Reese pulled into the exposed aggregate driveway of the 15,200 square foot Melrose mansion. She didn't know how she ended up there, her car seemed to lead the way. She stiffly walked up the driveway to the front doors; the house was dark, gloomy…it was grey. She rang the doorbell and heard it echo throughout the house. She waited a few moments before ringing it again. No answer. She gently pushed open the door. It was unlocked.
"Hello?" she called out in the darkness.
"Ana?" a quiet voice lingered in the air.
"Christian?" Reese said hesitantly approaching the sunken in living room.
A disheveled Christian Grey sat on the floor in the now half-empty living room, his back propped up against the white couch. His hair was ruffled, his shirt unbuttoned and open. One arm lay propped on his bent knee, his hand clutching a glass. He looked like hell.
"Reese?" he whispered, looking up "What are you doing here?"
"Heard about your divorce being finalized, figured you could use a friend," she said walking closer towards him.
"A friend," he scoffed, taking a sip of his drink "is that what you are?"
"I'm anything you need," she smiled crouching down beside him, "but I do charge extra."
"I don't need anymore friends," his voice cracked, "You shouldn't be here."
"Why not?"
"I'm emotionally—"
"Unhinged," she interrupted, forcing a smile, "yea I figured you would be, but I need you to pull it together because we have our first private showing in the morning."
"Yea," he sighed, emitting a small laugh and then sighed deeply, "It just all ended so quickly."
"Hmm," she said sitting next to him.
"You know, they don't tell you that when it's over that the other person…" he stopped mid-sentence.
"What?"
"Nothing. You wouldn't understand," he said taking another sip of his drink.
"It's like they take a part of you with them," she said softly staring into the darkness.
"What do you know about it," he scoffed, looking at her.
"You're not the only person that's experienced heart break," she said turning to meet his softened gaze.
"Did he take something from you?" he said gently.
"Everything," she whispered.
"She took the best parts of me," his voice cracked again.
"What happened," Reese urged.
"A friend needed me," he said in a low voice, "I should have known better."
"I don't understand," she looked at him confused, "was it an ex- girlfriend or something?"
"You should go," he said firmly, regaining his composure.
"Why?" she raised her brow.
"Because you don't know me," he said again firmly, "and I would like to linger in the silence alone, if you don't mind.
"But I thought you wanted us to get to know each other," confusion settling in her voice, "That's what you said."
"I was wrong," he said standing, "I'll be ready for tomorrow's showing."
"Okay," she hesitated, standing to her feet, "I guess I should go."
He grunted and nodded without another word. Reese walked back to her car confused. Christian was the most complicated man she had ever encountered. She got back out the car and stormed up the driveway. She wasn't through with him yet, she needed answers for her own sake.
"Christian!" she shouted into the darkness, towards the living room.
"I thought I told you to leave," he demanded, the silhouette of him coming from the opposite direction.
"I'm not leaving," she said firmly, "I need to make sure that you get your shit together. If you fuck-"
"Leave," he said roughly, lunging towards her pressing her up against the wall.
Reese squirmed beneath his firm grip, it felt like he was going to push her through the wall. She could feel his warm breath creeping on her lips; there was a faint smell of gin. His mood visibly changed as she fidgeted. His eyes softened and his grip loosened. She could feel his breathing slow, and he emitted soft grunts as he scanned her face.
"You should go," he said staring in her eyes, that were holding back tears. He had frightened her.
"Ok," her voice shaking.
"And you should stay away from me," he said letting her go.
"Why," she said softly.
"Because I am a ruin to beautiful things," he whispered.
"I'm already ruined," she said in a breathy voice.
