The moment I declared my new name to the girl, Yasaka, I watched as her eyes widened in fear and started to hug the unconscious boy, Kurama, to herself tightly.
Although it did sting a little that my new name was met with fear, it was understandable. It was only a few hours ago that her entire life was destroyed by two Dragons, and now, she was forced to look at another Dragon who could easily tear her apart limb for limb and she would not be able to do anything to fight back.
"Do not fear, Little Yasaka, I would not bring any harm to you or the boy"
Although the fear was not completely removed from her eyes, I could see a small amount of courage and determination appear in those golden orbs.
I slowly raised my arm, to appear as non-threatening as I can and used my magic to control the flames all over the town.
With an ease born of centuries of use, the draconic flames obeyed my will and immediately flew into my open palm until there was not a single ember left on the town. Once done, I opened my mouth as the Flames flew into my maw and were directly converted into magic power.
I could feel Yasaka's awe-filled stare at my back but I did not look towards her. Instead, I looked towards the battlefield.
I could easily sense that something was wrong, the four beings that I have associated with the Etherious were gone, most likely dead due to their clash with the White being of power and the two dragons. But I could also sense that the being himself was also quite injured, I could already feel his essence leaking out of the mortal shell he had crafted for himself. If I were to guess, I would say he only has a few more hours to live before his essence scatters across the world and he ceases to exist.
Suddenly, the power around the White being surged as his essence dropped drastically.
I focused my eyes to the limit and what I saw stunned me.
The being was using some kind of magic that was related to the manipulation of the soul to forcefully pull out the souls of the two dragons. But it would seem that this technique that he used is also draining his essence at an alarming rate. A suicidal technique if I ever saw one.
But the being has underestimated the tenacity of the Dragon race.
BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST! BOOST!
DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE! DIVIDE!
Once again, the two dragons started to shout that strange spell of theirs, the red one's aura doubled with each shout while the white one drained the power from the humanoid with each shout to add to his own. Quite the peculiar set of powers for dragons.
The White being immediately let go of his spell and teleported out of the range of the dragons, with their target gone, the two dragons returned to clashing among themselves.
I felt the path that the being took through space-time and was mildly surprised that his destination was directly in front of me.
Surely, this being was not so unlucky as to randomly teleport and end up facing dragons the moment he comes out?
I could not hide my amusement as the being nearly fell on his rear the moment he realized that he has, once again, involuntarily, appeared in front of a Dragon in the middle of a battlefield.
He immediately went on guard and began to charge his power when I released the full brunt of my magic power which pushed down on his body as a physical force.
"Peace, creature, I mean you no harm," I said but the being scoffed even when he was struggling to fight against my power.
"No harm you say? This coming from a Dragon of all things, in the middle of a ruined town that shows the clear signs of being burned down by Dragon fire, standing in front of two children which he is no doubt about to devour as a snack, forgive me if I do not believe you." He said as he forcefully started to push his power out of his body in hopes of escaping my pressure.
If he was in his prime, I have no doubt he would have succeeded in his attempt and would have enough power to spare to give me a good fight. But I could tell that in this weakened state, what he was doing is a stupid move.
"Calm down, the more you use your power the faster you burn through your essence and would end up in a state worse than death. As for your earlier question, the town was an unfortunate casualty of those two dragons clashing on the battlefield, and I do not plan on eating those children, in fact, I don't need to eat anything to sustain myself, period."
"I-It is true, Bahamut saved us from being crushed under the building and he was the one who put out the fire in the town" Yasaka spoke up from behind my legs as her head peeked out from her safety. I failed to realize when she had moved Kurama and herself behind me and used me as a shield against the white being. She seems to have strong survival instincts.
The being seems to slacken a little at my words regarding the dragons and he stopped pushing his power after hearing Yasaka's words.
"Those two truly are the bane of all existence, they never seem to realize all the pain and misery they cause to all the mortal creatures of the world in their eternal struggle for victory over each other. If only I was at my prime, I would have easily been able to contain those two into Sacred Gears so that they could become an asset to humanity, but with my failed attempt just now, I no longer have the power to contain those two."
It would seem that whatever this creature was, he was fighting for the sake of preserving mortal lives. An admirable trait for a being of power such as itself. He at least had better morals than those stupid dragons from my home.
Maybe, this could be a chance for me to atone for some of my countless sins?.
"Then how would you like to try again while I distract those two?"
The being looked at me with surprise before a happy smile came upon his face.
"It seems that I have truly misjudged you, dragon, I would gratefully accept your help."
I nodded before I started to pull on my magic to take up my true form.
My body was covered in a shroud of dense magic before I felt the all too familiar sense of my body distorting. My lone arm extended as claws grew from my hand, protrusions similar to bones grew from my elbows as my neck elongated, my skull was in pain for a brief moment before I gained the near 360-degree vision of my dragon form. A massive tail that ended with a shape similar to that of an ax extended from my lower body. Two pitch-black feathered wings extended from my back as blue markings appeared all over my form.
