Chapter 43: Answers.

I see you have come back for another chapter of the harem anime owl house… thank you and I am sorry for the cringe. The library one of luz's favorite places anywhere she goes. She followed her sight through the bookshelves and then turned her gaze to luca who was stooped over a desk looking at documents, a concerned look on his face.
Luz walked to her brother and tapped him on the shoulder. "what'cha looking at Luca?"
"Reading," he groaned, shaking his head.
"What about?"
"well, I'm looking into the empresses notes and have discovered that she not only knows spanish… but also how to code a language to the point where I can't break it." Luca replied.
"what are you hoping to find?"
"a way to reverse the petrification process. Odalia and eda have people they care about turned to stone and I intend to reunite them. But I won't do that if I can't break this code."
"have you tried magic?" Luz used jazz hands to add some pizzazz to her words.
"First thing I tried. The documents are protected against most decoding spells." Luca rubbed the bridge of his nose as he took in a sharp breath.
Luz rubbed her chin as she tried to think of something. "Maybe if you had a cypher or something."
"Good luck with that. I don't think the empress would be willing to part with that information." Luca chuckled at his thought.
"do you really think she's me?" Luz asked, comtemplating what the empress said. "why is she so old? How did she get here?"
"Luz, I know for a fact that the empress isn't you. You're a good person and you'd never become that person… you're my sister, not a monster." Luca placed a reassuring hand on luz's shoulder.
The girl smiled warmly at her brothers touch. "you really think that highly of me? But, what if she is me?"
"She isn't."
"How do you know?"
"Luz, I've know you you're whole life… I changed your diaper when mom was tired for crying out loud! I know you don't have it in you to be as cruel and evil as the empress. Believe me luz, I know you."
A tear came to the girl's eye and she grasped her brother in a hug.
The boy held his sister close. "we'll figure this out luz. We will discover who the empress truly is… I promise."
The tender moment was ended by the clearing of a throat… lenore's throat.
"Luca, me and odalia finished helping at the soup kitchen for the bonesborough poor. Can we cuddle now." Lenore asked her red eyes filled with excitement.
Luca rolled his eyes and closed his books. "Luz, I gotta go take care of this. Don't get in any trouble while I'm gone and I better not catch you and vee getting handsy while I'm distracted." Luca replied, walking up to the vampire.
Luz shook her head at her brother. "now, I'm gonna look for a book to read to my girlfriend." Luz slitted her eyes, little did luca know that she and vee had already gotten to second base. Luz couldn't believe she netted someone as sweet as vee… she loves the basilisk girl.
The girl walked through the halls combing the shelves for what looked like a good read. She saw many titles and they all seemed interesting to her but she doesn't know if vee would like them. As she was about to give up on her search she saw it… good witch azura five… here in the library.
"Huh, maybe the empress is an older version of me." Luz chuckled nervously as she grabbed the book.

The book shelf rotated to reveal a stair case. Luz looked down and gulped. "I better go get luca… but what if the empress has secret notes down there." Luz bucked herself up and stepped confidently down the steps. She came upon a dark stone cavern which was dimly lit by purple torch light. Inside the room she saw book shelves filled with journals with picture frames on top of the shelves.
Luz looked at the pictures and noticed they were of her, luca, and there mom at various locations. "did… did she raid our house?" Luz asked, shaking her head as these pictures way older then they should be.
Luz walked up to a desk where there was a crystal ball. Luz pressed the orb and suddenly it came to life and the image of the empress appeared in the form of an illusion.
"empress log recording: this is the tale of my life and my failures. I am luz marie nocenda, witch born, earth raised, and trained by the strongest witch on the boiling isles. I remember the day I came to the boiling isles… it was the day I was supposed to be driven to camp."
Luz's eyes shot open. "No, no, no! It isn't possible."
"Luca was with me… oh my sweet brother. He was going to join me for camp so I wouldn't be alone… it wouldn't be the first time he paid for my mistakes… or the last."
Empress's illusion clenched her fists.
"we had so many adventures on the isles: stealing king's crown from warden wrath; sneaking into hexside so willow could get a good grade; attaining my frist glyph; animating the owl house; befriending amity at the library; training at the knees; defeating grom; defeaiting boscha; it was perfect… until Lilith ruined it."
Empress threw a punch at an unseen wall and a loud smash echoed in the recording.
"I was a fool! I snuck into the emperor's castle to find a way to cure eda's curse and I got captured! Luca and eda ran to save me and then she threw us off the ledge. Eda cuaght us with magic but lilith pressed us. I was going to fall to my death but luca threw me onto owlbert before Lilith could finish killing us… it cost him his life."
The empress's anger subsided.
"I still miss him." was all she said.
Luz was shook as he listened to this tale. She normaly loved backstories but this one was too dark even for her.
"I was taken before the empress with lilith and eda In her curse form. That is where belos recognized me. He revealed that he was my grandfather! The tyrant of the isles! The reason my brother was dead! Was my grandfather! That was when I realized that there are no heroes in the world and there is no justice."
"Belos in anger destroyed Lilith upon hearing of what she did to luca… served her right and then he destroyed eda in her rampage. He then comforted me. The emperor took me under his wing and once I was strong enough I used magic to drain him and then as my final mercy I slit his throat… bastard."
Luz was frozen upon hearing of how ruthless the empress wide. Her eyes wide and she looked like a baby deer complete with shaking.
"I am cursed, I am a monster. That is why I allow the creature to remind me of my failures. It took me over thirty years to find a reality where luca was alive. I have gather everything needed to keep him safe and with me… all I have to do is sever all his ties with his old life… including the version of me that resides in this domain."
The empress image cut out after that and luz placed her hand over her quivering mouth and ran out of the room, she barreled toward her room and prayed vee wasn't there.
She was happy to find that the room was empty and she jumped into it and hid under the covers… crying.
She is me… I'm responsible for mom's death… it's my fault.
