Summary: Alec was gay and worse yet, he was an alpha in love with another alpha. A pirate, at that. When the time comes that his parents arrange a match for him, Alec plans that his lover Magnus would kidnap him. Only that the omega Alec gets wed of to is a man and... his childhood love, Jace. So Magnus steals them both.
Captain Bane's Most Treasured Booty
Life on Board the Pandemonium
Alexander Lightwood was the alpha heir to the Lightwood lordship.
Yet Alec was more than that. He knew he was a disgrace to the family name, because he loved men. There was nothing appealing about women, not to him. Yet as the firstborn son and an alpha, he knew, he was going to get wed off to a good match. An honorable match. An omega woman.
When it came to being a disgrace, Alec had decided to double down on it. Not only did he love another man, no, the man he loved was also an alpha, just like Alec. There was leeway. A male alpha could be with a male omega, because in the greater hierarchy of things, it was even more important for an alpha to be with an omega than it was for a man to be with a woman. Still, ideally the match would be alpha and omega, man and woman. Besides, male omegas were so incredibly rare. Just like female alphas. So, those were generally, if possible, mated off to each other.
Alec knew the island they lived on. There were no male omegas here. He had a pretty good hunch which ladies his parents would pick for him. He was going to be wed off so the family would gain something. Good ties to other rich families, money, land, shipping contracts.
A groan was ripped from his throat as he was pushed against the wall, the goatee of his love scratching the skin of his neck, lips kissing along it. Elegant but firm hands wandering down Alec's chest, around his waist and then to cup his ass. Squeezing it tightly. There was nothing that could take Alec out of his head the way one Magnus Bane could.
"You are even more distracted than usual, my love," whispered Magnus.
Magnus was a pirate. A male alpha pirate. Like the walking formula to make Alec's parents die of a heart-attack. Magnus' hand slipped down to cup Alec's thigh, hoisting it up and getting more comfortable between Alec's legs. Oh, if his parents knew that Alec got fucked by a pirate. Alec clung tightly onto Magnus, tilting his head back to rest it against the wall.
"Mother announced my engagement," was Alec's reply, his voice empty.
Magnus paused in his motions, slowly moving off him so he could properly look at his lover. Their eyes met and Magnus' were so warm and understanding. Despite everything, Alec had always tried to make his parents proud, be the perfect heir. Tilting his head, Magnus leaned in to kiss him gently. The previous passion gone, replaced with warmth and love.
"What will you do, darling?" Magnus' voice was soft and patient.
"I'll... get married. Do the right thing for the family," replied Alec, swallowing hard.
He could see the sadness in his lover's eyes and before Magnus could say something, Alec continued. "And then I will die in a fire, during a raid when pirates ravage our estate."
Curiosity sparkled in Magnus' eyes as he looked up. "Oh, will you now?"
An awkward half-shrug was the reply he got from Alec. "It... was an idea. If the wedding happens, the poor omega chosen to wed me would at least be left well-off, taken care of. Could start anew as a widow. And I could finally get out of here. I can't... do this anymore. I can't continue lying. I can't continue seeing you every few weeks or even months. I want to be with you, Magnus. I love you."
Magnus' breath hitched at that and the smile slowly growing on his lips was blinding. "I love you too, darling. And I would love to steal you away. You would be my most valuable treasure."
"Cheesy," Alec huffed, burying his face in Magnus' neck. "But can we do it?"
"Absolutely. I haven't raided this village in three years. Since we first met. Only sneaking here in the cover of night to be with you. There's nothing to connect me to you. We could come in, raid the place, make sure the wifey will be safe and unharmed, and I take you."
"Mh, I love when you take me," Alec grinned playfully at him.
"Naughty," Magnus laughed, kissing the corner of Alec's lip. "Let me know when the wedding happens and when you want us to hit and I will arrange everything else. Make sure you have packed all you truly can not leave behind. Including your sister. And then we can leave this place forever."
At the mention of his sister, Alec looked up, smiling softly. Their youngest sibling, Max, was off on the continent in a boarding school, but Isabelle lived here. And their parents were looking for matches for her too, something she bemoaned too. Not for the same reasons as Alec, but because she wanted to find real love out there. They had both seen their parents' loveless arranged marriage and neither of them wanted that. Alec softly pressed his lips against Magnus' in a gentle kiss.
"We can't do it directly after the wedding. It might seem suspicious. We will wait, say, two weeks? I can... fake being a heterosexual husband for that long, can I?"
Magnus looked little convinced, just to get lightly slapped on the arm, making him laugh. "I believe in you, darling. Two weeks. Let's make it fifteen days after your wedding?"
"Sounds perfect. Fifteen days and then I get to be happy, with the love of my life."
"I'm looking forward to it," Magnus' voice was breathy, his smile loving.

Today was the day. The day before Alec's wedding. His future omega had arrived today. Alec had made sure to keep busy, stay away from home for as long as he possibly could. Trying to avoid the future 'wifey', as Magnus liked to put it. Tomorrow, he was going to marry this stranger and for fifteen days, he would have to play the husband. He couldn't wait for that to be over.
Still, at one point he had to return home. At the door, he paused, taking a deep breath. Time to meet the other person stuck in this situation. It wasn't her fault, after all. If anything, she probably had even less of a say in this matter than Alec had. Straightening his back, he entered the estate.
"Your fiance is waiting in your bedroom," Isabelle informed him with a broad grin.
The grin was what confused Alec. Why would she be grinning? Shaking it off, Alec made his way upstairs and toward his bedroom. When he opened the door, he saw someone sitting on a chair at the window, gazing out over the sea. Alec loved doing that, loved watching the waves, imagining that he could see the Pandemonium soaring through the water. The first thing Alec noticed about his fiance was the golden-blonde hair that fell softly down over the shoulders. Though then his fiance turned around and Alec was startled to realize he was looking at a man.
"Who are you?" asked Alec, slowly closing the door.
"I am your fiance, Lord Lightwood," the blonde stood up and carefully approached him, stepping into the light in the room. "I... I'm Jonathan Wayland."
Jonathan Wayland? Wayland? Alec's eyes widened. He came to meet the other half-way. Slender but trained, Alec could tell. This up close, Alec could get a proper look at the other's face. Plush, pink lips, sharp cheekbones and... the eyes. Alec's own eyes widened as he grasped the other's face, bringing it close so he could properly see them. Ice-blue, but the corner of his left eye was golden-brown. Like the sun rising into the sky over the sea in the morning.
"Jace," the name was barely a breath as it spilled form Alec's lips.
Suddenly, the blonde's previously timid expression melted away and into a bright, relieved smile. "You remember me. I was... worried. It's been so long. I thought you might have forgotten."
While Jace spoke, Alec wrapped his arms tightly around the blonde, pulling him into an all-consuming hug. After a moment's pause did Jace return the hug, wrapping his own arms around Alec. It was as though a weight had been lifted off Jace's shoulders as he melted into Alec's arms. With his nose buried in Jace's hair, he could smell it. Jace was an omega. He smelled of strawberries and honey. A delicious scent. Soft and sweet. Of course did Alec remember Jace. He could never forget Jace. Jace had been his first love. Childhood friends, the first time Alec's stomach had fluttered in excitement for someone. They had only been children.
"What... What are you doing here?" asked Alec confused. "I haven't seen you in nearly ten years."
"I'm your fiance," repeated Jace. "Father... he... When I started to present, he basically pulled me out of society. Kept me away, to avoid anyone learning from his great shame. His only son, an omega. But when your parents reached out, looking for a male omega... it was ideal. There aren't many female alphas at all, father had been looking for one for me. But if he could get rid of me and secure ties with the Lightwoods? It was... a perfect match."
Jace, his oldest friend and first love, the boy he never thought he'd see again, was an omega. Was his fiance. Was that... Had his parents put one and one together? Looked for a male omega, to make Alec comply in this? This was a lot to take in and Alec didn't know how to feel about it all.

The wedding was beautiful. Jace looked stunning in his white robes, with flowers woven into his hair. It took Alec's breath away. It did not make Alec forget Magnus – he loved Magnus so fiercely – but it reminded him of how much he had loved Jace once. They kissed and it was electric, it was better than Alec had ever imagined. And then they danced, for hours did they dance. People laughed and cheered, both their parents were there. Everyone who mattered from the trading company and important associates were there to congratulate them. Alec hand-fed Jace the first piece of wedding cake. The whole thing felt like it was out of a dream. And then Alec carried Jace over the threshold into Alec's bedroom. Their bedroom, now. He gently placed Jace on the bed and for a moment, Alec was taken aback by just how breathtaking Jace looked, all flushed, hair a mess from all the dancing, eyes glowing as he looked at Alec tentatively.
Alec swallowed hard as he leaned in and kissed Jace's forehead. "I'm not having sex with you."
"Right. Yeah. Of course not," Jace chuckled slightly as he sat up. "You don't... This is... I'm just glad it's you. We were... friends, once. I hope we can... become friends again."
"We weren't just friends, Jace. You were my best friend," Alec took Jace's hands into his and looked deeply into Jace's eyes to convey how serious he was. "We're friends. I promise I will always treat you with respect and friendship. And... And part of that is being honest with you."
"Alec...?" Jace frowned concerned. "What is it?"
"I have someone... a... lover. I love him very much. He's..." Alec's face screwed up as he considered how much truth he should tell Jace. "He means the world to me and I wouldn't cheat on him."
"Oh," Jace averted his eyes, not looking at Alec. "It's... Alec, like I said, I just hoped to find a friend in my husband, if it is you. That was the only hope I had when I heard it's you."
Right. Of course. Jace was most likely not even interested in men. Friendship. It was stupid, why did Alec's heart ache? He had Magnus, whom he loved beyond belief. Jace had been a childhood love, many years ago. They had both simply been boys. There shouldn't be an ache.
"There... is more," Alec whispered, getting more comfortable on the bed.
"You can tell me," Jace frowned. "I know you probably don't trust me anymore. It's been... It's been seven years since we last saw each other. You... have no reason to trust me."
That was absolutely true. Jace had been gone for seven years. Who knew how much he had changed? How much his father had changed him? Alec sighed, rubbing his face.
"There's a lot to be talked about but it's late and the wedding was exhausting. Do you mind if we just sleep for now? And talk tomorrow?" suggested Alec after a beat.
The smile Jace forced wasn't overly convincing, but he nodded nonetheless. The two got undressed separately, awkwardly. It was stilted. Strange. This was their wedding night. They were supposed to consume their marriage. Instead, the two of them laid next to each other in the bed. Alec frowned as he spotted the bruising on Jace's ribs. Without thinking about it, he reached out to trace it. Jace instinctively flinched away, before catching his breath and visibly forcing himself to stand still.
"So your... father did not grow kinder in his age," Alec's voice was a dull whisper.
