Adrien loved being Chat Noir. The literal freedom it provided, the ability to be who he was without worrying about how his father would react, helping people out, he loved it all. But having actual cat traits was on the top of his list.
Sure, having night vision was great. He had needed to use it while fighting against a few akumas. But this, this was his favorite part.
"Chat. Don't you dare."
Chat grinned at Marinette, who stood fuming next to him. He held up his hand, and she narrowed her eyes at it. "I'm sorry purr-incess, I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Put your dirty paw down and away from the yarn, or so help me…"
"Marinette!" Chat faked a gasp, bringing a hand to his chest, his other still hovering in the air. "I'm offended you think I'm such an alley cat. I have you know I groom myself every day and I was my hands frequently, thank you very much."
"I don't care, just get down and-"
The chirp of the akuma alert from her phone distracted her enough for Chat to swipe his hand, causing a few balls of yarn to fall into the floor. The thrill of doing something so simple, so stupid, made him giddy. Marinette's annoyed yelling was blocked out as he jumped off of her desk and bounded up the stairs to her bed and out onto her balcony. The tip of his tail flicked back and forth as he waited on the balcony for her to follow as Ladybug, and he held back on pouncing on her as she came through the skylight window. Cat instincts be damned, he knew she had enough of his antics for the day.
Ladybug gave him a look and pointed her finger at him. "If you messed up my gift I was making for Alya, I won't give you any pets for a week."
Chat huffed, preparing his staff to jump to the next roof. "You can't resist petting my hair, that will never happen."
"We'll see about that," Ladybug clicked her tongue, flinging her yo-yo.
The two quickly arrived to the scene of the crime, finding multiple Parisians frozen in place with their arms straight at their sides and feet planted together. For some reason, Chat felt the urge to just go up to one of them and give them a slight push, but he shoved it away. He had more important things to do.
The akuma victim was a female and was dressed in a fancy waitress's outfit. Although she seemed angry, like most of Hawkmoth's victims, she held herself with a sense of elegance while balancing a huge serving tray with a single glass of water on it. His eyes grew wide, and he excitedly nudged Ladybug in the ribs.
"Bugaboo, bugaboo the glass."
She shot him a deadpanned look. "I swear to god, if you're only saying that because of earlier, I get it. You're a cat, you do cat things."
"No, Ladybug, the glass of water is the akumatized item. I swear!"
His partner looked at the victim, sighing loudly. "Well, it's the only thing I can see on her. I suppose you want to go break it?"
He practically vibrated, hissing out his response. "Yes."
Another sigh, and she waved a hand for him to go at it. Thrilled, he bounded towards the akuma. He could hear Ladybug yelling at the woman behind him, but he kept his eyes on the object. Skittering around her, he eyed the serving tray she was holding. It looked normal, but it looked entirely too large for the single glass that was on it. He smirked. It was big enough for him to jump on it though.
After making sure the akuma was distracted, he leapt forward, landing on the serving tray. His claws dug into the material as the akuma yelled at him, swinging the tray around to attempt to knock him off. Chat's eyes darted to Ladybug's and he saw her give a nod.
With glee, he swatted at the glass, slowly knocking it closer and closer to the edge of the tray. The akuma's attempt to get him off the tray heightened, and he could feel her hit his side with her free hand. It knocked the air out of his lungs, but he was determined to knock the glass down. With a mrrrow, he gave the glass a final shove off the serving tray, and he leaned forward to watch it fall with wide eyes. When it crashed onto the ground with a shatter, causing the akuma to fly off, he purred loudly.
He loved being a cat.
