Hi, everyone. Here is my story for the Inspirational Quotes Challenge from the BTR Writers' Support and Plot Adoption Forum. The challenge was to write a story based on an inspirational quote, and the quote I chose is "Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud," by Maya Angelou.

Trigger warning for mentions of a panic attack.

I hope you enjoy.

The edges of his vision were starting to become clouded by darkness, his hands shaking uncontrollably by his sides. One moment, he was standing in front of the classroom, ready to present a group project in front of the whole class. The next, the words in front of him on the white board had started to become a blur that he couldn't quite make out. His head was spinning. He felt like he couldn't breathe.

Reaching out blindly, he grabbed on to the first person he could find, letting out a sound that sounded more like a whimper than a cry for help. He felt hands on his shoulders and someone was saying his name, first in a confused tone, and then in a more urgent one.

He didn't remember much after that.

When he woke up, he was lying on his bed, and his head was throbbing painfully. Rolling over onto his side, he was surprised to find Kendall seated next to him on his desk chair, his eyebrows scrunched up with worry.

"Careful," Kendall said as he placed a hand against his back and attempted to guide him into a sitting position when he tried to do it on his own.

The dizziness was now gone, but he still felt shaky all over, and humiliated on top of that.

"Thanks," he said quietly, without looking Kendall in the eye.

"Are you feeling okay?" Kendall asked. He reached for the nightstand next to the bed and handed him what he had grabbed from it. It was a plastic cup with cold water inside it. "Here. This might help."

"Thank you." He took the cup in his hands, took a small sip, and then placed it on his lap, with his hands around it. Somehow, the coldness coming from it made him feel a bit more calm. "I'm… I'm fine. I'm sorry."

"Sorry for what?"

"I probably ruined any chance we had of getting a good grade."

"You did not," Kendall said, frowning. "Miss Collins said she'd give us another chance. And you have nothing to be sorry for."

"Feels like I do." He felt tears pricking at his eyes, but he blinked them back. "I haven't had one that bad in a while. I-I didn't think that would happen. It's just… everyone's eyes were on me, and I panicked."

"I know." Kendall's frown deepened. "Here, scoot over," he said as he stood from the chair.

Hesitantly, Logan did as he was told, giving Kendall enough room to sit down. He felt Kendall's arms wrap around him as soon as he was seated, pulling him to his side. Sighing softly, he let him and shielded his face against Kendall's shoulder, feeling the tears prick at his eyes again.

"Your hands are still shaking," Kendall noted as he pulled the cup from Logan's fingers and placed it back on the nightstand. "Are you sure you're feeling okay?"

"I feel sort of sick," Logan said after a few seconds had ticked by. He sniffled and wrapped his arms around himself subconsciously. "I think I'm just drained."

"Do you want to rest some more? I can go."

"No," Logan said a bit too quickly. His cheeks grew hot at the realization. "Stay, please? I don't… I'd rather not be alone right now."

"Okay," Kendall said, his voice low. Logan was hardly ever like this, so he knew he really must have not been feeling well. "But try to get some rest, okay?"

Slowly, Logan nodded. "Okay."

He pulled away from Kendall and laid back on the bed, pulling the comforter up to his shoulders and curling in on himself. He closed his eyes, but opened them a second later when he felt Kendall shift next to him, thinking he was going to leave.

"I'm just giving you some more room," Kendall quickly reassured him as he settled back against the headboard.

"I'm sorry."

"No reason to be sorry."

"I'm being clingy."

"Logie, you just had a pretty bad panic attack. I think you're allowed to be as clingy as you want," Kendall told him.

"I just… feel annoying sometimes, and I… I should be able to present in front of others without that happening."

"You aren't being annoying," Kendall said. He reached over, gripping one of Logan's hands with his own. "And it's not your fault it happened. We all know that."

Logan didn't say anything. He just tightened his hold on Kendall's hand and closed his eyes again. He felt like if he didn't, he would actually start crying, and he really didn't want that.

"Get some sleep," Kendall whispered as he lightly tousled Logan's hair with his free hand. "I'll be here when you wake up."

"Thank you," Logan whispered back and slowly let go of Kendall's hand.

In the living room, Carlos and James were seated on the couch, talking in hushed voices.

"Should we go check on him? It's been over half an hour."

"I think we should give him some space. At least for a little while longer," James said as he ran a hand through his hair. "Kendall's with him. He's in good hands."

"I know." Carlos bit on his bottom lip, his eyes staring longingly in the direction of their rooms. "It's just… that was pretty scary."

"I know…"

At that moment, they heard footsteps coming down the hallway, and it wasn't long before Kendall walked into the living room.

"Is Logan okay?" Carlos asked, beating James to it.

"He's alright," Kendall said, stopping in front of them. "A bit shaken up, but he should be okay."

"Do you think it'd be okay if we went in?" James asked, but Kendall shook his head.

"Not right now. He's sleeping. Maybe in a bit?"

Both James and Carlos looked disappointed, but they nodded understandingly.

"I was actually thinking… maybe we could do something for him?" Kendall suggested. "I'm not exactly sure what, but I think he could use a little pick me up."

"We'll brainstorm," Carlos said with a grin.

"Me too," Kendall said, smiling. "But I'll text you. He asked me to stay with him, and I don't want to be away from him longer than I have to, in case he wakes up."

