"Come on Bobo, to the Petting Zoo!" Rex yelled, running down the stark white Providence hallway, bowling into the unsuspecting chimp with an oof.
Rex and Bobo hit the ground hard, shiny metal tumbling over fur.
Rex wrestled against Bobo and Bobo tried valiantly to gain the upper hand, but Rex had caught him off guard. He had just woken up from his afternoon nap only minutes before, leaving him sluggish. Ordinarily, Bobo could give Rex a decent run for his money in terms of strength, but this time Bobo quickly caved in.
Rex popped up victorious from the impromptu wrestling match with Bobo in his arms, hanging tiredly upside down.
"Bad day out in the-" Bobo yawned, swaying as Rex carried him off in the direction of the Petting Zoo. "Bad day out in the field, I presume?" he finished.
"Yup!" Rex declares in false cheer. "This time, I was berated for 'excessive scraping of materials'. Newsflash, random Providence Agent who decided they had a bone to pick with me and needed to lecture me! I'm made of metal! If an EVO throws me against a wall or the road and decides to drag me across the surface, take a wild guess about what's going to happen?" Rex's voice cracked from keeping up the false cheer in his voice.
"Your corners scratch up whatever you're thrown at?" Bobo guessed.
"Ding Ding Ding!" Rex bit out.
Rex's legs transformed into Rex's self-dubbed 'Rex Ride' as he sped through the last bit of hallway and towards the entrance of the Petting Zoo.
Rex held his hand out in front of him and as he passed by, he hit the button to open up one of the Petting Zoo's many entrances.
Just before Rex could smash into the doors, the entrance opened up quickly and Rex easily flew through before the doors could slam shut.
"Alright, time to blow off some steam Bobo!"
Rex revved his engines and Bobo clutched onto him for dear life.
Letting out a holler of delight, Rex zoomed into the thick of things. He swerved and dodged the Petting Zoo's inhabitants as they came into his path as he raced around the perimeter of their enclosure.
As he passed by them, some of the EVOs gave chase and tried their best to catch Rex. Rex outmaneuvered them with a move he came up with from being shoved into random Providence piloting lessons and seamlessly deconstructed his Rex ride and constructed his boogie pack to perform an inside loop to place himself behind the EVOs before reverting back into his Rex ride, making the former chasers the ones being chased.
He corralled them towards the large pool in the center of the Petting Zoo before the EVOs caught on to where Rex was leading them to and scattered at the sight of the water.
"Hey Bobo, you think they fed Moe today yet?" Rex yelled to Bobo behind him as he barrelled towards the pool holding the large aquatic EVO and over it.
"Obviously not!" Bobo screeched out as Moe rose from the depths and burst out of the water, jaws open in anticipation of his lunch.
Rex grazed Moe's jaws which flipped the Rex ride upside down over Moe's mouth. Rex ride quickly dismantled and Rex pulled out the punk busters and used Moe's teeth to spring back into the safety of the air.
Punk busters disappeared and Rex let himself follow his trajectory into the sandy shores of the pool. His feet hit the ground and he skidded to a stop.
"Absolutely under no circumstances am I letting you take me anywhere near Moe anymore," Bobo panted out. "Either Moe will finally eat me one day, or I am gonna die from adrenalin."
"But there's nothing else fun to do with you that I don't have to walk on glass to enjoy," Rex dramatically groaned out, glowing sad puppy eyes directed at Bobo.
"Not true!" Bobo protested. "There's, uh. There's…" Bobo stopped to really think. Rex was pretty much not welcomed in any of the break rooms, or at Poker Thursdays, or any games held in the gym…
"Hmm. Ok, I see your point."
Bobo's eyes trail over to the Petting Zoo exit that leads directly outside the base. He gives Rex a look.
Rex looks at Bobo. He then looks over to the exit. His eyes widened.
"Do you really think we should?" Rex whispers to Bobo in disbelief.
"What I think is that you need a change of scenery. I overheard from a couple of agents yesterday that there's a more secluded basketball court in town they use when they want some alone time off base. You get a change of scenery, and I can grab some food nearby and it's a decent outing!"
Rex rubbed the back of his head.
"I don't know Bobo. Aren't I really recognizable?" He waved his hand towards his body vaguely. "I don't wanna show up and then get found by someone holding a grudge against me."
"Who's gonna win, some human or the kid whose job is to beat up giant natural disaster level EVOs."
"Ok, when you put it that way now I just sound silly for worrying."
Rex placed his hands on the exit and let the blue glowing circuitry spread from his hands and into the door, nanites bypassing the Petting Zoo's locking mechanism and opening it. Rex and Bobo stepped out into the evening air.
Unbeknownst to them, in a private training room, Six feels his phone buzzing in his left pocket. It's time.