Jace turned away so he wouldn't have to look at Alec and he didn't answer aloud. He didn't have to. Alec knew that Jace's father used to beat him, for every little thing. Back then, Alec had just been a child too. There was nothing he could do then. Now, Alec was a rich, influential lord and Jace's husband and alpha. Furrowing his brows, Alec gently pulled Jace into a hug.
"He will never hurt you again," the promise was made in a deep, honest voice, whispered against Jace's neck. "I will never allow him to hurt you again, Jace."
The omega seemed to melt at those words, curling against Alec and sobbing softly in relief. All Alec did was hold him, gently caress his back and wait for Jace to calm down and fall asleep in his arms. There was no way Alec was going to leave Jace behind. No way in hell.

When Jace woke up in the morning, he felt well-rested but still exhausted. Bone-tired, emotionally. The past few weeks had been a wild ride for him, ever since his father had announced he was to be mated off. Only on the ship had Michael Wayland told him who he was getting mated off to. The knowledge had left Jace giddy and nervous at the same time. Alexander Lightwood.
Once upon a time, Alec had been the singularly most important person in Jace's life. His best friend, the one he could trust with everything. They went on little adventures through the forest. They had laughed together, went swimming together. Laid on the grass to stare at the sky and spin fantastic tales of their future. Lord Wayland and Lord Lightwood. They would be the best of friends, they would be powerful. No one would get to boss them around anymore. Jace had dreamed of becoming a captain, so he would be useful in the family business while also getting the chance to be far away from his father. They had considered that maybe, one day, Jace and Izzy could get married and then Jace and Alec would be brothers-in-law. Or at least, Jace had considered that.
Not because he had feelings for Isabelle. Well, he supposed he did; friendship. He loved her and Alec, they were his only friends. So by default, Isabelle was his favorite girl in the world, because she was kind of the only girl he really knew. And that seemed like a good foundation for a marriage, right? Mutual trust and friendship and then building up on that.
Or at least that was what Jace had been picturing as a little boy and what he imagined a good marriage would be. What he had imagined his own life to be. He wanted to be a Lightwood. Yes, the parents weren't the warmest, Jace hated the way Maryse treated Isabelle, holding her to an impossible standard and wanting her to be the primmest and most proper young lady, and their marriage was one of convenience and certainly not love, but Jace loved Alec, Izzy and their little brother Maxie too. He wanted to be a part of that.
But then he had presented, as an omega. Michael had been outraged. That day had been the worst beating Jace had ever gotten in his life. They moved away, to a different home the Wayland family had. Supposedly for business, but in reality because everyone in Idris knew Jace. They would ask questions if he disappeared from society. The place they moved to, no one knew Jace, no one questioned that Michael home-schooled his son, that they didn't really leave their estate far off in the mountains, away from the city. There was no one who cared about Jace.
Even though Alec and Izzy couldn't do anything about the abuse, they listened to him, they distracted him, for a few hours a day, they made him feel happy and safe. Now that was gone. Now, all there was was his father and his father's anger and disappointment, so much worse than it used to be, because Jace was no longer the alpha heir who needed to do better, he was the omega disappointment that brought shame to the Wayland name.
As scary as the thought of marrying a total stranger was, marriage had become Jace's only escape plan. He couldn't imagine his future husband to be much worse than his father, he thought that chances were, he would be... kinder. Even if not kind, maybe, if Jace was good, his husband would be pleased and they could be civil with each other. If nothing else, he would finally get to go somewhere else, see something else. But then he learned it was Alec and... he felt hopeful.
Alec had been his best friend. Even if they would no longer be as close as they used to be, they could become friends again, right? If Alec remembered him. It had been seven years, maybe Alec had moved on and forgotten him. That moment when Alec had muttered Jace's name, it felt as though every worry melted away from Jace and he sank into Alec's arms.
Hope overwhelmed him, until Alec told him no. No to their wedding night, because Alec already had a mate, a mate he loved. Jace hadn't known his heart was able to break any more than his father had broken it over the years, but the shattering of hope had been horrible.
Still, last night, Jace got to fall asleep in Alec's arms, to Alec promising him he'd be safe.
"You're awake already. I wanted to wake you with breakfast. I should have been faster."
Jace blinked slowly and turned toward the door. Ah. There he was, Jace's husband. Alec, fully dressed, carrying a silver tray with a tea-cup and food on it. Slowly, Jace sat up on their bed.
"What... is all of this?" asked Jace as the tray was put down in front of him.
"Breakfast," Alec grinned and sat down next to Jace. "It's your first day as a Lightwood, I thought... I don't know, I wanted to do something nice for you. And considering how long we danced last night at our wedding, I thought you deserve to sleep in and not having to socialize during breakfast, so I saved you something of everything. Did you sleep well?"
"I... Yes, I... I did," Jace furrowed his brows as he looked at the breakfast.
"Okay, which part of breakfast confuses you," Alec raised his eyebrows amused.
"The part where you brought it to me. And where I get breakfast after oversleeping."
He was honest and blunt, that was just who he was, but the look on Alec's face made him regret it. He had forgotten how much Michael's behavior toward Jace always upset Alec. It made Jace feel strangely warm, that Alec felt that way about him.
"Regardless of when you wake up, you will always get food in this house," promised Alec seriously. "You can go to the kitchen and get yourself something at all times of the day, okay? All times. You don't... You don't get punished for missing a meal-time, I promise."
Jace nodded slowly as he started eating. "You... wanted to tell me something. Yesterday."
Alec winced and nodded. "The... The man I told you about, my... my mate. There is more."
More than Alec having someone he loved? Jace didn't know if he really wanted to hear that.
"When I learned that my parents had arranged a match for me... I suspected they'd done so with a female omega. And I'm not... interested in women, or in marrying a stranger in general. So I talked to Magnus and we came up with a plan, together. To allow me to escape."
"Okay..." Jace nodded slowly before taking a bite off his croissant.
"He is a pirate. A pirate captain, actually. So we planned that... fifteen days after our wedding, him and his crew would come and... attack. Burn down the estate. Make it look like Izzy and I died in the fire, while in reality, we'd be escaping with him and the crew," explained Alec patiently.
Jace swallowed hard and stared at Alec in horror and despair. Alec and Izzy were going to leave. Jace was going to be alone again. Worse yet, a widowed omega, he might get some money from the Lightwood family, but he was going to have to return to his father. Jace couldn't breathe.
"Jace. Jace, look at me," Alec's voice was firm as he grasped Jace by the shoulders. "Look at me. I made you a promise last night and I meant it. I will not let him hurt you again."
"But you just said you're leaving," Jace hated how desperate he sounded.
"With you," clarified Alec seriously. "I will only leave here with you. I will not leave you behind."
For a few moments, Jace simply stared at him in confusion, before he huffed slightly and turned to look away. "Right. I'm sure your mate will be on board with that."
"Firstly, you don't know my Magnus," Alec grasped Jace's face and turned it so the blonde was looking at him again. "Magnus is kind and good, he would not turn someone away who needed help. And secondly, you are my mate too. We might not have chosen it consciously, but we are mates now, Jace. And you are important to me, I will not leave you, okay?"
"...Right", Jace's voice was unconvincing even to himself.
With a sigh did Alec let go of Jace and lean back. "I get that this is... a lot. You have two weeks to adjust to this, think about it. But... this will happen, in two weeks' time."
Jace turned away, looking at his food instead. Somehow, he had now lost his appetite.
/break\
Jace was sitting at the large windows in the living room, staring out longingly when Alec and Isabelle came down the stairs. He turned to watch them. Oh, Alec was so handsome in his tailored suit. Though Izzy cleaned up nicely too and considering how put-up she looked, she had plans.
"I'm going to town, buy some things for..." Isabelle paused and then just winked.
Ah, the leaving for a new life. Jace forced a smile and nodded slowly. Alec paused on the steps, frowning at Jace. In Jace's experience, making alphas frown was never a good thing. Even if that was Alec, he got a little worried and tensed up when Alec changed directions to head to him.
"You've been here for three days now," noted Alec softly.
"I... yes...?" Jace wasn't sure where Alec was going with this.
"You haven't been to town once," continued Alec. "Aren't there others, aside from us, that you'd like to see? Or places you'd like to visit? Shops? You only brought a bare minimum of belongings. You should buy things before we leave too, you know. I'm not trying to rush you, if you're not comfortable with that yet, then take your time, I was just..."
Jace's face screwed up in confusion. He didn't know what to do, or how to express what he felt.
"Alec..." Jace closed his eyes and sighed, tilting his head back. "I... I hadn't left the Wayland Estate in seven years. H... He never let me leave it..."
"...Oh," Alec made a face before he covered it with both his hands. "I hadn't... I'm sorry. Jace. You're not a prisoner here, you can leave any time you want."
On a conceptual level, Jace should have known that. Because Alec wasn't Michael. But he had been conditioned to expect certain things for a long time now. He hadn't thought about Michael or Alec specifically, he had just thought about how he was not allowed to go through the door and leave the house, or else he would be punished. Because people would smell him, realize the Wayland heir was a male omega, he would bring shame to the family, he-
"Jace," Alec's voice was soft as it interrupted Jace's thoughts. "What do you say, we go to town together? All three of us? There are some things I wanted to get too."
"I don't need you to babysit me, Alec," Jace glowered annoyed.
"I'm not trying to babysit you. I'm just... It's been a while since you were out in public like that, I thought you might be more comfortable if I would come with you. And I thought it would be nice for the three of us to do something together again. Like back in the day."
At that, the glower melted from Jace's face and he smiled softly. Those were... nice memories. The three of them running through the streets together, sneakily scoring sweets from the baker that they would then share together at the shore. Memories like this were what had kept him going through the past seven years. Slowly, he nodded his agreement and got up.
"Okay. Let's... Let's go together. I guess I don't exactly own sea-faring clothes..."
"You would look good in a pirate get-up," offered Isabelle in a very soft voice.
Jace huffed out a laugh, while Alec made a strange noise. Concerned, Jace looked at his mate, just to have Alec shake it off and smile at him reassuringly. Strange. Then again, Alec was generally rather strange at times. It was part of his charms, if Jace was being honest.
"If you see anything you want, and I mean anything at all, you tell me, okay?"
Though Jace nodded in confirmation, he also knew he wasn't going to do it. He wasn't the type to ask for things. And having Alec buy him stuff felt weird, considering he wasn't really Alec's mate. The three left the estate together and took the carriage to town. Once they reached the town, Jace was glad that Alec was at his side. It was overwhelming. Much more than the wedding had been; it had at least been a controlled environment and people gave him space, since he was the one being wed off and no one wanted to step on Alec's toes by getting to up and personal with Alec's new omega. But here? On the market place? Personal space was a concept and one that was generally disregarded in favor of rushing through the place and getting their own business done. Jace could feel safer between Isabelle and Alec, holding onto Alec's arm.
