Brooms, they were very important in the magical world. The biggest problem was they weren't comfortable at all. Sitting on a stick and be able to fly wasn't easy. Elliot Smethwyck always suffered from it. His parents always thought it was a good idea for him to see the view and forced him to fly to Hogwarts on a broom. It was awful, he wished he could use portkeys like other students. He tried to put a cushion on his broom with a Sticking Charm but everyone looked at him like he was crazy. He wanted to play for his house Quidditch team but the moment they saw his cushion they told him to go. Too bad the cushion couldn't be invisible. Not that he enjoying play that much he just like to fly on his broom enough for try. The cushion did help for his Hogwarts flights, but Elliot couldn't understand why no one ever invented a charm for that. It's seemed a basic thing to do. He decided to create this charm by himself. It's took him few years but eventually, in 1820, he succeeded in his mission.
'Molliare!' He tried a new incantation and sat on the broom. It was soft, like sitting on a cushion. 'I did it, I invented the Cushion Charm! Now a new generation of brooms could begin!' He called happily. Elliot Smethwyck did just that, he finally made the brooms comfortable.
He was glad that now, no one will need to suffer from sitting on a broom like he did. His kids would have a comfortable flight to Hogwarts when their time came. Not that they needed to fly on their broomsticks, until his first son was eleven Minister Ottaline Gambol decided all students arrived to Hogwarts by a train, which was a great idea. Sitting on a broom with your trunk tied up and fly all the way to Hogwarts was a nightmare and even though his charm would help other people a train would be a better travel option.
At least in Quidditch they used his charm, the players wouldn't need to stretch anymore because their body ached from sitting. But is greatest pleasure, was hearing his daughter, Leopoldina, told him how much she can't imagine what it was like to sitting without his charm. All of her childhood she sat on brooms, knowing that he is the reason they are comfortable and soft. She even had a career related to brooms, she wasn't good at Quidditch but she became a very famous referee as the first witch who do so.
Author note: I decided Leopoldina is Elliot's daughter it's make sense in the years and they both do something related to brooms.
