Hello, everyone. My name is DocRider and welcome to Chapter 2 of "My Rainy Day Turns into a Waterfall".
And yes, I'll be starting every chapter's author note with that. It's kinda my intro for my videos and their descriptions so yay for consistency.
So I made a note in the last chapter about the language swaps between English and Japanese. Those were minor swaps, but in this chapter, there will be a major swap from English to Japanese, for obvious reasons as you read this chapter.
Another thing: There will be manga spoilers for those who haven't caught up on the manga or for those who only watched the anime and are stuck waiting for season 5 to start.
Now for reviews:
Argo Devilian: Apologies for the misunderstanding. Yes, the prologue and chapter 1 as well as a good chunk of this chapter take place in Ottawa, Canada's capital. Yes, maple syrup is the holy grail, but don't forget, Tim Hortons is also the promised land. As I said in the last chapter's A/N, her father is an ambassador between Canada and Japan, so it stands to reason that she would have dual citizenship. In terms of the quirk, there will be more explanation on some of its capabilities in this chapter, so don't worry about that. In terms of the Trans thing, the part about me being a closet trans is true or at least partially true, since gender-fluidity is also an option for me. And since this is a SI story, it fit all the nicer. I know you didn't mean any harm, but going forwards, when I refer to "the previous life", I am referring to my own life and experiences.
Creator of the multiverse: I don't know who you mean by 'him', but there are no 'two of them.' Their souls merged. Also yes, this story will go on.
As always, I don't own the world I am using, so a disclaimer is here! My Hero Academia and its characters are all owned by Shueisha, Viz Media, Shonen Jump, Studio Bones, Funimation, and, most important of all, Kohei Horikoshi. All other characters in this story are created by me.
And a first for this story: trigger warnings. This story contains trans hate. If you read the last chapter or the above review response, you will already know that I am a closet trans or at least genderfluid. Trust me, I hurt myself writing that part.
Enough from me, time to get on with the story!

My Rainy Day Turns into a Waterfall
Chapter 2: Schools, Moving and Secrets
School wasn't all bad.
In fact, in the beginning it was rather easy to effectively re-learn everything, using the knowledge from my previous life. I even loved the nostalgia of it all.
But the best part came from the social aspect. I remembered that I had mental disabilities in my previous life which also affected my social life. After merging with Michiyo, I realized that those blockades were gone. It also helped that both my old personality and Michiyo's meshed together perfectly, leaving a very friendly and outgoing person. It felt like my old personality doubled Michiyo's friendliness.
Throughout junior and senior kindergarten, I was always helping people out: making sure they got their writing right, helping them pick up toys and making sure they were put in the right spot, picking others up when they fell, and so on. They started calling me a hero, and that made me smile.
I excelled in academics throughout grade school, but my main goal was to be a generally good person and make some friends. Friends that I knew would come to the aid of others when needed, like I did.
At home, Dad was intrigued by me. More specifically, by the slight change in my interests. Sure, I was still playing with dolls, but as I grew up I started asking for video games and books.
Video games were a big part of my previous life; no reincarnation was ever gonna take that away from me. I cried tears of joy knowing that a company like Nintendo survived the Quirk Boom and still thrived to this day. I even asked Dad for some of Nintendo's pre-quirk consoles, like the Switch and the N64. I'd never had a Switch of my own before I died, so I was happy when I finally received one.
Books were another big thing in my previous life, especially Young Adult series like Percy Jackson or The Mortal Instruments. It actually took Dad a long time to find good, quality used copies of some of those series. Soon enough, there was a new bookshelf in my room with all the favourites from my previous life.
I also got my hands on a lot of manga, both in English and in Japanese. So many, in fact, that Dad had to get a second bookshelf just for my manga. Fun fact: Other than MHA, a lot of the other Shonen Jump staples existed in this world, like Dragon Ball, Naruto, and One Piece. They were overshadowed by all the modern manga themed around heroes like All Might and Endeavour, but even in this day and age they were considered classics. I was really excited that I could pick up all the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, even if it was slightly different from the anime. Again, it took Dad a long time to find copies of these manga that were still in good condition.
(SPOILER START)
One day after school, I asked Dad if I could have some notebooks for Hero and Quirk analysis. An hour later, we walked into the house with at least ten 120-page notebooks and more writing materials.
