'Wake up.'
I half expected to see myself in my red pyjamas, back in my red room, waiting for my redhead boyfriend, and definitely not cheating on him.
I wasn't so lucky.
Presently, I had been propped upright in some kind of hammock. I saw I was wearing black pyjamas. My bare feet were milky pale. Standing by my feet was Shiny Boy.
He extended a hand to me. 'Get up.'
I took his hand. It felt soft. And real.
I looked at him in bewilderment. Shiny Boy's real. So his hand is real. So his lips are real. And I actually kissed those lips.
My knees buckled.
'Aspettate, Majesty of Mystery.' Shiny Boy warned. 'How are you? What's my name?'
Dang, I cursed inside. I had a feeling he was supposed to know me if he could kiss me into fainting. What would he do if I didn't say his name? He was too hot for me to make him cry.
'I—' I pretended to get a coughing fit. What name could a guy this awesome have? Adrien? Cough. Nathaniel? Cough cough. Andrew? Cough, what are you thinking, cough.
'He's getting worse, Will,' saida bronze skinned boy with cornrows and a guitar. 'Is this some act you two are pulling to keep him here for a month again?'
'Will,' I said, voice still 'I think—William.'
'Obviously, Nicholas.' William said. 'How about my middle name—since Austin couldn't help but snitch.'
Austin Guitar Boy zipped his lips. No hope for me.
Something—something weird but definitely a life-saver—made me say, 'Andrew.'
'Perfect. You're fine.' William Andrew dragged me out of the hammock room. 'It's time for your daily diet.'
I looked at the brightness around me. 'You mean time for school?'
William Andrew stopped. 'You hate school, Son of Death. Maybe you need your medication again.'
I remembered the kiss and smiled shyly. 'Maybe.'
'Will Solace,' Called a chubby middle-aged man. 'Get your culnis in here. Your siblings are starving.'
'Your family's here?' I asked.
'Yeah. And unfortunately for them, you're part of it.' William kissed my cheek, dazing me, and hauling me into what looked like a pavilion.
I was stunned by all the people there. So, yes, they weren't as many as two classes in Collège Dupont, but they were still a lot. How could someone this handsome have so many siblings?
Will dropped me on the seats of one of the tables. The occupants looked more like Will's siblings than anyone else; attractive, light coloured hair, blue eyes. The sun seemed to reflect off them.
'Roll call,' Will, seated at the head of the table, said. 'Austin's still nursing his hand injury, so I'll see if anyone else here cares about their breakfasts. Kayla?'
'Present!' Said an athletic girl with a shock of green hair.
'Gracie?'
'Present!'
'Yan?'
'Present!'
'Félix?'
'Voci!'
I stood, shocked. 'Tu parles français?'
'Oui, Monsieur di Angelo.' Félix said.
'Quelle heure est-il?'
Félix checked his watch. 'Neuf heures moins de quart.'
'Bien.' I nodded. 'Maintenant, où diable suis-je?'
'C'est impoli de jurer à la table, Nico.' Félix teased. 'C'est la table D'Apollon la salle à manger des demi-dieux D'Apollon le dieu du soleil dans le Camp Demi-Sang.'
'Apollon? Le dieu Apollon? Apollon n'est pas Dieu.'
'Che diavolo stai facendo, mio caro?' Will asked.
That wasn't at all my language. Maybe Spanish.
Or Italian.
Oh my God; I'm supposed to be Italian!
'Um—mi dispiace, si'.' I looked at Félix. 'Se taire à ce sujet et me rencontrer à l'extérieur.'
'Merci.' Félix said.
I sat down, awaiting what would happen next.
What happened next was a bevy of girls coming over with really sophisticated food. I got a plate of eggs, chicken nuggets with ketchup, and coffee.
I retched. 'I'm—'
Everyone gave me weird looks. I almost said vegetarian, but I realised if I couldn't be French, why could I be an animal lover?
I took notice of my thin frame. '—not hungry. Food makes me sick.'
'Oh no you don't, Angel of Anorexia.' Will picked up a chicken nugget and held it in my face. 'I'll feed you. Let's do this.'
'No.' That chicken took so long to be born. Who would be cruel enough kill it for nourishment?