"Okay," the two of them said in unison.

"Let us know if you need anything," James added before Kendall turned to walk away.

"I will. Thanks."

Walking back into the room, Kendall breathed a sigh of relief at seeing Logan still fast asleep. He had been worried he would wake up in the short amount of time he was gone.

Slowly, he sank back on the bed and pulled out his phone, typing up a quick text to both James and Carlos.

Any ideas? - Kendall

Not me, but Carlos had one - James

There's a new museum that opened downtown a couple of weeks ago - Carlos

We should take him! - Carlos

Putting his phone down for a moment, Kendall turned to where Logan was laying, at first glance only looking like a pile under the comforter, with hair sticking out. He smiled sadly, and looked back down at his phone, typing out a quick reply.

It sounds perfect. - Kendall

When Logan awoke it was well past six in the evening. Rolling onto his side, he was surprised to find Kendall still sitting next to him, one pillow propped under his head. His mouth was slightly open, eyes closed shut.

At the sound of Logan moving around, though, he slowly blinked his eyes open and turned to Logan, a small smile coming to his face. "Hey," he said as he rubbed a hand over his eyes. "You okay?"

Logan nodded. "Yeah. It's… It's been like four hours," he said quietly. "I didn't think you'd still be here.

"I said I would be, didn't I?"

Smiling softly, Logan nodded. "Yeah, you did."

Yawning, Kendall stretched his arms out in front of him, and then proceeded to swing his legs over the side of the bed. "My mom was making dinner last time I checked. Are you hungry?"

"Maybe a little."

"Come on." He lightly patted Logan's shoulder, and after washing their hands, the two walked out of the room.

Walking into the living room felt suffocating. All eyes were on him the minute he stepped around the corner, and all at once, everyone was asking him if he was okay.

Wishing he could vanish under everybody's gaze, Logan forced a smile onto his face and quietly said "I'm okay," in the hopes that everyone would back off a bit.

"Dinner's on the stove," Mrs. Knight said as she gave Logan a small smile. "I made meatloaf. Your favorite."

Unable to hide the smile on his face, Logan walked towards the kitchen, Kendall close behind him. "Thanks, Mama Knight."

"Yeah, thanks, Mom."

The two of them ate in silence, seeing as everybody else had already eaten.

As soon as they were done, Carlos made his way to where they were seated at the island, unable to contain his excitement. "So… we have a surprise for you!"

"Carlos!" James and Kendall both shouted at the same time, glaring at him.

"It was supposed to be a surprise!" Kendall said.

"I didn't say what it was!"

"Yeah, but we weren't gonna say anything!"

"Oops."

"You have a surprise… for me?" Logan asked, looking between the three of them as James started to walk over as well.

"Yeah. We wanted to do something to cheer you up," James said with a grin.

"Oh. You guys don't have to…"

"We want to," Kendall said as he wrapped an arm around Logan's shoulders. "Please?"

Thinking it over, Logan stayed quiet for a few seconds, until finally, he gave in. "Okay."

"Great! Because we're going tomorrow."

"We're going somewhere?" Logan asked, raising an eyebrow at Carlos.

"Carlos."

"I didn't say where!"

Rolling his eyes, Kendall turned to Logan. "Yes, we're going somewhere, but we're not telling you where until we get there."

"You really don't have to, though."

"Let us do this one thing for you," James said, taking the seat across from Kendall. "You do so much for us all the time."

"Yeah. We love you, Logie," Kendall said, as he wrapped both of his arms around him tightly.

Shoving him playfully, Logan shook his head from side to side. "Alright, alright." He chuckled, grinning at all three of them. "And I love you guys, too."

The next morning, the four boys climbed into the BTR Mobile, with Kendall driving the vehicle, since Logan didn't know where it was that they were headed. The trip took a little over twenty minutes, and Logan asked where they were going at least five times within that time, but none of them gave him so much as a hint.

Slumping against his seat, Logan finally gave up, a pout coming to his face. But that pout instantly vanished when the car finally came to a stop outside a museum parking lot.

"We're… going to a museum?" he asked, looking back to Kendall, and then to James and Carlos, who were in the backseat. "But, you guys hate museums."

"Eh. We know you love them, and we figured afterwards we could go get ice cream and maybe go see a movie, if you're up for it?"

"I'd love that," Logan said, smiling widely at Kendall. "Thank you, all three of you. This… it means a lot."

"We also convinced Miss Collins to let us present just in front of her. We thought maybe it would make things easier for you," Carlos said, giving Logan's shoulder a light squeeze.

"Really?"

"Really."

"Guys…" Logan wiped under his eyes with his sweater sleeve as a tear started to spill. "I don't know what to say… Thank you. That definitely does help."

"We're glad," James said, before pushing his door open. "Now come on. We've got a long day ahead of us."

Smiling from ear to ear, Logan stepped out of the car, breathing in deeply. At least he knew that with the boys by his side, today would be better than yesterday.

I apologize if the ending sounded a bit rushed. I had to start over and wrote this in like a day, lol. Thank you for reading, though. Please make sure to read Ash9's story for the challenge as well! We also have a Halloween challenge going on right now, so if you're interested in participating, please let me know. :)