As I sat down at my desk with the notebooks, I started to think about how I was going to encode them. Especially since they were not going to be for Hero analysis, but rather for the knowledge of the MHA story that I remembered from my previous life.
'Let's see… The last English volume I had before I died was Volume 28. That means that I was around chapter 275. If I recall, that was the middle of the Paranormal Liberation Arc.'
As I sat back in my chair, I remembered a Discord conversation that I had read months before I died.
'Wait, I remember Midnight died at the end of that Arc, but what chapter? It was somewhere around 295, if I'm right.'
I placed that thought aside for a second as I started using a scrap of paper to write out a code.
'Now, how to code these notebooks to be parent-proof? I know, I could use reverse alphabetical number code and then scramble them up as well as placing the number of letters at the beginning of each word.'
After I had my code down, I painstakingly started writing down everything I remembered about the story of MHA while leaving out the stuff that had already happened. From the sludge villain incident to the attack on the USJ, from the U.A. Sports Festival to the Final Exams, from the Forest Training Camp to the Kamino Ward incident, I wrote it all down as best I could.
I decided to separate the knowledge into their respective anime seasons. Once I reached season five, I started with the Joint Training Exercise Arc and went until the end of the fight between the League of Villains and the Meta Liberation Army. The next notebook housed the stuff with the Endeavor Agency and the Paranormal Liberation War. I even had a notebook for each of the MHA movies. At the bottom of the last page in the 'season six' notebook, I wrote in big capital letters, "MIDNIGHT WILL NOT DIE!" before erasing it thoroughly and writing it again in code.
(SPOILER END)
After my quirk manifested, I spent every free hour practicing with it and its capabilities. Once grade one started, I asked Daddy if I could take karate lessons so that I could start getting stronger to prepare for hero school.
"Sure, pumpkin," he said. "Anything for my little hero."
And so, Daddy signed me up at the nearest dojo to learn karate. I had taken karate as a child in my previous life, but again, with the mental disabilities, it had been difficult to learn. As Michiyo, however, the teachings came easier and I was able to learn a lot quicker. In fact, the sensei was impressed at how I excelled. It helped that some of my knowledge of stances came from anime like Dragon Ball. I always found Goku's starting stance whenever he would fight comforting and fitting. As Michiyo, that stance fit even more. Sensei was a little confused by my choice, but after building it into my fighting style, he noticed the movements were easier for me, as well as allowing me to use my quirk effectively.
And use my quirk effectively I did. I learned a lot about my quirk in those seven years, specifically that I could use water constructs to attack and defend from attacks by changing the shape and density of the water. I also found out that I could either use the water from the hydro-bladder, as I had taken to calling it, in my body or from outside sources. However, once the water from the organ was expended and if there was no other major water source in sight, my quirk would start to use the water from the rest of my body, leaving me dehydrated. I could absorb the dirtiest of water as well. The downside to that was that my body needed time to purify the water, making me slower as a result.
Movement-wise, I found that by keeping the apertures on my hands and feet open narrowly and sending water through at a high pressure, I could essentially move like Bakugo did with his explosions. Although again, I was limited by the amount of water I could store in my organ.
That didn't mean that the organ held the same amount of water as I grew up. When the quirk originally manifested, Daddy and I found that I could hold at least two litres of water. Once I reached grade five, I found that I could hold at least three and a half litres in the organ.
Living in Canada, they had a very different system in place for governing heroes. Instead of the Hero Public Safety Commission, we had the North American Hero Association or NAHA. It worked similar to the HPSC, but it allowed minors with powerful quirks to become junior heroes.
As soon as I was old enough, Dad took me to the Ottawa branch of the NAHA and got me set up with a junior hero license, provided I could show I could use my quirk responsibly.
After going through some of the preliminary paperwork, I was led to a backroom with targets and dummies. I looked a lot like the training room from Overwatch, with robots in various places to simulate movement and distance. The robots looked somewhat similar to those from Overwatch, too.
First, I was led to an area where some bots were getting attacked by other bots. Once the instructor and Dad were out of the way, I rushed to protect the bot getting attacked as I turned my water into a tower shield. After that, the instructor led me and Dad over to an area that resembled a collapsed building.
I was asked to search for civilians trapped in the rubble and to collect them and take them to the safe area, if possible. It was easy to find some civilians that were only partially covered by rubble, and my water made quick work of any and all rubble, whether it was through lifting rubble with hands made of water or by destroying the rocks with water swords.
