Chapter Nine: The New Hero of National City.

Several Months Later

As Kara flew towards L-Corp, a smile graced her lips at the case she held in her hand. Slowly she swooped onto the balcony and watched Lena type away at the keyboard, employing the superspeed she now could not live without, she looks up at hearing Kara land and she walks to the balcony door, opening it and bracing herself as her girlfriend throws herself at her.

"Hey Kara." Lena chuckled slightly as she peeled the blonde off of her, Kara smiled silently as she held out the box, Lena took it and opened it slowly, putting it down and holding her hands to her mouth at what was contained inside - a suit, not to dissimilar to Kara's, with the same House of El symbol on it. Lena looked at Kara with tears in her eyes.

"F- For me?"

"Yes Lena, for you.' Now it was Kara's turn to brace for a hug as Lena threw herself at Kara, kissing her and hugging her so tight she thought she might burst. Eventually Lena pulled away and released Kara so that the woman could move. The pair moved to sit on the couch and Lena embraces Kara.

"Thank you so much babe." Kara smiled softly as Lena moved around to her desk to continue her work.

"C- Could we go get lunch?" Kara asked but Lena shook her head.

"Sorry Kara... work is picking up a lot." Kara nodded, slightly deflated but still happy.

"I'll take this and drop it off at your place." Lena nodded and moved to kiss Kara once more before Kara took off and Lena let out a dejected sigh of relief, she rubbed her eyes, her makeup doing a relatively decent job of hiding the fact she hadn't slept in 2 days. She walks slowly and shakily towards the drinks cabinet, she opens it and grabs a bottle of bourbon, opening it and pouring herself a glass, moving with the glass and bottle to sit at her desk, returning to writing emails even though the brightness of the screen made her eyes hurt and ache, the drink passing sorely through her dry, unfed throat as it sloshes in an empty stomach. She feels her eyes lulling with heaviness but shakes it off and continues to write business emails, even though she can feel her headache worsening. After another 5 hours and a phone call from Kara delaying dinner plans, she eventually found the energy to move to the couch to read the paper when she finally collapsed, lying still on the floor of L-Corp.

As Kara lands at Lena's apartment, she decides to look around, quickly realising that Lena hadn't been there for several days, Kara rubs her temples and looks around the rest of the house finding some bottles of alcohol and, in the bin, some torn up letters.

"Lena... fuck." She turned to fly to out when her phone rang, the name Jess showed up and Kara answered.

"Hello."

"M- Miss Danvers... please... come to L-Corp quick. Miss Luthor..." Jess sobs softly down the phone.

"Okay Jess, I'm on my way." Kara ran out of Lena's place and took off from the balcony, she was flying towards L-Corp, listening out for Lena's heartbeat. Suddenly she was snared by something and dragged to the ground. After impacting, she stands up and turns to face the aggressor...

"Alex?" What Kara saw was Alex stood over her with the kryptonite sword she used to kill Astra, Kara's aunt. Alex frowned at Kara cruelly before sliding the blade against her cheek, leaving a cut before stepping back and ordering some DEO agents to pull people out of a truck - the people dragged out were wearing sacks over their head, their hoods are immediately removed, revealing J'onn and Lena, her face implanted with small shards of kryptonite. Kara screamed with anger towards Alex, rolling and crawling towards the group but freezing as Alex put the sword against Lena's back.

"Don't... please..." Alex laughed and drove the sword through Lena's chest, Kara screaming as she does the same to J'onn. Full of rage, Kara took off the ground and tackled Alex like a missile, smashing her through a car.

"HOW! HOW COULD YOU!" Kara screamed at her sister as she beat her to death, Alex goading her on, suddenly a snap was heard and Alex collapsed, her neck and head snapped to the side...

Alex walked into the office of Lena Luthor and immediately got to work, sorting Lena out whilst consoling Jess that Lena will be fine, after several minutes, the woman awoke, rubbing her eyes.

"A- Alex?" Lena blinked and shook her head, the hangover rushing back for a time before she pushed it down.

"Miss Luthor, Miss Danvers... I asked Kara to come but... she hasn't arrived..." Lena looked worriedly at Alex before standing up.

"She's at my place." She turned to face Jess. "Jess, take the day off, you need it." She handed Jess a 100 dollar bill before running out.

"She's in my apartment... what could've happened to her?" Lena mused before rubbing her temples.

"We need to prepare for every possibility, we're heading to the DEO." Alex pulled up at the new building, driving into the garage and getting out, running to the storage to grab a pair of gas masks and a lead-lined box. She moved back to the car and, handing Lena the gas masks, she put the lead-lined box into the back seat and hopped into the driver seat.

"Lets go." The pair pulled out of the lot, Lena holding the gas masks and trying to control her breathing. Alex sighed softly before whispering.

"We're coming Kara."

As the pair walked into Lena's apartment, gas mask on face and box in hand, they spot Kara laying on the floor, convulsing slightly. Lena ran over and shook Kara.

"She's not waking up." The pair proceed to look around for the source, eventually finding a large box, inside a machine that is ejecting tiny green crystals and a gas that the pair can't recognise, Lena pulls it out and powers it down, stepping behind a lead barrier as Alex pulled out a small laser miner with a large chunk of Green Kryptonite. Alex then pulled out another miner and a mineral to gas converter - converting silver kryptonite into a liquid then a gas and mixing with an anaesthetic agent, the pair being emitted from the ejection device.

"This is what caused Kara to pass out... It must've gotten here after you left but before her evening visit..." Lena sighed, looking over at Kara, currently lying on the bed, sleeping restlessly.

Kara ran to Lena's still corpse, shaking it roughly before putting her head on Lena's still chest and letting out a bloodcurdling scream.

"Ah!" Kara woke up to Lena and Alex beside her, Lena moves to hug her and Kara returns it, holding her close before looking at Alex, her face one of confused happiness.

"Kara... Kara, are you okay?"

"L- Lena... what happened?"

"You were knocked out by some kryptonite..." Kara gasped as she felt something pierce her chest, she looks at Lena who also has a pained expression on her face. Kara looked down to see them both impaled with the kryptonite sword.

"A- Alex..." Alex just laughed.

"Look at you! Supergirl... beaten by a sword of Kryptoni-" Alex was cut off as a normal sword was driven through her by Kara's saviour - Lex Luthor.

"L- Lex?" Kara looked, wide-eyed at her saviour before the world around her faded to a shade of white.