Once upon a time, I was called the Black Dragon of Apocalypse. But from today, I would be known as the Dragon of Magic.
My attempt at redemption starts today.
"Before I forget, tell me your name, it would get tiresome if I have to continue to call you a creature," I said as I turned my massive head towards the now ant-sized White being.
The being stopped looking at my form with an impressed look and gave a mirth-filled look towards my face.
"That is quite the rude thing to call someone, I am called by many names, but the most common would be, The Lord of Heaven, The One true God, but I prefer YHWH most than any other."
Another being that called itself God? Seriously when will these beings learn that there is no such thing as a true god? But, at least this creature had more right than those weaklings back home to call himself a God with his massive power, so I might as well humor him.
"Very well, YHWH, I am Bahamut, the Dragon of Magic"
I looked towards the two children I had rescued just a few moments ago when another thought occurred to me.
I could already sense that the entire town was already evacuated with not a single soul left aside from the two children, YHWH and myself. Since I could not take the two children to the battlefield, I might as well teleport them to where I could sense the greatest concentration of people that gave off the same kind of feeling as that of the children. Once I am done with this battle, I would escort them back towards their homes.
"Little Yasaka, I am going to use my power to send you and little Kurama towards your people, stay with them until I find you again, then I will escort all of you back to your homes"
Yasaka jumped as her eyes that were taking in my form with awe snapped towards me after hearing my words. Her eyes dimmed a little when I said that I would teleport them towards her people but they lit up again when I said I would return for them.
"P-Promise?"
I could not help the amused chuckle that left my throat as my emotions became turbulent again.
So this is what it felt like to be trusted. It was not a bad feeling.
I simply nodded my head as I concentrated on my magic.
Space bent on itself at my will as a rift formed to connect the folded space around the children to another distant location. A barrier made of magic surrounded the children so that they would not be harmed by the dangerous energies of the hole in space-time before they were engulfed by the rift.
"Let us go, YHWH, we have two dragons to hunt"
(POV Third Person)
Ddraig and Albion. Two dragons that were known throughout the world as the Two Heavenly Dragons.
No one knows when they came into existence nor do they know why they fight, but it is said that they have been around since the dawn of time itself. Some believe that they were conceptual beings born out of nothingness just like the two divine dragons, Great Red, and Ophis. Some believe that they are alien creatures that had arrived on their world after destroying their own world in their infinite struggle for victory over each other. But the thing that most creatures can agree upon, is the fact that they should not be provoked no matter what.
It was an agreement that came after the countless civilizations that perished under the wrath of the two.
The time they had Sunk Atlantis when the Atlantian king was foolish enough to attack the two in hopes of subduing them and turning them into his slaves.
The time they burned down the castle that Vortigern was trying to build upon their temporary prison in Wales multiple times to show their displeasure before Merlin had no choice but to free them from their imprisonment.
The Time they had rampaged through the ancient Pompeii, burying it in volcanic ash after they forced Mt. Vesuvius to explode with their power, petty revenge against Zeus who had at that time taken the form of Jupiter and tried to take down the two dragons with his lighting, it was especially devastating for the god due to the fact that his most favored and beloved demigod of that time was living on that land at the time of their attack, a fact that dragons knew all too well.
Once again, they struck Crete as they caused a massive earthquake that leveled the city on the land, another revenge against Zeus as he once more lost a beloved child of his to two for his second attempt at attacking the Heavenly duo.
Such disasters throughout history were what cemented the fact that no god or demon should ever fight the Heavenly duo under any circumstances.
But on this day, a Dragon that came out of nowhere, a God that is worshipped all over the world, are about to fight these monsters of absolute power in hopes of bringing peace to this world that had lived under their terror for countless eons.
The two Dragons had already sensed my approach the moment I took to the skies, no doubt they sensed my magic energy spike during my transformation.
The two took a side look at me before breathing out a massive torrent of Dragon fire before going back to fighting each other. They must have thought that I was a low-level Wyvern if they think this small amount of flames would do me in.
It took the power of seven elements combining to form a single flame that exceeded the power of these two whelps to bring me down. Even then, that attack had only destroyed my spiritual form. It took the combined power of an entire continent full of human mages of great power to truly kill my physical body. And I am sure as hell that these two are nowhere near as strong as that kind of a level.
I simply opened my maw and sucked in the flames, turning it into my own power before I sent out my own breath attack.
A torrent of pure magic shot out of my mouth like a laser blast, carving out wounds on the two dragons who gave an unholy screech as if their very souls were in agony, which in fact was true.
An attack made of pure magic is not something that primarily attacks the physical form, it instead attacks the soul of the target.
The two dragons turned towards me and growled out something that I did not know how I understood.