After I showed the testing instructor the versatility of my quirk, I was asked about my hero name. I had given it a lot of thought. Heck, I even asked some friends on Chaos (the spiritual successor to Discord) and one of them came up with the name "Waveform."
After I told the lady my Hero name, I was handed a card with my photo, a generic mask to hide my identity, my quirk name, and my hero name: The Water Hero: Waveform.
I couldn't use my quirk unless given permission or in self-defense, but at least I was recognized as a Junior Hero.
Throughout fourth and fifth grade, I was thinking on how to be able to go to U.A. at the same time as Izuku and Bakugo. After a while, the only plan that came to mind was to move to Japan to live with Mom and experience Japanese Middle School. Mom had visited Canada when she was younger and met Dad. It was love at first sight, apparently. She stayed with him in Canada until two years after I was born. After that, she returned to Japan to help her side of the family, since it was big and not a lot of that side wanted to immigrate to Canada.
The plan was to move to Japan after fifth grade and then use the months between then and the start of what was essentially the start of my first middle school year to be homeschooled the grade six material, as well as catching up on my Japanese. Sure, it meant I was going to miss out on summer vacation, but if it meant that I could start middle school at the same time as Izuku and Bakugo, so be it.
Daddy was a little worried that I was going to have a hard time learning the sixth grade material before starting middle school in April, but I told him that it was going to be my way of catching up so that I was ready. The other reason was so that I could attend U.A. in a few years.
Mom was ecstatic about the idea, albeit a little hesitant about me wasting my summer vacation on school, but she agreed it was for the best, since it was only three months of a difference between the end of the NA school year and the start of the Japanese school year. Three months that I could take from summer vacation.
And so, almost all of my things (I still needed some clothes, as well as my computer and one of my Nintendo consoles) were packed in boxes and sent to Japan almost a month in advance.
My last day of school was a rough one. I knew that I could come home whenever I wanted to, but until I knew that All for One and Tomura were taken care of, it would only be to visit, and even then, it wouldn't be for long.
A lot of people were crying that day, myself included. I had made a lot of new friends and it was sad to leave them. In my soul, it felt ten times worse because I was remembering all the friends I had left behind when I died. It was funny, though; a few years after my reincarnation, I did some research into the pre-Quirk era to see if I had a doppelganger here in this universe. And I was surprised to find out that I did. Turns out that his descendant was one of the classmates I was leaving behind. Talk about a small world.
The next day was hectic. I had prepared my stuff the night before, but my flight to Tokyo was set to leave at noon that day. I arrived at the airport at nine AM EDT. If I did my math right, I should be arriving in Tokyo at midnight JST.
'Great… a twelve-hour flight. Well, thank the gods I have my phone and computer,' I thought as I waited for my flight. 'And thank god for the Switch. I don't care if it's archaic in this era; it's so versatile for this scenario.'
Three hours later, my flight was called and I was on my way. Next stop: Japan.
(A/N: At this point, the language will be Japanese. There might be some English peppered in here and there. But at this point, the language has swapped.)
Unfortunately, Mom was not there to greet me. However, a blond, skeletal man stood smiling with a sign with my last name on it in Japanese. I knew who it was at once.
I rushed over and gave him a hug, whispering in his ear, "Hello, Uncle Might."
I could feel him flinch at that greeting, but then he calmed. When I pulled away, I saw that there was a confused look on his face.
"Chiyo, how did you know it was me?" he asked, still shocked that I knew who it was.
"Your smile never changes," I replied, smiling myself.
The shocked look on his face was replaced by his trademark smile, although it looked a lot more forced than usual. He gestured for me to follow him, guiding me outside the departure doors and towards a little white kei truck. After he plopped my luggage into the back, we hopped in.
My smile morphed into a frown at that point. "Uncle Might, what happened?" I questioned, already knowing the answer.
He sighed as we drove to my mother's house in Musutafu. "Just a villain injury. Nothing for you to worry about."
"Hmm," I hummed before I came to the conclusion that maybe I should trust my pseudo-uncle with my secret, since he had one of his own. "Was it him?"
He immediately pulled over to the side of the road and stopped before grabbing my shoulders and asked, "How do you know that? I have never told your father or your mother that information." There was a bit of panic in his voice.
"Calm down, Uncle Might. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. But I know because I have a secret of my own. One that I've only told one other person until now."
