One of the nice things regarding Hawaii? It forever remained a great day to be in Paradise. At least, that seemed the case concerning two university students at the moment. Hiccup Haddock plus his girlfriend Astrid Hofferson were spending the summer in Hawaii. Their university had sent the rest of the class for summer to multiple locations worldwide to help deal with emergencies.
Currently, the young couple is at an oceanic biology research laboratory, where they're working with dolphins and whales. It was a lot of fun. Not to mention all the exercise they're getting from being in the water so much.
Hiccup had developed a powerful bond with a jet-black dolphin they'd saved from a careless fisherman's net. Naming him Toothless, given he lacked a lot of teeth. Right now, the two were bonding as they swam out in the lagoon. The senior members of the research lab have been instructing him how to communicate with dolphins.
"Okay, Toothless, let's try this one more time," as he made a sign telling Toothless he wanted his swim backward on his tail. Toothless happily complied but also added his own twist to it. Making sure to whistle water right into Hiccup's face!
The young man couldn't stop laughing at it all. Then the pair hugged each other. Their moment was broken, however, when Astrid came running out and immediately jumped into a speedboat. "Astrid?! What's the matter?! What's the hurry?!" called out her boyfriend.
"The lab just reported a hazardous vessel not far from here. It's injured a pod of rare Light Fury dolphins. We've to get them asap if we're going to save them! According to the report, they've young that have been grievously injured!"
"Toothless! Take me there!" as Hiccup grabbed Toothless's dorsal fin and they pair sped off with Astrid in hot pursuit. It didn't take long for them to reach the spot. To their surprise, the ship seemed completely abandoned for no obvious reason. Still, they set to work working to rescue the young, a tiny female whose tail had been injured by the crewless vessel.
Eventually, the rest of the researcher members came over to help get the pod of eight back to the lab to care for them. They're kept super busy for several weeks attempting to heal the pod.
About a month later, when everyone's prognosis looked good, a terrible accident happened—something overloaded in the lab caused a disastrous fire. But, thanks to Hiccup and Astrid, they all got out safely. The lab also didn't sustain too much damage as they reacted quickly.
Sadly the end of the summer came too quickly for all of them. The couple promised. However, they return on their next break. They also made sure to promise their animal friends they'd return too. With heavy hearts, they climbed aboard a plane to take them back to Dragon City. They hoped the days would pass quickly so they could return as quickly as possible!
