Audrey nearly spat her shake out, her eyes widening in shock for a moment before she swallowed the drink and tried to paint on a poker face.

"Uh, no. Why do you ask?"

Hunter raised an eyebrow, obviously not believing her.

"Because I saw one earlier today that looked pretty much exactly like you. Same hair, same freckles, same..."

He hesitated for a moment, looking away.

"...same build. Same everything? C'mon, it was either you, or you have a twin sister."

He looked back to her, blushing slightly.

"Look. I'm not trying to blow your cover or whatever. I wanted to reach out because there are more people like us at Longstreet High."

Audrey put her shake down, slowly exhaling.

"Us?"

Hunter rubbed the back of his head.

"Yeah... maybe should've opened with that."

He glanced around to make sure nobody was looking (the restaurant was virtually empty) before creating a small flame in the palm of his hands and immediately extinguishing it.

"And I'm far from the only one at that school that has powers."

Hunter sighed.

"It's not exactly a secret that this town is going to shit. I was thinking maybe, I dunno... if we worked together we could stop it. So please, be honest. You're a superhero, right?"

Audrey crossed her fingers anxiously for a moment before nodding.

"Yeah... yes. I'm a superhero."

It felt insane to say it out loud. Especially to another person, and one she barely knew at that.

"I go by Golden Girl. What's your hero name?"

Hunter grinned, flexing a bit.

"The Crimson Crusader. Not bad, huh?"

She smiled politely, tilting her head a bit to the side.

"Uh, yeah... so, who else do you know at our school that has powers?"

He glanced side to side again to make sure nobody was looking (the restaurant was still empty).

"You know Josey, right? The blonde one?"

Audrey nodded slowly in disbelief.

"Yeah, I sit with her at lunch. Seriously? She has powers? How did I never find out?"

Hunter finally relaxed enough to take a big bite out of his burger, talking as he chewed.

"Well, for most people it's pretty hard to tell. You're pretty easy to recognize even with a costume... I mean... well, you get what I mean."

He slurped his Dr Pepper loudly while Audrey took all of it in.

"So... people know I'm a superhero?"

Hunter waved his hands frantically.

"No no no, no, most people don't really pay any attention to small timers like us. I was just on the lookout and happened to spot you. Plus, I'd always had my suspicions, ever since you broke that desk last year."

Audrey blushed. She'd been super stressed out during an exam they were taking and accidentally pushed the pencil into the desk so hard it snapped. The desk, that is- the pencil somehow managed to survive. At the time it was waved off as the desk being about to break anyway, and seeing as how Longstreet High was horrendously underfunded, nobody really batted an eye. Still, it was embarrassing. She slid a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Yeah... I can see how that might tip somebody off. So... did you tell Josey about me? We should definitely meet up with her if we're gonna do this whole 'teaming up' thing."

Hunter rubbed his neck sheepishly.

"Well... the thing about that is, she kinda hates me. Like, 'wants to kill me' hates me. I tried approaching her like I approached you, but she thought I was trying to threaten her with revealing her identity. I know she's your friend, but she's completely nuts. She totally flipped when I explained how I found out she was a superhero. You know how I could tell you were the superhero I saw on the street because of your... build? I said the same thing to her and she tried blasting my head off with a laser beam! Jeez."

Now that she looked, Audrey could see the faded hole in the booth behind Hunter as he leaned back over to munch on his fries. She wasn't surprised that she freaked out when he told her that- Josey had always been insecure about her butt. Like Audrey's breasts, it was almost comically enormous, with hips and thighs splaying out enormously on her backside. Guys tended to either ogle, make fun of her, or both. For her to hear that Hunter had stared at her ass enough to identify it even though she was wearing a costume... yeah, that couldn't have been fun. But that had to be put aside. If the powered students could all link up, they might actually be able to make a difference. While Hunter gorged on his burger, Audrey resolved that they would finally do something about the spree of villains in their town, and fix their city once and for all... or at least make it more livable.