He let go of my shoulders and cocked his head, panic turning into confusion on his face once more. "Oh, and what secret is that?"
"First, you remember my fourth birthday, how I almost drowned?"
"Yes. Your mother called me that night to tell me. Had I been there, I would have jumped in to save you myself."
"Well, turns out the nightmares I was having the nights prior were real, because when I fell into the water, I started remembering that man's death and his day prior and his life, all like they were my own."
He sat there for a second, stunned. I started panicking, thinking it was gonna go horrible like last time.
(Flashback Start; Dialogue is in English)
It was about a week before the move to Japan. I had decided when all my stuff was sent off before me that I would take the last weekend before the flight and spend some time with my friends.
Saturday was a group day, as I had all my friends around me as we walked through the various stores of the Rideau Centre, knowing that this will be the last time I walk these corridors for a while.
Sunday, though, was a day that I was spending with my best friend, Tori Justice. She and I had been thick as thieves during our school years, even before that. She was at the pool that day when I reincarnated.
We had decided to take a walk alongside the Rideau Canal and down the trails that hug the water behind Parliament Hill. After stopping at a bench to catch our breath, I decided to tell her my secret.
Before I could begin though, she started talking.
"So why are you really leaving for Japan? There's got to be more than just wanting to live with your Mom, or else you would wait until after hero school."
I sighed. I forgot that she was curious about everything.
"I'll tell you why, but first, I need to set something straight. I haven't been completely honest about my pasts."
It took her a few seconds to connect the dots on what I said, but the look afterward, a look of confusion, told me that she caught on.
"Wait, you said 'pasts' as in plural. Are you saying that you had a past life?" she asked, perplexed at what I said.
"Yes," I cried, ecstatic that the first person I told believed me, "that's exactly what I'm saying."
"Did you have a reincarnation quirk in your past life?" she questioned, curiosity growing on her face.
It was my turn to look confused. "What do you mean? No, I didn't. In fact, I don't even think I was from this world. And it wasn't a full reincarnation, either. It was like two souls merging."
"Now that I don't believe. Other worlds, that stuff is only in manga. And someone's soul merging with your own. Yeah, right. Now if you regained the memories of someone from the pre-quirk era, I could understand that."
"Ok, what if I was to say that if it was from the pre-quirk era, would you believe that all this stuff about quirks and heroes would be fiction?" I countered.
"Michiyo, aren't you getting a little philosophical about this? I really don't think that you are reincarnated. Sure, ever since that day, your personality has changed a little, but that's not enough to support the merging of your soul with one from the pre-quirk era."
"Then how do you explain the nightmares that I told you about prior to that day?" Our voices were rising in volume by this point. We weren't shouting yet, but it was starting to get there.
"Just that, nightmares. Honestly, do you not trust me to tell me why you are really going?"
"I do trust you. Hence why I'm tell—"
"No, all you told me was some story about being reincarnated. Why are you going to Japan?"
At that point, I snapped. "So that I can change the story about a thirteen-year-old quirkless boy getting All Might's quirk and becoming a Pillar of Hope against villains. Although, at this point, he's our age."
After a few seconds passed, she stood up and gave me a look of disgust.
"Wow, that is the stupidest thing I had ever heard. You are standing up for the quirkless, the weaklings that they are. What's next, huh? You gonna tell me next that you were a quirkless boy in your last life? You know what? Don't answer that. I'd rather not know if you had the soul of a boy in that body." After a minute of confirming silence, the look of disgust had turned ice cold and any friendship with her had gone out the window.
"Oh my god, you're kidding me. Well, I'm a fucking idiot, being friends with a fake girl. Cause that's all you are, a boy in a girl's body. Fucking tranny!"
My breath had left my body at that point. I was too numb to continue the conversation.
After a few minutes, she started walking away, but not before leaving some parting words.
"I'll keep your tranny secret, but never talk to me again, or this secret will be shouted out for all to hear. Enjoy your trip, tranny!"
(Flashback End)
My breathing became erratic as Uncle Might continued to keep quiet. I started hyperventilating, until I felt hands drop down onto my shoulders.
"Michiyo, snap out of it," I heard Uncle Might yell.
"U-u-uncle M-m-might?" I stuttered, afraid of what he was gonna say next. But what he did say surprised me.
"So how do you know about All for One and our battle? I never told either of your parents. Heck, I never even told my good friend David." he asked, a concerned look plastered on his face.
