It started when Noé woke up that morning. He readied himself for the day, waiting for Vanitas to show up for breakfast.

Only for a black cat with astermite blue eyes, and a blue bow around its neck to show up instead. Its right ear had a single piercing while the left had two and a dangling hourglass earring.

Staring in shock, Noé could only ask, "Vanitas?"

"Nyaa!" Vanitas meowed, an annoyed look on his face.

"You turned into a cat?!" Noé's eyes widened in disbelief.

After about a minute passed, Murr approached Vanitas, the usual annoyed look on his face.

With stars in his eyes, Noé asks, "Ne, you can understand Murr now, right? Can you tell me what he's saying?" before sighing, lowering his head in realization, "Oh right. You can only speak cat right now…"

"Meow~." Translation: 'Kid, now that you're a cat, stay away from my human. He may be dumb, but he's my dumb human. Got it?'

"Nya…" Translation: 'Got it. But first, let's get food!'

As both cats meowed at Noé, his own stomach growled, "Oh right. Breakfast."

After breakfast, in which Murr and Vanitas ate like kings, Noé set out on a mission: Pet Vanitas.

"Can I pet you?" Noé asks, his hands reaching out. Only for Vanitas to hiss at him, startling Noé, who didn't expect that, before dashing for the window, which was still open.

Escaping onto the rooftops, Vanitas made his way into the city.

Strolling around with his new perspective as a cat, he people watches, doing whatever he wants. From sleeping under a tree to acting cute to get pets from girls, and food…before stealing it.

It's a relatively good day, all things considering… at least until he comes across a certain Chasseur.

Roland had gotten himself lost…again.

Sensing a sharp stare at himself, Roland turns around only…to see a black cat before him.

Starry-eyed, Roland smiles, "Aw~! What a cute kitty~."

He attempts to get closer, only for the cat to back away, hissing, growling, and snarling at him.

Paying it no mind, Roland swiftly picks up the cat into his arms.

"Nyaaaa!" the cat clawed at Roland's arms, scratching him, but he doesn't seem to mind.

"Ne, ne, kitty, can you help me out? I'm lost…" Roland laughs.

"Grrr…" the cat, obviously annoyed, was just about to really scratch him up when…

"There you are, Roland, you idiot!"

A black-haired man with green eyes, dressed in black, his long black hair down with a top hat on top. He was angry.

"Ah. Greetings, Olivier!"

"I thought I told you to follow Georges, but you ended up lost again!"

"Hahaha, sorry," Roland smiles without remorse.

"You-!" Olivier was about to pummel Roland when…

"Nyaa!"

Olivier blinks as the cat's struggling, its eyes pleading for help, "Why do you have a cat?"

"You see, this cat is a gift from God! It distracted me until you got here!" Roland explains.

"…"

The cat and Olivier deadpan at that statement, 'You just wanted to pet a cat!'

Biting Roland, "Ow!" the cat escaped from his grasp before landing on the ground.

"Uh…kitty?"

The cat snarled at him, its fur standing straight up.

Then, a pair of arms pick up the cat, "Oh, stop that! You're obviously scaring it!"

Looking up at Olivier, the cat blinked before smiling smugly.

"But…just one pet?" Roland reaches out his hand, only for the cat to swipe at him, claws out, and hissing at him.

"You hate Roland, huh?" Olivier asks.

"Nya!" not expecting the cat to respond, nodding its head.

Absentmindedly petting and patting the cat's head, all Olivier gets is purring.

"He likes you," Roland points out, smiling a little.

"Shut up," Olivier replies, a bit embarrassed.

After putting the cat down, Olivier dragged Roland home.

"Why did you try to pet that cat anyway?" he asks.

"That cat reminds me of Vanitas so..." Roland sheepishly smiles.

"Mm…" Olivier hums in understanding.

Only…once home, and Roland dragged to his room, did Olivier sigh in the safety of his room.

His room was simple, and on the top floor, so the view was great.

He was about to fall asleep when he heard TAP TAP TAP on his window.

Annoyed, opens the curtains…and sees a familiar black cat on the windowsill.

Sighing and shaking his head, he opens the window, letting the cat in.

"Nya!"

"Why did you follow me home?" Olivier asks, deadpanning.

"Nya?" the cat tilts its head cutely.

Olivier gives up, "Fine. You can spend the night here. But you better be gone by morning."

"Meow!" the cat nods before making itself comfortable on his couch.

Petting the cat, Olivier hears it purr in delight. "Good kitty," he smiles as he pecks the cat's head.

Suddenly, in a flash of blue and blue sparks, the cat turned into Vanitas.

"Uh…" Vanitas sweat-drops as Olivier just stares.

"I'm too tired to deal with this," he mutters before dragging Vanitas down with him into bed, cuddling him.

"No one can know about this," Vanitas sighs, tired himself.

"Agreed," Olivier mumbles.

However, after a few minutes, they were still awake.

"What's your real name?" Olivier suddenly asks.

"It's Vanitas," is his automatic answer.

"No, it's not. That's just the name you inherited," at Vanitas' silence, Olivier sighs, "It's OK. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to. I just wanted to ask."

After more silence, Vanitas asks, "Is it really OK for me to-?"

"You can stay here anytime you want and as long as you want, you damn stray cat. Just don't get caught," Olivier answers, patting Vanitas' head, "Now, go to sleep."

Blinking at the unexpected answer, Vanitas smiles shyly, "OK…" before falling asleep.

In the morning, Olivier wakes up to a plate of galettes and coffee, along with a note.

Thanks

-V

Olivier curiously eyed the galettes, "He cooked?" before trying a bite, "Mm... Delicious."

Even after that night, Vanitas still sneaks into Olivier's room via the window on some nights.

When Georges asks about the noise after a few nights, Olivier shakes his head, "On the roof again," he mutters to himself before telling Georges, "Don't worry about it. It's just a stray cat that keeps visiting me at night."

Of course, Olivier doesn't mind that at all.

Omake:

They both get leashes for Noé and Roland so they don't get lost or wander off...again. It works…for as long as they can hold onto the leashes or until the leashes themselves break.
