"Ummmm", Kat looked over at Alex who was also blushing. They had been caught red handed. Ava and Bunny stared at both of them. Kat and Alex were squirming. This was not the way Kat had wanted Ava and Bunny to find out especially Ava. Though Ava and Alex had made up, Kat knew her best friend would be shocked at this discovery. Ava had been by Kat's side through all the pain Alex had put Kat through. Kat would have to explain the situation to Ava very carefully. Kat also knew that there was no way she could talk her way out of the situation as she and Alex had been caught red handed. Kat then thought of the only explanation that she could, "you see Alex was just very tired from the trip. We bonded and we're back to our usual selves. But we were just talking when he passed out. I'm washing his clothes since they all got dirty and shit. The pink shower robe was the only thing that Alex could kind of fit into of mine. We didn't have sex. Why are you two looking at us like we did?", Kat was so defensive. Her usually deeper voice had gone high pitch. That only happened when she was caught in a lie. Her left hand was starting to shake a bit as she had been caught in the lie along with Alex.
"So why don't we hear a washing machine going?", it was Bunny that had asked the question. She had been looking at Alex and saw that he couldn't match her gaze. The black haired female knew that this was a cover up. Kat and Alex had clearly hooked up which was a double edge sword. On the one hand, Bunny was so happy that Kat and Alex were finally together. She knew how damaged Kat had been by the games Alex had played earlier. Bunny also knew that Alex needed someone like Kat in his life. She was going to challenge him in multiple ways. She could kick his ass in battle which would be a blow to Alex. Then she could challenge him intellectually which was what he needed. Alex could help get more confidence in herself which Kat needed. She was lacking in so much confidence that her getting Alex would boost her confidence. But the only question was if they would stay together if they didn't then this could be a disaster. Still Bunny was so happy for both of them and she would have some fun. "Also where did Alex sleep last night? He has his own dorm.", Kat did not know how to respond to that as she just hung her head. She knew that thisAlex meanwhile put a arm around Kat. He had enough with the games.
"Fine. Kat and I are together. I told her that I was in love with her. That I had been a complete and utter moron. That I couldn't live without her. She is the person I am meant to be with. I also was a complete and utter dick to her. Put her through so much. She's utterly perfect and I am proud to be her boyfriend.", Kat melted. She would then plant a kiss on Alex which confirmed that they were a couple. Bunny had an expression of pure joy on her face. She was happy for both of them. Ava, meanwhile felt something she hadn't expected and that was jealousy. Alex had never said such kind words about HER. They had been fooling up last year until Alex had been such a jerk. SHE had been with Alex first and had been put through hell by him. So there was a part of Ava that wondered what would have happened if she had been with THIS version of Alex. Ava wondered if she and Alex would still be together if he had not been such a dick. ", Of course Ava pushed those thoughts down. She loved Kat more than the thoughts of jealousy. And she knew how much Kat had suffered pining for Alex. Still the brunette crossed her arms and scowled as she looked at both Alex and Kat. Her blue and red eyes searched Alex and Kat's faces.
"Alex, what are your intentions with my best friend? Cause if you break her heart like you broke mine then I'll cut your balls off.", Kat blinked did Ava just say Alex broke her heart? Kat obviously knew they had been hooking up, but Kat didn't know that Ava had tremendous feelings for Alex. It did explain some things that Kat had noticed about her best friend, but they would talk about this later. Everyone in the room stared at Ava who then fumbled for an excuse for what she had just said. Even Bunny had titled her head confused at what Ava had said. "Uhhhh, I mean that when you broke my heart by being a dick and not acting like a friend. You've done that before to her, what's to say you won't do that to her again?", Ava was drowning in her lame attempt at an excuse. She knew it too as she could feel that everyone was not staring at her. She turned red and looked at Kat. It was an apologetic look, but also a more "please help me" look. Kat knew that look from Ava as it had happened before. Usually the cool, punk rocker girl did not get embarrassed so easily. But when she did she would often stumble and try to change the topic. Ava needed help and a life vest. She looked at Kat for help. Kat knew exactly how she would help her bestie out though it meant throwing her boyfriend under the bus.