"Well, in my past life, this world of heroes and quirks were all part of a manga series, with you being one of the main characters." I broke into tears after that as I slid around the seat to Uncle Might's shoulder and sobbed into it. Knowing what had happened to him and the pain of that old memory sapped my will to continue with the serious conversation.
Uncle Might restarted the car and continued driving to Mommy's house. "We'll have this conversation in private tomorrow after you get some rest."
I sniffled as I slid back to my seat and put the seat belt back on. There was silence the whole way to Mom's house.
The next day, Uncle Might or Uncle Toshi as he wanted to be called in public and I were walking towards Takoba Beach. I knew it would be a dump and would stay that way until Uncle Toshi trained Izuku to handle One for All.
After we found a bench to sit on, Uncle Toshi turned to me, his sunken blue eyes containing a piercing gaze.
"Now Michiyo, how much of my life do you know about from your previous life?"
I sighed before I answered. "I know that your master, Nana Shimura, gave you One for All during her fight with that bastard and that you were trained to use it by her friend and your old homeroom teacher, Gran Torino. After that, you went to America and started your pro career there, gaining a sidekick in engineering genius David Shield. Soon after, you returned to Japan to hunt All for One with your new sidekick, Sir Nighteye. When you finally found All for One, you beat him into the ground, but not before taking those injuries. That last one was two years ago."
"Hmm." All Might rested his hands on his chin as he contemplated those words. "That was really vague. I take it the story isn't about me?"
"No, it's not. And I'm not telling you anymore than that. The more you know, the higher chance that future events could be thrown into disarray."
He nodded. "Good idea. Although if I do find a successor, should I run it through you first?"
I nodded at that. "Please."
I hugged him after that and said, "Thank you."
The look of confusion was back. "For what?"
"For believing me. I had told someone before I left my secret and they didn't believe me, calling me a liar. I think she was a transphobe as well."
"Why do you say that?"
"Um… I was a guy in my previous life. A guy who was a closet trans. The day after reincarnation, I took stock of what happened. When I realized that I was a girl in this life, I was elated."
"Huh." He shook his head. "Well, all that matters now is that you are Michiyo. You are still Michiyo, right?"
I giggled. "I think the soul from my previous life merged with Michiyo's original soul, so yes. I am Michiyo Shimizu. And I accept that."
"Good," he concluded as he hugged me once again. "Now, I think it's time you got home and set everything up for your schooling for the summer."
The next nine months of my life were torture. I got a few days off in the beginning to set up my room how I liked and to get to know the area. I also got an opportunity to check out the middle school that I would be entering come April. In those few days, the surrealism just kicked in.
'I'm seeing these places and people in three dimensions instead of in manga panels or animation. Like Uncle Toshi. You don't see the muscle definition in his emaciated form on the page or screen, but here, it can be felt. The sounds and smells of the dump at Takoba Beach is something that you can only experience in the world. And now I'm a part of it.'
But, after all that, the homeschooling set in. Fortunately, I was only doing school work Monday to Friday, like a normal school week, leaving my weekends free for quirk or physical training, but it also left me time to meet new friends.
One Saturday after a few weeks of schooling, Mom asked some of her lady friends to come over. At first, I thought they would be throwaway characters that didn't matter ('Man, I'm starting to sound like Bakugo'), but as it turned out, Mom was friends with Inko Midoriya and Mitsuki Bakugo.
'Well… isn't that a coincidence.'
The manga and anime designs didn't do them justice. Mrs. Bakugo was practically glowing thanks to her Glycerin quirk (and her attitude was spot on), and Ms. Midoriya looked and acted like the motherly matron at a bakery.
I knew as soon as they walked in that I was going to be meeting the green-haired cinnamon bun and the angry, ash-blond Pomeranian rather soon.
"Hey, Misuzu!" Mrs. Bakugo was loud, kind of like her son was in the anime.
"Hello, Mitsuki, Inko." Mom was polite, like she also knew how Mrs. Bakugo was.
"Good morning, Misuzu." Ms. Midoriya was kind. Again, it was surreal hearing their voices from the anime and then hearing them in real life. They sounded almost identical to their Japanese voice actors. It made me wonder what would've happened if the reincarnation had made it so that I could hear the Japanese language as its English counterpart. Would it have sounded the same as their English voice actors? I didn't have much time to dwell on it since Mom chose that moment to introduce me.