'Please?' Will gave me—well, imagine the cutest thing in the world. It would be a combination of baby goats, sheep, the most beautiful peacock of the galaxy, sugar, spice and everything nice, and all the puppy vs kitten videos on the known internet. Then give that thing eyes.
Those were the eyes Will gave me.
My mouth hung open, thinking: How is anyone this lucky to have someone this cute and be as thing as a stick and emo?
Just when I wanted to drown Will in weird babyish names I'd saved especially for times like this, a chicken nugget went into my mouth.
'Chew it,' Will ordered, looking as hot as ever.
I didn't dare protest. And for an innocent chicken, the nugget tasted pretty good.
'Swallow it.' Will said.
I forced that thing down.
'Say "More".'
'More.'
Will fed me the nuggets, coffee, and eggs even when I told him to stop.
'He's trying to fatten you up for your wedding.' Kayla said.
'Shut up, Kayla.' Will said.
Kayla giggled, but said no more.
It finally hit me that for as long as I was Italian, emo, a carnivore, and had a voice that was definitely not mine; this guy would be my boyfriend.
More accurately; this guy was Nicholas di Angelo's boyfriend.
And I was Nicholas di Angelo.
(+_+)(+_+)(+_+)
I dragged Félix with me the second the last coffee drop went down my throat.
'Parle-moi de…moi.' I commanded.
'Je ne suis pas, monsieur.' Félix said. 'Tu n'es pas tout à fait toi-même aujourd'hui.'
'Alors, que savez-vous de Nicholas di Angelo?' I tried again. It was weird asking about someone I'm suppoused to be.
'Les choses simples.' Félix said. '"Trivia", en anglais. Il quinze ans, un fils D'Hades, souffre depuis longtemps, déteste Percy Jacqueson, tuerait pour épouser Will; les choses.'
'I'd kill to marry Will if he were my boyfriend.' I muttered. 'Expliquer "souffre depuis longtemps".'
'Il—vous avez utilisé pour vous isoler. Beaucoup.
Huh. Maybe Nicholas wasn't as lucky as I thought. Dangerous quests? Ruling the dead out of fear of the living? Anorexia? I'll pass. Félix was right, though; anyone who does things like that and lives has to be badass.
'Deuxième choses deuxième; qu'est-ce que ce camp?' I asked. 'Vous êtes tous les frères et soeurs de Will?'
Félix scoffed. 'Seuls les super chanceux sont nés au soleil. Apollon a dix-sept enfants connus. Le reste vient d'autres dieux.'
'Dieux? Pluriel?' I had dufficulty believing in only one god.
'Et tu m'as fait la leçon quand je suis venu.' Félix shrugged. 'Nous—'
'French class over, Angel.' Said a boy who looked exactly like Ivan if you made all the fat muscle and ripped his shirt twenty times. 'War time. Now!'
translator notes:
You speak French?'
'Yes, Mr Di Angelo.'Felix said.
'What time is it?'
Felix checked his watch. 'A quarter to nine.'
'Good.' I nodded. 'Now where the hell am I?'
'It's rude to swear at the table, Nico.' Felix teased. 'This is Apollo's table the dining room of the Half Gods of Apollo The Sun God in the Half-Blood Camp.'
'Apollo? The god Apollo? Apollo is not God.'
'Che diavolo stai faizando, mio caro?'Will asked.
That wasn't at all my language. Maybe Spanish.
Or Italian
Oh my God; I'm supposed to be Italian!
'Un—I'm sorry.'I looked at Felix. 'Shut up about this and meet me outside.'
Tell me about ... me.'I commanded.
'I'm not sure, sir.'Felix said. 'You're not quite yourself today.'
'So what do you know about Nicholas Di Angelo?'I tried again. It was weird asking about someone I'm supposed to be.
'The simple things.'Felix said. "Trivia," in English. He is a long-suffering son of Hades, who hates Percy Jackson, would kill to marry Will; things.'
'I'd kill to marry Will if he were my boyfriend.'I muttered. 'Explain" has been suffering for a long time."'
'He-you used to isolate yourself. Many. You ruled and mingled with the dead because you thought the living would not accept you. You had not eaten and you do dangerous quests alone. You were scary, but a little tough.'
Félix scoffed. 'Only the super lucky are born in the sun. Apollo has seventeen known children. The rest comes from other gods.'