"Alex has battlebond.", Kat said as Bunny and Ava gasped. Alex looked like he wanted to kill Kat. She just shrugged. She had to help Ava out of this rough situation. Ava and Bunny's jaws dropped and they looked at Kat then Alex. Alex looked beyond pissed. Yes, he had come to realize he did have Battlebond, but that didn't mean he was ready for Bunny and Ava to know about it. Especially after what had happened last year and how Alex had been so vehemently against the idea of Battlebond. Bunny looked at him as she knew him better than most people. She looked for his tell when he was nervous which was when he would blink really fast. She noticed that he was indeed blinking a lot. Bunny's eyes widened at the realization that Kat was telling the truth. Alex did indeed have Battlebond which was so ironic to Bunny. Ava was practically rolling on the floor laughing at the irony of what Kat just said. "Yes, he found and caught a pseudo legendary named Glasolemos and he nursed it back to health because it got badly beaten up by The Righteous. Then when we fought against the, I noticed that his eyes had turned blue just like the Pokémon. They were connected.", Ava stopped laughing for a second. It was clear that Kat wasn't joking about any of this which Ava had initially thought.
Ava's blue and red eyes blinked as she looked at Alex, "wait Alex. Did you have a headache? Like it feels like your head is going to split from the pain?" Bunny's gaze continued to shift between Alex and Ava. She knew where Ava was going as she was testing Alex to see if he actually had Battlebond. Alex shook his head emphatically as he was not going to admit it, but Ava also knew his tell when he blinked rapidly. That was what he was doing right now so she knew that he had it. "Did you seem to be able to see the thoughts and through the eyes of tour Pokémon? Did tour Pokémon feed off of your emotions?", Alex again shook his head as he blinked rapidly. Bunny, Kat, and Ava all put their fingers to the nip ridge of their noses. Each girl knew that Alex was in denial. It was probably because that he had been so vocal against the concept of Battlebond that he didn't want t9 admit that he really had it. Ava sighed as she had one last question for Alex, "did you feel like you were the one battling?" Another fake denial from Alex which annoyed the girls.
Kat put a hand on Alex's shoulder, "babe you aren't a freak. I think that you having Battlebond is awesome. It makes you a tougher fighter. And what you did against the Righteous was awesome. Melody and I were very impressed." Alex nodded and sighed. He had been denying that he actually had it and not well. So if Kat was ok with him admitting that he had it then he would do it. Plus, there was someone in the room that could help him control it. Alex looked over at Ava, "can you help me? Like can you help me learn how to control it. You're the second best trainer I know, Kat is the best, and I need to learn from you on how to control this. You've mastered Battlebond and I will need your help." Every single female in the room was stunned. Alex Knight was asking for help from Ava? They had hated each other for months and to be truthful Bunny had thought that they would kill each other in the battle a few weeks ago. But here was Alex asking for help from Ava to help control something that he had been denying that he had. It was clear that Kat had already started to have an influence on Alex. Ava actually smiled and nodded. Sure she would help Alex out because that meant that her best friend would be happy. That was priority number one even if she and Alex had come to blows some time ago. It was clear that he had changed for the better.There was something that had stuck with Bunny though. Something that Kat had said or rather who Kat had mentioned that made Bunny very curious. "Kat, who is Melody?", Alex and Kat looked at each other. They would then tell Ava and Bunny everything that happened.
Melody Monet had never slept so well in her life. She had so many good dreams and she didn't even know what time it was. The sixteen year old could just feel the relief from breaking away from The Righteous. She didn't have to worry about someone coming into her room and trying to hurt her. She was safe and she couldn't believe it. The disguised former blonde rolled over in the bed she was borrowing and yawned. She would look at the clock on the bed side table which read 1 pm. Melody had nearly slept the whole day away. She wondered what Kat and Alex were up to and if their friends had arrived. Melody got up and quickly showered as she looked at herself in the mirror. She hated the butchered black hair she had now, she missed her long blonde locks. Still if she had to disguise herself she would. Melody out on the punk rock outfit that Kat had said her roommate wouldn't mind and started to walk down stairs. Melody could hear voices as she turned the corner and wandered into what she presumed was the kitchen. Alex and Kat along with a brunette with red and blue eyes and a short black haired female sitting at the kitchen table. They all looked at Melody who stopped in her tracks. The brunette with the red and blue eyes started to walk to Melody with her phone, "Melody, someone has been waiting a very long time to talk to you."