"Girls, this is my daughter, Michiyo." She gestured at Ms. Midoriya and Mrs. Bakugo. "Michiyo, these are my friends, Inko Midoriya and Mitsuki Bakugo."
I bowed in greeting. "It's a pleasure to meet you both."
Mrs. Bakugo whistled. "Wow, your Japanese is almost perfect. You sure you were born in Canada?"
I switched to English to spite her. "Would you prefer me to use English while I was living here?"
Both of the two women had a look of surprise on their faces at my words. Mom had to translate so that they could hear the question.
"Damn, you are good. Gonna give your English teachers a run for their money, that's for sure," Mrs. Bakugo said, grinning maniacally. I knew I'd be seeing a lot of that face on her son in the coming months and years.
"Yes, it was rather good. Maybe you could give Katsuki and Izuku some practice and help before middle school starts." Ms. Midoriya also smiled, but this was a kinder, brighter smile, although again, I knew I was gonna see that smile a lot in the coming years.
"I would be glad to, but I also need to do my North American sixth grade schooling first. I only just finished fifth grade a few weeks ago."
"You're giving up your summer so you can be with the rest of your age group? Good on you, kid." Mrs. Bakugo's grin widened.
"Yeah… Anyways, Mom, I need to go out and find a dojo to train from."
"Oh, are you planning on becoming a hero, too, Michiyo?" Ms. Midoriya asked.
I nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I'm already a junior hero with the North American Hero Association, but I want to be a Pro Hero."
"Then you would get along great with the boys. Izuku loves heroes and quirks, and Katsuki is determined to be the number one Hero." Mrs. Bakugo cackled.
'Yeah, I already knew that. Thank you for telling me though.'
"Maybe once I find a dojo to train at, the three of us can all train there," I said, noticing Ms. Midoriya's face wrinkled in worry as I spoke. I knew that Izuku was quirkless, and that Uncle Toshi would train him to handle One for All, but by shifting canon a little bit, maybe Izuku could get One for All sooner and have more time to train with it before the U.A. Entrance Exam?
"Anyways," I bowed again. "It was nice meeting you, Ms. Midoriya, Mrs. Bakugo. Maybe tomorrow, you could bring them around so I can meet them." I then left and started exploring, trying to find a decent dojo that also catered to the quirkless.
When it came to the quirkless in the world, a lot of countries treated it like a minority, like Japan. In Canada, however, I found that quirkless people were treated equally to people with quirks. They could try for hero school, they could get a job mostly anywhere (there were still people who treated quirkless people like trash), and they weren't looked down on. Every so often, I wished I could just take Izuku back to Canada, just so that he could be a hero there. But alas, that would royally screw canon and honestly. The butterfly effect of problems would just skyrocket.
After a few hours of searching and asking around, I finally found one that didn't care about if you had a quirk or not. It was small, but it was nicer than a lot of the other dojos I had looked at that day, and the sensei was quirkless himself.
'Perfect, time for the first change in canon.'
The next day, Aunt Inko and Aunt Tsuki (they insisted I call them that, said it made them feel old the other way) brought Izuku and Katsuki over.
First was Aunt Tsuki and Katsuki. I could tell they were here thanks to their screaming contest outside.
"I DON'T CARE ABOUT SOME FOREIGNER, EVEN ONE WHO IS PART JAPANESE, YOU OLD HAG! IT'S NOT LIKE SHE'LL BE GOING TO U.A.! PROBABLY HAS A LAME-ASS QUIRK, TOO!" At that last comment, I immediately changed into my training gear, walked out to the backyard and prepped it for combat. Once everything was put away so explosions and water weapons couldn't break anything, I returned inside to see Mitsuki tugging on the ear of the ash-blond angry Pomeranian himself.
Again, surrealism is back. But I quashed it down and shouted at him.
"Hey, Baka-go! I heard that you like to fight. How about you put your money where your mouth is? You and me, one on one."
"You're on, Feisty Eyes." He grinned maniacally.
'Wow, not even twenty-four hours and that grin shows up. I must've really gotten to him.'
Aunt Tsuki bonked Baka-go on the back of the head. "Don't go over the top, or anything you break is coming out of your wallet, brat."
"Yeah, yeah. Lead the way, Feisty Eyes."
I led him to the crude combat circle in the ground in the backyard.