They went to a dress shop first, for Isabelle. She wanted something more comfortable and useful, for the journey. Alec and Jace simply sat by while she tried on things and had them adjusted. It was a good start, because Jace was out, but in a shop, among a limited amount of people. Slowly able to adjust. And to banter with Izzy and Alec. More and more, Jace relaxed.
"Okay. These will do. You don't need more than three new dresses," declared Alec.
"I guess you're right, but they're so pretty," Izzy pouted a little.
"We ought to buy meat for dinner, I promised the cook," noted Alec. "And I want to buy something nice for Magnus. I was thinking maybe a ring, or a pendant..."
"Jewelry. Very good idea," Isabelle grinned pleased now.
She hooked arms with Jace and, with a skip in her steps, led the way to the market. Jace wanted to question her, because he could see the jeweler down the street in the other direction. Though he was quickly distracted by the market. The fine silk, the scent of cheese, fresh bread and flowers.
"Pick whatever you want," commented Alec as Jace lingered in front of a berry-stand.
"I wouldn't... mind some... strawberries," offered Jace reluctantly.
Alec nodded and laid an arm around Jace's waist. "You heard my husband, a basket of strawberries. And I think we're also taking some of the blueberries – our cook makes an excellent blueberry tart."
All Jace did was nod at that. So far, the food at the Lightwood estate had been good, so he'd take Alec's word for it. Alec accepted the goods from the merchant and the two continued on their way, following Isabelle, who was looking at fabrics.
"We just bought you three new dresses," noted Jace suspiciously.
"Yes. Me. But I think this color would suit you very well," argued Isabelle with a grin.
Jace just rolled his eyes, though then he saw the way Alec looked at him. He seemed to agree with Isabelle. Reluctantly, Jace took the fabric. He wrapped it around himself once.
"I could make you a shirt out of that," offered Isabelle. "C'mon."
"Okay, fine," Jace sighed and accepted it, though his eyes caught another piece of fabric. "But you have to take this, Alec. That blue would look very good on you."
Alec flushed, which Jace thought suited him very well, while Isabelle laughed and grabbed both fabrics. "That's a deal. I can work with that. And Jace is right, it will look good on you."
Finally, they reached the booth of the jeweler. Beautiful trinkets were laid out on the table. Isabelle was trying on a pendant with a red gem at its heart, while Alec was looking at various rings. Though jewelry wasn't entirely Jace's thing, he had to admit they were pretty.
"Nothing for you, Jace?" asked Alec, twirling a heavy ring in his hand.
"Not really my thing," Jace shrugged, his eyes wandering.
"Would you mind going to get fresh bread then? You can get whatever sweets you want too."
He handed Jace a small pouch with gold-coins. For a moment, Jace paused and just stared at them. Alec had... just handed him money. And then let him go somewhere alone. The whole concept was strange to Jace, so he took a deep breath and nodded. He could do this, on his own. The baker was just a few stands away. It was silly, truly. He didn't need Alec with him. Still, there was a part of his brain that was telling him he wouldn't be safe alone, that he could be... taken away, locked away again, or something. It wasn't rational, he knew that. Didn't change it though.
"Hello. I'd like... two loafs of bread. And..." Jace's eyes wandered. "Are those strawberry tarts?"
"Yes, they are," replied the woman behind the desk kindly.
"I'll... have one of those too then. And the nut knot and one of those glazed croissants, please."
The woman nodded and went ahead to pick all of the items, wrapping the bread up in paper, before moving on to the sweet treats. She put it all out for him, offering a polite smile before telling him the price. Jace opened the pouch to get out the coins and handing them over. After, he gathered the bread under one arm and picked up the other package before leaving.
"Sir, wait! Omega Lightwood!" called someone behind him. "Sir!"
Jace startled when someone touched his arm. "I'm sorry, sir, I think the woman wants something."
Jace turned from the woman who had touched his arm back toward the bakery stand. Oh. Right. Omega Lightwood. That... was him now. Married to Alec. But no one ever called him 'sir'.
"You forgot the tart," said the baker's wife when Jace returned to her.
She was pointing at another box. "Oh, right. Thank... you."
"Have a nice day, Omega Lightwood," the woman smiled at him once more.
"I... You too," Jace nodded slowly, carefully picking the tart up too.
He liked the sound of it. Omega Lightwood. He'd always wanted to be a Lightwood, but never had he imagined that it'd be like this. And the way people treated him here. With... respect and kindness. Because he was now the spouse of an important member of society.
/break\
The past three weeks had been torturous for Magnus. Waiting for the raid on the Lightwood estate. Knowing his love was stuck with some poor omega. Magnus didn't hold this situation against the omega; he knew how these arranged marriages went. Neither party had a say in it. Still, someone else was sharing Alexander's bed right now, waiting for the wedding night that was never going to come, thinking they had a married life ahead of them.
The crew had planned the raid. While the majority of Magnus' crew was going to raid the surrounding village, Magnus and his most trusted were going to the Lightwood estate. Steal some useful and expensive things, as well as two Lightwoods, then set the house on fire so everyone would think said Lightwoods had died in the flames. Make sure Alexander's wife would be out of harm's way, of course. Honorable Lightwood widow. She'd be fine.
Finally, the day came. And Magnus put on his prettiest outfit. Those skin-tight black leather pants that always made Alec all desperate and horny. The white shirt, half-way unbuttoned, with frills around the rims and sleeves. Over it, a dark-purple vest that matched the band around his captain's hat. Each of his fingers was adored with a ring, the coal around his eyes was on point.
He was gorgeous and ready to steal himself his greatest treasure. Had to make a bit of an entrance too, swooshing in dramatically, sword drawn and manic grin on his lips. He split up with Catarina, Raphael and Ragnor, each of them having a different task at the estate, while he headed right for Alexander's bedroom. Throwing the door open, he immediately headed for his lover, waiting for him by the window. The anxious, tense expression melted away from Alec's face as Magnus cornered him against the wall and kissed him with heated passion.
"Lord Lightwood, I am here to rob you," declared Magnus playfully. "And if you have no money to pay me, you will have to pay me with your body."
"Magnus-" Alec made an embarrassed noise and caught his hand.
How strange. Usually, Alec was much more on board with a little role-play. That was when someone cleared their throat behind them and oh. Alec hadn't gotten rid of the wifey yet?
"But darling, I thought you wanted to make sure the wifey was somewhere safe," Magnus sighed.
"Well. The... The plans have... changed, Mag," Alec's cheeks flushed.
With knitted eyebrows did Magnus turn around. The expression changed into a pleased surprised look when he took in the omega. Gorgeous. Bit on the shorter end – but then, most people were when they stood next to Alexander or Magnus – blonde, very golden-blonde, soft-looking lips, well-defined but in a compact way. Very cute. And not what Magnus had expected.
"Mh, you are not what I expected," Magnus looked the blonde up and down once more.
"Yes, I gather you were expecting a 'wifey'. I'm the wifey, I suppose. But I prefer Jace."
Surprise and recognition took over Magnus' face and he turned to regard Alec briefly to see if he pieced that together correctly. Alec nodded shortly, avoiding his gaze as though he felt guilty or embarrassed, perhaps even both. Instead, Magnus offered a small, understanding smile, gently cupping Alec's face and pulling him into a soft kiss.
"Plans have changed," stated Magnus against Alec's lips before stepping away from him and speaking up a little. "Well then, are the two of you packed? We're on a tight schedule, before someone comes to Lightwood estate trying to save you."
"Just... Just like that?" Jace looked confused, eyes darting between Alec and Magnus.
"I told you, Jace," Alec stepped up to the omega and took his hand to squeeze it reassuringly. "I got you. I will never let someone hurt you again. I'm not going to leave you here to return to your father. You're coming with us. You're safe with us, Jace."
Hurt him again? Not letting him return to his father, in the same context? Magnus narrowed his eyes. He knew who Jace was. Childhood best friend, first love, the one to make Alec realize he was gay. Magnus understood that, but beyond just some fuzzy childish love, Alexander had never stopped worrying about his best friend when Jace had moved away. He thought he'd never get to see the blonde again. And though there was a lot to sort out here, if Magnus was in a position to save a person who meant this much to his Alexander, he damn well would.
"Just... like that?" asked Jace doubtfully, now directly looking at Magnus.
Magnus put on his most charming smile and approached the omega, taking his hand to kiss it. When doing so, he got to inhale the omega's scent closely. Mh. Honey and strawberries. That went very well with the heady, earthly scent of Alexander, the forest's wood.
"Just like that," assured Magnus. "I may be a pirate, but I am also a gentleman. And a gentleman does not leave an omega in need behind. Especially not such a gorgeous one."
The way Jace's eyebrows shot up and his cheeks turned red was quite charming. Letting go of Jace's hand, Magnus stepped back to allow Alec and Jace to gather their things. Anything they cherished, needed or thought was particularly valuable to sell. Jace got a small bag, Alexander two middle-sized ones. For a moment, Alexander's gaze lingered in the room. It had been his home for so long, Magnus could imagine it being painful to leave it behind. To destroy it, even.
"Let's go home," declared Alec with a heavy sigh.
"Home?" echoed Magnus curiously as he took one of the bags from Alec.
"My home is where you are," Alec smiled as he kissed Magnus' cheek.
Yet with his now free hand, he reached out for Jace. Hold his hand, pulling him along. Making sure the blonde was not going to be left behind. This was going to be very different than planned.
"I got Izzy and her things. Raphael went ahead with the valuables. Ragnor is going to set this thing on fire when we leave," informed Catarina. "I see you stole more than planned. Pretty."
"Mh, my lover now comes with an additional husband," Magnus' lips quirked in amusement. "And I have decided to keep them both. Twice the booty for the captain. I deserve it."
He winked playfully and while Alec huffed in amusement, Jace made a small noise and flushed. Ah, the cutie wasn't used to Magnus yet. That could be a lot of fun. And, looking at it from this angle as Jace walked a little ahead of Magnus, the pirate captain had to admit that was a good booty.
"Off we go. Through the back, down the cliffs. The ship is anchored below," instructed Magnus.
It was quite a climb, but they couldn't risk being seen with the Lightwoods. For this fake-out to work, they had to disappear. Jace's footing was unsure when he landed down on the deck of the ship. Magnus caught him by the elbow, carefully holding him steady.
"Welcome aboard the Pandemonium. My pride and joy. I'll give you the grand tour, but let's do that after we made our escape. For now, let me show you the accommodations," offered Magnus.
"Where are we going to keep him...?" asked Alec in a low, worried whisper.
"For now, my cabin. He seems a bit... skittish. Wouldn't want to put him in a hammock with the crew below deck," Magnus smiled at the surprised look Alec gave him. "I got you, my love. I know he means a lot to you. You promised to keep him safe and I will do my best to help you keep that promise, Alexander. While I navigate us out of here, you stay with him. Calm him down."
"I love you so much, Magnus," Alec whispered in awe, kissing Magnus quickly.