"Get lost Whelp, do not interfere with our fight"
"Get out of here, youngling, before I am forced to kill you"
Something in my instinct screamed out and my body followed involuntarily. Growls erupted from my mouth in the same language as those to spoke. My thoughts directly converting into words.
"I am no whelp, weaklings, I am the Dragon of Magic, Bahamut, and I am here to challenge you two"
It only took a few seconds for the two Dragons to fly towards me with absolute rage in their eyes.
The following fight was something that got me excited for the first time in a long while.
The two dragons attacked me with reckless abandon, blinded by their rage, they failed to realize that I was just toying with them while dodging their attacks and buying time for YHWH to do his thing.
Looking at the two dragons attacking blindly, I could not help but think back to the time I too was nothing more than a raging, mindless, monster. Who knows how long it will take for these two to realize their mistakes as I had done? And how long would they wallow in despair after they learn of the truth?.
I hope that the day would be soon because I know for a fact that they were going to spend a long time imprisoned after today and they would have plenty of time to change.
The dragons suddenly stopped attacking and once more screeched in pain as I could see their souls visibly being pulled out of their bodies in an agonizing way.
Slowly, the two souls pulsing with power were pulled out of their bodies and shot off towards YHWH who held out his hand.
I stopped covering my form in magic and transformed back into my human form before teleporting towards his side.
I was shocked by how drastically his essence had leaked out by now, whereas before, he had a few hours to live, but now, he only had a few more minutes left.
He looked down at the two screaming souls before he looked up at me with a wry smile.
"It would seem that I have failed, Bahamut" At his words, I could not give a confused look.
He once more laughed humorlessly at my look before speaking again.
"While I have succeeded in my target of snatching out their souls, I had to sacrifice the two containers I had prepared beforehand for them long ago so that I could gain enough power to tear their souls out from their flesh. Now, I have the souls, but consequently, I no longer have the containers to store them in, with me only having a few minutes left to live, the moment I die, their souls would once more return to their bodies and all would have been for naught." He hung his head in despair as he continued to stare at the souls.
This is quite the problem indeed.
But YHWH has forgotten one thing. He may be unable to provide a proper container for those souls right now, but that does not mean that I cannot.
I concentrated on my magic while bringing up the memory of a certain woman that was one of the few that was able to stand on equal grounds with me in the past.
I slowly raised my arm towards the still corpses of the two dragons while bringing out the enchantment magic that belonged to the famed Queen of Dragons before her fall into insanity just like himself. A woman that was responsible for creating the Dragon Slayer magic in the first place.
With my enchantment magic, I tore apart the flesh and bone of the two dragons and manipulated their near invulnerable bodies to my desire.
I compressed the flesh, bone, and scales of the Red Dragon into the form of a gauntlet. The dragon that smelled of pride and domination would forevermore serve as but a helping hand of its wielder, helpless to do anything as his power would be robbed from him and used to fulfill the desires of its wielder.
In the same way, I compressed the body of the White Dragon into that of two wings of energy. The dragon that smelled of envy and Supremacy would now be forced to watch others reign supreme in the sky with power stolen from him.
"I believe these would be perfect vessels for those arrogant creatures, no?" I turned towards YHWH who looked dumbfounded at my cruel deed. I may have begun my redemption and I may have started to not be controlled by my power, but my hatred towards the accursed Dragons remains the same.
YHWH just gave a small smile as he let go of the souls which immediately flew towards their own bodies that would now serve as their ultimate prison. A prison they cannot escape due to the fact that they were made from their very bodies.
YHWH then did something that connected the two objects to some kind of a web of magical energy before they disappeared along the path of the web.
"With this, Humanity would have two more powerful assets against the supernatural, I thank you, my friend, for your assistance," he said as his body slowly started to fall apart.
Suddenly, pillars of light erupted from nearby before four humanoid creatures, each with six pairs of white wings and a strange glowing Halo over their head flew towards YHWH.
The woman among the group started to tear up at the sight of his eroding body when the four suddenly realized that he was not alone.
The one in the center narrowed his eyes before power rushed forth from him as a sword made of light materialized in his hands. But any further action was halted when YHWH spoke.
"Stop, my dear children, he is no enemy. He is a friend who helped me in my quest and I hope that the Heavens would continue to consider him a friend even after I am gone."
"Father!" once more, the girl started to cry as the other three also started to shed tears.
YHWH must have been a good father if even beings of powers such as these were shedding tears at his death.
Watch them have a tearful goodbye left me in a sour mood. I would have surely used my healing powers on YHWH if I did not know for a fact that it would be futile. Whatever YHWH was, his essence was deeply linked to the very magic of the world, as such, no matter what kind of healing I use, I would not be able to stop his essence from returning back to its origin.
I looked away from the group before concentrating on where Yasaka and Kurama were supposed to be.
Since the problem has been taken care of, for now, I might as well return to those younglings.