"OK, quirks are allowed, but like your mom said, don't go overboard. First to go out-of-bounds loses" I said as he walked to the other side of the combat circle. I turned to Mom, who had followed us outside with Aunt Tsuki. "Mom, can you be our referee?"
"Of course, sweetie."
I walked to my side of the circle and prepared myself in my usual Goku stance. Bakugo looked at me for a second before charging at me, surprisingly not using his explosions to propel himself forward.
As he got closer, I waited, knowing he was going to start with a right hook like he does in canon.
When he threw the right hook, I blocked with my left hand, using my right to punch him in the side. I then took my left hand with his right fist still gripped and twirled him around before using my right hand again to punch his other side. Then, I pushed Bakugo towards the edge of the circle using my left hand.
He stumbled towards the edge of the circle, tumbling to the ground just before the edge. He pushed himself up and grinned, small explosions cracking across his hands.
"Oh, now you've done it, Feisty Eyes." He blasted forward using his quirk. "DIE!"
I twirled to the side as he flew past, heading for the other edge of the circle, before quickly stopping himself with some explosions in front of him.
"Come on, Baka-go. Is that all you got? I haven't even used my quirk yet." I opened the apertures on my hands and took the water from my hydro-bladder and made it into a staff. "There. How about that?"
He turned and saw the staff made of water in my hands. "So you know how to use water to make items. What's next, you're gonna tell me you can shoot me with water bullets next?"
'Make water bullets? That's it! I could use the high pressure to make water bullets from my hands.'
I cackled. "That's a good idea, Baka-go. Thanks for the idea! I'll have to practice that sometime."
He frowned. "Not like you'll be able to use it here, Sprinkler System!"
'Sprinkler System, huh? That's a new one. Better than Feisty Eyes, that's for sure.'
He charged at me again, hoping to catch me off guard. Unfortunately, he did. I was able to get my staff up to block, but I was not able to block his explosion to my side. I took a step back to recover, and he continued charging, taking advantage of my stumble.
However, I had prepared for this by turning the water from a staff shape to a shield shape, increasing its density and weight a little bit. I had practiced with this particular type of shield before the move, so I was familiar with its weight.
As the explosion came towards me, I thrust the shield out, hoping to shield bash him. And shield bash I did. It took him by surprise and he ended up bashing his face against it. I had lowered the density of the shield a little to provide a little padding, but he still ended up breaking his nose against my shield. He stumbled back past the edge of the circle, clutching his nose.
Mom threw her hand up. "Michiyo wins!"
After that, we both rushed over to Bakugo to see if he was okay. Instead of breaking his nose like I thought I did, I only ended up causing a nosebleed, which was fixable.
I started to hear clapping coming from the door into the house. As I turned, I saw Inko with Izuku, who had pulled out his notebook from… somewhere, and started writing in it. I smiled as I walked over.
As I got closer, I could hear mumbling coming from Izuku. I poked the green cinnamon bun in the head.
"Hello, anyone in there?"
That snapped him out of his mumbling.
"Oh, hello there. My name is Izuku Midoriya. What is the name of your quirk?" I knew that he would ask me questions about my quirk, so I left a bunch of papers with stats about my quirk out in the hallway for this exact reason.
"Hello to you, too. My name is Michiyo, and my quirk is Hydrokinesis, and everything I know about it is right here." I handed him the sheets. He took them and immediately rushed inside, probably looking for a table to copy my notes into his notebook.
Behind me, I heard Bakugo mutter, "Damn quirkless Deku."
I immediately turned around and punched him in the gut. "Never call Izu—, uh, Midoriya quirkless again. Or I will break your nose the next time."
He smirked. "It's the truth, right? He's quirkless and won't amount to anything. A useless De—"
Bakugo finally realized that he had said that in front of his mother, my mother, and Izuku's mother. I could feel the killing intent rolling off of the three women behind me.
"What was that, brat? Did you just call your friend 'useless'?" His mother walked over and grabbed his ear.
I turned to Inko, whose anger was seeping away into sadness before my eyes. "Deku will always mean 'You can do it!' in my eyes. Deku will be the name of a hero."
Inko turned to me and said, "Thank you, Michiyo."
I guided Inko inside as I listened to my mom and Mitsuki give Bakugo the biggest talking-down I have ever heard in my life. Trust me, the words were not worth repeating.
When we found Izuku, he was in the living room, muttering and copying my notes about my quirk. He turned to me when he saw us come in.