"I know you do, darling," Magnus winked playfully.
/break\
The ship was large. Impressive. Not that Jace knew too much about ships. What he did know was that the captain's cabin was gorgeous. A huge bed, four posters, with curtains, silk nearly see-through, different ones in different shades of purple. The bed was covered in fancy pillows and various blankets. There was a huge wardrobe against the wall on one side of the door, a sturdy, elegant desk on the other. On the desk, documents and charts were sprawled out, books lined up against the wall. A divan on one side of the bed, a heavy arm-chair on the other, right next to the nightstand. There were even large windows, giving a beautiful view over the ocean.
"Jace," Alec's voice tore him out of his observations. "You can... relax. Sit down. Get comfortable."
Nodding sharply, Jace headed over to the divan and sat down on it. He didn't know what else to do with himself, really. This was... so far out of his comfort zone. His father had isolated him for the past seven years, ever since he had presented as an omega. Social interactions alone were already weird for him. But he thought he knew what he was preparing for. Get married to a rich, influential alpha, be a trophy omega, be taken care of. It wasn't going to be a good life, because there would be no love and he would have to obey his alpha, but at least he would get away from his father and perhaps, if he behaved well, his mate would treat him better than his father did. And, at one point, he would have children, someone to love unconditionally and to be loved by.
Then he learned the alpha would be Alec and Jace had grown hopeful. He had held Alec very dear. They had been friends once upon a time. Perhaps they could be again. He could be friends with his husband and he could imagine himself falling very easily in love with Alec, if Alec was still as kind and sweet as he had been back then. The way Alec had pulled him into a hug and promised him safety, it had made his heart stop and soar at the same time. It would be very easy to fall in love with Alec. And wouldn't that be the ideal scenario? Loving his husband and mate?
Only that... his mate already had another mate. An alpha. One he loved, was in love with.
There was no room for Jace in Alec's heart. Not like that, not how he had hoped. But that was okay. As long as he could have Alec's friendship and also his protection. His father would not be able to harm him here. He was safe, as long as he was here with Alec. But then how long would he be here? Alec already had a mate he was in love with, he didn't need Jace in that way. They might bring him somewhere where he would be safe and then Jace could start a new life.
In theory, that sounded good. For too long, it had been all he had wanted. But now Alec and Izzy were back in his life and once upon a time, they had been his whole world. It was nostalgic to yearn for that, to want it back. It'd never be as it once was, when they had been children. So perhaps moving on would be the right thing to do, that way the yearning for the past couldn't hurt him.
"Jace. You can relax, you know," Alec sat down on the bed so he could face him. "It's going to be a while until we're in the clear. I suspect Magnus is heading to his home harbor, it's quite a journey. Rest some, Jace. No need to sit so rigid, you know."
Jace nodded jerkily. After a moment, he pulled his legs up onto the divan, carefully leaning back. He tried to relax, but it was pretty hard in this strange environment. Everything smelt foreign. More precisely, everything smelt like an alpha Jace didn't know. It had him on edge.
"Talk to me," prompted Alec, his voice gentle. "Maybe that'll help you relax."
Alec looked very relaxed, sprawled out on the bed, rolled onto his side so he was facing Jace. He looked like he belonged here. Which, Jace mused, he did, didn't he? This was the cabin of his mate. Alec belonged here. Jace didn't. Because this was... the cabin of his mate's mate.
"The past two weeks..." Jace paused, his fingers drawing on the divan. "Were the happiest I've ever been, Alec. I know it's not... real. Our matebond. That't not what it's about. I mean the... Father never let me leave the house. At all. I got to walk the city, go shopping, talk to people. And people... treated me with respect and kindness. Because of you. Because I was the mate of Lord Lightwood. It was nice, even if it wasn't real. I missed you and Izzy. It was great to get the chance to catch u with the two of you again. I'm... glad I got to meet you two again."
The look on Alec's face changed into one of confusion. "I... enjoyed the past two weeks too. I'm glad you're in our lives again. But... The way you just said that sounds very... final. Like a goodbye. What's that about, Jace? Why... are you talking like that?"
He rolled off the bed and stood to walk over to the divan. Sitting down, he reached out for Jace's hair to gently run his fingers through it. Jace lifted his head so he could rest it on Alec's thigh. Something they had done a lot in the past two weeks. Just, laying together, gentle caresses while they spoke. Catching up with each other's lives. Not that Jace had a lot to share there; he had literally spent the past seven years locked up at the Wayland estate, being home-schooled.
"You said we're heading to your mate's home harbor. I assume... you will leave me there? To... start anew. So you and your mate can start your new life here, on the ship."
Though he tried to, he couldn't entirely keep the sullen tone out of his voice. The gentle fingers in his hair paused and Alec made a small, confused noise before resuming his petting.
"Jace. I'm not... I'm not going to abandon you. Not if you don't want me to. You can leave the ship at the harbor and start your new life, if you'd like. But you don't have to. You are my mate, and I will protect you. I... can only do that if I'm actually close by, you know."
Alec offered him that cute, quirky little half-grin. The one that was very easy to fall in love with. Not that Jace was falling in love with Alec. That would be stupid, because Alec had made it very clear that he had a mate he loved and would not cheat on. Not that Jace would do such a thing either! Cheating was a no-go. But the thing was, Alec was his mate now and for the past two weeks, they had spent so much time together and bonded and getting to know the man Alec had become... It would be very easy to fall in love with that man, that alpha. His alpha. Which, was the main problem. They were married, mated. Alec was his alpha. There was a natural bond drawing them together now and Jace really felt that pull. His eyelids fluttered shut as Alec kept petting him. That, coupled with the soothing rocking of the ship quickly lulled Jace into a peaceful sleep.

They'd been at it for two hours now, traveling fast and elusive away from the government hot on their tails. After all, they had just robbed the town of Idris, had caused the death of the Lightwood heirs, both of them. How tragic, how terrible. Magnus wished they'd get lost so he could go back down to his Lightwood. He was exhausted and annoyed, he wanted to wash up and curl up on his bed with his Alexander – something he didn't get to do very often. Rarely had he ever gotten to steal Alexander away for just a few hours, or even two days occasionally.
"Magnus, can we talk?"
His first mate, Catarina, approached him with furrowed brows. Concern written all over her face. Well, that didn't bode well for him. Sighing, he motioned for her to continue to get this over with.
"The plan was... to get Alec here, for you. But we can't help but notice the... additional omega that we have picked up, who is currently in your room, with your mate," Catarina's frown deepened.
"Yes. His husband. Not the wifey I was picturing," Magnus chuckled amused. "Your point?"
"We got your mate. And his omega husband. You must see the problem here," Catarina sighed.
"No problem at all. Just my beautiful mate requesting that we save his oldest friend too."
"Magnus, don't be daft," Ragnor was far more direct than Catarina. "He has a cute little omega snuggling up to him right now, I assume. One he cares about enough to want you to save him."
"I'm not daft. I am very much aware of what you're trying to say here. I just can't dignify it with an answer, because it is ridiculous," Magnus kept his eyes on the horizon, ignoring his two oldest friends. "Alexander loves me. We are mates. I am not threatened by an abused omega who just wants to live a safe life. Alexander has told me all about this one. His oldest friend, who has been abused as a child already. He's been... I could see it in his eyes when I came to pick up Alexander. Jace was afraid. To be left behind, to have to return to his abuser. I'm not blind, I know how Alexander used to feel about him, or maybe even still does. But I'm also not petty. I will not let Jace suffer for something that he has no influence over."
Magnus' eyes were hard and he conveyed the aura of being done with this conversation. Enough for his friends to drop it. Magnus wasn't a very jealous person in nature, but even if he were, he wouldn't let his jealousy lead to harm to others. Yes, he didn't know yet what to do with the blonde, or with what was or might be between Alexander and this omega. But they'd figure it out. Because above all else, Magnus believed in Alexander and in Alexander's love for him.
"I think we're in the clear for now, captain," announced Dot behind the wheel.
"Wonderful! I will be in my cabin with my mate then, if you need me. Only interrupt me if you actually need me, until we reach home," declared Magnus with a cheeky smirk.
He sauntered into his cabin, taking his hat off as he stepped through the door. When he closed the door, he put his hat on his desk. Next, he took his black-red bandana, so he could run his fingers through his sweat-soaked hair. Magnus filled the bowl on his vanity with water. He grabbed a cloth and started cleaning his face and hands. Taking his shirt off, he also scrubbed down his chest. No need to reek like sweat when he next kissed Alexander. When he was washed, he turned toward the divan, smiling pleased as he noticed they were still both asleep. He got up and walked over to his bed, laying down so he was facing the divan. Alec was laying with his head resting on the divan's headrest. On Alexander's lap was Jace's head, the blonde curled together very tightly, snuggling up to Alec as close as possible.
They looked good together, Magnus had to admit that. The blonde looked very soft as he melted against Alec, with Alec having a protective arm wrapped around Jace's waist, holding him close. Both individually were beautiful, but together, and with the level of intimacy displayed between them. They were gorgeous to look at. Even their scents went together so well. Alec's heady, dark Earth-scent, like the Earth and the wood of the trees in a forest, while Jace's sweet honey and strawberry scent completed that forest in a sweet way. They seemed like the perfect little alpha and omega couple, bound by a life-long connection that nothing could compare to.
"Magnus..." Alec's voice was rough and sleepy, his eyelids slowly fluttering open.
As soon as his eyes were fully open and he focused in on Magnus, his entire face lit up, the brightest, most beautiful smile spread over his lips and Magnus felt seen in a way he had never felt seen before he had met Alec. Whatever kind of connection Jace and Alec had, Magnus knew he didn't have to worry about it because he knew what kind of connection him and Alec had. Returning the smile, Magnus got off the bed so he could reach his lover and pull him into a gentle kiss without jostling the sleeping blonde in Alec's lap. Their kiss was filled with love and warmth, it felt like coming home, all tension easing off Magnus as he leaned into the kiss more.
"I love you, darling," whispered Magnus, his lips lingering against Alexander's. "But let's talk about the sleeping omega in the room while he's still sleeping, mh?"
Slowly, he sank back down onto his bed, hands behind his body to lean against, his eyes not leaving Alexander and the blonde snuggled against Alexander. He hadn't woken from the kissing or the way Alec had adjusted his position, he simply wiggled a little to get comfortable against Alec's new position. Absentmindedly did Alec caress the omega's side, pulling him closer.
"I always wondered what had happened to him," Alec's voice was a low whisper. "Jace presented as an omega and his father... pulled him out of society. Trying to hide his shame. He saw Jace as... as faulty, for being a male omega. He's been looking for a female alpha to match, to get the most gain out of the union, but there aren't many female alphas..."
Alec shifted some more and so did the expression on his face. Anger clouded his dark eyes, so he turned to look away, staring down at the floor instead of looking at Magnus. Magnus' own gaze shifted to focus on the sleeping blonde, watching every little movement.
