Hey, guys, it has been a while :) ...with this one anyway. So, because of that (and because this is technically mostly a spring-to-summer-ish time story) this will probably be on hiatus in-between chapters since my schedule just tightened significantly and there's a lot going on already with writing. As that is the case, the chapters will undoubtedly be going down in word count (fingers crossed XD)
Anyway, that's all I have to say, and I hope you enjoy this brief chapter! :D
Ten minutes later found the pair sneaking through the star destroyer, heads down and taking the most remote passages to the hanger. They had changed into the civilian clothes that Ahsoka had brought them, but that didn't mean that they felt comfortable in walking around the Resolute without their armor. It felt odd. Too light almost.
How do the civvies live in stuff like this? Rex wondered.
However it was, it was far beyond him. This was his first time out of uniform besides his dress Greys and the BDUs and he wasn't sure he would mind it being his last...at least, if he could help it being his last. But that was assuming that Skywalker didn't guilt trip them into another vacation like he did this one.
Key word: assuming.
Probability of it happening anyway despite the clones protests and pleas: High. . . Very. High.
Feeling unnaturally exposed without his helmet, the captain's cheeks flushed a slight red; he could already see the expressions on his men's faces when he stepped into that hanger. Usually, his expressions were hidden by his bucket. Not this time. Which meant that everyone would be able to see just how embarrassed he felt about this.
Really, Ahsoka? Did you have to make it this awkward?
He knew he wouldn't be able to sleep on the 'vacation' to come. There was no way. The unseen faces of his brothers laughing behind his back was too vivid in his imagination. And he knew himself well enough to know that he'd probably being staying up worrying the whole night about the very group of people who were currently trying to get rid of him for the week. *sigh* the things people do for love.
Beside him, Cody was thinking more or less the same thing.
What the heck! I'm never going to live this down, will I? Waxer, Quark, Ponds, and Stone will never let me. Oh, dang, what have I gotten myself into. No, what has Rex gotten me into? Kriff, I thought the concept of 'brothers' meant 'I got your back . . . Which is typically why I can laugh behind your back and know one would be the wiser.' Kenobi, you just had to give in to Ahsoka, didn't you?
Despite how loud they felt their thoughts were, the halls were silent. No one passed them, no one could be heard except for those on the deck above them. But they were too busy with imagining their expectantly-horrible-near-futures to consider how unnatural that was. At the last few corridors, they tip-toed past the random few troopers milling about, then managed to slip into the hanger undetected, crouching behind a stack of crates near their destination. The coast was fairly clear so they decided to take the chance of having to dash the fifteen paces to the open hatchway.
But the moment their first foot slid out from behind the crate. . .
FLaSH!
Cody and Rex blinked, startled by the sudden blinding light in their eyes.
''Agh, hey!'' they protested.
''General,'' Rex sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. ''Seriously?''
Skywalker shrugged innocently, ''What? I've considered starting a scrapbook so I need photos to put into it.'' he teased, handing the camera to Ahsoka as she peered through her rectangle-positioned fingers.
''Hey, Codes, mind if you scooch a smudget to the left, just a little closer to the Rexster? I need to get you more in the shot.''
''No.''
''Oh, come on, PLEASE?''
''I've already agreed to too much; don't push it, Commander.'' he glared at her.
She pouted, putting her hands on her hips, but she stopped talking.
''Fine, since she can't do it.'' Skywalker smirked, motioning for the commander to do exactly as she had said.
Grudgingly, he did so and Anakin got the photo he wanted.
Once that was done, Anakin turned to face the rest of the hanger, bringing up a hand to cup his mouth.
At the same time, both Cody and Rex thought: Oh, no! Skywalker, you wouldn't!
He would. He did.
''HEY, GUYS! COME SEE REX AND CODY OFF, WILL YA?''
Like a swarm, they came from everywhere; white smears colliding into blobs, expanding into an ocean of white and black.
Skywalker smirked over his shoulder at them. ''The guys wanted to see you off. After all, they won't be seeing you for a week.''
He gestured for the troops to form a line leading to the shuttle, motioning for the two main officers to follow him through the walls of troops.
''Don't forget to wave,'' he added cheekily.
Behind them, Ahsoka was prancing a bit too cheerfully as they made their way over to the shuttle. In front of them, Skywalker was waving dramatically, motioning for the troops to loudly (and obnoxiously) cheer.
If there was one word that described the scene the best for both captain and commander, it would have been: living death.
They actually couldn't wait for the silence of transport ship.
Moments later, the shuttle disappeared completely. Skywalker turned back to face the troops and grinned. ''Alright, who's ready for them to leave!? Huh? Cause they! Are! Gone!''
At once, all the troopers cheered.
''Master, that's terrible!'' Ahsoka scolded, disbelief splayed out on her face.
''I know, Snips, I know. But both of those dear gentlemen have already made sure to leave us all in good and capable hands so nothing should go wrong, right?''
Ahsoka just shook her head. Having been on the wrong end of the captain's lectures just a few too many times, she knew Rex would probably have a fit when he heard this...
Sooo, pure curiosity, how has my writing been? Good, bad? liking the stories or are they a drag to read?
