabbed her by the side. He pressed his lips onto her cheek and whispered in her ears, "Love you Juney."
This made juno's cheeks brighten. "thank you, l-luca…" she hicced which luca knew signified her being embarrassed.
"alright you two, I plan on relaxing in my bed for a bit… see you at supper." Luca removed himself from the two witches and took a scenic route to his bed. He passed by the prettiest paintings in the building. The ones that depicted the coven leaders throughout the ages.
They had such life and memories attached to them and luca loved that. The boy smiled as he looked at the abomination coven leader-darius- the boy thought he looked like a real mans man… a shame that Luca couldn't save him.
The boy had been trying to perfect the empresses art of reversing the stone making process but she took her journals and spellbooks with her. Luca desperately wanted to fulfill his promise to not only odalia and eda but the whole isles. There are many who have lost their family to the petrification process and luca intended to reverse it… or die trying.
"Shut up you dumb brat!" Lilith's voice carried across the room.
"It's not fair you hog him to yourself you greedy cow!" Eda screamed back.
Luca shook his head. "to think they are the ones who taught me magic." the boy casually walked toward the sounds of the witches arguing. The boy walked up to see the two in a shouting match.
"Ladies! What seems to be the problem?" Luca asked, stepping between the two arguing.
"the problem is Lilith hogs all your attention."
"I do not! You just went on a date with him two days ago."
"Yeah, but he slept with you after it."
"I'm his first girlfriend, I have the right to sleep with him whenever I want."
the two glared at each other and luca knew that this could and probably would go on for hours. So the boy stopped both of them.
"Eda, if you want me to sleep in your bed. Organize it with luz. Lilith try to be nicer to your sister."
Lilith pouted at this and crossed her arms. "Fine."
Luca wrapped his arms around lilith, pulling her into a hug. He then took her lips with his own. Enjoying the taste of her new lip gloss. He held her closer and stuck his tongue in her mouth.
The two finished their kisses and luca turned to the pouting eda. "I didn't forget about you, owl lady." luca did a similar thing to eda.
He noted that eda was a much more experienced kisser then lilith. He took her love in strides and held her close.
Luca realized though his job as emperor was hard… it was rewarding because he had a new family filled with women who love him… and a harem of cooky older women who made him feel wanted.
This is a perfect day.