"I got a question for you." There were stars in his eyes.
"Go for it." I smiled.
"I read that there is a junior hero in the NAHA with your same powers. Are you Waveform?"
My smile grew as I reached into my wallet and pulled out my NAHA ID card and showed it to him. "Yep, sure am."
"Awesome!" His smile grew for a second before it shifted into a look of confusion. "Then why are you here? Why not go to school in Canada?"
"Because I wanted to go to U.A. After all, it was All Might's school, right? Mom's told me that she'll teach me the grade six material before the start of middle school in April."
"So you'll be starting with Kacchan and I in April. We'll be going to middle school together." The stars in his eyes were back and brighter than before.
"Yep. And let's all go to U.A. together as well." At that statement, I saw both Inko's and Izuku's faces falter a second, before they returned to their smiles, albeit forced this time around.
"Y-yeah. Together!"
"Although…" I gave him a look up and down. Even at eleven years old, he still was a twig. 'Probably still has self-confidence issues, due to being quirkless.' "We'll need to get some muscles on you if you're gonna take the U.A. Entrance Exam quirkless.
"Luckily," I brought them in close as I spoke in a whisper, "I found a dojo that doesn't care if you have a quirk or not. It's small and the price is reasonable enough that Mom and I can pay for you, me, and Baka-go, provided he hasn't been banned from training."
Izuku gave me a worried look at that. "Why would he be banned from training? All he wants is to be the number one hero."
"Yeah, but he doesn't have to put you down to do it. Mom and Aunt Tsuki are giving him a stern talking-to about bullying."
I put my hands on his shoulders and told him sternly, "Even without a quirk, Deku, you can become a hero! After all, Deku means 'You can do it!' in this house and to me, that sounds like the name of a hero."
Deku's worried look shattered, leaving behind a look of pure determination.
"OK, let's get this training started!"
I said this before, but next two and a half years were torture. But it was bearable torture.
Katsuki's attitude towards Deku lightened up considerably after that day, and once we got started at the dojo and he started to see Deku make the effort to chase his dream, even at a disadvantage, he started to respect him. He still called Izuku Deku, but he knew the real meaning behind the nickname and started using it in that regard.
Starting middle school in April was really weird to me, being Canadian in both my lives, not to mention all of the differences between school in North America and Japan. For starters, the uniform took some getting used to in the sense that I had never had a uniform in Canadian school (in either of my lives), but it fit nice.
I started taking both Deku's and Katsuki's advice on how to better my quirk. As such, I learned how to use a multitude of weapons as well as practiced shooting water bullets from my hands. My accuracy needed work, but I'm sure U.A. will help with that.
Deku took to the training like a fish to water. Going into our third and final year of middle school, the three of us had gained some muscle, the boys more than me, but hey, I filled out in other ways. More importantly, his self-confidence gained a boost. Sure, it's not at the level it was during the Yakuza Hideout Raid Arc, but at least he has more confidence when he meets Uncle Toshi.
And yes, puberty had set in. As a guy, I never had to worry about bras or periods or any of the girly stuff. But ever since I got here, it's been a learning experience. By the time we started year three of middle school, my butt had grown and my breasts had reached a C-cup. My mind had a meltdown after measuring that.
'Oh gods, please tell me that the grape bastard isn't in my class. Or if he is, that he gets expelled during the Quirk Apprehension test. If not, please let Deku and Katsuki protect me!'
But first came our third year of middle school, and the canon of My Hero Academia.
And that's chapter 2.
Woo, that was more than the prologue AND chapter 1 combined. Pacing is definitely messed up. But hey, starting canon now. A cookie to those of you who get the reference in the flashback.
Big shout out to MelodyMilan and her story "To Inspire the Hero in You and Me" on FFN for the NAHA. I borrowed the name and made it different from her rendition. Hopefully, I won't get in trouble for using it. Go check out the story for yourself. It's really similar to this one, and I highly recommend it.
Thanks go to Evil and Jurodan for editing this episode partially. They couldn't finish with their edits, due to personal reasons. Massive thanks go out to Raef Darksbane for taking over as interim head editor for the story while Evil is getting things in his life sorted out.
Next chapter: Canon MHA story begins, Izuku's training with All Might begins, and Michiyo saves both a little girl with a horn on her head and a crazy girl with a blood quirk.
Thank you so much to anyone reading this, and I will see you all when the next chapter is ready.