"He kept abusing Jace. I... I think it got worse. Now that he kept Jace isolated from everyone else," Alec pressed his lips together thinly for a moment, breathing deeply to calm himself. "I saw the bruises. The past two weeks, living with Jace. Bruises, some faded, some harsher. Scars. I... he hurt Jace. When we were children, Jace was... Jace was the kindest soul I knew and this man tried to break him. He kept hurting him. And when I told Jace... When I told him about you and about the plan, he... he looked so afraid... he thought I would abandon him, he thought he'd have to return to his father, he thought he'd lose me and Izzy again. We were his... only friends, and he finally found us again. He wanted... He thought this would be his happily ever after. Just, having me and Izzy in his life again, getting a husband who would be... his friend. That... That's how low the bar was, Magnus. He was so glad his husband could be his friend."
Alec looked at him so intensely, eyes shining with tears. Probably because for the longest time, that was also what Alec had hoped for. He thought he'd be mated with a woman and he had hoped they could at least be friends, even if he'd never find love. And then he'd met Magnus. And Magnus, he had never felt that way, feared a loveless mating. He'd always lived the way he wanted to. He had run away from home and become a pirate for that exact reason, because he would never let such a thing dictate his life. Society. What he was supposed to do, how he was supposed to behave and feel. Who he was supposed to be with. No. No, Magnus liked women, men, alphas, omegas, betas. He wouldn't let society tell him who he was allowed to be with. Not everyone had the guts and opportunity to do that though. Some people were stuck, had no way out. An omega, kept isolated by his abusive alpha father, no friends, no own money to help him get out...?
"What did you promise him?" Magnus asked softly, tracing his goatee with his fingers.
"I..." Alec flushed embarrassed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I promised him that he would be safe with me. I told him we can drop him off at a safe harbor where he can start a new life, if that's what he wants, but... he missed me and Izzy as much as we missed him and... if... if he can... I told him he can stay with us. So I can protect him. I'm sorry. I know I shouldn't have made such a promise without consulting you, this is your ship, you are the captain, I'm just your guest-"
"You are not my guest," Magnus interrupted him seriously, reaching out to take Alec's hand.
He stopped Alexander from running it through his hair again in that cute nervous habit of his. Instead, Magnus brought Alec's hand up to his lips so he could kiss each knuckle individually.
"You are not my guest," Magnus repeated his words firmly. "You are my mate. You might not be captain of this ship, but as the Alpha's mate, you are leader of the crew and this ship is your home and you get to make decisions. Admittedly, inviting someone into the pack is... a big first decision and I would like to make these decisions together in the future, but I understand why you did it."
"Y... You do?" Alec looked at him so hopefully.
"He is your oldest friend. He was your first love. Of course do you not want to abandon him, especially with what he has been through," Magnus smiled against Alec's knuckles. "I have made this crew with my friends, with my oldest and best friends, at the core. Because I could never leave my friends behind. And I love that you feel the same way. Your compassion is one of the things I love the most about you, Alexander, I will not condemn you for it."
"But I-" Alec started, looking torn and guilty.
"That, I think, is beside the point," Magnus' lips quirked into a smirk. "We'll talk about it, at one point, but I am... exhausted, I would like to rest, I think you are still tired too and I believe our little guest of honor is in the process of waking up too."
No need to air Alexander's potential feelings for Jace in front of Jace. That was something to be discussed in full privacy and quite frankly also because Magnus did need more time to digest all of this. He wasn't jealous in nature, but he couldn't deny the clear connection between Alec and Jace, something that he was not a part of and couldn't compare with either, this was something he needed to fully comprehend first and to sort how exactly he felt about it.
"Mh... Alec..." Jace's voice was soft, worried.
Right, he was waking up in a strange territory that exclusively smelt like a strange alpha. Not exactly the most calming thing for an omega. Alec made a soothing rumbling noise in his chest, the hand running up and down Jace's side pressing a little more firmly against the blonde and tracing up toward Jace's face. The gesture was so gentle and caused the omega to relax some.
"Everything's okay, Jace," Alec's voice was so gentle and so was his smile.
"You're on my ship, little omega," Magnus also offered a smile.
"Your... oh. Right," Jace sat up, rubbing his eyes sleepily. "H... Hello, Captain Bane."
Jace bit his lower lip nervously, tilting his head to look up at Magnus. Mh, how charming. With the most charming smile of his own, Magnus reached for Jace's hand to kiss it.
"Please, do call me Magnus. You are staying in my home, after all," Magnus winked at him.
"If... you could stop doing that. It's... I'm not a swooning omega," Jace frowned.
"Right. I'm sorry. I also... I did not mean any offense when I called you Alexander's..."
"Wifey?" Jace raised one eyebrow. "I didn't take offense. I know you assumed Alec would get married to a female omega. And you made all these plans around that. Not around... me. I'm... Thank you, for allowing me onto your ship at all."
"You're important to Alexander and that means you are now important to me."
"It's that easy, huh?" Jace muttered, more to himself than to them.
"With Magnus it is," replied Alec with a soft, proud smile aimed at Magnus. "You'll come to realize, once you get the chance to actually know him. Magnus has a very big heart."
Magnus returned Alec's smile and in that moment, he knew he was right not to worry. There was nothing to worry about. Alexander looked at him with so much love and adoration, whatever he felt for Jace did not influence or change that. Nothing would.

Magnus smiled to himself, leaning against the rails. Dot was at the steering wheel, the two were having a conversation though while listening to her, Magnus' focus was out there, on his ship.
"What are you looking at? Are you staring at your Alexander?" asked Dot.
"Mh... No, I'm not," admitted Magnus after a moment. "I'm looking at my mate's husband."
"That sentence is messed up," noted Dot. "What are you looking for? Watching that he doesn't get too close to your mate? Seriously, how are you not just... constantly growling at him? How are your instincts not going haywire? I know I would be jealous."
Thoughtfully, Magnus tilted his head. Jace was standing next to the main mast, talking to Catarina and Ragnor about something. He'd adjusted rather well to the crew, striking up conversations of his own, relaxing around them more. The first few days, he had just holed up in Magnus' cabin.
"He... fascinates me," whispered Magnus softly. "Someone tried to break him and still he... survived. He's still trying to survive. He's strong and I think he's sweet, even when he hides it under snarky comments and glares. The way he is around Alexander..."
"Then why aren't you jealous?" asked Dot once more, this time more pointedly.
"Because I am secure in Alexander's feelings for me," replied Magnus finally, as he turned around toward Dot. "To be jealous would mean not to trust Alexander. It'd mean I had reason to doubt him, to think Alexander would choose Jace over me. And I am very secure in our relationship."
With that, he pushed off the rail and walked down the stairs to where Jace stood. Ragnor gave Magnus a curious look when the captain joined them, but he didn't comment. He was Magnus' oldest friend, he knew Magnus the best, and even he couldn't figure Magnus' angle out.
"Ah. I should... get going anyway. I should get dinner started," offered Jace slowly.
He left. Mh. Magnus was aware that he was being avoided. Well, as good as someone could avoid another when both slept in the same room. Which didn't help much, did it? This whole situation must be very awkward for Jace and every night, he went to sleep with perfect view on his husband, cuddled up to another alpha. And this wasn't just a marriage of convenience, Magnus could see the longing in Jace's eyes. That was what he felt bad for, because Magnus knew that if the roles were reverse and he'd be laying on the outside, watching Alec and Jace fall asleep arm in arm, it would hurt him. To Jace, Magnus must be the embodiment of Jace not getting to have Alec. So Magnus didn't take much offense to Jace's avoidance. Catarina sighed and turned to look at him.
"This is going to be a mess on the long run," commented Catarina.
"But it's going to be entertaining," argued Ragnor amused. "And at least the food around here has improved since we took up the little omega. We should keep him around."
Magnus shook his head, though he had to agree. Jace was a good cook. Something the ship had been in dire need of. And Jace seemed to be grateful to have found a way to say thank you, which Magnus found very endearing. Which Magnus knew might make things more complicated; him finding his mate's husband endearing. If he were jealous and possessive as everyone else thought they would be in his place, things would be much easier, wouldn't they? Lines would be clearer.

The Pandemonium was a beautiful ship. It was large, with various cabins beneath where the crew slept paired up in sets of three. Isabelle was currently bunking with Catarina and Dot. Even a week later, Jace was still sleeping at Magnus' cabin. On the divan. It seemed awkward to Jace, but Alec absolutely insisted – mostly because there were no omegas on the ship and he wouldn't let Jace sleep in a room with two strange alphas or betas. They all seemed to be ignoring the fact that Magnus Bane was also a strange alpha. He wasn't to Alec, so Alec didn't realize that, Jace supposed. And Jace ignored it because the alpha was Alec's mate. For that exact reason, Jace stayed and made an effort. If he couldn't have Alec's heart, he at least wanted to be a part of Alec's life, which meant getting to know and befriending Alec's real mate.
The thing was, it was really easy to get along with Magnus Bane. The man was charming, kind, funny, thoughtful. They'd talk with each other sometimes, then hang out when the crew gathered in the evening to share a meal and laughter and a drink. He was compassionate, he didn't seem to resent Jace for being Alec's mate or for being here, there was warmth in his eyes as he listened to Jace. Because Jace had to explain, in his own words. About his father, his fears, how much the Lightwoods meant to him and how much it meant to him to be allowed to be here. He suspected that Alec had already told Magnus all of this, but still Jace had to say it himself.
"You are clearly freezing," there was a lot of judgment in Alec's voice. "Don't be stubborn."
"I'm fine, Alec," Jace sighed, pulling the blanket closer around his shoulders.
He tried to not visibly shiver, but it was hard. Tonight, it was freezing. It had already been the end of autumn when they took off from Idris, but it was getting colder quite quickly. He curled together tighter on the divan, trying to preserve body heat. Alec sighed, glaring at him. He'd turned to face him, try to stare him into submission. Alec should know better than that; Jace was stubborn. Besides, what was the alternative, really? There was no changing the temperature in here. Suddenly, the blanket covering Alec and Magnus was being lifted and Magnus looked at him pointedly from behind Alexander, holding the blanket up. What...?
"C'mere, blondie," ordered Magnus. "You're going to freeze to death over there and the rattling of your teeth is stopping me from falling asleep. Body heat is the best way to stay warm and I am also acutely aware that you have been avoiding getting too physical with Alexander for my sake. But I also know you're an omega and need more physical comfort. So... just... come here."
For a few moments, Jace remained unmoved, even holding his breath. It looked warm and comfortable and he missed sleeping in Alec's arms. For two glorious weeks, Jace had gotten to experience what it was like to fall asleep in Alec's arms, feeling safer than he had ever before in his life. But then they got picked up by Magnus and Alec started sleeping in Magnus' bed, with his mate, while Jace slept on the divan, because he was just a guest here. This felt like a bad idea. He was supposed to move on, stop being so attached to Alec. Not go back to sleeping in the same bed with Alec – and, on top of that, in the same bed as Alec's mate. His real mate.
