Why do I do this to myself? Yes, su'cuy (hello) people, I am back...starting another series...DX I don't know why.
Here's the thing with this one, this was actually the first vacation humor series I worked on (Yes, this was my inspiration for Grounded for those of you who have read it; if you haven't...I'll be honest, I don't suggest it ;D) It's been a while since I posted because I'm still working on GOA and I was looking in my 'completed file' for what I had that was semi-finished and somewhat post-able...this was it. (Technically I was supposed to have posted this two/three weeks ago, but please don't judge)
Anyway, hope you enjoy another Rex and Cody story. :D
Anakin Skywalker sighed as he scrolled through the miles of data on the holo-screen, a frown tugging at his lips. It was all of Rex's work; the reports on the troops conditions, the analysis for how to make Skywalker's crazy contraptions work on the battle field, the plans for the battles from the past three weeks, everything. And nearly all of it was barely legible.
''Uh, Captain?'' he called, motioning for him to join him, ''Everything going ok?''
''Sir?''
Ahsoka, now interested, glided over from her position at the star charts and peered at the hastily written words scrawled on the screen. Then she let out a sharp hiss in surprise.
''Whoa, Master, I see what you mean. Hey, Rexster, you been practicing a new language or something? If so, I think you need to be reminded of how to write in Basic.''
''Rex, when was the last time you slept?''
Rex blinked, glancing from them to the holo-screen, peering at his work. Well, he tried to, but his vision was blurring and he had to briefly rub one eye before he could make out words. He frowned. The screen looked fine to him.
''Uh, sir?'' he repeated, confused.
Anakin shared raising an eyebrow with his Padawan, knowing both of them were thinking the same thing. Ahsoka pointed out the bridge door and demanded, ''Bed.''
''Commander, that's not necessary. Besides its only-''
''Bed.'' she repeated, more sternly, glaring at him.
Cocking his head, Rex glanced at Skywalker, who crossed his arms over his chest and nodded at Ahsoka. ''She seems to know what to do; I'm letting her take over for this.''
''Sir, really, I'm fine.''
''Nope, you're not.'' Ahsoka took him by the wrist and began leading him away.
''Commander,'' he groaned, stopping, which caused her to jerk backwards. ''I can't sleep now. I have work to do.''
''Don't make me turn this into an order, Rex. Yes, you do have work to do; it's called dreaming. Now get to your quarters.''
As Rex opened his mouth to protest again, the chime on the holo-table chirped. Rolling his eyes, Anakin opened the link and Obi-wan Kenobi appeared on screen.
''Anakin, could I possibly borrow your captain for the moment? I know the 501st isn't very good at sharing.''
''No, master,'' Ahsoka said, straining as she tried to shove Rex towards the door. ''He's busy.''
''Not a chance, kid.'' he mumbled. Then he stepped forward. ''What do you need, sir?''
''Rex,'' Ahsoka groaned, bumping up in front of him to block Obi-wan's view - which...was impossible given that he was taller then her by a head and a half. ''No; sorry, master. We're working out some technical difficulties.''
''Technical difficulties?'' Obi-wan huffed, raising an eyebrow skeptically, ''Really?''
''Yes.'' Ahsoka grunted.
''No, we are not.'' Rex insisted, ''What do you need, General?''
Ahsoka frowned, pressing the back of her hand against his cheek. ''Are you sick? You're disobeying.''
But before he could answer as he jerked away from her touch, she turned to Anakin. ''Is he sick? Does he look sick? I think he's acting sick.''
''He's definitely not himself,'' Skywalker agreed. ''Maybe I should call Kix...''
Rex balked. ''No, sir; As I said, that's not necessary.''
''Hrrm,'' Obi-wan stroked his beard thoughtfully. ''So it's happening to him too?''
Skywalker raised an eyebrow. ''What?''
''Being particularly stubborn and refusing to sleep. Which sounds like some one else I know.'' he glared pointedly off screen.
''Sir, I am completely capable of completely my work on my own,'' a stern voice said as Commander Cody stepped into view. ''I don't need to have my job taken over by an underling.'' He glared at Rex, who bristled visibly, muttering, ''Underling, my foot,'' under his breath.
Ahsoka paused for a moment, turning her attention from Rex to Cody. ''Have you slept lately?'' she asked, hands on her hips as her lip curled, her stance already telling everyone that she knew the answer.
''Of course, I did.'' Cody sputtered. ''A while ago. Now if you will please excuse me, I have-''
''Oh, no you don't,'' Ahsoka growled, glaring at him now. ''You stay right there until I'm done with talking to you and not before. A while ago,'' she challenged, ''When? I want the exact date and time.''
''Commander Tano, that's not-''
''Cody, I don't give a bantha hide. I am putting my foot down; You will listen to me and you will both go to sleep.'' She stood in-between them, fists planted firmly on her hips and glaring at both of them. ''Am I understood?''
Everything on the deck of the Resolute paused, the crew watching in surprise, suddenly glad that they had their helmets on to block any laughter that escape their throats. Those at the commpanels with their backs turned to the scene tried to stifle their chuckles. When ever Ahsoka Tano made a scene, she made a scene...And bossing around two senior officers was definitely enough to fit into that category.
There was silence. . .
''Well?'' she demanded.
Cody and Rex just looked at each other.
Finally, they nodded. ''We'll think about it.''
But as they both turned to go, Ahsoka held up a hand. ''Ah-ah-ah, I'm not done yet.'' she turned to Obi-wan, ''Master, may Cody come spent the night on the Resolute? I want to make absolutely, positively, beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt sure that they sleep.''
Obi-wan glanced at Anakin. ''I don't think there's any way I can convince you otherwise even if I tried. Alright, Ahsoka; the shuttle will arrive in a few moments.''
''Thank you, master.'' she said, her voice too sweet and too calm to be anything but worrying for the clones, ''I'll make sure that a place is prepared for him.''
Then she slapped the commlink off, taking deep breaths before turning slowly to the captain.
''Captain, you just gave me a lot of trouble that could have been avoided. When Cody gets here, you will be the first one to meet him and you will be the one to set up the room in your quarters, or else, I have complete access to Kix on his free time and I am not afraid to use it. Got it?''
Rex, unable to do anything else, merely nodded mutely.
''Good,'' she snapped tersely, ''Now move it.''
And she marched him out of there with as much purpose as anyone had ever seen her, fists clenched and lips tight as she walked with Rex in front of her like a man confined to his doom...
And there we have it, chapter one :) Hope you enjoyed this brief part of the story and could hear the character's voices as you were reading. I do have the next two to three chapters complete (again, digging through the writing files), but I probably will be holding off just a little for each one.
Note: For you poor people whom I have been torturing with suspense from lack of posting for my other series going on right now, I promise I am working on it. This chapter is just kind of complicated right now. However, I will get it out...eventually ;D
