When I wake up the following morning the sun has barely risen. I sit up slowly expecting Hiccup and Toothless to be glaring at me. Really I do hate that I'm so paranoid sometimes. It can endanger the mission and more than that I don't want them to hate me. I feel as though they are my friends already. Except for Astrid. Speaking of the riders I need to get even closer today. Hopefully by the end of this they will leave the Book of Dragons unguarded in my presence.
Hiccup and Toothless come up the stairs, but stop in the entrance to the room. He averts his eyes. He may have thought I am getting changed. "Are you ready yet? I thought we would start with a morning flight."
Hiccup is making my job really easy. He is far to trusting for a Viking and believes in second chances like the one he offered me. Must be nice. Must be why his friends trust him. Must be why they like him. That and many of his other qualities. His kindness. His wit. His bravery. Yeah I noticed the leg. It's unlikely for that to happen by being a coward. But I can't afford to be like him yet.
I realize I haven't answered his question yet. "I think that's a wonderful idea." I reply politely. I follow him downstairs for breakfast. His dad already left to patrol the village on his dragon. A Thunder Drum. He must trust me to some degree to leave me in his house with Hiccup and Toothless. I'm better at this game than I thought.
After breakfast we go outside and I call for Windshear. We mount up and take a few laps around Bark. The book is poking out of Toothless' saddle bag. It would be so easy to just reach out and take it, but Hiccup would have all the dragon riders hot on Windshear's tail quicker than I could blink.
Before I know it, we're dismounting outside Berk's Forge. Hiccup gets to work on something, and if I wanted to reveal to him that I was indeed spying and that indeed Astrid is right about me I would approach this subject directly. As I need to keep his trust and build upon it; "Hey, what are you working on?"
"I want Toothless to be faster than Stormfly." Hiccup says smirking, but not looking up. Clearly focused on his work.
Now I have a proper opening. "A shorter connecting rod will push you back and make you more streamlined."
Hiccup looks at me, considering. "Heather you're a genius."
I smile in gratitude. I'll be returning with that book to Alvin tonight.