"Where'd your blonde locks go, Goldilocks?", staring back at Melody on the FaceTime was the man that she had missed for so many years. The man that she had longed to see and had fought so long to see. It had been 3 long and painful years since she had seen her brother. Yet here he was looking back at her. His blue eyes were filled with tears upon seeing his sister from what Melody could see on the screen. Kat, Ava, Alex, and Bunny all smiled as they walked out of the kitchen. This was a family matter and not for them to listen too. Melody was beside herself as she had collapsed into a kitchen chair as she just stared at his face. He had grown out his hair and had started to grow a longer beard. She had only seen a sneak peak of him after she had visited the destroyed bar that had caused her family so much pain. Tears started to leak out from her eyes, she had been taught to be so tough by The Righteous yet right now she couldn't help, but cry. This moment was never meant to come, never ever. The Righteous would have never allowed this to happen. Yet she was now talking to her brother again. He had called her Goldilocks which had been his nickname for her when she was growing up. She had forgotten all about that until he had said those words. Melody just sat looking at the screen as Dexter did the same. They were just staring at one another taking it all in. "Oh Melody I have a surprise for you.", as he held up a pokeball so she could see it.
"Dex...I can't believe this. I never thought I would see you again.", sure they were not in person, but who was she to quibble. Her voice was so soft as she could not believe what was happening. Alex and Kat had kept their word which was to reunite her with her brother. They just weren't bullshitting her in order to get a strong trainer on their side. No, they had meant every single word they had said. Melody had trust issues obviously due to her past trauma. But Alex and Kat had kept their promise t her. They were truly her friends. In fact Melody would call them her best friends as they had already done so much for her. They had rescued her from The Righteous, had helped her get her Victreebel back, and now had brought Dexter back into her life. She owed them her life and would do anything for them now. Melody looked at the pokeball that Dexter was holding, she had wondered if perhaps his trusted Flareon would be in there. "What's in the pokeball, Dex?", she whispered.
Dexter smirked as he unlocked the ball as suddenly a familiar smiling face appeared on the screen. "Gengar!", the creature said into the screen. Melody started crying again at her oldest Pokémon that had been stolen from her had appeared. Melody couldn't believe that he had gotten the Gengar from Marcia. Of course Melody remembered all the horrors that the Pokémon had endured just like Victreebel had. The poor Gengar had been treated the worst. Melody hated Marcia for what she had done to the Gengar, but now the creature had somehow been rescued by Dexter. Melody wanted to know how the Gengar had gotten away from Marcia. The purple Pokémon stared at the screen as tears were in his eyes, "geeeen." It was clear that the Pokémon had missed his trainer. "Hey boy, I have missed you so much. I got Victreebel back and now I see you're with Dex. I can't wait to see you again. Don't worry, I don't blame you for what you did. It wasn't your fault.", the Gengar paused and nodded. He was glad that Melody did not hate him. That had been his fear, but now his old trainer was saying that she didn't blame him. This made him so very happy that he floated around laughing. Melody's blue eyes looked at her brother's face, "Dex, how did you get a hold of Gengar? The person that had taken him from me she was so vicious."
