Author notes: I don't own Generator Rex or its characters, just this plot. This is a self indulgent fic for me to write while I finish watching Generator Rex! I wrote this instead of doing my Chinese hw lol. I think Ive seen a couple active people on this site for Generator Rex so I made an account just for this story. Enjoy!

Rex is a very hard EVO to miss. Everyone and their mother can point out the infamous Providence agent. If your eyes skip over a tall, hulking mechanical figure loudly arguing with Bobo the chimp in the break room, you seriously need your eyes checked.

While Rex looks very threatening, with his pitch-black body and bright blue and orange highlights, Rex acts like a regular teenager. He goofs around, his body language exaggerated and awkward compared to the expected fearsome grace one might expect when they first lay eyes on Rex. He disobeys Agent Six and Doctor Holiday's rules on the regular and sneaks off base with his only friend, Bobo. A regular teen he could be, if not for one problem. His body.

You see, Rex is stuck in this mechanical form. Every part of his body is covered in some sort of unremovable metal plating. He can change parts of his body, like his fists, into giant mechanical limbs, but he can't shrink down and cast away the pesky and persistent metal.

Since two years ago when Rex was first discovered by Six, he has never been able to figure out how to return to a more human form.

Doctor Holiday has studied Rex's nanites and theorizes that Rex should be able to easily switch between his mech form and his unseen human skin, as he does with his builds but something wrong with his nanites is preventing him. In Holiday's spare time she works on a way to give back Rex his human form.

White Knight protests this use of spare time. He sees a human Rex as a liability. White Knight has made Holiday's priority job to figure out how to replicate Rex's mech form in Providence agents and to synthesize a permanent cure from Rex's nanites.

As far as White Knight is concerned, Rex is a dangerous EVO, only allowed to work at Providence because he's the only weapon that has the ability to permanently cure EVOs. Being able to turn into an easily killable human would be a liability and could cost the world its unsung savior in this nanite-ridden Earth.

Noah slowly inhales a shaky breath as he walks home. His hands are trembling, either out of nervousness or excitement, Noah can't really tell. The last couple of hours was...a lot.

On the way home from school, Noah was approached by a man and a woman in Providence uniforms.

His heart stilled when he first spotted the agents and realized they were singling him out and walking towards him with a purpose. Noah frantically racked his brains for any reason why the faceless agents of Providence would want him and came up short. He was a good kid who didn't get in trouble, especially not EVO trouble!

Noah was about to book it when he realized familiar someones were trailing behind the agents.

His parents' faces peeked from behind the agents' backs and they flashed Noah a big smile.

Huh?

The agents explained to him that he was chosen out of a few candidates to keep a certain Providence agent out of trouble. His grades were fairly good, and Noah had never had any past trouble with the law or the school so Providence thought him a good fit for keeping Agent Rex out of trouble.

They had already approached his parents earlier that morning to work out a deal to have Noah spend some time at Providence to keep Agent Rex under control. Noah's parents were skeptical at what the agents were asking Noah to do at first, but once it was fully explained out what exactly Noah would be doing and what benefits were coming from it, Noah's parents were more than happy to sign the waivers.

Noah was a little miffed at being signed up for what sounded like a full-time job without his say-so, but quickly shut up when the female agent showed him what Providence was going to be paying him.

The agents then took Noah away to speak with White Knight, the only nanite free human in the world, to go over his assignment.

Noah's new job was simple. He was to befriend Agent Rex, the infamous Providence agent, and keep him reeled in.

Noah knew about Agent Rex from TV and rumours that floated around the world. He knew that Rex was on the younger side and therefore tended to not be careful, and often would walk into a place and leave it in ruins. He knew from the fights on TV, Rex looked extremely scary, his mech's eyes glowing and steam coming off his body as it overheated during fights, and his body often covered in various EVO fluids. He also knew Rex was the only reason why Providence could even claim the cure part in the agency's "Cure, Kill, Contain" slogan.

In White Knight's talk with Noah, Noah learned a helluva lot more about Rex.

Clips from security cameras played on a big screen and Noah was expecting to watch maybe a rough around the edges young adult? A stubborn "We're only going to do it my way," kind of guy?

But instead, he was shown….a really depressed teenager. Well, maybe depressed wasn't the right word. Lonely? A sociable person forced to not socialize?

On-screen, Rex sat in the corner of a tiny bedroom bouncing a ball against the wall. His head hung low and his eyes glowed and he could hear angry muttering. The clip changed and Rex was busting out of a wall to sneak out, a chimp hanging onto him as he built a hoverbike to ride off into the night. Again the clip changed and Rex was onscreen, in the break room annoying all the Providence agents trying to have a minute of fun and accidentally destroying Providence property as he went around the room trying to get the agents' attention.

Noah could see why Providence would go so far as to hire Rex a friend.

As Noah arrived at his house and he crept silently inside, he steeled himself mentally for meeting Rex tomorrow.

Providence agents predicted he was going to head towards downtown, and they were sure they could subtly corral Rex towards where Noah was going to be spending the afternoon, the basketball court.

Then when Rex inevitably stumbled into the basketball court where Noah was going to be waiting for him, he'd act interested in Rex just enough that Rex would feel comfortable with calling him a friend.

The briefing Noah was given warned him that Rex would probably make a fool of himself trying to fit in with normal teens and when he was rejected, that was when he should swoop in. Somehow he was also going to have to convince Rex to take him to Providence where White Knight would 'reluctantly' allow Noah to come back to hang out with Rex again.

Tomorrow was gonna be a long day, and Noah couldn't say whether he was looking forward to it or not.