"I... I'm cold," admitted Jace after a moment, sighing in defeat.
He got up and very quickly walked the few steps between the divan and the bed – out of his cocoon of blankets, it was freezing cold. Shuddering, he sat down on the bed and ducked under the blanket and right into Alec's arms. The alpha growled darkly, pleased, as he laid his arms around him to pull him closely up against Alec's chest. Magnus lowered the blanket down to wrap around Jace.
"There. Now sleep," Magnus chuckled, getting more comfortable behind Alec again.
And within minutes, that was exactly what Jace was doing. The bed smelt like Alec, Alec smelt like Alec, and Alec's arms felt so good around him like that, holding him close. He was so warm and comforting and Jace fell into a peaceful slumber. When he woke up, he felt well-rested and content. Lax. Which also made sense, considering he was an omega and after having been touch-starved for years by his father, he had finally gotten physical comfort from Alec in the short two weeks of their marriage prior to joining the crew. So to get that back, to get to fall asleep like that, it eased a primal part of Jace's brain. He sighed contently, snuggling more into Alec, rubbing his nose along his alpha's collarbone. In just these small moments, he got to imagine Alec was his.
"Good morning to you too, blondie," the voice was not Alec's.
Jace froze for a moment before tilting his head up and noticing that the alpha into whose chest he was nuzzled was not Alec. It was Magnus. The captain looked amused, gently running his fingers through Jace's hair, his other arm being used as a pillow by Alec, who was laying behind Jace. Alec's arms were tightly wound around Jace's waist, face buried in Jace's shoulder-blades.
"This is not where I fell asleep," Jace mumbled sleepily and confused.
"It is not," Magnus agreed with a mirthful smile. "You kept shivering so I suggested to Alexander that we should put you in the middle, more warmth. It helped."
"Why?" Jace looked up at the alpha in confusion.
"Because you were surrounded by body heat, getting twice the external warmth, that helped-"
"No. Why did you suggest that?" Jace sat up, just a little bit, so he wouldn't have to look up at Magnus anymore, so he didn't feel as unequal anymore. "Why... I just... I don't understand you. Inviting me onto your ship was one thing, but inviting me into your cabin... and now, into your bed? I don't... I don't understand you, you don't make sense. You're an alpha. You... You should be territorial of your mate, not just... invite other people into your mate's bed, not with how complicated this situation between us already is."
"Complicated?" Magnus echoed the word in mock confusion. "Why, what could possibly be complicated about my mate getting mated to a pretty little omega, who's now living with us?"
"Don't distrac-" Jace interrupted himself, narrowing his eyes at Magnus. "You think I'm pretty?"
"Honey, do I have to invest in a bigger mirror?" Magnus raised his eyebrows. "You're clearly pretty, I didn't know that was even a question. And I'm not distracting. I'm... aware that our situation is unusual. But that does not mean I can't show you kindness."
"There is a difference between showing me kindness and showing me your bed."
"...Point taken," Magnus furrowed his brows as he sat up a little. "I... You are very important to Alexander, I'm fully aware of that. I love Alexander and I will not make him choose, I will not make him abandon you, I will not antagonize you and by doing so, drive him away from me. Besides, I have to admit, it's not very hard to be kind to you, Jace."
Now, Jace just stared at him with even more confusion, before tentatively laying down again. He wasn't used to kindness. Magnus slowly reached out to caress his side, running his knuckles over Jace's ribs in a soothing manner. Now that Jace was laying again, Alec grunted pleased.
"We're going to reach our harbor tomorroq," Magnus' voice was gentle. "We'll stay there a while. You can see for yourself if Edom is a place you could imagine yourself living."
"Tell me about it," requested Jace softly.
"It's a beautiful lush island, with a high mountain and a waterfall in the depth of the jungle. There is one settlement at the only harbor – the island is surrounded by cliffs, making it impossible to enter from any other vantage point. It's not a big settlement, but it's home. It got everything you need. Baker, a bar, even an inn where you can eat quite well. Catarina's husband owns the bar..."
That was about the last thing Jace remembered hearing before he fell asleep again.

"You seem excited," commented Lorenzo amused.
Somehow, Alec had gotten along very well with Lorenzo. The man was eccentric but he had good intentions. He was nice. Not that the rest of the crew was mean, honestly, Alec liked them all. They were Magnus' family, after all. Taking a deep breath of the sea air, Alec turned toward Lorenzo.
"I've never been to Magnus' actual home. I want to meet Catarina's husband too, she's talked so much about him. I want to... see everything you guys have been telling me."
"I have a feeling you'll fit right in," Lorenzo offered him a smile and a pat on the back. "Though I wonder, what are you going to do with that... pretty blonde of yours?"
At that, Alec frowned. He turned around, leaning against the rails and searching for Jace with his eyes. He found Jace over at the helmet with Magnus, Dot and Catarina. It was very reassuring to see how good Jace seemed to be getting along with the crew too.
"I don't know. He'll... finally get the chance to make his own life," Alec frowned. "Get a... job? His own place, if he wants to. Find... Find someone he can... fall... fall in love with..."
"Mh, I don't think he needs the latter," Lorenzo arched one eyebrow.
"What do you mean? Jace is amazing, he deserves love-" Alec narrowed his eyes at Lorenzo.
"I'm not saying he doesn't," Lorenzo gave him a look. "I'm saying he already has someone he is in love with. You must be aware of the way he looks at you."
"He's... He's grateful. For what I've done for him. Don't mistake that for love," Alec chuckled.
"No, I'm not mistaking anything. I know what gratitude looks like. Everyone on this ship feels it toward Magnus. But the way Jace looks at you? It's the same as Magnus looks at you. With love."
Lorenzo stared at him rather pointedly, daring him to argue. At this point, Alec gave up arguing. Hesitantly so though. He frowned at Jace from a distance. Could... Jace truly be in love with him? The thought made Alec's heart jump into his throat in excitement. No. That wasn't good. He shouldn't feel that way. Then again, he shouldn't be in love with Jace either. He had Magnus. He loved Magnus. There wasn't going to be anything between him and Jace, it was impossible.

"Uncle Magnus! Uncle Magnus!"
Madzie struggled to get out of her mom's arms as soon as she spotted Magnus. The little girl ran straight into Magnus' arms. Laughing, the captain hugged his god-daughter, lifting her up to whirl her around until she was giggling delighted. That gave Catarina the opportunity to properly hug her husband Luke and pull him into a slow, deep kiss.
"Welcome back, my love," Luke's voice was a pleased whisper.
"It's good to be back home," Catarina heaved a content sigh.
"Who's that?" Madzie stared over Magnus' shoulder.
Turning a little, Magnus saw that she was pointing at Jace and Alec. "That is... The tall one is my mate, Alec. And the blonde one is... Jace. They're going to live with us."
"O—Oh," Madzie craned her neck curiously. "Hello!"
The smile on Alec's lips was reluctant and awkward as he reached out to shake her hand. "Hello."
Magnus, Catarina and Luke laughed softly at that. Meanwhile, Jace grinned at Madzie and wiggled his fingers at her until she was once again giggling.
"Hello there, young lady," Jace grinned. "Your mom is pretty awesome."
"Yes, she is!" Madzie grinned broadly at him, puffing her chest out.
"Lucian, would you take your daughter back so I can show these two home?"
"Of course, Magnus," Luke's eyes were on Jace, filled with curiosity.
Everyone knew Magnus wanted to bring his mate home. Jace had not been planned. He didn't have the time or mind to explain himself right now, he trusted Catarina to give her version of things. Instead, Magnus motioned for Alec and Jace to follow him. The Bane estate was located at the outskirts of town, at the cliffs, with the perfect view of the ocean.
"Welcome to my humble abode," offered Magnus with a pleasant smile. "Well, our humble abode."
He grasped Alec by the neck and pulled him into a slow and deep kiss. From the corner of his eyes, he could see Jace watching them with longing written all over his face. Mh, this was going to be quite the problem on the long run, wasn't it? And his next offer wasn't going to help.
"Let me show you one of the guest rooms, Jace," Magnus put on his most charming smile.
"Are... you sure? You said there was an inn here-?" Jace frowned at him doubtfully.
"The inn costs money, which you don't have right now. You are free to stay here, look for a job without having to worry. Save up some money and get your own place if you'd like."
"Thank you, Magnus. You're a very generous man," Jace offered a small smile.
He knew he still didn't make sense to Jace, but Magnus found that mostly amusing, honestly. Taking Jace by one arm and Alec by the other, Magnus led the way. He picked a guest-room farther away from the master bedroom because he did want some privacy with his mate.
"Enjoy your stay. And... take as much time as you need," Magnus assured him.
Jace nodded sharply, looking at Magnus and Alec one last time before entering his new room. And then Magnus finally got to take Alexander to his bedroom for the first time. He kissed Alec deeply as he herded him toward the bed until the back of Alec's knees hit the bed and he collapsed on it. Magnus eagerly climbed on top of him, pinning him to the bed.
"You won't believe how often I thought about finally taking you to my bed."
"I can," Alec grinned in a dopey way. "Because I did too. I love you so much, Magnus."
"I know. I love you too," Magnus' smile turned more gentle.
"I just... I..." Alec took a deep breath, his eyes softened. "I've loved you before, but I feel like I love you even more now, because... the way you just... took Jace in and care for him? I... I'm so grateful to you and your heart is... even bigger than I ever imagined. I love you, Magnus."
"I love you too," repeated Magnus, punctuating every word with a kiss to Alec's lips.
And that was true. He loved Alexander, enough to take Alexander's other mate in. Though he had to admit that Jace truly did make it easy to care for him and it was by far not as much of a sacrifice as everyone seemed to think. Magnus was enjoying Jace's company, a lot.

"Thanks for giving me a chance, Luke."
Jace turned to smile a little at his new boss. Two days into his stay in Edom, Jace had asked Luke for a job. Waiting tables, cleaning up, anything really. It turned out that what Luke was actually looking for was a cook and thankfully enough, Jace was a pretty good cook. Now, a week later, Jace was growing more relaxed here. He liked his job, he really liked his boss. It was nice to be among people. The ship had made him a little anxious because he was stuck with these people he didn't know. While an island technically also qualified as being stuck, it still was more open space.
"This is a place of second chances, you know," Luke sat down at the bar with him. "From all Cat told me about you, you deserve a chance at your own life, Jace."
The smile on his lips twisted a little as Jace took a bite from his sandwich. It was his lunch-break, past the lunch-rush. There were just a few regulars in the corner, playing a card-game. Among them, Ragnor and Lorenzo. The crew was taking a few weeks off, they were going to lay low for a while, what with them having 'murdered' the Lightwood heirs.