Dexter simply just smirked at his sister, "don't worry about Marcia. She won't be bothering anyone for a while. I know what she did to you, Melody. I'm so sorry that I couldn't protect you. I'm sorry about what you endured. You're so strong, but I should have been there for you. I should have helped Mom and Dad our more. Than they wouldn't haven't sold you to The Righteous. You wouldn't have been tortured and manipulated. You wouldn't have had to do the things that you had to do. I've heard about what they did to you. You're so damn strong Melody. So much stronger than I am. I couldn't go through what you had to endure.", she could see that his face was full of regret. Dexter was weeping as much as she was. He knew that he should have done more to protect her. He had promised her that he would protect her when they were growing up in their household with their parents. He had not fulfilled that promise and it crushed him. "I'm sorry Melody. I could not protect you. I broke that promise to you. I wish I could have done more to help you to protect you.", his voice cracked with regret and pain. It brought more tears from Melody.
"You were supposed to protect me, Dex. You were supposed to take me with you. You were supposed to adopt me so that I could live with you! You knew that mum and dad couldn't take of me. That they wanted to get rid of me. You told me you would take me with you! You broke your promise!", Melody cried. Her body shook from the emotions. She had wanted to be reunited with her brother. He was the only person she could trust until she met Alex and Kat. Yet he had been some of the cause of her pain. They had planned to run from their home together. That was no place for them to live. Dexter knew that too which was why he had promised Melody he would come back for her. He had sworn that he would. Melody wanted to know why he had lied. Had forgotten her, "you left me to die. They were going to sell me to make a bucks to feed their habits. You let them do that to me, Dex. Why?" She just wanted an explanation of why her brother just left her. She never understood why he hadn't fulfilled his promise to her. Why the person she loved unconditionally had just let her in the hands of the people that they both hated. Melody just wanted to understand what happened with Dexter and why he had done that.
Dexter was a mess. Those words had stung him to his core. He hadn't meant to break his promise or leave her to die. He had tried to rescue her and had tried to adopt her. Melody, of course, did not know any of this. How would she? Dexter would have to talk her through all of what happened. "I quit my position as champion because I was told that it wasn't a sustainable job to take care of you. So I quit as champion so that way I could find a job that could be sustainable. Something that would be impressive to a judge. That way I could adopt you and save you. I applied for a job at The Institute as a professor. It made sense and would show that I had a real job. It for some reason The Institute wouldn't hire me. Then all of a sudden mum and dad sold you to The Righteous. It was too late, Melody.", everyone was crying now. Kat, Ava, Alex, and Bunny had been secretly listening in on the phone call from the next room. All the girls were balling their eyes out at what they heard Dexter say. Alex too had tears coming down from his eyes. Melody had basically tossed the phone down on the table as she just sobbed. She couldn't believe that she had thought Dexter would leave her with those monsters. She just sobbed and could only get out the words "I fucking hate them" out. She then grabbed the phone as she started to compose herself.
Dexter now had a question for Melody. "Melody, when you came to the bar that day. You looked at me then ran away. Why was that? I could tell that was you, I am your big bro afterall, but you didn't stay. I was worried that you were going to go get the other Righteous members. That you were going to attack me. You just ran away from me and didn't look back. Why did you run? Why were you wearing that mask? Why would you cover your beautiful face?", Melody could see that there was longing and a willingness to try and understand what his sister had gone through. He did want to understand why she had just run off. In fact he had wanted to understand why she went there in the first place. Was she really there to hurt him as Alex had suggested that day? Dexter had to try and get a grasp on why she had acted the way that she had. He wanted to fully understand what his sister had endured. His blue eyes pierced into Melody like little sharp blades. She always hated that look fo pity that so many people had given her now that she broke away from The Righteous.
Melody just hung her head as she wanted to try and explain to Dexter why she had been there that day. She didn't know how to explain to her brother that she was there because she wanted to see if he was really dead and if he wasn't she was supposed to kill him. She had intended to do just that when she first looked at him, but she couldn't manage to do it. She couldn't kill the one person that she had loved. That was another reason why she had run away from the scene. Melody took a deep breath as she tried to calm her neves. "They told me that you were dead, Dexter. That they had killed you in the battle. That you had cried and begged for forgiveness. I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD. Then then...", tears again filled her blue eyes. She shook from the fear of telling him the next part. How would he react to this news. To this revelation that she had intended to kill him. "And if you were still alive, they wanted me to kill you. I wore that mask because it blocked Gengar's attacks on my mind. They used to always put me t sleep or I would pass out from pain then Gengar would be forced t use Dream Eater on me. The mask stopped that."
