Cassia wasn't sure what that meant over the last few days. Ever since the grandparents came over for dinner, Cassia could barely get out of bed in the mornings. She knew her family wasn't the most functional but at this point, Cassia wasn't even sure if she could call them a family.

Just as expected, her grandparents decided to make donkeys out of themselves as usual when they came over. That, sadly, was a pretty daily occurrence for Cassia's family. But it seemed like even though it was a holiday dedicated to celebrating a grandparent and their grandchildren (Poof included), they had taken up the dinner to accuse one another of cheating instead, barely paying attention to Cassia unless it was to yell at her to each her food. Cassia began to wonder if she even mattered in this family.

Well, she supposed she mattered to some of her family members, at least. She always felt like she was the closest with her little brother, Poof, who was curled up, napping next to her in her bed, since he was scared of Cosmo's crying and Wanda's temper. Oh, how grateful Cassia was to have him in her life. Possibly the only person that took time to listen and understand her (other than her friend, Bongo), Cassia knew she would easily give her life for Poof over any of her family members any day. She was the most comfortable talking and joking with him, and they would often run around in the pink garden playing some stupid games while their parents worked, or have their little dates together. Having Poof around was like having a best friend live with her, and Cassia couldn't imagine living her life without him. If it weren't for the fact that she wasn't 18,000 yet, Poof would be the only reason she stayed in this family.

Watching him snooze next to her after a long hour of him sobbing his eyes out, Cassia swore to protect him from her grandparents' wrath the next time she was ever around them (though her parents made it very clear they won't be welcome anytime soon, thankfully), and told herself to take the blame or fall if something happens, Poof falls into Mama Cosma's wrath (which sadly wasn't a hard thing to do).

What did we do to deserve this? We're just kids! Doesn't anyone in our family love us? Anyone? Are we just mistakes? \

Cassia felt teardrops fall as she thought about it. While her parents often told her and Poof that they loved them, they, much like Wanda's parents, aren't exactly the most focused on their kids. While they were far more attentive, right now they were both too upset to really interact with them, with Cosmo crying his eyes out all night while Wanda was levitating towards the bottle (though she never threw it at them, thank goodness). She knew her parents would sometimes drink, though not in the same extent as Mama Cosma or Grandma Fairywinkle, but she couldn't help but feel some sort of guilt that this was happening.

Is this all my fault? Should I have tried harder to pick someone? Hmm..maybe I should have went with Grandpa Big Daddy at work? Make things easier on everyone? Nice on, Cassia. You made everyone's lives miserable. Well..then again, it's not like he'd notice us well anyways. Sure he sees us, but..he'd get too distracted to really pay attention.

After a while of thinking, crying, and feeling sorry for herself, Cassia suddenly felt a bust of anger hit her chest as she shot out of bed, trying her best not to wake Poof up. She wasn't angry that her grandparents didn't make an effort to get along; that was expected. But the fact that they all barely pay any attention to them on a regular basis, on top of not wanting anything to do with her and Poof on Grandparent's day of all days, made Cassia yearn for the phone that was across the desk, eager to call and curse them out for all they worth. But it wouldn't matter. She'd get in trouble if she cursed them out, not to mention they probably wouldn't listen to her.

Still, Cassia felt the need to confront her grandparents, dying to know if any of them really loved her and Poof at all. She decided that tomorrow and Tuesday, that she would run by the Fairywinkle and Cosma houses to ask, although she's terrified of the answer. She wanted to know. She needed to know. The questions were killing her, and she felt like they all seriously needed to be cut from their lives. She was used to be taken advantage of by her peers in school, but for people in your own family to so that…Cassia felt that was just cruel. She wanted to know where their hearts belonged, and if they didn't love her, she wanted to fix herself. Of course, she wanted her family to love her..Cassia felt like she was still just a person after all.