"How are you liking Edom so far?" Luke turned toward him, facing him.
"I... like it. Everyone's nice to me. That's... a huge change," Jace's smile turned more bizarre.
"You're a good kid," Luke reached out to ruffle his hair. "You deserve that."
Just hearing that already meant so much to Jace. Their conversation was interrupted by Alec entering the restaurant. Immediately, Jace's attention was drawn to his alpha, his senses flooded with the calming scent. The thing was, Alec's scent was by now very mingled with Magnus'. After the two weeks on the ship and now a week of living here, Alec and Magnus had started to excessively smell like each other. Yet that didn't bother Jace. No, he found it rather pleasant. Magnus' scent was enjoyable, calming. The combination of Alec and Magnus was really good.
"Jace," Alec's whole face brightened as he spotted him.
"He's been working here for a week now. You gotta stop acting pleasantly surprised to see him at his place of employment, kid," Luke snorted and shook his head. "Besides, you live together."
Alec flushed and ducked his head, before approaching the counter. Quickly, Jace finished his lunch and then got up and leave for the kitchen, causing Alec to make a confused noise.
"Your and Magnus' usual, right?" Jace smiled at him. "I'll get right on it."
"I... Yes. Thanks, Jace," Alec furrowed brows in mild disappointment.
Was Jace just doing his work? Yes, yes he was. Was Jace maybe also avoiding Alec? Absolutely. He wasn't stupid, he knew he was in love with Alec and he knew it wasn't a good sign that he was growing more fond of Magnus' scent. He could absolutely not fall in love with Alec's mate too, it was already too heartbreaking to be in love with Alec and he was trying to stop that.

"You're a good man. I haven't decided yet if you are good enough for my sister."
Though Alec was smiling politely, there was a razor-sharp edge to that smile. Raphael didn't back down, he simply returned the smile and refilled both their glasses. Tonight, Alec and Izzy had a double-date. Because Izzy had started dating. Raphael Santiago. The two had already grown closer on board of the ship and since living on Edom, Raphael had actually started properly courting Isabelle. Despite giving Raphael a hard time, Alec had noticed that he'd never seen Isabelle that happy before. All he wanted was to see his sister happy.
"I'm not," offered Raphael after a beat. "Your sister is... a mesmerizing woman. A sophisticated woman of high class. I'm a pirate. I'm aware that she is far out of my league."
That certainly was a good answer. Alec took one of the glasses and toasted Raphael with a thin-lipped smile. He was having a great time, actually. Double-dates with Magnus – generally, being able to go on dates with Magnus. Picnics at a lake, swimming together, going out for dinner. It was heaven. The only thing missing was Jace. And Alec hated himself for thinking that. Thinking that something was missing, when he was with the man he loved. Magnus was the man he loved, but he wasn't the only man Alec loved. Though this evening was lovely, Alec was once again missing Jace.
"I know this is a double-date and not just... us hanging out, but still... Where's Jace?"
Isabelle came walking into the parlor to join them, wrapping his arms around Raphael's neck from behind and kissing his cheek. The way Raphael melted in her arms told Alec a whole lot about just how deep Raphael's feelings for her went. Smiling faintly, Alec finished his drink.
"Jace is out. I don't... know where. I told him about tonight and that we'd like to be alone and he just said... no worries. Because he had... plans. And then he left before you came."
"Isn't it good that he has a social life?" Izzy frowned at him confused.
Of course it was. And Alec felt awful about this, but he was so jealous. He wanted Jace to find love and all of that, but he also really didn't, because Jace was his and should be his. And that was an awful thing to think for Alec. He refilled his glass and kicked it back.
"Oh yes, Jace has a very important date today," confirmed Magnus as he came following Isabelle.
Great. Alec's grip on his glass tightened. He shouldn't be jealous. It was great that Jace managed to fit in here so well. Alec was genuinely happy about that.
"Who with?" Isabelle raised her eyebrows. "I know there are a lot of unmated alphas whose heads he turns. But I don't think he's ever had eyes for any of them."
Magnus laughed brightly at that, shaking his head. "A play-date with Madzie. Luke and Cat wanted some time to themselves too, something they don't get much of with their daughter. And since Jace adores her, he offered to babysit her for them."
The way Alec just relaxed at that. And then he smiled warmly at the thought of Jace with the little one. He was so good with children. It was precious and made Alec's heart race in excitement. Sighing, Alec leaned back against Magnus' chest as his mate came to stand behind him.

"Hey, guys. What, uh, do you think...?"
Magnus and Alexander were in the study, reading. Something they cherished to share with each other. They'd just sit together, leaning against each other and reading books to themselves. After finishing his page, Magnus put a finger between them and closed the book, so he could give his undivided attention to his roommate. And as he did, he was glad to have done so. His eyes widened and he swallowed hard. Jace was wearing skin-tight leather pants and knee-high boots – with heels, cheating a bit of height onto the omega and also making his thighs look even more shapely. Not that those thighs needed much help on that front, they were delicious and thick already. He was wearing a wine-red open shirt with frilly sleeves. And his face! Coal around his eyes, making those bright eyes seem even brighter. His hair was braided back a little.
"You... look like a pirate," noted Alec, gaping rather dumbly.
Two seconds short of actively drooling. Oh, darling, so bad at hiding his feelings and attraction for Jace. How endearing. Though, Magnus had to admit, his self-control was wavering too. This was... delectable. A primal part of Magnus' brain made him want to growl and pin Jace against the wall and ravish him right then and there. That was partially to be blamed on Alexander and his mate-bond with Jace as well as his heart-eyes and hard-on for Jace. Magnus also knew that this only went so far, the rest was all Jace. The omega was charming and enchanting and Magnus... was clearly attracted to him and over the past couple of weeks, had been falling for him.
"Ye—eah. Dot and Cat insisted on giving me a make-over. I think that Dot is actually slowly going stir-crazy being stuck on the island, so I became their guinea pig," Jace flushed.
"You look absolutely lovely, Jace," assured Magnus. "Gorgeous."
The blush on Jace's cheeks darkened and he ducked his head a little. "I feel very uncomfortable, honestly. My whole chest is out! I was taught good omegas don't show that much skin."
For emphasis, he motioned at his chest. His toned, tanned, smooth chest that made Magnus want to lick his abs. Not helpful, little omega. Magnus tried to tear himself away from the view.
"Well, the thing is... it's your body and you can show however much of it that you are comfortable with. If this makes you uncomfortable, you can button up again, but... no one is going to shame you for showing some skin, if it makes you comfortable," assured Magnus. "I'm sure it'll help you gain the attention of... whoever you want, really. Which, you know you are allowed to, right?"
Jace looked at him a bit surprised. Something told Magnus that Jace didn't quite know about being allowed to approach someone. Find someone. He'd been raised by an abusive bastard who only wanted to use him to make connections, so clearly he had taught Jace to only nod along to whatever daddy dearest deemed best. The thought of just walking up to an alpha he liked might have never crossed his mind before. Jace frowned at him, doubtfully.
"Uh. I... I should go and find Izzy, show her too," Jace nodded at them both. "See you later."
As soon as Jace was out of the room, Magnus pulled Alec into a hungry kiss. The other alpha looked startled but pleased, gladly climbing into Magnus' lap and starting an even deeper kiss.
"I can smell your arousal, darling," whispered Magnus teasingly, causing Alec to freeze. "Relax, my love, and take a deep breath yourself. Our little omega is very... very inspiring."
The look on Alec's face was one of confusion as he sniffed the air. "I don't... understand."
"Maybe... I like him more than I expected I would," admitted Magnus, a hand running down along Alec's side. "And, truly, that outfit on him was absolutely illegal. Did you see his thighs?"
It took a moment, but then Alec burst into laughter. Leaning forward, he buried his face in Magnus' neck. He relaxed in Magnus' arms, like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. Yes, Magnus was aware of the guilt Alec must have been carrying around for weeks now, about his feelings for Jace.
"It's okay, Alexander," Magnus whispered softly. "You're not alone. I love you and I am... right there with you, thinking about those very nice thighs..."
"They're really nice thighs," Alec heaved a sigh against Magnus' collarbone.

Alec had gotten a job. Sure, Magnus insisted on it not being necessary, because Magnus was quite rich from his 'job' as a pirate. This wasn't about money though. It was about being bored out of his mind. While Magnus was out with his crew, Alec couldn't just sit around, twiddling his thumbs.
Now Alec was in charge of the local library, something that had been neglected for the past couple of years since the last librarian had died. It needed cleaning and organizing and with it, Alec got to keep the town's records. Something else that got neglected. But that figured, in a town full of outlaws. No, Alec liked bureaucracy and records. The work kept him occupied.
It worked for about a week, but on week two of Magnus being gone, Alec grew more frustrated. He missed his mate. Which was stupid, considering they used to go weeks without seeing each other. But that month and a half of being with Magnus every single day, things were different.
"Alec," Jace's voice was a gentle whisper. "You're pacing. Again."
Alec turned toward Jace in surprise. The blonde was wearing an oversized shirt that was half-buttoned, his hair messy and eyes sleepy. He looked so cute, Alec just wanted to wrap him up in his arms and bury himself in his omega, surround himself in his scent.
"Did... Did I wake you? I'm sorry," Alec smiled sheepishly.
"No. I was just getting a glass of water. I can't sleep either. But... you, you've been driving yourself up a wall missing Magnus in the past couple days now and that's not healthy. Tell me what I can do. How can I help you, Alec," the look on Jace's face was pleading.
"It's stupid," Alec sighed. "But... the bed's so big and empty and cold. Every time I turn around to snuggle against him, the bed's just... empty. And cold. And frustrating."
A long beat of silence, Jace shifting in his seat. "I... can help with that. I mean, we've shared a bed before. Magnus... wouldn't mind, right? It's just... warmth-sharing."
Swallowing hard, Alec nodded. Magnus wouldn't mind, because Magnus would like to invite Jace into their bed too. That knowledge was the only reason Alec needed to agree. Otherwise, he would feel guilty or like he was betraying Magnus. But he knew the way Magnus felt.
"Yeah. He wouldn't mind. Thanks, Jace," Alec relaxed a little.
He walked over to Jace and, with the blonde, headed toward the master bedroom. This bed, Jace hadn't been invited to. Walking over to the bed, Alec sat down and waited for Jace. The omega seemed reluctant, smelt anxious. Right. This was Alec and Magnus' bed, it probably felt weird to Jace to sleep in it. Especially with Magnus being gone.
"Thank you, Jace. I really had a hard time sleeping since Magnus has been gone."
That did the trick. Jace walked over to him and sat down with him. After a moment, both of them laid down and Alec found himself pulling Jace against his chest. Jace purred softly as he snuggled up against Alec's chest. How good he smelt. How good he felt. Finally, Alec relaxed some.