This was a lot to handle for everyone that heard it especially those in the other room. Bunny and Kat were both crying into each other's arms. Ava was clenching her fists in pure rage. These sick little bastards had planned to destroy a family. They had tortured poor Melody to the point where she was heavily damaged. There was a fire that was burning inside of Ava. She was now going to really go after The Righteous. She looked over at Alex who she could see was also pissed after hearing the conversation between Dexter and Melody. Yes, Melody had told some of the parts to him and Kat, but not in the much depth. Now she had to her brother and now even Alex was beyond pissed. Ava nodded at Alex and the others. They knew what they had to do and that was to help Melody and Dexter. The Monet's would need friends more than ever now. Luckily, Ava had a plan that could help Melody take her mind off of everything.
Dexter accepted her words. Through her tears, Melody could see that he was nodding. He had expected The Righteous to come after him and by using his sister had been a new low. Dexter just smiled which shocked Melody as she started to compose herself from the river of tears she had been crying. Melody had not expected Dexter to be smiling and laughing. It was confusing to her, had he finally gone insane? "Ohhh thank Arceus that you didn't come and try to kill me. If you had then I would have had to have really beat you. Afterall I am a former champion.", Dexter laughed. Melody blinked for a second as her face turned red from embarrassment and anger. The sixteen year old stuck her tongue out at her big brother and flipped him off. Dexter was always competitive when it came to battling. Of course Melody knew that she could beat her brother in battle now especially since she had Twilight with her. It would rock all of Dexter's team. Actually Melody wanted to find Dexter jut to battle him and shut him up.
Dexter finally calmed down as his face got serious again. He recalled the Gengar to the pokeball as he looked at Melody through the FaceTime screen. She blinked as he blinked back at her, "Melody, I know you're at the a Institute. You have to be careful as Franz Babic is not to be trusted. Do whatever Ava, Kat, Bunny, and even Alex say. It's important to understand that they are going to stick by you. You need to stay close to them. It's important for everyone's survival. I know that Franz isn't going to be happy about Nikki not returning to the university. He's going to try and go after her friends. I need you to watch after them to protect them. They will also protect you as well. I'm going to send the Gengar pokeball to Ava and she will give it to you. I have to go now, but I promise that we will see each other in person soon. I am so glad that I got to talk to you again. I love you." Melody would tell Dexter that she loved him as well. With that they hung up the phones. Melody just sat processing what she had talked about with her brother. She had a permanent smile now plastered on her face.
The four friends would walk into the kitchen after giving Melody some t8me to process what had just happened. The four knew that Melody would need some time to relax after what they had just heard. Arceus they all needed some time to gather their bearings after what they had heard. After seeing Kat and Alex walk in Melody got up from her seat and sprinted towards the two people. She bearhugged both of them awkwardly as she cried tears of joy, "thank you both. You guys kept your promise to me! You two really are my best friends. I can't believe that you guys had actually kept your promise! If there is anything that I can ever do for you please let me know. You guys have helped me out so much. I can never repay you guys. I love the both of you!" Ava and Bunny looked awkwardly at each other. This was not what they had expected and Ava had to admit she felt jealous. It was her phone afterall and she had let Melody use up all of her battery using the face time with Dexter. First, Alex and Kat were a couple, which she totally wasn't jealous about, and now Melody was giving them affection for something Ava had put together! Ava wanted to be loved too! Of course there was always James, but she wasn't drunk and so she wouldn't sleep with him until she was drunk. Bunny elbowed Ava as there were more pressing matters.
Bunny coughed which drew everyone's attention. Bunny had 3-5 pokeballs and a Pokébelt for Melody. "Melody, Alex and Kat told us that you lost some of your Pokémon. There's a few wild areas around here so that maybe you could train and catch some other Pokémon?", Bunny was hopeful that Melody would agree to go along with them on the look trek. Melody smiled as she gave a nod. Of course she would love t9 catch some more Pokémon with her new friends.