Magnus was exhausted beyond belief. It was the dead of night when they reached their harbor. He was practically sleep-walking on his way to his home and the only thing keeping him going was the thought of getting his bed and his mate. The thought of his Alexander made him all giddy. Yet when he opened his bedroom door, he was pleasantly surprised to find not just his Alexander, but also Jace in it, the both of them entangled in each other. How gorgeous they looked together like that. Smiling pleased to himself, Magnus carefully and quietly closed the door behind himself. Next he kicked his boots off and put his vest and hat onto the desk. With some weight taken off, he paused and stared at the bed thoughtfully. His side of the bed was filled by a pretty blonde. Furrowing his brows, Magnus approached his side of the bed, because there was some space behind Jace. Carefully, he laid down behind the blonde, relaxing some. His eyelids fluttered shut as he found himself surrounded by the comforting scents of Alexander and Jace. Which made him notice just how much his bed smelt like the both of them. How curious. To get more comfortable, he laid an arm around Jace and Alec – with how close Jace and Alec laid, Magnus could easily cover them both. Jace made a small, content noise as Magnus settled against him. How easy and pleasant it was to fall asleep with both their scent surrounding him. He'd been cuddling up to Alec's shirt for the past three weeks on the ship, but the scent had faded at one point.
"Magnus," someone whispered very pleased in the morning, the first thing he heard.
When Magnus opened his eyes, he was greeted by Alec's bright smile. Magnus leaned in, returning the smile. Finally, he got to kiss his mate again. At least until someone between them grunted. Alec and Magnus parted and looked down at a sleepy, disgruntled omega. At least until Jace was more awake and realized Magnus was there. Surprisingly enough, there was no guilt or concern in his eyes, he simply smiled, as happy as Alec had been. Mh. That was a good sign.
"You're back," whispered Jace. "Welcome home. How was your raid?"
"It was very successful, sweetheart," replied Magnus before settling back down.
He liked the way Jace fit against his body and he liked the way all three of them fit into his bed. Jace didn't make any attempts of getting up or trying to get out. In the beginning, Jace had always tried to find excuses to leave them alone to give the couple some alone time. The longer he stayed on Edom though, the more Alec and Magnus managed to convince him to be comfortable around them. Spending time together. And, apparently, Alexander had even succeeded in making Jace comfortable in their bed. Magnus propped his head up so he could make eye-contact with Alec over their omega. He smirked at Alec, letting his gaze wander down toward Jace pointedly. Alec flushed.
"So... you seem quite comfortable here," noted Magnus, casually running a hand over Jace's ribs.
A frown formed on Jace's face as he seemed to consider getting up. Before he could, Magnus wrapped his arm fully around Jace, holding him in place, pulling him a little closer. Alec moved over closer too, laying an arm over Jace himself, so he could rest his hand on Magnus' waist.
"I couldn't sleep with you gone," admitted Alec. "Jace offered to comfort me. It... helped."
"I'm glad you had some comfort," Magnus leaned over Jace to kiss Alec softly.
"Yeah, Alec missed you like crazy. And I..." Jace swallowed. "I... missed you too."
"You did?" Magnus smiled very pleased at that. "Well, I have to say that... I very much like you right where you are. And I have to say, I've had a hard time sleeping in the past weeks too, I think I might need some additional comfort too. Perhaps... you should be in this bed more often..."
"I... should?" Jace looked surprised, staring from Magnus over to Alec.
"You should," declared Magnus, placing the most gentle kiss on Jace's cheek. "You're already Alec's mate. The way I see it, you belong in this bed. I want you in this bed. We both do."
Alec grinned softly and leaned in to kiss Jace too. The omega looked both confused and in awe. Like he couldn't entirely believe that this was an option, that this was being offered to him. Hope spread reluctantly over his face, until a full smile bloomed on his face. For the first time since Magnus knew him, he actually looked truly happy. That suited him quite well.
"Okay. I... I'd like that. I... I like the both of you too," admitted Jace nervously.
And here Magnus had left to get treasure, while the greatest treasures had waited for him at home. How beautiful. More daring this time, Magnus claimed Jace's lips in a real kiss. The omega made a surprised noise, but was quick to lean into the kiss, more and more, greedy to be kissed deeply, until Jace was practically laying sprawled on top of Magnus. Well now, if Jace looked good on that bed, then Magnus had to say he liked him even more right here.
"I missed you both," whispered Magnus when he pulled away from Jace.
Jace simply nodded, as though he wasn't entirely sure what to do with being missed. Smiling warmly at him, Magnus brushed Jace's hair out of his face. When Magnus turned to check in on his suspiciously quiet mate, he found Alec simply sitting there, with his head tilted, staring at them. As though he was painting a mental picture of Magnus and Jace wrapped around each other, to be saved to his memory and never forgotten. How precious.
"I got in rather late last night, so I wouldn't mind spending today in bed..."
Amusingly enough, Jace was quick to lay down on the bed, well, still half on Magnus, snuggling up to the captain and using his chest as a pillow. Alec crawled closer before he also laid down, resting his head on Magnus' shoulder and laying an arm around Jace's waist.
"Mh... I think I could get used to this," whispered Magnus pleased, Jace on one side, Alec on the other, his arms around them both to hold them close.
"Me too," Alec smiled dreamily at Jace, who was already fast asleep.
/break\
Jace was still getting used to his new routine. He'd been sleeping in the master bedroom with Alec for a few days before Magnus returned and during that time, he had felt guilty about it. Even if Alec reassured him that Magnus wouldn't mind, Jace had felt as though he was doing something wrong, because he had feelings for Alec, so this meant more to him than it did to Alec.
And then Magnus had returned and... it seemed that this also meant more to Alec. Even though Alec had explained to him that apparently he had been Alec's first love, Jace had a hard time digesting it. Love. Hearing that he was being loved, it was a bit overwhelming. It wasn't something he had ever expected. To be loved. But Alec had gently grasped his face to make him look at Alec and then the alpha had repeated, very clearly, that he loved Jace. And he had promised to say it, until Jace would finally believe it, and beyond. Jace's heart was racing every time Alec said it.
So now Jace got to go to bed with them, in the master bedroom, and fall asleep in their arms, where he'd wake up more well-rested than ever before in his life. They shared their meals with each other, exchanged gentle kisses and caresses. Jace and Alec would go to work and Magnus would pout and alternate between annoying Jace and Alec at their work-places.
When he couldn't go on a raid, Magnus Bane was easily bored. Which he had been able to deal with when they had first arrived at Edom, because back then, he had brought shiny, interesting new people with him! Alec, Jace and Izzy kept him occupied, because they were settling in. After weeks, Magnus had left for another raid and during that time, the three fully settled in. All of them by now had their own lives here. Which meant that no one had time for him, while he had nothing to do.
"He—ello, my lovely little omega."
Jace startled a little as arms wrapped around his waist from behind. Rolling his eyes, Jace put down Catarina's soup and then Luke's salad, while Madzie giggled cutely, making Jace assume that Magnus was making silly faces at her over Jace's shoulder. Once Jace had served the food to the Garroway family, he slowly turned around in his... boyfriend's arms.
"Half past one. Impressive. What, did you actually wear Alec down for that long, or did you find a different distraction before coming here?" asked Jace teasingly.
Jace reached up to cup Magnus' face before leaning in to kiss him softly. While Catarina laughed softly, Luke cleared his throat and gained their attention. Jace turned toward the mated pair.
"Jace... It's a slow day, why don't you take the rest off," offered Luke amused.
"Luke, don't enable him," chided Jace playfully, while Magnus wrapped his arms around Jace's waist and hoisted him up. "Alec and I are trying to teach him to keep himself occupied. Though we're also wondering, what did you do before we moved here...?"
"He annoyed us," offered Catarina. "Thank you for your service. It gives me free time."
Jace laughed a little at that and wrapped his legs around Magnus' waist to allow his alpha to better carry him off. His arms clung around Magnus' neck so he wouldn't fall off while Magnus happily carried him out of the inn. A light yelp escaped him when Magnus' hands adjusted to hold him by his butt, squeezing ever so slightly. Jace turned to glare pointedly at him.
"Where are you carrying me?" asked Jace, gently running his fingers through Mangus' hair.
Magnus gladly leaned into the caress. "I now have the perfect leverage to lure Alexander away from his work. If he doesn't crave for me, surely I can tempt him with our lovely omega."
Jace raised one pointed eyebrow, but he allowed his alpha to carry him all the way to the library. Alec groaned annoyed when the door opened, though the groan turned into a strangled sound when he saw Magnus carrying Jace in, with Jace's ass most likely being the first thing he saw.
"Magnus. Did you steal Jace away from work just so you can distract me?"
"I'm a pirate. I steal things," Magnus huffed defensively. "Shiny, golden treasure."
While saying that, he nosed at Jace's golden-blonde hair. Jace smiled amused and turned enough to look at Alec. His other alpha looked very annoyed and frustrated, but also defeated. He was closing the book he was working on and got up to walk around his desk toward them.
"Stop stealing my omega, you evil pirate," chided Alec playfully. "Gimme."
"No—o. Mine. I stole the shiny treasure, now he is all mine," declared Magnus, turning away from Alec. "I came to you first and you sent me away because you'd rather play with your books. Fine. Go and play with your books. Shoo. I have a beautiful omega to play with now."
Jace blinked slowly in disbelief as Magnus seriously stuck his tongue out at Alec like a pouty five-year-old. And then he squeezed Jace's butt again, making the blonde blush and Alec growl.
"I'll have you in shackles for that, pirate," growled Alec in warning.
"Mh... promises, promises," Magnus' voice dropped to a purr. "Well then, you first need to capture me before you can take my booty from me. Until then, I will be having a lot of fun with said booty."
"That is my booty you are talking about!" Jace slapped Magnus' chest.
"And it is a magnificent booty," assured Magnus, kissing Jace's cheek.
"And it is my magnificent booty," argued Alec with narrowed eyes, stepping up.
He rested his hands on Jace's waist, pushing up against the blonde and sandwiching their omega between them. Jace sighed delighted and rested his head back against Alec's shoulder.
"For the record, this is cheating, Magnus," Alec grumbled beneath his breath.
"How is it cheating? He is both of ours, I get to touch and carry," Magnus frowned.
"No. Not that. You, going to get Jace so you can team up on me to get me away from work. That is cheating. I'm trying to get work done here, Magnus," Alec narrowed his eyes at the pirate.
"For the record, I am entirely innocent in all of this. I was kidnapped by a pirate. Again."
"Mh... poor little omega," whispered Alec, gently kissing Jace's neck. "C'mon. Let's get home."
Magnus hummed pleased in agreement and turned to leave, though he made no attempts to put Jace down. And Jace was definitely not going to argue with that. He liked when his alphas did this. He smiled to himself as as their home came into sight. Home. The thought made Jace smile.
